Is IHC still around?
Posted by fourt on Thursday, November 10, 2016 3:47 AM

Are they still in business? They have a web site still. I am missing some parts of a 2-8-2 that I took apart a while ago for what reason I don’t know. Would like to order them from if I can. Also have 3 loose wires on it that I have no idea where they go, will post a picture when I get a chance.

The owner died, and the company was dissolved, but I am unable to pinpoint either date. I believe that the owner died sometime during the 2010-2012 time frame.

A company called 'IHC of Texas' appears to have bought the remaining inventory from from the estate of IHC's owner.  Not sure if this is a clearance of the old inventory, or if they were going to pursue getting the line put back in production.

Or just using the purchased name.  They seem to be nothing more than just a hobby shop in Texas selling most manufacturer's products.

IHC was always just a reseller with their own labeling.

IHC (the old one) had some interesting structure kits and from time to time I do visit the IHC of Texas (the "new" IHC) to see if they are available.  They do claim to introduce new product now and then so it seems to be something beyond selling off old inventory.

Their website does mention non warranty service and a parts department.  Here are excerpts:

Contacting IHC

you can contact us using one of these methods:

Isn't Walthers currently offering re-releases for former IHC/AHM structure kits, like the "Old Country Barn" = IHC "Village Blacksmith", "Consolidated Manufacturing" = *likely IHC "Uncle Joe's Barbershop"; "Two Story House" = *likely IHC "Aunt Millie's House"  and so on. Somebody must be molding these kit parts again.

*Likely, as those kit parts were resued and comingles with other parts in so many different kits (for example, I think the basic Society Hill Townhouse parts were reused by at least 7 other kits, e.g. Delta Frat House, Luigi's Restaurant, Uncle Joe's Barbershop, Burlington Mills, Consolidated Manufacturing, Last Stop Funeral Home, Herald Star Newspaper...and likely others as well). And these kits were sold under other "manufacturers" brands as well, such as Model Power.

The left and right wires from the motor go to the left and right terminals on the sides of the gearbox.  The headlight wires go to the same terminals.  It looks like the headlight wire is broken, so you'll have to either splice it and insulate it or put a new bulb in.

The picture does not show it, but the right hand side wire from the motor is soldered to the gear box. The C wire i think goes to the gear box on the visable left side. The A/B wire i think is the same wire that is broke going to the light. The tape on the C wire is blocking the view a little, might have to reshoot the picture.  Also missing is the frount truck that i need to see if IHC still has, and the screws i need.

Thanks, Darth Santa Fe, your post helped a lot wiring is not my thing.

Too bad IHC is no longer with us, thier locomotives and rolling stock look like they can easily be kitbashed into a better looking model or prototype.

I remember seeing thier proudcts in the Walthers 2006 catalog, I think the company was still in business during that time.

Here's an earlier forum thread from 2012 discussing and reminiscing about IHC.

Well got the wires fixed the other day, it now runs. Stupid question but what is the leading truck called, trying to find one on walters, need a 2 wheel one for it. If i type just truck well i get trucks.

Another thing i noticed today the 3 screw holes that are in the frame do not have holes for them in the upper body for screws to go into. Weird.

IHC is a fallen flag, but their products live on through train shows, hobby shops, and the Internet.

Was thinking the lead truck would not be that hard to make, a flat piece, with a hole drilled in it, a freight wheel, and a peice of half round stock to hole the wheel in place. Could cut off the truck points also to make it look better.
