55 degrees and breezy at the beach. The Atlantic was a little choppy, but the fellow was still out there in his small boat running his crab pots. This has been a good fall for the shrimp fishermen. The heavy rains of Hurricane Matthew pushed a lot of fresh water downstream and the little shrimps moved further out into saltier water. That made 'em easier to catch. And if they are easier to catch, then they are cheaper to steam with Old Bay seasoning... might be a good choice for the diner.
I have jury duty starting tomorrow morning. With 30+ years as a police officer, no defense attorney will ever let me actually be seated on a jury. I find it fun to see the process from the other side. ALSO, they pay 20 cents per mile for travel to and from the county seat, and since I drive a Prius I make out like a bandit!
I'm allergic to cats, but am hoping for a good report on the lost one.

Good Evening!
My Internet service was down for the day. Any attempt to contact the provider via mobile phone ended in a queue a hundred miles long. At the moment, the service seems to be restored, but I don´t know for how long.
My initial thought was I got disconnected for my "bad" political comments I frequently publish in an online "free press" mag.
Trying to get hold of the folks at my provider´s pretty much occupied my day, so there is nothing else to report!
Richard - I sure hope Scout finds his way home soon!
Janie, I´ll settle for something stronger tonight to comfort my shattered nerves, thank you!
Hobby Front: Won both of the NP engines that I had bid on. Costwise about what I was expecting. One of the decal sets needed to change the NP numbers to the BN numbers should be here tomorrow according to the postal tracking. (The other is left over, ironically enough, from the coal cars that these engines will pull.) Looking forward to having those engines and getting them done. Hopefully these are the last two engines that I will need to purchase.
Evening Diners
Flo, Iwill have a and if Ed makes it in a Crown Royal on the rocks.
Work Front Not a lot to talk about, 2 customers all day. I spent a hour with a couple and I was 95% sure we had a deal. I was more sure than yesterday with the couple that was driving me nuts! But could not close the deal. They called me back and said they let me know Monday.
Daughter Grieving Front She made a big mistake today, she adopted a cat! Reason I say it is a big mistake is not due to me not liking cats but for the following.
1 Her remaing dog hates cats! Soon as she put the cat down, Archie chased it around and around the Christmas Tree.
2 Health Problems. Sharyon has Asthma Bad and she knows she and her husband have a Cat Allergie. Her asthma is so bad she has to take steroids! There is noway she will beable to keep the cat. I feel bad for the cat, it thinks it might have it's forever home and I just do not see this working out!
Few YGW drawings.

Ed When do you think you will have the time to send the LED's? Really like to get the B&O GP 7 lite. Thank You for the Photos of the wiring for the Might B&O F7a! I think I found the problem, seems I had the speaker pluged into a track shocket, that cannot be good. Tried to read the Mighty B&O F7a using decoder pro and it would start to read the decoder than get error 308. Wheels look nasty so more than likely that is the problem! Will not be the first time.
YGW Can you make the photos so they are up right? I thought I had them flipped the way they need to be. Seems Photo Bucket does not agree!
Later, Ken
Good Evening, Diners!
Ken, thanks for the
Flo, how about a nice Steamship Round of beef, au-jus. What? You only have the Battleship round... OK, that will do. Thanks!
Ken, glad you are getting all your plugs in the right sockets. Got to keep the firing order right on those BLI engines. I WILL have the LEDs and stuff packed up this week, I hope by Wednesday. IF track power got to the speaker it's probably toast. Maybe only programming power, then might be OK. I have some spare speakers I'll try to remember to throw in the package.
I hope you don't hate BLI F units too much

THEN:
I hope the adopted cat story turns out OK, but I have my doubts. We took in a cat that a family member had. This poor cat had a rough life and did not get along well with any of our other cats. We did find a good home for her, eventually.
Wouldn't you know, a few months later these same people got another cat and they were complaining about it a short while later I just don't know what to think...
I'd like to make a suggestion to the Diner Location Selection Committee.
Some time ago (OK, forty-eight years ago) I visited the Railroad YMCA at Frontier Yard in Buffalo, NY. I snatched a menu for you good folks to peruse:
Penn Central was only six months old then!
I thought I'd throw out the idea. Buffalo is absolutely beautiful in January and if you're lucky you'll get to experience one of the 60" lake-effect snow storms
Well, just throwin' out a suggestion.
Regards, Ed
Ed:
T-bone steak dinner for $1.75. Only 5 things on the menu for more than $1. Amazing!
Thanks

