yougottawantaEd - You like musicals ?
YGW, That statement can be correct with the question mark or an exclamation point!
I have to laugh at what age can do to a person —I had a life-long friend who was a huge fan of musicals and he would sing some of the tunes and describe some of the stories and I would just roll my eyes and smile... OK, whatever floats your Showboat I would reply.
Fast forward twenty years and here I am getting Singin' In The Rain, Oklahoma, State Fair, The Music Man, et al. from Netflix! Mrs. Pullman and I just love the "campy and corny" attractions, especially if they're in CinemaScope and Technicolor!
Not long ago I was inspired to make an addition to my layout that was actually inspired by Barbra Streisand!
While watching Hello Dolly which was partly filmed on my beloved New York Central in Garrison, New York, (across the River from West Point) I noticed an enclosed pedestrian overpass walkway. On further investigation I found a strikingly similar model by Faller and knew I had to have one like it on the layout!
http://barbra-archives.com/films/hello_dolly_3_streisand.html
Scroll toward the bottom of the site and see the photo of Babs at the Poughkeepsie Station showing the overpass.
Here's my version of the pedestrian walkway, still under construction in this view:
I recall being at many of these stations along the Hudson, Spuyten Duyvil, Dobbs Ferry, Harmon, Tarrytown, and they all had similar, enclosed pedestrian walkways. Some still exist today.
While exploring Garrison in Google Street View I came across this neat tunnel arrangement that dates to the New York Central days.
So, why did they "daylight" one track and not the other? Did they run out of money for the project? Why not run both tracks through the cut on the right? If we did this on our layouts wouldn't that raise some eyebrows???
Notice the old New York Central "NY-50" milepost seen between the bridge guardrails!
Turning 180° you get this view:
Sometimes Google catches some pretty neat scenes! The depot where "Dolly" was filmed is toward the last car of the train.
Take Care, everyone...

Good evening all.
Chloe - Hot fudge sundae please.
Weather - Warm again today. Hit 74, but tomorrow is supposed to be cooler. Much cooler.
W**k - Slow day today. Did a whopping $150 in sales... Whole day to hit it. Like Cudaken says, should have taken a book!
Speaking of w**k -
YGW - It was a compliment actually. The store manager was surprised I was picking up (and running with it) so quickly and smoothly. She told me today that she is "glad that (the other store) let me go", as, in her words, "I got one heck of an employee out of it." I will take that compliment, and the one from the other day. Makes me feel better, as I don't feel I am doing as well as I could be yet.
Cudaken - Yes, I do enjoy working retail, and do like this job as of right now. A nice manager, nice store owner, so it seems good so far. The store manager had me on my own today, with the few customers who came in. Thought I had a fridge sold, talked her into the next model up, better features, and a better warranty, and was just about to close the deal, when she backed out, to double check with her husband first. But, she did say that the would both come in tomorrow, and look for me. (They need a refrigerator.... Soon!) The store manager said that she was extremely impressed, and that I had hit all the right points.
Baseball - Not as close as I had hoped, but not a total blow out either. Torn between the game, and the CMA awards... Both are pretty good tonight. Baseball would totally win though if Indians were closer or leading. (Sorry Garry. I am rooting against your team tonight.) I will say, glad to see Ross get a homer in his final game... Got to respect what he has done in his career. But, I will say I am not liking the current score... Wrong team is leading right now. (For me anyways.)
Hope all are well, and everyone have a good night! (And Let's go Indians! )

