Oh, Ken, the Sprogg is like a complete mini command station. It will program through Decoder Pro and run trains through the Decoder Pro throttle. The PR3 is only a programmer and interface between JMRI and Loconet.
That's whyt it bumks me that a $90 ESU Loksound decoder got toasted while basically being on the "Programming track" I'll send an email to Matt Herman later today and see if I can get it replaced. I just bought it in May.

Another glorious morning in the Valley of the Sun. The temperature was in the mid-70s for this morning's ride. It felt so good, I decided to extend the ride an extra 5 miles for a total of 28 miles. My legs have fully recovered from the time off.
I do enjoy three-day weekends. With all of my other commitments, and my w*%k schedule, I have very little free time on a normal weekend. A three-day weekend is a gift of a day. I finally finished cutting and mounting all of my fascia, and I am mostly happy with the way it turned out. It is not perfect, but then again, neither am I. Mrs. ROR says it looks great so I am happy.
Edit: Adding a picture of yesterday's accomplishment. I hung the green skirt to see what I think. I think it may be growing on me.

I'll be taking a vacation for the week, so I'll be leaving tomorrow morning. I will be a radio silence since I don't know if i've free WiFi service.
The dogs will still be at home with the other three. Two of which needs to step up in responsibilities of caring and watch their every move. Especially my sister's dog Charles, he's like a Three year old child that doesn't listen.
I wonder how the family will get along without me. The answer: not well I'm their structure that holds them together, I'm the nonlazy one.
If I see a UP train passing thru the desert I'll take some photos. And post them here, so see you guys next Tuesday.

Today sucked Rail Spikes! Nancy would not leave me a lone viva phone and I was ready to walk out! She was trying to give me a pep talk, lets just say it did not sound like one to me! Exmaple, I have the highest gross profit margen in the company. She says that is my problem, I won't beg for a sale! Half the offers I call in for a price approval are turned down by the GM! Nancy has the lowest profit % in the company normally. I will pit one of my $1000.00 deal against her $2000.00 deals any day! I swear Nancy does not understand the word Profit!
All she see is the Dollar sign, $2000.00 has to better than $1000.00, Right! Wrong She wrote one deal up for $4800.00 a few years ago, profit was $213.00?
While I have more to say, need to go on line and look for a used car.

I read in the paper not long ago that the median price of a house in Porter Ranch was $710,000. I wonder if the west valley is the reason for this high average price.

I attended my first meeting of the Barrie / Allandale Railway Modellers tonight. I'm not sure why it has taken me so long to take the plunge, but at least the ball is rolling now.
They are a very nice group of guys. They were very friendly and everybody introduced themselves straight away.
They have a reasonably sized operating oval which is made up of the modules that they take to shows. There are 3 or four more or less parallel tracks with cross-overs between the tracks, plus some spurs. That occupies the center of the room.
They also have quite a few older modules around the outside of the layout room which are currently being re-constructed. They will build a couple more modules to allow traffic to move from the center ovals to the outside tracks. Unfortunately the aisle width is a bit tight, as I discovered when I had to get past Steve so I could see Rick's Fast Tracks turnouts. Getting past Steve was rather an intimate affair!
In order to become a member I have to attend eight meetings. Then there is a probation period (not sure how long) before becoming a full member. I think the requirements are quite reasonable given the fact that there seem to be some oddballs out there who might have a hard time getting along with other folks based on my observations of previous participants in these forums.
I'm looking forward to participating with the group, assuming they will have me of course.

V8Dennis: It looks like SoCal real estate is back to its pre- bubble levels. I guess no one learned a thing from the last one. If Porter Ranch is in the 700s, you can bet the rest of the area is right around that price point.
As for Tennessee home prices, they've always been lower than some other areas of the country.
Left work early today. Have a bad cough. Think it might be bronchitis, but not sure. We're doing the usual, chamomile tea, garlic, echinacia, etc.

Hobby Front: Got the boxcar yesterday that I will convert to a cleaner car. A few issues with it. One being that the wheelsets were a little too short. (They wobbled laterally in the trucks. Happened to have some extra Athearn wheelsets that fit the bill.) The other issues will take a little bit more research and, most likely, taking the car with me when I go on vacation.
We won our hockey game last night, coming back in the last 20 minutes or so from 2 goals down to win by 3. The other goalie had a phenomenal game. I was OK, but I was better at the end.
Real estate has gotten crazy here, too. I was reading an article about a proposed development nearby. The builder said he was hoping to put in some "affordable housing, in the range of $800,000." Considering that the rest of the development will likely be north of a million and a half, like all new construction here, it sounds like a bargain.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

I actually had a quite enjoyable day today. My friend Claus called yesterday evening and invited me over to his place. He came to fetch me in the morning, took me to our Home Depot, where I got some lumber and a few electrical wiring things, all being paid for by a gift voucher I gotr for my birthday. We continued to his place, which is a little over 20 miles from my home. We made use of the nice and sunny weather by building the contraption for the layout lighting outdoor. I got a nice sunburn! After a nice lunch consisting of a Welsh interpretation of a cottage pie, we finished the thing and he too me back to my place. The layout lighting is now installed on my layout, but not yet wired completely - that´s for me to do tomorrow! Not much of a job, though!
It was nice to have a chance of setting one´s mind on other things for a change and to escape the misery we are in for a few moments. It´s good to have friends like Claus, who really care!

