Lunch Time ! Dinner Eating good today. MOH packed my lunch last night Thumbs UpBig Smile have some awsome left overs she cooked, couple of snacks ( healthy good tasting ) no cardboard for me today !!! Yeaaa !

Update on my dad. He is a stubborn one and he is scareing the heck out of us. He has had another chest pain and he absolutely refused to go to the ER from the rehab place ! He is make very slow improvements. Thay have had him sitting up. We have family and friends around him 24/7. The rehab place told my Mom that no one could stay with him at night. She told them fine we will take our buisness elsewhere ! They changed their mind. He is going to be in rehab about ten weeks.

MR. B - PM - I have a suggestion on the bike path that I think will fulfill both needs ! Put a steam engine and rods on a schwinn and take off down the ole bike path with cinders flying !

Howmus - WATCH OUT Mr. B. dishes stacked to the ceiling are tilting your way !!! RUN !

Ulrich - is there anyway we can help you ?

Ken - What Christams came early to you ?

CN Charlie - Howdy !

Garry - Heck even N&W went off its rocker and went blue for a while ! YUCK ! Black, maroon, gold for me !

brent - No sir ! Anything with teeth like Orcas, Alligaters, Sharks my body does not go near them ! I watched JAWS and I was traumitized for life !

Richard - I have seen some skirting made like a curtain and attached using velcro. Nice looking and easy.

V8 - You are single ? No misses V8 ? Dont you get lonely ?

Angel - That is not good retiring and becoming a couch potato. I have seen to many people die that way.

Ed - What are Beignets ?

JaBear, Jeremy, Galaxy ( if you are around ) Flip ( I know you check in sometimes ) Reinhard, DER ( where are you ? ) ....Hi !

Folks if you hear the rails pounding, cinders flying, steam rising and blowing and the J running by at 112 mph that is me at the wheel ! Super busy at w**k and gotta make the station on time with some folks homes and pulling some freight too ! Will pop in when I can.

If you are so inclined - PLEASE Bend your knees for my dad and continue to pray for a speedy recovery for my dad !

Thanks a lot

PM Railfan

However, one wonders if oneself isnt 'cheating' on the home road when our eyes wonder to other roads.

That's somewhat of an advantage of modeling what I do. Big Smile BN Post-merger allows for quite the rainbow: NP Yellow, Green and Brown; GN Blue, Green and Orange; "Q" Red and I probably forgotten a color. Including the freelance colors I have, about the only color I don't have on my layout is purple. (And, yes, I do have a pink engine. And no it is not an elephant.)

Hobby Front: I called the other hobby shop this morning and I was a bit surprised to find they were out of the cork sheet I wanted. Given that I need to order the bed via the Internet anyway, I decided to go whole hog and get the bedding, a couple packages of track and a couple other items. Those other items are a couple packs of beads for building a sandbar with some river clamshells to replicate a spot on the river that runs past the ranch where I grew up and where the layout currently resides.

Ulrich - is there anyway we can help you ?

Not really. It is as it is, there will be good days and there will be bad days. Right now there are bad days, but a bad day is better than no day at all.

I am happy to oblige, but have to leave out the knee bending part. It won´t work these days.

Mr. B - I am in your camp on this one. While it would be nice if there were trains running on these rails, they aren't and won't be in the future. They can either rust away, or be "re-purposed." (Personally, I hate that word, but I couldn't think of a better one at the moment.) If anyone is interested, there is a non-profit dedicated to finding new life for abandoned lines -- Rails-to-Trails.

YGW - It sounds like your mother is as tough as your father. Apparently you came from good stock. As for the skirting, I have found an outfit that makes custom skirting--Premier Table Linens. The skirts come with a two-inch band of Velcro along the top. I have ordered their fabric sample board to decide on a color.

I have run into a bit of a problem in the workshop. I have a small, inexpensive Sears tablesaw that has served me well. I decided to put locking wheels on it so I could move it out of the way when it wasn't needed. (I did this to my compound miter saw and it worked great.) The problem with the tablesaw is the rubber/plastic feet on the bottoms of the legs are not strong enough to handle the torque from the wheels. I have reinforced them with fender washers on the bottom, but the sections on the side are not long enough/strong enough to handle the weight. The final thing to try will be to epoxy the feet to the legs, then reattach the wheels. Hope it works.