By the way, the last thing that I want to experience in life is a 60" snowfall! I do have a snowblower but fortunately I have only had to use it a few times each year. Recently a good friend decided to buy one too. He bought a rather large machine which is a bit of overkill in our area. He sent me a picture his wife took of him braving the elements to remove the first snowfall of the year. I kidded him pretty bad because I didn't bother to blow away the snow that day and it was melted totally by mid afternoon! It was only about 4" deep and it was so fluffy he could have cleared his driveway by just pointing the snowblower exhaust in the general direction of the driveway. I tend to be hard on my friends! They forgive me!
I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
Richard:
Regarding your missing cat, you might want to ask your neighbours to check their garages and garden sheds. Friends of ours are professional house sitters. They go all over the world, mostly to provide pet sitting services. They don't get paid, the pets get looked after, and they get to enjoy the usually very posh homes. A couple of years ago they were in London, England looking after a fine feline who was to be 'let out' every evening. Their worst fears were realized when said feline failed to return one evening. They searched the neighbourhood frantically, posted messages on street poles, and went door to door. No cat. Fortunately about three days later a neighbour showed up at the door with the cat. The neighbour had opened their garage and the cat immediately scrambled out the door. The day the cat had gone missing the neighbour had been in the garage and had closed the door as usual but apparently the curious cat had walked into the garage un-noticed before the door was closed. All's well that ends well! Our friends didn't tell the cat owners although I'm sure the owners would have eventually found out from the neighbours.
Anyhow, if you haven't done so already, it might be a good idea to canvas the neighbours.
Good lick luck!
Evenin' folks!
Janie, I'll have the Roast Beef Dinner with a salad and a hard roll. A cup of decaf would go nicely too....
Well... (deep subject), I had a busy weekend, I did... It was the annual RIT Train Club Show in the RIT Fieldhouse. This was the biggest one they have ever out on and was very well attended on Saturday but considerably lighter crowds today. I was working the NMRA Tables all weekend. Handed out a lot of information about the Division and the NMRA and answered a lot of questions. We have 3 or 4 people doing our Modelers Corner (where we bring something to build or work on). I was making and installing individual shingles on the roof of a Water Tower that will be located in the "Milo Mills" area. These will be , like the ones on the Octogon Blacksmith Shop I created, Cedar Shingles that are creostoe dipped. Very common in this area back in the early 1900s. They should look far better when finishyed than the rather hoakey rook that came with the old kit... Many people stopped to stare at what I was doing.... Some commented that they think it will be great, and some others commented about my Mental State.... There will be at least a couple thousand hand cut and glued shingles on the roof by the time I am done....
I do enjoy going to the shows as an exhibitor as I see a whole lot of folks that I know and don't see very often.
So...... Uh, Ken.... What the heck is a Might B&O F7a??? I know what an F7 is, and I know who the B&O was... But I have no Idea what a Might B&O F7a is??????? And what exactly what is the upside down diagram supposed to be of???? Inquiring minds want to know.... I know you mentioned YGA in the post, but?????????????
The Volt made it all the way home from RIT today in EV mode.... That is 50.1 miles acording to the odometer. The ICE did fire up several times to keep the car warm (normal when it is this cold outside). Also found out that the car handles very nicely on snow covered, slick, and crappy road conditions. I have more room in the Volt than I did in the PiP. Both days I plugged at RIT and recharged so I could get most of the way home on EV only. Nice..... RIT has several charging stations and they are open to the public for free..... They also have a large tech school and do training in Solar and wind power. Figured out how to use the ChargePoint Card at the chrager. Very straight forward and easy, BTW.
Hope you all have a warm and safe night out there (it is in the mid 20's here). My prayers to those in need of them!

Hey all
Just in case you missed it Late last week was Pelle's birthday, that guy amazes me. I wrote him a happy birthday note on his face book page and he responded ! He seems to be a very nice person.
At w**k getting ready to leave. The surgery was a success. They "mass" they removed from my chest was MUCH LARGER than expected. It was the size of a tennis ball vs. a golf ball sized lump. No wonder it hurt !
Ken Not sure if I can do that. I will look into it.
Train front - Talked to the excavator, To save money on rock removal we are raising the building 6" and moving it back 2' that will enable us to install ftg with out having to jack hammer any more rock.

Anyone in here?
Everybody must be busy elsewhere. I'll stop back when the bar opens...

