If she would have gotton off her dead butt and worked like I wanted her too now that she is 65 she could have gotton Social Securety.

You do know if you are retired she can draw off your SS don't you. It's not a full SS but it can be up to 50% of what your drawing. the only thing is you need to be receiving yours first. ( I think once you apply she can apply against yours ) Theres no retro to it but you could do that starting from when she applies seeing you have already.

Good morning, everybody .

Ulrich .... Your layout looks fantastic. The bus you will receive sounds interesting.

Below are progress photos of my current scenery project. ... I am trying out a fast and easy method for rock strata with foam insulation. My previous rock strata are made from broken plaster which looks good but take a lot of time.

The first photo shows the insulation pieces stacked and held together with construction adehesive. I have worked some drywall mud into crevices. Later I shape the surfaces with mostly horizontal strokes with knives and wire brushes.

The second photo shows some painting progress with lighter colors. First, I painted it with flat white latex paint.  Then I applied watered down acrylic paint. I do one layer at a time with thin washes, and I wait for each color to dry before applying the next one.

The last photo shows the darker colors were added. Again, it is thin washes one color at a time and waiting for each to dry before applying the next color.

Next, I will be adding vegatation such as trees, shrubs, and weeds.

I don’t care what you say Ulrich but your layouts are definite proof that good things come in small parcels, quite inspiring.

Thanks for the kudos, JaBear. While photographs often reveal what one intends to hide, they can be also merciful by allowing to crop things "out of the way". All I can say about mine is that they are not the result of any photoshopping... Smile, Wink & Grin I wouldn´t know how to handle that! I tried GIMP once, but was lost soon.

I take a certain pride in having turned the "ugly" part of the layout into something quite easy on the eye.

Talking about good things in small parcels, why do girls know that wisdom from the age of three on and men hardly ever learn it?

Lunchtime!

We won´t be having anything fancy, just the typical end of the month food, when the wallet is empty and so is the refrigerator. Well, when one has little, one gets used to having a lot of month left at the end of the money!

The sun was out this morning so I was able to shoot some pictures of yesterday´s w*rk on the layout:

The yellow bus in the above picture will eventually be replaced by a nicer one, more detailed and more prototypical one. The Swiss Postal Service PTT never owned a Daimler-Benz bus like this one, but favored a Swiss brand called Saurer. A little birdie has told me that there might be one in the mail for me as a birthday present....

Looks a lot nicer and I am eager to see it!

Petra is calling for lunch - CUL, folks!

Off to bed to get non-sleep. Anyone got any infant-sized corks? Or quality earplugs?

Infant-sized corks?  Maybe you have a baby that needs fed?  Or is this Canadian-American english barrier?  The beauty of breast feeding is that men don't have milk.

Babies are in my past but I have been up since 1 am.  My neck is sending a burning zinger to the middle of my shoulder.  I may have to steal some steroids from my beagle.  Yes you read that right, his pill box is bigger than mine.

Evenping, folks!

Great train day. Got three more strips installed on the elevator lead. Closer and closer. Met a great fella named Abe and got an invite to join a local n-scale club. Sounds like a blast! Top it all off with a bowl of popcorn while people in the forum yell at each other about Bluetooth, laugh riot!

 Afternoon Dinners

 Flo, Beer please.

What a day, what a day.

Yard Wars Got a late start, Sue was out doing some running. So I spent a hour laying in bed loving on Sparkie the Rocket Dog. Got another section of old fence cut down, only have 6 feet to go! Yes Hard part was cutting out the last small tree. It was much larger that I thought. While cutting it down was not that bad. Dragging it out on the other hand was harder. It was a twisted into a odd shape. I had to cut off sections of it to drag out to the front. Need to trim off some of the braches so they could get it in the chipper. While I was doing it, my battery died in the Black & Decker Alligator. Back up battery was in the drill and it was all most dead as well. Whistling So I was done for the day.

Wife Front Bang Head I swear I wish she find a boy friend and leave me! Seems like nothing I do can please her, over re-acts to everything, everything is the worst, finds new things to worry about (her hobby), everything is to hard for her to do and compains that we don't have nice things! Angry If she would have gotton off her dead butt and worked like I wanted her too now that she is 65 she could have gotton Social Securety.

