Janie, who is that snoring in the back? Oh Ulrich is still here. Place looks to empty here tonight except for Ulrich and I... How about a nice hot cup of decaf?
Twas a hot one today here in the Finger Lakes. High was 83°F, tomorrow and Thursday they are predicing 86°, Friday 89°, and Saturday 91°! Guess we went directly from early Spring to mid summer..... I got some Green Peppers and some Broccoli planted. The place was already out of Califlower. I will see what I can find tomorrow in the area... Rototilled the last of the raised beds this evening. Would be nice to have everything planted by tomorrow late afternoon. I think I have District Committee for Scouts tomorrow evening.........

A slow day, but aren´t all my days slow, lately? No news from the eastern front, still in the dumps. Would someone please provide a ladder for me to climb out of this mess?
Richard - your not the only one being a little slow to grasp thze meaning of Mr. B.´s statement - I had to read it a couple of times. But then, I am just a foreigner with a limited knowledge of the language
I´ll be staying at the RC for a moment before heading for the hay ...

You've got to be careful when buying lawn mower oil. Some hardware stores are still selling Windows XP oil, which used to be fine but if your computer is running Windows 10, wifi problems will be almost inevitable with XP oil.
Ken, I'd also recommend getting a 2-gallon tank sprayer. 22 dollars at Lowes. It's easy to use, low pressure and you can adjust the spray easily. The ones that go on the end of the hose will not give you good control, and you don't want to accidentally spray Round-Up anywhere but on its target. You can also spray anywhere without having to drag a hose around.
I suppose I should go set up the new printer. The wife is back from Ireland and once again assuming I'm her personal servant.
cudaken Yard Wars Need so advice here, the ingound pool has a gravel surounding it. Well it has weeds and stuff going in it and I want to kill it all! While the Round Up Posion Ivy killer works great, my pump action sparyer covers a very small area and would take for ever to cover the 500 sq feet. Any Ideas? I would like to get it from Lowes or Home Depot.

Ken, they make a weed killer concentrate that comes in a sprayer you attach to your garden hose, so you can spray large areas at once. The only drawback is it's made to kill weeds in lawns, so it doesn't kill grass. But it should kill most other stuff. Then when only grass is left, you can hit that with the Roundup or Spectracide.

Good late evening. Finally had a sunny day today. Mowed the yard this afternoon. Hope to get more yard work done tomorrow as it is supposed to be sunny and warm tomorrow, also. Friend came by this morning and picked up her dining room chair I had repaired. Three of four dowel pins and broken in half where the side rails met the back legs. Drilled out the broken dowels using a battery powered drill and an engineers square to help guide my drilling. Would have been a lot easier with a drill press but since I dont own one or have room for one I made do with my hand tools and a good set of pipe clamps. She was most appreciative of the repair as she had been unsuccessful in finding anyone around town willing to do this type repair work. She has several more chairs to fix. So I guess I will stay busy fixing furniture for the next couple of weeks. Should pick up enough money to pay for NMRA convention registration.
Garry, sincere condolences to you and your family for the passing of your mother. 96 years is a wonderful accomplishment for any of us.
YGW, my Arlington daughter posted a picture of the sun this afternoon so maybe some of your mud is drying up.
Ken, do you have a two gallon tank sprayer? It should do a fairly quick job of spraying Roundup around the pool. I am planning on spraying most of my backyard tomorrow with a small tank sprayer as the violets and swedish ivy are taking over the grass once again.
Uhlrich, good to see you back and posting again.
Time for some z's.

Good Evening Diners,
Brunhilda, I'll have a glass of your finest Pinot Noir, please. Oh! Well then, I'll have a glass of what's in the red box, please.
Today was beautiful here, nice and warm. May have gotten to the low 80s. Don't know for sure.
YGW: Yes, I'm a big fan of Bauhaus. Evidenced by mentioning Mies Van Der Rohe in my quotes box. However, I must confess I like a lot of architectural styles. I too, like the Williamsburg style architecture. The symmetry of colonial architecture is very appealing.
Ulrich: Glad to see you're at least semi- OK.
Garry: My condolences for your family's loss.
i was able to get my train rolling stock including the N scale stuff. Don't know exactly when I'll get to start on that layout, though.
Hello to everyone and I hope everyone is OK and safe.

Got one side of the boards painted before work! I will say the $19.99 air less sparyer I bought from Harbour Freight did a fine job! If you need to paint something it is money well spent! Wished I could have stayed at home, I was feeling good and felt like working. To bad I went to work, no one bought a thing and they where looking for stupid stuff we did not have.
yougottawantaHey ! Very busy today.
YGW I could tell, sorry I called when you where trying to get the heck out of Dodge. Thanks for the advices as well, I would more than likely blew off the Rental Insurances.
Ulrich Glad to see you back on the site! Soory to hear about the problems at home. Lask of money add's strees to the realation ship.