Good evening.
Wake up Zoe... That slow today? Wow....
Zoe - I will have a slice of warm apple pie, with a generous scoop (or two, I won't tell anyone. ) of vanilla ice cream please. Thanks.
Cudaken - Yes, you did read that right, I was not taking a model train to w**k on Friday. Good thing I didn't either - see below for further details.
Weather - Cold here, but the snow has stopped at least... For now... We had 24-30" until it rained early this morning, compacted it down quite a bit. More snow headed this way Wednesday night through weekend though.....
W**k - Good thing I didn't take a model train to w**k on the weekend, we were busy! During a snowstorm, we were busy! Crummy roads, low visibility, pouring snow, at 2" per hour, and we were busy! Doing what you ask? Selling snowblowers of course! Sold 9 between Friday and Saturday combined, so, decent sales (and spiff $$$ ) from that. Totally surprised me being that busy!
Trains - Nothing new to report, still have a couple projects being worked on.
Hope all are well, and all have a good night.

Your story reminds me of the old adage about fixing a leaky roof when it is NOT raining.
So, why do people WAIT until they are hammered with snow to decide that they need a snowblower?
Human nature go figure!
So, the new job is working well for you?? Just wondered—
YGW, glad to hear you're on-the-mend! Prayers for a speedy recovery

Chamomile tea, please.
I really enjoy some of the stories being shared here. That goes for the photos, too.
Nothing to report on from the ol' farm.
Cheers! Rob
Good evening everybody ...
I suspect too many of you are sleeping in during the mornings. It is too quiet some of the mornings.
YGW.... I'm glad the surgery went well. ... I did not know you had a FB account.
Ed ... Is that really you in the photo ? What is the story?
I have a lot of non-MRR stuff going on. Meanwhile, there is a backlog of projects waiting for me on the layout. ... Every time I get started working on my bridge spans something else comes up; and the bridge project is delayed again. .... I have an appointment in Nashville tomorrow; so I must get up early in the morning .
Happy Model Railroading, everybody.

Ed,
Is that you when you worked on the railroad? What year was this photo taken? Is this one of the B&O roundhouses? What is the location of this photo? Are you inspecting the steam locomotive with that flashlight?
Just Curious.
Great pic Ed. The BBC video I linked to this weekend talked about bowler hats being the hard hat of their day.
Went to a small train show at the local VFD Sunday. It was 95% Lionel. My first train was an American Flyer. I talked my dad into getting me an HO set. I never regretted it. The Lionel layout they had set up had surprisingly small radius turns. I guess I'm not a Lionel kind of guy.
There was an HO dealer who was dismayed to find he was in a O gauge show. There were some Rivarossi steam engines. I had no idea about pricing, but the guy said make me an offer, but I really don't care to tackle a DCC steam conversion.