But Noooo, that would be to hard! She is 65 and only made $13,000 for her whole life? When I was in my prime and clearing $3500 a month 25 years ago we did well. Well that was then and this is now and I am hanging on by my finger nails.

What set this SoapBox off is I bought frozen onion rings, mirco-wave able burrsel spouts and pre-made Garlic Toast. She complained that she had to stick the toast in the oven, nuke the burrsel spouts and bake the onion rings! Bang Head

Well I done with the SoapBox Flo and BBQ is done.

 Later Ken

My install of a PSX circuit breaker failed.  Working, looking up, is not my strong suit and there was a loose wire somewhere.  I could not find it, disassmbled everythng and put it on the bench, where it all worked normally.  Reinstalled it and it works. (NCE powercab BTW)

I wondered about the significance of the name Statler and Waldorf Photo of the day.  Muppets?   Darryl Wallace got fine $15 grand for calling Nascar officials muppets.  As a kid, Jim Henson, did commercials for Chock Full of Nuts coffee on a local TV station with Kermit.  That was his start.

Hey Tom!

Here was the falls the first week of August 2008 at Sci-Tec Camp out at our Boy Scout Camp....  Even this photo doesn't do it justice.  Remember, Taughannock Falls is taller than Niagara Falls!  (BTW, there is a couple great science museums in and around Ithaca, NY.  Well worth taking a day and visiting them, and have lunch at the falls!)

That would be normal this time of year.  This year, just a little dribble.  Crops are really suffering aroiund here.  My garden has to get wattered every evening.  Can't wait to get the water bill....

Ray - I'm surprised that the "Falls" have dried up. How disappointing it must be for those who walk up the trail to view what I think is a fascinating & beautiful wonder of nature. As you might be able to tell, I love that place. We have walked the trail a couple of times, but I'm afraid those days are over. It would be kind of hard for the wife now. The video you linked & the photos I have don't really do justice to the size or height.

There are some people at the bottom of this photo going up the trail.

This photo was taken from an observation deck on that upper raod across the gorge.

Afternoon folks!

Chloe, a tall glass of lemonade would suit me fine right about now....

Another sunny day here in the Finger Lakes!  We need rain badly though.  The latest news on the drought here is that Taughannock Falls near Ithaca, NY has dried up.  It normally runs lots and lots of water all year round down the gorge and into Cayuga Lake.  Right now it is just a trickle they say.  https://weather.com/science/nature/video/before-after-of-taughannock-falls-in-western-new-york, http://www.democratandchronicle.com/story/sports/columnist/2016/07/25/new-yorks-taughannock-falls-looks-like-trickle-during-drought/87385072/

Been spending some time down in the train room working on some scenery and running some ideas through my head for a cattle grazing pasture up un the hiltop with the farm off the layout......  Got to take some measurements and stuff to see what might work.

Catch you all later!

I tried watching The Averagers on blu ray. I just bored after a few minutes after in started and myself at the hour mark and decided to quit. I guess I'm not in the mood. Not even the hulk and iron man fight got me excited.

LOL @ "The Averagers"! With that name I guess they're the more everyday kind of heroes rather than superheroes. Come to think of it, that's the team Hawkeye belongs on. Archery is not a superpower!

This place is rather quiet today - only 4 posts so far!

Well, I am getting ready for the hay. I dis some more w*rk on the layout, planting the Faller trees, transplanting the others, retouching some of the trees which have lost some of the ground cover I had sprinkled on and, last but not least, that ghastly plastic green of the silos has turned into a dull grey. Some weathering and those silos will look OK! Pictures will come tomorrow!

Today´s job has transformed the layout a lot - fortunately in the direction I had planned. Starting to look OK, but still lot´s of areas to w*rk on!

Got to go now - CU tomorrow!