 Mr. Beasley, well said!

PM Railfan
Wouldnt it be nice to head down to the tracks and catch one of those famed NKP 'Million Dollar' freights thunder by at about 75mph? But no, instead all we get is some coupon cutting, Oprah loving, tree hugger on a tricycle! Who the heck ordered that???

I have been on a few of the local trails here, and can say emphatically I have never seen any tree huggers on tricycles on them.  And be careful who you might be insulting as well as I am a very active, strong environmentalist!!!  Smile, Wink & Grin

Actually very good use of the old ROW.  They still a useful purpose even if we would rather see trains running on them.....

Afternoon all.

Flo, RBF for me, and anyone else who is I lined to having one please. Of course, on my tab. Thanks.

Weather: Hot and humid.

W**k: Been annoying, aggravating even.... Not enough help, grumpy customers, and grouchy managers. Enough said on that!

Hobby: Got to Railfan yesterday for a while, but nothing done layout wise.

Hope all enjoy the day, and that we sell out on those RBF's tonight!

Hi, all. Very hot/humid here and supposed to be worse tomorrow.

Got the footings poured on the second house this morning. Will start setting foundation forms tomorrow.

Worked on that batch of trees, till I ran out of ground foam.Planted 90 of them, still about 60-70 that are ready to plant. Here's a before shot of one area I worked on. From the tracks to the pines is about 8-10" deep and around 18-20" long:

 [/URL

And after:

[URL=http://s265.photobucket.com/user/saronaterry/media/denby/008_zpsdorscvj9.jpg.html]

There are over 50 trees in that small area. They are not museum quality, but I'd be in the poorhouse if I bought RTR trees!Smile, Wink & Grin They are fast to make , though.

Talk atcha all later!

I won't even pretend to catch up folks so I apologize now Surprise

Our entire division at the refinery went down last Sunday morning.  Worked 84 hrs last week and earned every dollar.  Just beat down and tired.

I hit the big 4-0 this month on the 25th.  Another stupid number, I plan to carry on and act 16 until I'm buried 6 foot under!

Disappointed, no Big Blow for the birthday, but should be extreme end of Aug, early Sept. , I want to see that bad boy run.

Accomplished about nothing last 2 days just relaxing, I did manage to spray outside the house for insects/etc and took the boys swimming at my parents today.

Good Evening,

Just got back from a very nice dinner out at the Resto Gare. I had Arctic Char and my wife Steak et Frites. We weren't celebrating anything, just spending a small win on a lotto ticket. It was in a railway theme too as the restaurant is in an old small former CP station on the line down to Minneapolis.

I have been working on my Bachmann Light Mountain as the headlight quit and it developed pickup issures. I bent the wipers a little, re-soldered some tender connections plus changed the decoder. The headlight now works and pickup is better but not what it was so I ordered a new set of wipers from Bachmann. I was surprised they still had them as I've had the loco for 10 years and it was out of production when I bought it. I think going round and round on my 22 inch radius curves seems to have taken the spring out of the wipers.

Terry, I really like the photos of your layout. The trees look really great, heck your whole layout looks great.

Think we will watch a Graham Norton show we recorded.  A little light entertainment is all I want right now.  The news channels are too scary.

Hello Railfans!

fec153

PM- Did the short film get to you re- the 765 ??

Phil - is this for me? If so, no, I didnt get anything. Even if it isnt for me, heck, I will take a video of 765 anyday!

Terry - Along with the other scenery photos Ive seen this past week or so, yours is also a treat to see. Very nice work. Im envious of you guys who are at this stage. Nice detail on the trunks!

YGW -

Put a steam engine and rods on a schwinn ....

I know where the rods go, and the bell and headlight.... but boiler on a schwinn? Hmmmm, I can see a saddletanker in this deal!

Ofcourse, thoughts of, and best wishes for, you dad!

Speaking of Galaxy, aint seen him in a spell... bad news there? The place kinda aint the same without a daily quote, or something of the like.