Hello again all.
Zoe - I see it got busier now, that is good. Maybe it's the Buffalo menu?
Ed - Yes, the new job is going well, and I enjoy it. Somehow, going from a clothing store assistant manager to just general sales, and I make more money now... If you can figure how to make sense out of that one, I can figure where it makes sense out of why people wait until the middle of a snow storm to decide to buy a snow blower.
YGW - Glad your procedure went well.
Zoe - The apple pie was great. And, that new menu price is awesome...
Hope all are well, and have a good night.
Ricky W.:
My first real job was in the Hardware Dept. of the Sears Canada store in Peterborough, Ontario. The first year I was there, there was a huge snowfall in mid March. We brought in every snowblower we could find and sold over 90 snowblowers in less than a week, in mid-March yet! Full price yet!!!
The next autumn, when we were planning our snowblower sales, we figured we would sell a ton more blowers because of the bad weather in the previous March, so we ordered a ton more blowers. That winter was a dud - very little snow. Most of those blowers sat rusting in the warehouse until the following year!!! They weren't sold at full price either!
A snowblower is something that nobody wants to buy. They buy them because they have to. Hence the last minute shoppers.
Flo, Ed will have a Crown Royal on the rocks and I will have a
Work Kind Of Stunk. Only had 2 customers (not counting the guy that asked me how much a queen box was as I was locking the door from the oustide) One customer bought and I had to gut the deal to get it. To bad, it could have been a $115.00 spiff. Now all I get is a warm feeling.
Ray Y are you Picking on me? Yes I forgot the Y.
Gary For now I am posting the photos for YGW. I need to try to set him up with a Photo Bucket account.
Rick So the Harware company you work for lets you take Trains to work? If so you have a good owner and manager!
YGW I forgot about you going under the knife. Far as the photos, first time I have not been able to flip them? They where JPG files right?
Ed Thanks for the tip on Photo Bucket but I don't think it will help me. My computer is old and stuggles with photo bucket. I need to get the newer machine working, guess it is time to ask for some help from work.
Far as the once Mighty B&O F7a, still cannot get decoder pro to read the decoder. Cleaned the wheels and decoder pro read CV 8, CV 7, High Bit, Low Bit a couple of times (forgot what came before high and low) then got the 308 error. Might be time to send it to BLI. Half way thinking about just putting it on the main line and see if any smoke comes out. Pretty sure I won't, it to nice to smoke the decoder if I have not all ready cooked it. Hum, just checked. The QSI decoder board you sent is not the same as the F7a. I all so did not see the small print on the board.
Trains are running great so I am happy tonight, Ken
First chance that I remembered to stop by the Diner today.. Working on a bunch of hobby projects today:
Got an unneeded engine shipped off to its new home in Idaho. (Facebook sale. Group I'm on. Prototype pic on it was posted. Mentioned I had one I wasn't using as it was too new for my era. Another member asked if I wanted to sell it. Got if from home. Send pics. Buyer send M.O. Got it this morning.)
Also got decals for a boxcar I'm working on and caboose decals that were suggested to work for the U25s. (I don't know on that one. The size doesn't look right but we shall see. If I don't use them for that, I can always use more cabeese. Should get the U25s hopefully by the end of the week.)
Got the opening on the other side of the boxcar sized to fit the new doors. Had to stop because I managed to break one of the stirrup steps and am waiting for that to dry.
Also decided to get the 45 off the project pile and start working on it. The CA debonder worked beautifully in removing the old CA holding the handrails. With a little bit of disassembly, I was able to remove the cab. Broke part of a nose rail by accident but I need to cut apart the nose rails anyway to fit the replacement sides. (Bought an extra set strictly for this purpose. This is an NP SD45. They were produced with cab sides similar to GE units which altered the nose rails. Makes for a unique spotting feature for NP units or the SD45s that were delivered to the BN that the NP had ordered.)
Good morning
cold a dreary here in the wilds of west KY
Not much going on today except w*rk. we have two second interviews with peopel to fill two positons. we do team interviews. We tried to do these three weeks ago but some of our team got sick on that day etc etc.
been working in the basement as a pilot. (take stuff form one side pile it on the other)
YGW : glad surgery came out ok. Had a girl that worked for me at the theatre that kept having headaches and she went to the Dr. They removed a softball size mass from her brain. ( it was beniegn) She was fine after that. She had no idea that was there.
Snow blower theory.: people like me are too cheap to go buy one, then one day the get tired of shoveling, so the relent and go buy one. so each year there are numerous peole who say : " heck with shoveling" Around here I really don't need one ( uh oh in for a blizzard now) Might get one of those on a stick.
Not much on teh train front right now. busy with w*rk and radio fixing side job. I have been contacted by 5 people in the past week, plus one regular customer is bringing 4 radios today to be fixed.
ta ta for now.
Round of Hasbrowns and waffles for all.
Mornin' Everyone!
Zoe, I'll have a waffle with Pure NYS Maple Syrup and a couple slices of bacon this morning.... What? Ah, yes, please cook the the bacon. (What? Do I look like Lion or somethin') Oh, I will need a large pot of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast organic Coffee to keep my R&GV RR Mug filled for a while...
Sun is trying to shine for a while, here in the Finger Lakes Region of NYS. Won't last as the forecast calls for some white flakey stuff to start falling again this afternoon. Yesterday was very dark and gloomy, but it was warm enough that the panels did fire up and at least melted off the sn*w from overnight. Made all of .31kWh... Whoopie! Still could end up with the best year of solar power yet though. (Already the second best year.)
Ah Ken...., I get it now! I really couldn't figure out what you were refering to as I thought it was some specific loco I didn't know existed. Makes sense now. I also assume the diagrams from YGW are of the shed he is building?
I have been waiting to hear from the electrician about installing the 240v EVSE (Electric Vehicle Suppy Equipment) for the Volt. He should be calling today or tonight. Have got the design done for my Christmas Cards but am waiting for the correct paper to arrive (Stapes locally was sold out...) so I can finish printing them and mail them out to folks. I will be getting some good paper delivered today to print out the Flyers for the MLK Day activites. We need to get them out into the community ASAP. As I have time I'll do some more on the many projects I have going on for the layout I guess...
Have a great day out there and stay safe!
I don't have a snowblower. I do have a small 4wd tractor with a bucket that works pretty well for clearing snow. This is a new location for me, so I don't really know what kind of snows this area gets yet. The weather people say February averages 10 inches of the stuff.
Perhaps the most interesting aspect will be getting out of here after a good snow. Nobody will be plowing these roads, and it is uphill in one direction, downhill then uphill in the other.
Should be fun.
CG
so CG you could walk to school in 10 inches of snow up hill both ways!
moelarrycurly4 so CG you could walk to school in 10 inches of snow up hill both ways!
Certainly! Blindfolded too. School busses were for sissies.
I look forward to the benefits of being snowed in with an ample supply of unbuilt kits. Should be nice and quiet here, except for the occasional sound of someone who should have known better and stayed home ending up at the bottom of the hill.
Fortunately, there is one lone home down there. They can do the hosting.
The highlight for the past week was hearing the 90th annual performance of the Messiah by our local college music department and community choir and orchestra. The head of the music department said our communities annual performance of the Messiah and Macy's Thanksgiving parade are both 90 year old traditions this year. Anyway the performance kind of kicks off the holiday season for me.
I have been trying to come up with an idea for building a British outline micro layout for that little loco adorning my avatar. I still have a few lengths of N scale track and a Peco switch left to build an inglenook type layout, but I have difficulties visualizing what´s in the back of my head for it.
LION: Oh Well, while I am tied up with a Broken Leg, one of my helpers cleaned up my room for me, so it was not a lost cause. Maybe I can get him to come down and do my office next. A rugged way to get the housework done! Hope it’s healing up well.

