What year and model? Growing up my dad was a Porsche man.

Good Evening,

Ken, that 2-10-2 was built  by Mehano in Slovenia. I agree replacing the headlight is a problem as the orginal was run from track power so any replacment would require new wiring right back to the decoder. I just left the headlight alone in the one I had and so the headlight was on all the time. Did you put the decoder in the tender or in the cab? I did both ways and while a tiny Z scale decoder did fit in the cab, it was a very tight fit. Putting a sound decoder in the  tender was a lot easier but unless you buy some sort of plug hookup , the tender is permanently attached. That also means 2 more wires if you do the headlight, hence my just leaving the existing one as is.

Der, sorry to hear about your storm. I was just watching a Youtube video of the guy who put a 454 c.i. Chevy engine in a walk behind blower. The sound is amazing and seeing snow being thrown over 100 feet is too. There is also one of a guy in Norway who put a V12 into a Massey Ferguson to run his snow blower attachment. They don't say where the engine came from but I suspect it was from a Jaguar.

Good Night,

CN Charlie

Hello all,

Hello is anyone here?

I'll have 3 meat and cheese burritos with some chips.

Work: 12-8, off tomorrow thru Thurs, back on Friday and Sunday.

School: Taking CMT 230 A+ Prepetation and Humanities 1 this   semester.

I plan on taking the actual Comptia test sometime this summer, no further details on this yet. (I will keep you updated)

CMT 230: Monday nights 7:00pm-9:50pm

Humanities 1: Monday/Wedseday 11:00am-12:00pm.

My CMT Class gives two book assignments and two online quizzes each week, so I haven't been here that much.

I still drop by when I can.

Trains: Purchased two more Santa Fe SD75Ms, I now have three, 207, 232, and 226. These are the older releases so they don't have the cut levers or mu hoses. But they still look good. All three of them were released in 2009.

Been thinking about purchasing an Santa Fe BLI 2-10-2 #3890 and a Pennsylvania 2-10-4. Harry Buehrle has a PRR steamer but can't remember if it's a 2-10-4 or a 2-10-0. I wanted to model a coal drag on the PRR in the late 40's/early 50's. A Bowser N5C caboose with those radio antennas on the roof makes the perfect tail car.

Anyone here have a Centralia Car Shops SF Caboose? I'm looking for an early one with a wigwag or a radio antenna. I've checked ebay, but the ones I want seem to have vanished. May I see some photos?

That's all for tonight, getting sleepy, might drop by tomorrow if I get time.

Good night!

Tuned into one of the alphabet tv stations, I believe from their inference the end of the world is here --due to this snow storm---this might be my last communication if so. Yes, it is snowing, lots. Fired up my marine weather radio earlier, and the wind was already gusting over 70 mph at two of the five bouys monitored, judging from the sound outside it will be upon us shortly. Wife asked earlier if I was concerned about the snow on the roof, after the wind strikes, not worried about the snow, the roof possibly.  Forecast is for winds in excess of 50 mph. In the last four days we have had three of snow. It started,(this storm) about 1400 yesterday, now 0100, and we have already had over 16 inches--I do believe the 18-24 forcast might be low, supposed to stop around 1900 tonight.

Discovered some Pullman cars purchased some time ago, thought "what the hey" fired the mess up and discovered they have working inside lights, pleasantly supprised.

Stepson has surgery this Wed. removing his bladder, prostate, and will be using part of his small intestine to make a new bladder. The tumor has shrunk some with the chemo, we are thankful for that. My wife will be with him for five weeks or so helping with the grandchildren,(running to school, etc.) This will give me time to finish laying track on the addition to the layout.

One of my young fisherman friends gave my a pail of scrod, filleted them out and had some outstanding fried fish sandwitches. When the wife returns I am planing on making a four day trip, and will take my fillet knife with me to process "eats" for this summer.

Time to turn in, next two days will be busy---moving snow--the worst will be uncovering the wood pile.

