 Evening Diners

Flo, Ed and I will have a Beer please. Yes used the B&O F7A mugs.

ricktrains4824
think your slow days came my way

Rick Slow Front is stalled over my store! In 2 days, I have only had 4 customers and none of them bought a Dang thing! Heck none of them would show any intrest for anything!

Got here late due to doing home book keeping. Looked at what was in the checking acount, this megar check (normally the bigger check, not this time around) what I owe and so forth. It is offical, I am screwed!

Credit Score Guess I need a witch doctor to help me figuer it out! While I do understand a lot of it, still seems stupid in many ways! My total debit is around $4000.00 while my total limt is $9,000.00. So if I can get another credit card my score would go up? But, if I where to get another credit card, age of my credit history would go down and that hurts the score as well! Whistling If I had not have to have the fence work I be sitting pretty.

 Later Ken

No plans for the daa other than to stay alive!

CU & all the best!

Lunch time.

Hey everyone. Still very busy. We are so busy we cannot buy a carpenter, teh electricians are working 60 hours a week and cannot find anyone to hire,in fact they will hire and train people while they work ! The lanadscaper is hiring .....not enough workers here.

Garry - Pass a boston cream please and I have some eight oclock coffee if there is any left.

Ulrich - Staying alive is a good thing ! Hang in there

Ken - I have a super powered screw driver if you need it ! It will help unscrew you may not be good for the money side !

On 911 I was in a suburb of Washington DC, We could see the smoke from the pentagon, I know several people who were there and were injured. One of our friends wife was killed in there. To much of America it is now history and less painful. But when you lived with it in your backyard and you directly know people who suffered from that cowardly attack the hurt and anger still linger....

I still remember the jets as they roared overhead flying cover over the area in the following weeks.

That day at lunch time I went to a local Mom and Pop resturant and the place was filled with people standing in disbelief as they showed the tower over and over again.

The worst part was a arabic man with his wife in her garb and face covered I watched as he grinned and rejoiced as the towers went down....

I have never wanted to hurt some one so badly in my life as I did at that moment. But I restrained my self and walked away.

I can still see that stupid grin. Still ticked off by it !

Afternoon.......  Wow! Only 3 people in the diner today.

I would have been in earlier but things got in the way.  A friend from a couple streets over stopped by just as I was about to write something and asked if I would print up some donation envelopes for her church.  I have done this for them for several years now and it is a quick and easy project.  She brings over the envelopes for me to use so low cost to me.  Think I could find the file from last year???  I told her I would look for it, make the changes needed and print them for her.  The file was right where I thought it was, but I didn't see it in the folder...  Duh!  So that is all finished, printed while I checked emails and dealt with a few needing to have answer, had lunch, and held Blackie in my arms for about an hour.....  That is his daily need from me now...  The lady will pick up the envelopes tomorrow when she is out and about.

I have the newsletter finished and all set to be put up at our website.  Sent it the webmaster last night.  just as I was shutting down for the night an email came in.  It was the webmaster telling me that the site we use now requires the use of different software than the one he has been using.  He said he has the new one and is figuring out how to get it done.  He will let me know when it is up so I can send an email out to the membership.  In the meantime I will get to printing the ones I mail out and the extra copies for a couple LHS.

Today is a nice, mostly cloudy "fall" day here in the Finger Lakes Region of NYS.  Currently 72°F outside, the air conditioner has been shut off and I have the windows open and a fan in one moving some fresh air into the house.  This is the first year I can remember where there is virtually no Ragweed Pollen in the air.... I have only seen a couple small ragweed plants around my yard (they were quickly disposed of too).  No pollen alert at the Weather Channel for a few weeks now.

Gotta get a couple things done away from the 'puter, so I will catch you all l;ater.

Good afternoon everyone,

I got off work at 3, walked outside and thought, yeah it's hot out. Now sitting at home with a cat in my lap about to take a quick nap before running some errands.

On the hobby front, I recently got to work on an F&C B&O C15 baggage car kit. The underframe alone is a lot of work. The rest of the car does not look to labor intensive. I initially planned to skip the various underframe piping, but elected to try putting it all in place. A lot of work, but it does look worthwhile. At least to me. The trucks arrived Monday, F&C trucks with Intermountain wheels. I didn't notice the model didn't have decals so I contacted F&C and will get the decals in time.

YGW He was very lucky I was not there, he would have been carried out!

Train Front On the sprung truck Coal Cars, I think I maybe getting the hang of it. With some luck I will have another one of the layout shortly.