Now I’m down to Monday’s posts, and I see that your surgery held a surprise! Glad they were able to deal with it. That’s quite the volume increase - 254%, give or take. Yikes!
CN Charlie: Hope you are on the mend and all went well. On Giraffes, our favourite memory is having one lick the inside of our car’s roof through the window at one of those “Safari” park things in Ontario Many, many years ago. The tongue on that thing seemed to just keep on coming….
JeremyB: Sounds like the back pain (not a great birthday with that going on, I’d guess) may be a pulled muscle. Does a heat pad make any difference?

up831: Ulrich: That layout looks like it would be a good layout for anyone, let alone an eight year old. Nice!…I was thinking exactly the same thing! Love that vet joke too, I have a friend near here who will be able to use it when he acts as “tour guide” for a coach load of seniors from here to the Halifax Tattoo next July! (He’s only 80 himself, BTW)

Ken: Your stacks of foam ready for scenery detail is making me eye my blank table top! I’m nearly through the ballasting (just a couple of industrial spurs to go – I haven’t finalized the industries yet) THEN I’ll be able to seriously stack Styrofoam too!
Henry: The Navi's, as in navigation, built the canal system then build the railroads as migrant workers. The drank 9 pints of beer a day, on average. That's about 2 six packs. There’s an informative “Time Team” episode where they excavate a work camp for the Navvies who punched a railway tunnel through a rugged piece of hill country in Cumbria in the 1800s. I can’t find a handy link to the video – but the place is Rise Hill, if you wanted to dig on your own. The railway was the Settle-Carlisle Line about which, including the happy news that it is still running, can be found here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Settle%E2%80%93Carlisle_line#Construction

If you do--the dog does all of the correction, don't pull or tug on the lead-let the dog surge ahead, lag behind, check out a side yard, etc. Hold your hand at your waist, and in a soft voice correct the dog. We had one of those for “Rosie-the-railroad-dog” but she took no notice of it whatsoever!

On another matter, IIRC you helped a while back when I was having trouble with “Script has stopped working” issues in the Forum. You fix worked like a charm – but since there have been Windows 10 Updates the issue has resurfaced. I can’t remember what your solution was; and yes, I’ve looked through my files to see if I saved it, which it seems I failed to do. Help please…

The aforementioned Rosie(-t-RR-d) just couldn’t stand to be behind anyone, and would strain ahead, even when wearing that spiked collar thing! We should have called her Diotrephes! Well, looks like I’ve caught up with the pages, as well as clearing the snow from yesterday’s fall – except the front path which we don’t use very much. - …and on the mrr Front, I’ve cleaned off the track from yesterday’s ballasting, so that leaves very little to do to complete the task. I’ve ballasted all the track, even in the tunnels, because 1) it’s my way of being sure the track is fixed in place – sort of prototypical isn’t it? And 2) should it ever be that the tech for cameras gets so tiny that N Scale footplate videos are feasible, the tunnel views in the headlights will show ballasted track as well as (yet-to-be-configured) tunnel liners!