Thanks all for the prayers. We believe he will be in the hospital and rehab about six to eight weeks. Finally last night he got about six hours total sleep. He still hasnt had any food or water since last Friday. He is only being given small sponges with water soaked in them and occasionaly small ice chips. Not sure but we may have started to turn the corner for the better. Never know it such a roller coaster ride, up and down, one minute it looks good and then in seconds everything goes south. Yes it is amazing that he survived the accident. We do not know much about who hit him, but the driver did stop. All of our attention has been on getting my father the help he needs to survive.

Will check back in later.

Cats Think Well .... The joys of model railroading.  .... I hate it when things go wrong such as paint going bad. Glad you are not giving up on the models.

Good Afternoon!

I got a package in today´s mail containing a box of those bottle brush Faller trees I need to rework the scene next to the guard´s house. I am not happy with the looks of the other trees there so I decided to go for the same generic fir tree that I have planted nearly everywhere on the layout. Of course, they need to be reworked. In order to avoid getting that certain look from SWMBO, I went outside to spray paint them with the dark olive paint I used for the other trees. I also sprinkled WS groundcover over them to improve the looks. Now they rest in our staircase. They should be safe there, we are the only ones on this floor. I took one of them into our apartment - enough to leave that strong smell of Tamiya paint ...

15 trees for about $ 8 is quite OK, I think.

The other trees will be transplanted to another location on the layout!

Zoe, coffee and a slice of that cherry crumble pie, please!

Let's go for bacon, cheesy scrambled eggs, and blueberry baked oatmeal this morning. With a large cup of coffee. Med. Roast, with hazelnut creamer.

Best wishes for your dad's recovery YGW. I'm glad he survived.

Today, I have much planned: Try and get my self organized to go back to college this fall. Depending on the time today, I'll take my youngest sister swimming too.

As it's summer, I'm going through MR projects at a much slower pace compared to the colder months. I did get a pair of Red Caboose REA X29s built up recently. Going to buy a kitchen scale and get them weighted properly. I had two built that only needed a gloss coat before decaling. I used a can of clear gloss in a spray can as it worked well on two models I'd painted before. Instead, the clear coat ended up looking terrible, so I've since then, carefully stripped the paint, and will try again. I'll need to replace detail parts I'd broken off as well.

Evening Diners,

YGW- Sorry about your dad getting hit by a car getting the mail. I'm surprised he survived. Best wishes for recovery.

This and the other reason of kidnapping while getting the mail. I run out of the house and back in under 20 seconds so that doesn't happen.

 Evening Dinners

Flo, Barry Buger with fries and a Beer.

YGW Boy, your dad is luckie. 55 MPH sure is not slow. Hope they caught the driver. Hope for a quick recovery as well. Angel Far as the cars take as long as needed.

Gary I think the Chapel Car is going to need new wheels the way things are going around this joint.

Rick I know how you feel, I am making about 1/2 in extra money this year vers last year.

Ulrich Congrats on 32 years, well I hope it should be congrats. Still sort of understand why you don't keep the current layout. You rather dream and build than watch the train go a round and a round. But, it does look good!

I am beat, so later folks.

Good Evening,

A beautiful day here with temps at about 80F and sunny. Nice change from all the rain.

Chris, nice GMD-1!  CN still uses them here and I used to see one every week doing some shunting on my way home from work. I retired 2 years ago so haven't seen one since then. The one I used to see was built in 1958!

Ulrich, congrats on 32 years.

Jim,  hope you are having a nice time in Sask. I looked up the lake you are at but the closest I came to it was Nipawin. I used to work for Macleods stores which later became True Value. Thirty years ago there was a Macleods store in virtually every town in Sask. but over time they just closed up as the towns shrank. I have visited many of them at one time in my 40 years with the company. If you get to Prince Albert there is a large roundhouse still standing.

After a lot of thought I decided against buying that Hudson. Instead I opted to upgrade  the sound decoder in my Light Mountain. It now has an old MRC decoder that has poor motor control and just so-so sound so I decided to replace it with a new Econami decoder. I also ordered a couple of BLI express reefers that were on sale for a great price. I will now have 5 so I can make up a nice train.

Well, time for a little TV, so see you soon.