Ed The F7's can sure do a slow speed drag! They have been pulling a coal train at around 5 scale MPH for about a hour! Only thing I have that is better is the PCM Y6b. Seems funny I like Slow, being Cuda Ken?

9/11 remains a painful and raw topic for many.

Since the anniversary of the attacks is several days past now, let's drop the topic for another year.

Evening Diners,

I'm back from vacation. Apparently I went to Reno to see the camel races but I didn't see it. It costed $15 to get in.

I rode on the Virginian and Truckee rail line. I ride lasted 30-45 if I timed right. I couldn't take pictures on the ride. It might ruin the technology equipment.

Later on I'll show pictures. On different days I'll tell a different day within a week.

Evening All,

Since I've been in school about 4 weeks, I'd thought I would describe my classes and what I've been experiencing so far.

History 17 (8:00-9:15am): Ihe professor likes the students to interact during his class so participate. He assigns 2 papers on two novels we read during the semester, (Do not wait to start these and watch out!, he will grade them like an engligh teacher). Daily attendence counts as credit. We also have 15 do-at home online quizzes, but he's much more lenient on the midterm and final. Take his class.

CMT 230: (9:00-12:30pm)  Professor starts the class with a 15min discussion about anything related to technology, then lectures for 2 hours, floowed by a 20-25 min break, then we work in the lab till 12:20/12:30pm. The Quizzes are take-home, and the midterm/final is open book/open note.

Well, I'm off to bed, might drop by tomorrow.

Gidday Chloe, Could I have a couple of wine glasses please, hon30critter Dave may drop by and there’s a bottle of a Finger Lakes Pinot Noir to try.

ATSFGuy,reading novels in history???? And excuse my ignorance but what’s CMT, I’m sure it’s not Compulsory Military Training.

Well I’ve been busy for the last nine days, had an infrequent customer bring his float plane up from down south, he had said he was coming up this winter but arrived out of the blue. He’s a good guy but is hard work as he has a habit of “Oh while I’m here can you do this.....” Not that I’m complaining about the extra w**k, it’s just that I like when possible to prior plan as it can be far more efficient and less stressful. Anyhow got him away this afternoon and he got home safely.

Well the days are starting to draw out, warm enough this evening to get the BBQ out. Lamb chops with onion done with capsicum, garlic, and chill, oven baked wedges, and eggs, over easy.Dinner

Good morning .... Coffee and a donut, please.

Bear .... Nice plane. I recall seeing many pantoon planes when I was in Alaska. There are many pilots in AK.

I believe I solved all the derailing problems with the passenger train I was working on. I'll be running it often to see if more gremlins persist. Next: the bridges.

Earlier this week, my implanted device (Pacemaker - defibrillator) was checked, and it is ready to be replaced because of low battery voltage. Surgery for that will be in mid-November. I can have close to normal life in the meantime. I might even do a little traveling. It will be my 7th heart operation. The device has been signalling me about the low voltage for about 5 days now.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a bowl of Vanilla Almond Organic Granola with some fresh blueberries and a large pot of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast coffee this morning...  Thank you Ma'am.  Oh?  Yes, my R&GV RR Mug.

Nice sunny day outside....  You what they call it when we have a huge spill of solar energy?   A Nice Day!  Today is one of those days.....  All of 64°F out there right at the moment...  I shall be taking a jacket to wear out at the Museum for the meeting and train ride tonight.  Huh?  But, of course, I'll be working as Car Host on the Erie Caboose.

Still waiting to see the Newsletter up at the Web Site for the Division.  I hope the Webmaster is able to figure out how to use the new software Go Daddy is requiring......  Need to get info out to the Membership!

Have some windows open and the fan in the bedroom window to keep from using the air conditioner.  That should save me a couple kWh today.

Garry, hope you get the surgery done before the battery goes completely out on it...  I would think the surgery for the replacement would be fairly minor?

Have a few emails to answer and a bunch of other items on todays list.  better get myself moving....

Garry - Here's a true story about myself & pace makers. Many years ago I had night shift (14 hours) on the fire dept. I had a dream that the batteries in my pace maker were getting low and it was beeping at an ever faster rate. I know, they don't beep & I don't have one either. Anyway, every store I went to was closed & I couldn't find any batteries when I woke up in a cold sweat with my chest pounding. After slowly realizing it was a dream & calming down some, I figured out that the guy in the bunk across from me had a travel alarm & that was the source of the beeping sound. I never did figure out what that dream was all about. If my grandmother had still been alive, I would have asked her. She always bought "dream books" so she could decide what numbers to play that day.