....about the only color I don't have on my layout is purple.

Youd need a piece of ACL rolling stock to get that color. Im real curious as to how your gonna fit that into a post BN merger scheme of things Laugh.

Flo - pour a Beer for Ken, im sure he will be here shortly. Its on me.

Catch you folks later. Im sure tomarow wont be a suprise day off.

 Evening Dinners

Flo, why is there a Bicycle pump stuck in The Buick Guy Caboose? OK, I readed the posting, guess he will have his Beer standing up! Laugh Ed and I will have a Beer in the booth next to the RC counter, sitting down.

Health Front Just when one round thing on my left side is starting to get normal again another one starts acting up. My left eye is some what red, has a liquid seeping out and I feel like caboose again tonight.

What really ticks me off is I am taking my first 3 days off with out a medical treatment need in 3 years! Now it looks like I may not be feeling well for the 3 days. Figuers! Bang Head Again I did not feel like getting the PK 2000 B&O GP 7 on the rails. Well I waited 4 months, what a few more days.?

Terry Good looking tress. Are they Super Trees or weeds you are using?

Douglas Yes, I rather see Nickel Plated Steam running the rails. But if there is no trains, I rather have the bike path. Rails with out trains are just speed bumps.

YGW Far as the Aug Christmas I can thank Jolly Old Saint Ed for that! If you go back to his round house phot, some of that pulling power will be helping to drag some B&O freight at my round house on a long term lease. Big Smile Could the rephap center rule out another heart attack? If not get dads butt in gear and get it checked! Best wishes for his recovery. Angel

Ed I sure hope you post more phots of your layout! There are many fine layouts here at the dinner and yours seem on par with them from the photos you posted so far. Seems you posted photos of all the B&O engines I would like to have. Looks like # 743 is a GP 7 and the colors match my #3406. I think it is a E-6 in the first photo looks like a used PK 2000 E-6 B&O my LHS happens to have.

Funny you happen to post photos of the Shark Nose! My GM is a train guy and he sent me a B&O calender and for all of july I was looking at a B&O Shark Nose. Saw a refurbised one BLI, all most pulled the tigger, but waited. Next day it was gone. All the engines looked great anyway you look at it.

Hope your son's weddiing go great and he has found the love of his life! Yes

 Later, Ken

That's actually not the first time someone has suggested that. (At a convention I attended last summer when I mentioned the pink engine. Just as an aside, it is one of my GP20s. A tribute engine to my maternal grandparents. My grandmother's favorite color was pink. It also has a green top as a tribute to my late grandfather. The green is the same green as is in my avatar.)

This is an answer that I got from a post that I asked about that very subject: Conrail inherited the old NYC-CB&Q run through agreement for freight trains between Chicago and Mpls-St.Paul (which I believe is still operated by NS and BNSF).

From my research the only ACL equipment I found that was purple were their engines. I haven't come up with a way to work an ACL engine into my planned running patterns.

Top 'O the morning everybody!

Busy day today so I can only stay for a quick bite, Fried mush with sausage gravy and a free-range egg, over easy, on top of the whole mess and some Roundhouse black coffee to wash it all down! Thanks Flo, I know you'll get the order perfect.

YGW, A friend who had been to New Orleans told me about beignets she had at Café Du Monde. She brought back a mix and I made some at home Big Smile They're puffs of sweet fried dough tossed with powdered sugar. Pretty addictive and really tasty with strong coffee!

http://www.cafedumonde.com/beignets

Your dad and Ulrich are both in my thoughts and prayers along with any others who may also be on the mend or in need.

Douglas, "All the trains would be the same color"? You mean like Amtrak? You're right, what a bore! I still enjoy watching and modeling Amtrak BUT it sure was a lot more fun when the passenger trains had some variety!

We can wish and hope all we want but we will never see the network of rail lines the U.S. once had. In the case of the B&O branch in my neck 'o the woods, the original deeds were written such that if the railroad ever ceased to operate the land reverted back to the original owner. The county auditor had his hands full digging through hundreds of 1880 deeds to try to sort that mess out. Lawyers did OK though.