Prayers for those in need----herrinchoker

I worked outside on the old Porsche,

My eldest son told us when he was a very young boy (three maybe?) that he was going to own a Porsche when he grew up. We were proud of his ambitions. Well, he worked his butt off as a teenager and bought a Porsche 944 in mint condition when he was still only 18 years old (we helped a bit). He was a very happy young man!

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!

Good Monday Morning, everyone!

I hope all those in the path of the nasty weather are safe and sound...

I've been burning the midnight whale oil again and I'm ready to turn in. I think a hot chocolate, made with real cocoa, Flo, and a dollop of whipped cream floating on top. Marshmallows are just too sweet for me Surprise

I began building a pair of Tichy wooden ore cars tonight. One of those kits I've had on the shelf for years. For some reason I've been bitten by the rolling-stock kit bug lately. Tichy makes some fine products and these kits are going together very nicely. I only lost one journal box lid and one nylon bearing. Fortunately, Mr. Tichy provides two spare bearings in the kit... but no journal box lids. Time to do the vacuum trick.

Yes, Ken I HAVE been busy on the model RR Big Smile Thanks for stopping by the WPF!

Well, that's all for now...

Good morning everybody ..... Coffee and a pecan roll (Sticky bun), please.

herrinchoker

Stepson has surgery this Wed. removing his bladder, prostate, and will be using part of his small intestine to make a new bladder. The tumor has shrunk some with the chemo, we are thankful for that. My wife will be with him for five weeks or so helping with the grandchildren,(running to school, etc.)

Herrinchoker... Sorry to hear about your step son. Prayers for healing.

Ken ...My Stewart FT's are some I bought cheap at a train show several years ago. It was $30 for each AB set. They were undecorated, and I painted and lettered them.

Ed ... Let us know how the Tichy ore cars come out.

Richard .... The car is is a 1984 Porsche 928s. It was advertised by Porsche in 1984 as the fastest street legal car sold in the USA.  Remarkably, that during the era of 55 mph speed limits, and this car has a top speed of 146 mph according to Porsche.

Dave ... that is a good story about your son saving up for a 944 !

The old 928s has a story to it. It began with my wife's sister who was living in Florida and she had major problems there. We decided to rescue her, and bought her a one way Greyhound ticket to Nashville, TN where we picked her up. She arrived with only the clothes she was wearing. At first she lived with us, but she did have enough money to buy a used travel trailer. She rented a place in a trailer park. Eventually she had to move out of the trailer park (another story), and rented a small cabin in the country. The travel trailer was parked on our property and was up for sale. My sister-in-law's health deteriorated, and she passed away. The trailer was still for sale. Eventually, a man offered to trade even for the old Porsche.

Basically it was a trade of a junk trailer for a junk Porsche. The Porsche became a project I have been working on (off and on) for several years. Now, it is in good mechaical shape. The exterior looks very good. The leather interior needs to be replaced.

Morning everone.

Flo - A nice apple danish and a glass of milk please. Thanks.

CNCharlie - I knew there was a site somewhere with documentation, but couldn't remember where. Thanks.

Weather - Not quite as much snow as was expected, but lots of wind. Not as bad as some locations, but nasty none the less.

W**k - Nothing sold at all yesterday, and off to a very poor start today. Weather might have something to do with today, but there was zilch for foot traffic yesterday other than a couple people picking up prior purchases. Should have brought the Mantua to tear apart today I think...

Trains - Definitely need to tear into the Mantua steamer, as I can't get her to respond to any power, so that will be a next in line project.

Hope all are well, and enjoy the day!

Nice car! When I was a toddler, my father bought a 1962 356. It was is pride and joy until he sold it and bought a 1967 911. I spent a good deal of my childhood riding around in the fold-up back seat of a Porsche.

Today I am in the Waiting Place. (Any fans of Dr. Suess' "Oh the Places You'll Go!" out there?) I was approached last week about a new job. Have been through most of the interviews, and now we wait...

The snow has mostly stopped here in the burbs of Boston.  It's hard to tell, though, with a steady 20+ MPH wind and predicted gusts to 50.  Looks like my exercise for the day wil be shoveling the walk.  The plow guy cleared the driveway this morning, so I am by no means stranded.  I should go to the grocery store later to restock on the essentials.