 After Noon Diners!

Flo, Ed will have Beer and I will have a Bolier Maker please.

Today was a good day till my wife Kicked In! Bang Head

Health Front Big Smile Lots of good news there! Hammer Toe problem is way better and there is No Infection! PA in the leg and foot ulicer clinic. He all so gave me some new style bandage that will take more pressuer off the toe! Got my eyes checked, still the same for the last few years. Plus my A-1C is down .50. Still higher than I wanted, but I will take it for now!

Felt like working when I got home. Got some more pickets cut and was insatlling them. When I was done I was going to cut some more stringers then cut the backyard.

Then The Queen of over acting Kicked In! Sigh To my wife everything is the worst thing that can happen. She came out Screaming Sparkie Broke a Thoot and we need to get him to the VET! She got mad because I just did not jump up from what I was doing. Now I was inside with in 3 minutes, I was not going to leave my tools layoing outside.

I know she over reacts and should have looked my self, but Sparkie The Rocket Dog has had half his theet pulled before we got him. So I did not check his mouth. Bang Head Just cost me $40.00 to have  matted hair pulled off a tooth! Bang Head I should have knowen better, my wife for weeks was saying there was a Hughe Spider by my back door and she was afraid of it! It turned out to be a leaf stuck in a web! Laugh

YGW Yes there is nothing better looking to me than a Blowen Engine!

Is it to late to change my mind on that comment?

Wake up!

I'll have a donut and coffee.

Tom... Dreams are hard to figure out. That one was a real doosy.

Ken.... Glad you have a good report on the foot situation.

YGW.... The device has an alarm that sounds for a few seconds at 8:00 am each morning. It is a high pitch tone.

Ray ,.. Thanks for commenting ..... The battery still has enough voltage to last through the end of 2016. The surgery is not too bad.  They just take the old device and put in another.

...

Have a nice day everybody !

Happy Friday!  I know, no big deal since I'm retired, right?

I'll be away for a week, so please don't worry about me.  The plan is to do some rail-trail biking, eating and drinking, and hopefully go to a drive-in movie.

Modern Era stuff:  No, not trains.  I have joined the 21st century and I now have a Smart Phone.  They sent me a letter saying they were shutting down all the 2G phone service that supported my old flip phone, but they would give me a new Smart Phone for free, or a non-2G flip phone if that's what I wanted.  I suppose I'll find uses for the Smart Phone.  Better camera, anyway.

Morn.....  Ooooops....  Ah Afdternoon folks!

Chloe, just need a cup of decaf for the moment....  Ah, on second thought how about a slice of the pumpkin pie with a hunk of chedder cheese too?

Place has been empty today.  I stopped by late this morning and the doors appeared to be locked.  So I went out back, took of my shirt, and got some of the major Solar Energy spill currently occuring here in the Finger Lakes Region.  Huh?  Yep, that means it is a nice day here.  The little wheel on the electric meter for the panels is spinning very nicely at the moment.  Did some math.  If the panels can average just 6.5 kWh a day for the rest of the year I will have the best year yet for electricity from them. (Yesterday was 20kWh.)

I am supposed to absorb some ray's (about a total of a half hour) as often as possible for treatment of my psoriasis.  Have an appointment next Wednesday to have her check how well the new regimen is working.  I know my back is better!

 Mr. B, have fun!

Tomorrow the Museum will be open for visitors (and Sunday) all day.  The Bulletin Order says to expect about 75 visitors from the B&ORR Historical Society!  If any of you are members of it and are coming to see us, be sure to introduce youself.  I'll be the old guy with a beard working Trainman/Car Host on the Erie Caboose.  Hope the Thunderboomers hold off while we are open this weekend (they can arrived after we tie up for the night OK......).

Have a bunch of STUFF to do today including some things I am waiting to hear on.  Best get myself moving!

Hello,

I have a question: I have a brand new Kato business car lettered for ATSF, it came with plastic grey couplers installed. Do I need to swap these out for metal ones? If so, please list the type of Kadee coupler and number.

Thanks.

ATSF. .. My Kato business cars couple with Kadee brand couplers, and there is no need to change them. Of course the knuckles do not open and close on the Kato couplers but that does not bother me.

Flo, I will have a Beer and if Ed shows up give him one as well. Ed must being having another one of those days.

Speaking of one of those days

Work Front I really don't know how much worse it could get? Thrid day in a row with only 2 customers and still have not sold a thing? This was all so my 3rd day straight with out a single sale! If my feet where in better shape I would be saying "Would you like fries with that"?