Just like the roundhouses and other facilities, both liability and TAX burdens caused the RRs to yank the track out (price of scrap steel, too). I have some photos of the last two B&O engines in Chardon. They were assigned to the "rip-out" train!

I'm pretty sure this was July of 1982, Chardon, Ohio, looking north (railroad west). I have ridden my bike on the trail and there were a few spots where the telegraph poles were standing. Yes, a sad reality but at least the Rails-To-Trails allows us to see where these routes once were. For instance, much of the Erie line from Cleveland to Youngstown is so overgrown and "repurposed" you have no idea there was ever a track there.

Ken! I think my best bet is to send two smaller packages Gift Gift instead of trying to get everything in one larger box, probably better protection that way, too. Don't drool over that roundhouse scene too long! Like I said, there might be a hint there Whistling

The blue "dip paint" F7 and its B unit that's not in the photo just came from MB Klein and I just finished up a Loksound decoder install in them. I'll post the occasional layout photo but I don't want to hog anyone else's glory or take up too much space Embarrassed. You can see a few pics over at the Show Me Something thread, my second favorite hangout Yes at the forum.

Thanks for the happy wishes for the lucky couple. I think they will do just fine.

Get some rest and take care of yourself, Ken... and everyone else, too!

Regards, Ed

It's so humid today my glasses immediately fogged up when I opened the front door.

We have nice rails to trails in central Maryland.  Most of the recumbent bikes I see are trikes.  I was looking for a picture from the Baltimore and Annapolis of the time the steam engine missed a signal and went into the open swing bridge and landed on a schooner.  Can't find that picture anywhere on line so I will leave you with a family story.

My mother worked in Baltimore but she came to Annapolis by train to go to Naval Academy dances, staying in some sort of boarding house.  Her roommate married a midshipman, Ross Perot, and that's the closest I ever go to being filthy rich.

This is the bridge, the Naval Academy is above the loco.

It's raining.  Yay!  We have been under the tightest water restrictions I've ever seen here.  Every lawn is brown, mine included.  Just the sound of the rain is refreshing.

It took me a while to get into the hockey game mentally last night.  I think it's the heat.  Hot weather drags me down physically as well.  I'll be glad when it cools off again and I don't have to hide in the air conditioner all day and night.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a bowl of organic raison bran cereal with a handfull of fresh blueberries on top.  Oh, yes, a pot of Marrakesh Express Dark Roast Coffee would go nicely too.

Mr. B, we had some thunderboomers over night that produced "measurable rain"....  Not much, but better than nothing...  I slept through it all, but Manét came in and cuddled with me during the whole thing.

Had fun with the Granddaughters yesterday.  They are now old enough to apprieciate what I do with the Model Railroad.  They busily explored the whole thing and found some of the "hidden" scenes I have put in it.  They also noticed some of the buildings with family names on them, which I thought was great!  They helped me clean off the deck and move some things.  At 7 and 9 they are getting to be good helpers and sweet young ladies!

Today I have a dentist appt. for my semi-annual teeth cleaning and check up.  Oh joy, oh rapture....

Somebody mentioned the "Quotes"...  Here is one from me!

Howdy all

Lunch time. Sad lunch today. MOH had the grave yard shift with my father last night. So I had to find whatever scraps of cardboard and put some ketchup on it for lunch. One bit of positive news is that my father is finally starting to get hungry and actually request food. I had to laugh at him the other day. They brought in this "swill for food" and he took one look at it and said "you expect me to eat this ? " I laughed under my breath because when they brought it in I thought to myself theat finely ground whatever it was makes me sick just looking at it ! Dead I am gonna sneak in some chicken broth or tomato soup or something that at least is eatable !

Howmus - 7 & 9 is a wonderful age. You are lucky to have them in your life and them in yours Thumbs Up I wish my grandpaents were still alive. I loved them so MUCH.

Mr. B. - I saw in california many years ago when they had a drought the lawn companies switched to painting the yards green !