I found my utility knife and began working on the vertical walls for the scenic cover over my staging tracks.  The walls are just foamboard, but they will be mostly covered with the Bragdon foam castings I did a while back.  I'm only doing a short section for now to work out the techniques of how to get the covers off when there's a derailment.  (Yes, Der, you will have derailments and  you'll need to clean track, too.  Make plans now.)

Good afternoon Folks: Since we are parked in the land where these are popular, I’ve brought in some Lamingtons.
It’s storming out, so one or two of those with a Hot Chocolate would go down well. I fancy that this is the kind Ed’s after
Garry:
Der .... What if there is a derailment beneath the Honey Bunches of Oats ? .... Whistling
…indeed, and although technically the “Honey Bunches” will have been removed since they are only a former for the actual foil liner, your point remains. The answer is access hatches cut into the foam/foil liner shell and attached to removable sections of the Fascia so that the whole slice of liner comes away with the fascia section as it’s pulled out from the layout. I think only two will be necessary. Track cleaning is the more frequent need, I’m hoping!
Mr. Beasley:
(Yes, Der, you will have derailments and you'll need to clean track, too.  Make plans now.)
. .. thanks for the concern, but see above, “job done”!  The time signature for your post about the snow ending was 10:00 am Atalntic. It didn’t start here ( Nova Scotia Northhumberland shore) until 11:00 am. That gives you an idea of the size of this puppy! More than 480 miles, give or take so my Distance Calculator app tells me.
FRRYKid: Tough day! One thing does seem to lead to another doesn’t it?
Thankfully almost of the riverbed is reuseable but that will give the blender a workout when I get to that.
Sorry, I hadn’t paid sufficient attention before, - what’s the blender used for in the scenery process? I use our Magic Bullet to reduce Woodland Scenics "Fine” ballast to something more suitable for N Scale.
CN Charlie:
Der, sorry to hear about your storm. I was just watching a Youtube video of the guy who put a 454 c.i. Chevy engine in a walk behind blower. The sound is amazing and seeing snow being thrown over 100 feet is too. There is also one of a guy in Norway who put a V12 into a Massey Ferguson to run his snow blower attachment. They don't say where the engine came from but I suspect it was from a Jaguar.
Thanks, So far it’s a blizzard which was 5 hours late in starting, so “Slow Moving” as forecast. We don’t know how much snow we’ll get, but by your standards, a doddle! 100’ throw would fill our neighbour’s driveway on the OTHER side of his house!
Herringchoker: Prayers for your Stepson. That is no light surgical load. Angel
Well, the bread machine just beeped so we got a loaf baked before any power outs. Thumbs Up I’m off to mix up paint for the liner. I think I’ll try a different colour/shade to suggest a different geology and hence distance from the other tunnels. TTFN.

Hey guys,

Flo, I can get the Chicken strips appetizer with fries... No I don't want any sauce for it.

I found a few pictures as inspiration. I might use the concrete girder bridge to make a small hill (if it works).

It's been a sunny and cloudy today. It thundered for 15 minutes yesterday and rained probably less than 2 minutes. I just enjoy the thunder storm, you really don't need the water that comes with it. No other plans for rain today.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, a cup of decaf would be great right now.....

I have a sign I bought a few weeks ago:  "Sarcasm - A Free Service I Offer."  That was what I was intending with this mornings post...  We got about 4" of fluffly White Stuff over night and it was blowing around pretty good this morning when I got up.  I think 32 schools were listed as being closed or on a two hour delay in the Finger lakes Area.  That is just about all of them.  By 11AM the roads were all plowed and salted.  I didn't even need to shovel my driveway to get out to the street, even though the city had piled 6 or inches of stuff at the entrance.  Did find out that the Volt is actuall very surefooted in snow.  My DIL's School was closed today, the grandaughter's schools were on a two hour delay, and my son didn't have to work today (I think).