Hello fellow diners,
I'd like some pepperoni pizza slices and a large container of beer.
Ed, I love the pictures of Garrison and the covered walkways.
Monday... I tried to work on the cruise control for my truck, to no avail, I replaced three different parts, and it's still not working. I'm going to keep researching the problem and see if I can find a solution before taking it to the shop. I have a service date for next Wednesday to find out for sure what's going on with it.
During the repair work, I had my phone in my pocket, and in short, needed to go to Verizon and get a new smart-phone. I got the phone, plus a Life-Proof Case, Asus tablet, magnetic charger, and a car-charger. Apparently between a healthcare employee discount, and a bundling deal, I not only saved quite a bit, the monthly bill went down significantly too. And we have substantially more data. We meaning, I am on a family plan. Whole experience had been a little overwhelming and as I liked my old phone, I would have gladly kept using it. The new phone is sweet though.
Tuesday... I thought I had the day off, and spent the day, doing errands, and again while working on the truck, trying to clean debris from the blower fan, missed three calls from work about going in. They were surprised as I'm usually on time, and never more then a few minutes late without giving them a head's up. No foul at least, but my night at work had been not good.
Today, I had the day off, and enjoyed not having to do much, though did make a bit of time to go to my favorite hiking spot.
Got one of my painted X29s decaled tonight. Felt great to finish it as it's been an unfinished model since I think this Winter. I have one more to go and I'll be done with X29s for a long time.
Cheers all,
Alvie
Well, looks like the Cubs pulled it off! First WS win in 108 years!!! That has to feel good! Just think, the last time they won the World Series steam was just entering its hayday! Wow!
Dave
I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
The wife went nuts when they won, she thinks she woke up the neighbors she was so loud.
Modeling on the cheap
I almost blew a small fortune on a Rapido Canadian Pacific FP7 A-B-A consist tonight. The 'Buy it now' price was $600.00 Cdn which is about 1/3rd less than the typical asking price. Something told me there had to be a catch, and when I read the listing in detail I found it. They are the earlier versions with Tsunami sound. I don't like Tsunami decoders. Upgrading the Rapidos to Loksound would have negated any savings that the deal offered. Darn!!!
But hey, the bank account is still intact, for now at least. Then I found some CP slab sided hoppers............. OH, I'm sorely tempted!!!
Howdy !...... Holy Cow!..... Watched a long game last nght. Cubs win 8-7.
! ! !
I have aited all of my life for the Cubs to get to the World Series. As I have said a few days ago, I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and I went to many Cubs games and White Sox games. We took the train to get to the ball park. It was the Burlington commuter trains into Chicago Union Station, and then the CTA "El" train to the park.
To celebrate. .....
.... I have brought Chicago Style Hot Dogs for lunch and Chicago Style Deep Dish Pizza for supper !
Chow down !
My life long model train friend and his wife are arriving here from northern Illinois later today. It will be a few days of fun including trains and celbrating the Cubs' big win.
Dave ... Congrats on acquiring the CP ABA set. Are they in the original CP color scheme ?

Garry:
You missunderstood. I said I "almost" blew my bank balance on the Rapido FP7s. Sober second thought caused me to back out because they had Tsunami decoders. I have not had good experiences with Tsunami decoders. (OK, all you Tsunami lovers please back off - I know how to get them to run just fine. I just don't need the hassle!).
If I had bought the Rapido ABA set I would have replaced the Tsunamis with Loksounds (just like Rapido has done - wonder why?!?) but that would have brought the price right back up to what everybody else wants for them, so no bargain. For now I will stick with my InterMountains (although I have to replace a couple of QSI decoders in them too).
Hey!
Now that the Cubs have won the World Series does that mean that the Toronto Maple Leafs might eventually win another Stanley Cup? I guess if the odds are the same I'll have to wait another 56 years for the Leafs to do that. I think the last time they won the cup was in 1964.
By the way, just to tell you how much of a diehard Maple Leafs fan I am (not), the last time I saw the Leafs play in person was when Eddie Shack was playing for the L.A. Kings, long hair and all! Toronto lost 3-0. Typical Leafs!
Mornin'.............
Zoe, I'll have a piece of dry toast and a cup or three of my Marrakesh Express Dark roast coffee... What? Yeah, blood test tomorrow and I've been bad lately.
So Steve, is that the goat that 'scape'd? I see the Cubs finally pulled it off!!!! That is the only Major League Team I have ever seen play a home game.... Have no recollection of who they played that day. I was visiting my son in Chicago and he took me to one of their games. Huh? yeah, they lost...... I used to go to local Farm League games right here in Geneva quite often though. More fun I think. Small park where you can actually get close enough to see what was going on for your $5.
I got up around 9am this morning and it was black outside! No sun at all peeking through the heavy dark clouds. Has started to clear a bit, but I guess we got some serious rain towards morning here. Need to go check and see how much ended up in my cellar...
I have about 3 days worth of w*rk to do today so I can't hang out here. catch you all later!