B&O Coal Car Front. I got another one on the rails! Yes Dug down to the bottom layer and I am stumped. Never seen this kind of coupler pocket before. Guess I need to take some photos and post them. A Kadee sure is not a drop in fit.

Time to fiddle with a coal car, Ken

Greetings, Fellow Diners...

cudaken
Flo, I will have a  Beer and if Ed shows up give him one as well. Ed must being another one of those days.

So true, Ken. Come to think about it, this may be the frosting on the cake for the few dumb days I had last week! It seems like I picked up some kind of Dead and the only time I was out in the "general population" was when I went on the Cuyahoga Valley train. Someone there must have been a host to something contageous. Thanks for sharing... NOT!

Otherwise—things are better. I think I'll skip the beer and go right for a hot toddy with a shot of honey and lemon. Maybe some Italian wedding soup, please Flo?

I did manage to get some modeling in. It started out that I was only going to open the box and take a peek at the instructions... five hours later I was drilling holes for grab irons!

This is a LaserKit by American Model Builders. It was a real pleasure to build except toward the end where I had to be extremely careful not to mess up any of the details! As it is I kind of crunched the end railing when I put the coupler cover on. Not too bad and I'm sure there's a NYC caboose out there somewhere that the end rail got a little mushed Wink

I still have brake detail, truss rods, smoke jack and final painting and decals to get to but overall, this is a great kit for anyone wanting to try their hand at a laser cut kit.

Ken, a Sprogg is more like a mini command station rather than a PR-3 or a Locobuffer. You can program through JMRI but also use the Decoder Pro throttle to run trains. I use it in the workshop on a 15 foot test track that also has a DC MRC throttle with meters so I can check DC engines before installing decoders.

...and yes, I like the Monon if it's the crimson and gray—not so much the black and gold. And the Monon is the only direct route to French Lick Springs!

I hope everyone is getting along OK, and I hope for those who are having a rough time of it, that you will find some comfort and relief soon.

At this moment we are beginning to finally have some rain! Yes It has been weeks since we have had any to speak of. I'll bet our average is down by ten inches or more for the summer!

Well, the NKP 765 is in town and I'll be checkin' her out next Saturday.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/fan-t/29061135263/

This time I'll try to have a memory card in the camera Dunce

I'll try not to be a stranger. I did peek in the window a few times and the Diner was deserted! I'm partly to blame.

'til next time, Regards, Ed

That's yours truly leaning on the shovel on the right... (note the B&O watch fob, Ken) youth is wasted on the young!

Good morning everyone,

Flo and Zoe, a big cup of coffee with cream. Scrambled eggs with cheese, and toast. Thank you!

On the work front, I am working a six day stretch of morning shifts. I'll be looking forward to Tuesday when I have a day off for once.

YGW, I like that idea to post some in-progress pics of my C15 project. Next time I work on the model, I'll keep my cameras ready.

Ed/Gmpullman, your Laserkit caboose looks lIke it will be a good one when finished. A bunch of us will be looking forward to more pics.

I lettered two Roundhouse wood 40' milk cars to look more like my Intermountain and Walthers models. I've not see prototype photos, so technically they're freelance cars, but I like them and they're plausible. I'll post pics soon.

I had a frustrating time with photobucket on my phone so I'll start using my computer instead. I'll try spending the 10-bucks a year for the ad free experience.

Well, I received my skirting and they seem to have a little problem with quality control. Here are the requested and actual sizes of my sections.

Requested
Actual
12”x33”
24”x33”
24”x36”
9”x36”
24”x36”
24”x36”
36”x36”
42”x36”
36”x36”
42”x36”
36”x36”
43”x36”

At least they got one right. The 9" piece is the one that boggles my mind. Also, my total order was 14' and the total shipped was over 15'. The good news is that it just may work better than planned. I am going to have to cut a couple of pieces to fit and have a neighbor finish the edges with her serge sewing machine, but I will be better able to position the section that covers my pull-out throttle tray. (Two pictures are worth two thousand words.)

Richard, my mother was an excellent seamstress.  She even made me a Geo Washingon costume in 2nd grade.  She also made my current drapery, despite disliking my interior design consultant, who she rightly pointed out, wore sprayed on jeansBig Smile, unfortunately, she did not pass on any of those skills.  Sprayed on jeans was married to a friend, which was not a "do not touch" to one of his best friends.  Sad

Just back from Durango & Silverton.  If that is not on your bucket list, shame on you.  Add Mesa Verde and Monument Valley.