I went to the Pharmosy to pick up some Rx's and got my grocery shopping for the week done.  I have accumulated $1.40 off per gallon for gasoline for my electric car...  Wow!  (See about sign above.)  I will give that discount to my son and DIL to fill the gas guzzler my DIL drives.  I am now averaging 195mpg on the Volt....  OPnly filled up the tank once since I got it and haven't had the ICE running since mid last December.  End of thios month I will need to use some fosillized dinasaur Dung to get to Rochester for a meeting and back home home though.

Spent about an hour and a half vacuming the rug here in the dining room/office today...  Looks better now!  Now it looks as though I should just run the vacumn again.....  Tomorrow I shall spend part of the day trying to get rid of some long fillaments of algae that are growing in the 50 gallon aquarium....  Can't seem to get it under control...  The Plecostomus is growing from being well fed on algae though.

My Quote for the day....

That depends, Sir,' said Disraeli, 'whether I embrace your policies or your mistress.”

 Evening Diners

Flo, Ed will have a Crown Royal and I will have a Beer please.

Sloooow but good work day. While I know to never prejudge a costomer but some times it hard not to. Had all the ear marks of being a low end customer but I did a still made a effort for a better mattress for them. I was waitting for "We like it but we only wanted to spend $500.00". Never came and if fact never even asked about prices! Made a extra $135.00 in spiffs because I did not prejudge. Yes

I agree replacing the headlight is a problem as the orginal was run from track power so any replacment would require new wiring right back to the decoder. I just left the headlight alone in the one I had and so the headlight was on all the time.

CN Charlie Dang I wish I had thought of that! Bang Head With the LED's that Ed sent me I think I can get it done. I used a Z scale decoder in the cab. Only reason I may not work on it, well besides being not feeling like doing anything. It can not pull much, maybe 10 cars. But it did track well!

YGW I have so much old Jeffery stuff here at the house it is hard not to think of him! Couple of his cars just rolled by in fact.

Gary Hum, Stweart's? I know they should be good engines, well should be is the key word. I think Ed and I have had the same problem. I had 4 of them and all 4 motors ate the decoder's! Jeffery got all the remains of of them I had.

Ed I use to post in Weekend Photo Fun a lot a few years ago. Till I get the $$$$$ in line again and not worried about keeping the house I don't feel like working on the layout.

Bessemer's, CB&Q's and Mighty B&O F7's are running great! Big Smile

Magical how 18-24 " of snow turns into 42 " of snow---and ten more inches forecast for Wed.-Thurs., oh joy!!! My deck is over six feet above the ground and I have to throw the snow UP to get to the top of the bank next to the deck. At least I don't worry about the dogs wandering down to the river to swim, they both made a break when they thought I was not looking, and both went out of sight in the soft snow on the back side of the berm left by the plow. After they worked their way out, and back to the top of the berm, it was easy to tell that they both had lost interest in going to the water.

Tomorrow will clean up the leftovers from the bucket loader, and get ready for the next round. Hope all are warm, dry, and safe--prayers for those in need.

Those deaths of those teens on the railroad tracks is nothing short of a travesty for all involved.  Having kids and reading stuff like that makes your heart stop.

On a separate note Cub scouts/boy scouts still give out badges for railroading and models.  In fact our local club promotes railroad safety to kids.

At least we can make a difference.

Ken .... I have never had any problems with Stewart model locomotives. I'm surprised you have. Do you sometimes have more problems with locomotives than most people ?

Greetings, All...

The weather is beautiful here in NE Ohio! Blue sky, 48°F (9°C) and I'm ready for a little hike around the "Estate".

cudaken
Ed I use to post in Weekend Photo Fun a lot a few years ago. Till I get the $$$$$ in line again and not worried about keeping the house I don't feel like working on the layout.

Before I started posting in WPF I couldn't figure out if it was supposed to be a "Look What I Got Accomplished" kind of thread but after a while I saw that some folks posted photos... just for FUN!

I wouldn't mind seeing more shots of that great coal mine you have Smile

Glad your trains are running "shiney-side-up" lately, Ken!

Thanks for the Cherry Tarts, Steven! I think I'll have two!

That's all for now. I'll check in later.

Regards, Ed