Hello all
RR Front - Barn plans - REJECTED ! I called them up to discuss the details and they said your garage has to have concrete floors not gravel, two hour seperation wall between Hobby/work shop and garage. WHAT ? I explained again it is a BARN with a Hobby/work shop. Unbelievable. She said with it enclosed on three sides it is a garage. WHAT ? In order to qaulify as a barn it has to be open on two sides. WHAT ? Oh my gosh my plans even say BARN in the description and I cannot understand what two sides vs three sides has to do with anything. It is for storing, tractor, bush hog, finish mower... Well it is BACK to the drawing board for me. Already contacted the engineer we will have to install "strong wall", "turned down slab" "two hour rated wall"...means LOTs more money !
Dave, Garry, Fourt - I guess you guys can say you have seen a once in a lifetime event - kinda of like Halleys comet ! Enjoy and celebrate !
FRRYKid - Wonder what caused the vehicle to burn up ?
Tin can - what exactly is Tex Mex food ? How is it different than regular Spanish food. Oh you might get a kick out of this. The different nationalities hispanics I work with all think their countries food is better. For instance. Honduras think they are better than San Salvador, Mexicans thinks their is better than Peru's.....its interesting to watch.
Minnesota - Hello, what is 48 cent old fashion ?
Richard - we are having temps in the 80s today !
UP831 - Finally everything is going well. Thanks. I will look at PM.
Tom - Conway Yard - is that in PA?
Lion - Wildebeast sauce ? Is that with Garlic or onions ?
Ed - Oh. I am not a fan but each to his own, That is an interesting question on the tunnel. Probably has to do more with cut to fill ratios and how much stone could be used to fill a "fill" area which ultimately boils down to money.
V8 - How many miles long is SP curve ?
Ricky W - Oh then that is a good compliment, congrats !
Alvie - cruise control is strange. Some days mine works fine and then some days I cant turn it on at all. Must be a ghost in the machine ?
Steve - I will pass on goat meat. Not a fan
Howmus - Sometimes small is better.

Hello Railfans!
Hows everyone doing? I trust things are just dandy here in NM. Never been to NM before. Makes me think of hottness, desert, and Clint Eastwood films. Better make my sassperilla a tall one Flo- .
I spose the most interesting news of late is in sports. Ive probably mentioned it before but I have to admit im the most UN-sports oriented guy you will ever meet. However I recognize what the Cubs have done and would like to congratulate them and their fans on their recent triumph. SALUTE!
I can sypmathize with the fans though.... as long as youve waited for this to happen, it seems like the same wait i am enduring until that "retirement' railroad pops up in my future-as-of-yet-unknown basement. I hope my wait is shorter!
And shorter its getting. Ya see, this weekend I hit the big five-OH mark. Going to be all kinds of fanfare and raising cane like Im turning off the cell phone, sleeping so late it will be dark again for breakfast, and just to top it off, heck, the dog can feed himself for one day!
Now I see some brows raising up in the same form as Spok would when posed by an interesting tale. Im sure your thinking "but Douglas, surely you intend to do something in the hobby'. Oh indeedy I do!
I was hankering to take a trip to the big thumb state and grab me some time with ole 1225. Weve never met. I figured it was about time we was introduced. Responsibilities here precluded that wish. You can bet your last coupler knuckle though I will be doing something railroad like!
I keep thinking my wait is getting shorter.
Other festivities would include procuring a German Chocolate cake. I mention this part bucause it would probably be a fitting dessert for the roast goat Steve served earlier. Ill pass on the goat, but take seconds on the cake!
Other than all that, things around here been purty nominal. Not too much in the hobby going on model or railfan wise. Weather is finally tolerable except for the billion candlepower nightlight in the sky. Dry too. Aint seen rain in well, heck, cant think of the last time i saw it! So, its been that long.
Congrats again to the Cubsters out there and you folks take care til my next pop in.
Douglas
Good Afternoon Diners,
Flo, I'll have an extra large coffee with lots of cream, please.
well, the Cubs did it! 108 years! And, I'm not even a fan. They knocked the Dodgers out so why not root for the Cubs regarding the circumstances. (MOH is a Cpubs fan as is my son.) My heartfelt sympathies to Cleveland and their fans. Last night's game was a nail biter from start to finish, and the Indians can hold their heads high. Both teams gave it all they had.
V8Dennis: I found the curve on the map. Rather impressive. Funny, I was in Morro Bay and Paso Robles a couple of years ago. Had no idea the curve even existed, otherwise I'd have tried to see it.
Steve: I guess you got our goat!
Perhaps Lion might consider goat for a snack or a change of pace from wildebeest.
i gotta get back to work.
Hello to everyone, and I hope everyone is OK, safe, and warm.