Henry - It ran into a schooner ! ? WOW I would love to see a photo of that if you ever find one

Garry - Thanks

Ed - Fried mush ? Sounds like a description of what they are feeding my dad. That taste good ? Sound awful. What is it ? OH Fritters ! I see they come fruit filled ! DinnerBig Smile You know I think they should return the land to the orginial owners since in most cases the land was gotten from owners on the cheap or nothing at all. Boy I bet that would be a legal mess all those years later !

FRRYKid - I laughed out loud ! Sandel tanks on a Schwinn I can see it now ! I think the pink and green locomotive tribute is nice. Thumbs Up

Ken - You had me rolling on the floor "Jolly Saint Ed" ! LOL. No the rehab doesnt have anything like that. He just will not go ! Very frustrating ! He blacked out once while driving and he pulled over before he blinked out. When he came to he drove home and went back to his normal life verses going to the doctor ! Bang HeadBang HeadBang Head I love him so much ! BUT SOME TIMES he drives me crazy when he pulls stunts like that ! By the way havent heard an update on your daughter. How is she doing ? Hope you feel better. Better get that eye checked out. Sound awful.

V8 - Morning. Did you read my question from earlier ?

CN Charlie - Any MRR running around inside of the resturant ?

Jeremy C. Happy Birthday Cake sorry we missed it ! Man that is a lot of hours ! Glad you are getting rest !

Terry - Nice layout and the room looks good too. Did you finish the room yourself ? You have these three trees in the forground what how are they made ? Never seen that before.

Phil - Yes I did ! That was a crazy picture. Sometimes I wonder about those chinese. That was a pretty stupid mistake. I wonder how many people got killed in that ? No rebar, cut out the bearing of the building and then piling a mtn of soil on the opposite side. That was dumb ! Phew I am glad that wasnt me !

Ricky W- That makes for a long day when you have to deal with grumpy customers.

Richard - How did you think to look for a company who does just that ? I didnt have a clue there are comanies who just do that !

Ulrich - You have me worried ? Havent seen you in here today. Will be lighting a candle for you. Hope you are okay.

Howdy to all the rest- Jeremy, Lion, JaBear, Dennis....

Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't see how I would properly put an auto parts car in my trains in Eastern Montana. Additionally, given the trackage I have, I don't think that long of a car would track properly. (18"R in one mainline tunnel.)

FRRy - Think Auto-Train, second hand Dome cars!

Its got purple in it, and those cars left along time ago. Auto-Train service that is. Isnt Montana 'big sky country'? What better way to see it than in a Dome car. Though they are rather long and tall cars.

Richard - That is funny ! "I justed decided my new birth year is 38 BG"

Angel - I know of two or three who that happened to, the doctors told my dad if you do not get up your blood actual does not pump as well and therefor stuff "settles" and bad stuff follows ( at least that is my translation of his doc terms.

Like an old steam engine once it stops it rust ups and disintergrates. Keep the fire going, wheels moving, greased and she will last a lot longer if you keep it serviced.

Afternoon folks,

Chloe, a nice tall glass of lemonade would suit me well at the moment!

Sunny with a few clouds now and then outside right now.  Should be another fairly good day for making electricity...  It is hot out there....  (How hot is it?)  It is so hot and dry that I just saw a pair of trees fighting over a dog....  The weather guessers are promising a couple three days of thunderboomers coming up.  Friday, Saturday, and Sunday are supposed to be blessed with storms...  We sure do need it!

I saw another yellowjacket going in the wall of the house on the deck.  Have already emptied a can and a half of the Pyrethryn Wasp Spray into where they are entering.  Killed about 20 or so wasps, but the main nest must be too far in the wall to be completely effective.  Since I will have 20 or so people sitting on and near the deck later this month, I gave up and called the exterminator.  He will be here tomorrow morning.  Likely will treat with a powder (Sevin???) that they will track back into the nest...  That should take care of them.

Dentist appt.:  Had mostly fruit for lunch.  That consisted of a banana, some strawberries, and a bottle of CherryBundy Lite.  Decided to finish up with a Werthers Original candy for desert.  Chew, chew, crunch...... Crown came out of place mixed with the chunck of candy....  Took it with me when I went over for teeth cleaning...  The Doc put it back in for me.  No charge.

Back to cleaning up the place....