(As aside small towns here in NZ who only have a volunteer fire brigade use old air raid sirens to call out the men, my Dad still hates that sound after all this time!!)
I guess it was an indication of how little people used to travel, that there was so much variety in accents in such small distances.
My Mum (Kiwi born) said that when she first met Dad she found him difficult to understand and hoped she made the right response at the appropriate time. Having heard a recording of Dad talking I can understand!!
And it can be funny how some folk retain their accent, my Granddad from the Scottish Highlands who immigrated when he was 20 still had a very strong accent, especially talking on the phone, when he passed away at 93. I, myself had occasion to call a business in Georgia, US, and while I’m sure the bloke was polite, I’m not sure who had the greatest lack of understanding, (several faxes sorted the matter out.)

It has been a rainy, drizzly day in the Valley of the Sun as the remnants of Hurricane Newton pass by. I do find it interesting that desert weather is affected by hurricanes. On the bright side, it's 3:00 in the afternoon and only 85F.
I pulled the trigger on the remaining skirting for the layout. I decided I liked the "Sage" color for the skirting. It adds a little color to an otherwise bland office. I am still impressed with the price. It comes in custom lengths of one-foot increments. The skirting I ordered is 36" tall, and is costing $6.50 per foot. This includes a professional shirred pleat, serge-stitched side and bottom, and 2" velcro along the top. Mrs. ROR said we would be hard-pressed to make them ourselves for less. It will be nice to cover up all of the storage containers under the layout.

I haven't been posting or answering much this summer, but I have stayed abreast of whats going on here. It is starting to cool off quite a lot here in the evenings, have to wear a warmer jacket to take "Cody" (new Dog) for his evening stroll. We put on about 2 to 3 kilometers each eve. It sure has helped my legs as well as his exercise.
Ulrich, Glad that Claus was able to assist you and give you some friendship time. Looks like a very good job there. Show us when you get it lit up. Prayers for your health and situation, you and Petra are always in our thoughts.

Der, funny you should mention those pesky fruit flies! These are NOT the fruit flies that I remember as a younger man. These things have mutated into something crossed between a carpet beetle and a stink bug with a little dog flea thrown in. I have swatted them with a 20 oz. fly swatter and they buzz right off, unscathed!
The fruit flies I remember as a kit were frail, flimsy little things... not these!
We keep a cordless vacuum in the kitchen, not a dust buster but a bug sucker, and go on a "bug hunt" like Spanky used to, except more high tech!

You have me in awe over the inch-and-a-half Pennsy GP30! There was a time when I played around with the "live steam" crowd. There were several tracks here in N.E. Ohio and I would transport my Chessie System GP-50 to them back in the day!
Loads of fun but it involved some real hefty work, too. When your ballast arrives in a ten-ton truck it's time to re-think this part of the hobby!
Well, I'm going back to my lower berth for a little shut-eye. I told the porter to wake me at Poughkeepsie. I want to see the engine change at Harmon.

I finished the wiring of the layout lighting fixture this morning and much to my amazement, it worked! However, those color-variable LEDs area disappointment. The light is not bright enough to really light up the layout and the shadows are colored (pink - ). I have a few normal halogen spotslights leftover, which will do the job, but I will keep the LEDs to see how the perform in a night scene.

I play pick-up hockey now. I haven't been in a league for a very long time - 10 years or more. But, Tuesday Night Hockey is an institution, or at least I'm an institution at Tuesday Night Hockey. I've been playing at that rink on Tuesday nights since Bobby Orr won the Stanley Cup for the Boston Bruins back in 1972. I've managed to retire from work before retiring from hockey.
We play all year long. Honestly, I don't think I could stop for the summer and resume in the fall, so we all just keep playing week after week.

Newton came and went without much fanfare for us. It passed a ways east of us and we got some rain yesterday morning but not as much as with some of the other storms. There were flood warnings in place, but no flooding.
I am getting a little worried about YGW. It has been a week since his last visit. At that time he was hoping to get out of the "Horsepiddle" the next day. I hope all is well.