Good Afternoon,
Happy Birthday Johnboy!!! Hope your day is a good one.
We were gypped by the weatherman again today. It was supposed to be sunny and 55F but right now it is cloudy and 35F. He is promising again for tomorrow but you just can't rely on him.
Still working on the ground cover for the N scale. I find that I can only do a small area at a time and then I just have to leave it. I do admire people who can work for hours on end at a time on their layouts but not me.
Well time to do a few errands and then I think I will run trains for a while on the HO layout. Too much mess on the N scale.
Tai Chi tonight. I do enjoy it. Mind and body working in harmony.
CN Charlie
Afternoon again....
Chloe a hot chocolate with marshmellos would do nicely right now.
Steven.... I'm surprised nobody has picked up more about you offering "goat" for lunch... I presume your post had something to with "The Curse of the Billy Goat" since your timing was today.....
Sun is peeking though outside for a few minutes. Been mostly heavy clouds all day. I'll be having left over beef stew I made a couple days ago. What I don't eat tonight will go out in the trash though. Have a Court of Honor for the Handicapped Troop I am Commissioner for to go to this evening.
howmus Steven.... I'm surprised nobody has picked up more about you offering "goat" for lunch... I presume your post had something to with "The Curse of the Billy Goat" since your timing was today.....

@gmpullman: I ADORE your photo! I LOVE it so much when animals from different species get into non violent / friendly contact with each other! Soo interesting, cute and funny to watch!
CNCharlie Good Afternoon, Happy Birthday Johnboy!!! Hope your day is a good one.
Well, thanks CN. Charie. But I don't know how you remembered when I almost forgot.
Yes, I am 76 and counting on many? more.
What a beautiful day it has been, around 60f and for my birthday I cleaned the eaves throughs and washed the outside windows. On the third of Nov. in this country that is really notable. Most years crummy weather by Halloween.
A lot of people I know have a winter beater for a car and leave their better one parked in the cold weather.. I on the other hand have a summer beater that I drive back and forth for errands and work and park it for the winter, which i'll be doing here in a week, and then driving my 4x4 3/4 ton GMC for the winter. The summer beater is a 1994 Geo Metro GSI, with a 4 cylinder & 5 speed. Great on fuel, and even though it has 250,000 on it , it uses no oil and has had very few parts replaced. I bought it for my Youngest Son when he started College and I have been driving it since 2004. That is pretty good for an investment of $3000 when I bought it.
Not much happening on the LM&E, but hopefully soon. Been doing lots of planning for some further scenicking. There also is about 3 feet of double track and a crossover that I have never been satisfied with and I plan to realign it to start. Should have had it started already, but with the good weather a guy keeps doing yard and house work that didn't get done earlier.
YGW. sorry to hear of the set back, however we all are confident you will still make it work..
Garry, hope you have a great visit with your friends and he is into MR. as well. My only friends in the hobby are all of you, and I am grateful for that.
My wife says she would like to have supper with me, so I must go, especially since it's my birthday, although I will have to blend it to a liquid to get it down. Still better than Ensure, although I don't complain, it kept me alive for a long time.
Hope you all are enjoying good or improved health situations and that you all have an enjoyable week end.
Johnboy out...............I too shall pass on the goat.
Thanks anyway Br. Otte.

Yesterday I was in such a bad mood I hated every thing! I am better mood tonight so I thought I miss spell for a while.
Rick So is your Bonus daily or is it monthly? Either way I am glad you like the job so far.
YGW I have never seen a barn that is opned at both ends? (No Doors) Here that is called a Lean-to. Well there roof slops but it the same idea. Now, if they mean both ends need to open, why not make barn door on both end and after it is bulit seal the doors? Later it might come in handy to be able to open the other end anyway.
Train Front One of the things that sent me off the deep end yesterday (Besides The Wife) while messing with the POS PK 2000 E-7 with sound I changed all my engines to it address 12. I am just glad I did not have every I have running on the main line!
Got the C&O RS-2 speed matched to the PK 2000 GP-7 today! Either the motor in the B&O GP-7 is very fresh or the RS-2 is pretty much worn out? Had to turn down the B&O GP-7 CV 2 to like 102 or something like that. B&O GP-7 is a much better puller.
Ed Would you mind PM me your phone number? Like to talk to you.
The Might Y-6b is running great so I am happy!

Well that makes no sense at all.
The last two places I owned had barns on the property. One was enclosed on four sides with an open lean-to attached to one long side. There were (barn) doors on the front and back. The floor was dirt.
At the other place the "barn" was completely open on all four sides. The floor was dirt. It was also falling down. The county assesed it as a barn, so it was a barn. I showed them a picture when I bought the place. They removed it from the tax rolls when they saw the condition.
gmpullman My cat, Wilson, is planning a putsch or something with the goats... the chickens are somehow in on it, too! I caught them passing secrets just the other day!
Maybe Wilson is just appraising a future meal. Have you been feeding him lately? Cats like to sniff their food before chowing down.

YGW: I can't say that there really is a difference in Tex Mex vs. other Mexican foods. Well, not at least to my palate. It all tastes good. Folks in New Mexico have their variety of Mexican food as well; including diabolical green chile sause.
YGW No Peruvian restuarants around here.
Rail Webcams The Chama site now requires $ to watch. Too bad I enjoyed watching the deer as much as the trains. Last I saw 3 bolted and one stayed to watch the steam engine pass by one track over. Photobucket is down again.

Had our weekly Production meeting. No issues. Sales lady always bring really good food Today we had Humus, salami, pita chips, chees cake, apples, cheese, grapes. No one misses the meetings. I wonder why ?
RR Front - working with teh engineer to make the changes. We talked and two hours later he had teh stamped copy emailed. Now I have to wait on snail mail so that I can hand carry the changes in
Henry - we had 80s yesterday, 50s today and even more amazing we actually had a very nice fall this year. Usually it goes from blazing hot to blue blood cold in a few days. Enjoying this weather. And the wonderful leaf colors too.
Tin Can - Diabolical green chile sauce - Whoa that sounds HOT. I love hot food. How does it taste ?
V8 - Thats a great investment - problem is when one sells they have yo go buy a anotehr home. They are in the 300k to.
CG - I absolutely agree. Makes no sense. I wish they had a "comon sense card " one was allowed to pull out and use when dealing with Goverenment. You know like the game card "get out of jail free card"
Ken - I agree. Barns with out sides are walk in sheds, lean too...But if it makes sense then teh Gov. usually cannt handle that. It has to be confusing for much ( not all ) Gov. to work. You know to think about it. A goat is a GTO ! Neither taste very good !
Johnboy - Yea I know I can fix anything. The issue isnt the fixing it is the cost. Throw enough money at most anything and you can fix it !
Ed - Putsch ??? What is Putsch ? Is that foreign for push ?
Howmus - What is court of honor ?
CN Charlie - Tai Chi ? Is that Phillipino or Korean flavored food ? Do you ever watch any of the Rapido You tube videos ? I LOVE that zany guy. He is a nut !
UP831 - Howdy to you too ! How is your day treating you. Mine was going great. Then I got out of bed
PM Rialfan - Well Happy big 50 Birthday uh should I call the fire department to be on hand when you light all 50 of those candles ? Hope you have a great birthday