Evenin' folks!
Wow! Been 7 hours since anyone posted here in the Diner..... I guess the evening crew should be stopping by pretty soon. Janie, just a refill for my decaf please.
I actually had to turn on the air conditioner today. High was 78°F and bright sun most all day. Tomorrow is supposed to get up to 80° so I shall likely have to switch to Air Conditioner again. Will turn the heat back on before I go to bed tonight since the low will be in the high 40's.... So far this season this is only the second time I have turned on the Air Conditioner. The Air only kicked on a few times.
Got the raised beds finished, filled them with Moo Dirt ® and just got back inside from planting my pole beans. Also rototilled two of the three wooden raised beds with my little electric tiller and added some Moo Dirt to them. Hopefully I will get time to buy my peppers, brocolli, and califlower plants and by this time tomorrow they should all be planted. Only other thing I have to do tomorrow is go to the dentist to have a crown removed and a cavity under it filled... That way I get to pay for a brand new crown.... Ain't I lucky!
About the time I got the concrete blocks set in place, it was lunch time. Came in and found a message from my son saying he really needed my help and to call him back ASAP! So I had a quick lunch and then called him back (usually his messages like that means he needs help sometime in the next couple of days). Turns out he was out on Seneca Lake in his boat for the first time this season (has to make sure it is working well since next weekend is the Annual Lake Trout Derby here in Geneva. It will bring people from around the country and world to fish Seneca Lake to compete for some good prize money). Anyway he needs help getting the boat back on the trailer and out of the water. He got the trailer with the boat down the ramp at the park in Geneva and found out the Parking Brake doesn't work! Luckily he had just bought a wheel stop which he was able to put under one of the back wheels so he could get the boat in the water, but didn't trust the safety of everything to winch the boat out and onto the trailer. I don't think SWMBO would be pleased if he was to roll the car all the way down the ramp and into the water...... I drove the car with the trailer for him and just held the brakes while he winched the boat onto the trailer.
I am also researching what the old style iron bands looked like and how they connected on the late 1800's Water Tanks for RRs. I am doing a kitbash for one on the new area on the layout. There was one over in a place called The Hamlet of Orleans not far from here. The origonal RR there was the Sodus Bay and Southern. It was absorbed/leased/taken over by the Northern Central before the Water Tower was built so it was likely an old style PRR design. I have found one photo online and it definately has the iron bands, not the later steel rods around the tank. I am trying to find a closeup of the dohicky that tighens the bands on the tank. This will be a "personalized" rendition of a craftsman kit I have had sitting on the shelf for several years... The new one there is still in service. It is the water supply for the fire dept. in case of a call. It was the town water supply until recently when the health dept. found the supply did not meet standards (contaminated) for drinking water. It is in excellent condition and is a nice tourist thing for the community. There used to be a 5 star restaurant across the street from the water tower. It originally served, ah..., lunch (and some other stuff) to train crews while the locos were serviced.
Researching the water tower led me to an article in my local paper a couple years back about the last major train accident in this area. They mention the restaurant in the article. Happened just a few miles down the rail from Orleans, NY. A friend and I (We were seniors in High School) found out about soon after it happened and drove over to "Get in the way" for a few hours. I remember seeing the locomotive in the photo then. I believe that one still sits at the bottom of Flint Creek.... http://www.fltimes.com/lifestyle/rail-tragedy-revisited-years-ago-two-trains-hit-head-on/article_0759af8c-cbdf-11e3-9b02-0019bb2963f4.html
Have a great evening!
We are enjoying a slight respite in the heat here in the Valley of the Sun. Today's high is only supposed to be 91F. Given that it is very dry, the relative humidity is in the low teens, 91 is actually quite comfortable. This morning it was a balmy 65 when I went out for my morning ride.
For all those dealing with the loss of a loved one, here is my a favorite poem of mine by Henry Van Dike (I had to misspell his last name, substituting an "i" for the "y". Apparently the forum software finds the other spelling objectionable.)--
I am standing upon the seashore. A ship, at my side,
spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts
for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength.
I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck
of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.
Then, someone at my side says, "There, she is gone."
Gone where?
Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast,
hull and spar as she was when she left my side.
And, she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.
Her diminished size is in me -- not in her.
And, just at the moment when someone says, "There, she is gone,"
there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices
ready to take up the glad shout, "Here she comes!"
Hello all
Ulrich SO GLAD you are back. Been very concerned for you
V8 Hope you feel better today. FYI a web news site today carried an article about the fuel tanks traveling through your area.
Everyone els - Hey ! Very busy today. Inspections ( 3x ), a walk through, no show electricians, VP stopping by .....Gotta run
Garry and Family,
I was saddened to read this about your Mother this morning, but that is a wonderful stretch of time to be here on earth. My Mother and her Mother made it to 94 and my other Grandmother made it to 99.
The men however were not so lucky, my Grandfathers went at 48 and 52 and my Dad went at 72. So far I am ahead of the men.
May you and your Family have peace in your soul and lasting fond memories in your hearts till you meet again.
Our sincere condolenses.
Johnboy.
Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, I'll have a bowl of Vanilla Almond Granola with a handfull of fresh blueberries on it and a pot of Marraqkesh express Dark Raost Coffe for my R&GV RR Mug please.
Ulrich, good to see you back. My prayers for you to find a better life continue.
They say Life is a gamble... so some good quotes about gambling for today:
"Gambling: The sure way of getting nothing from something." - Wilson Mizner
"No horse can go as fast as the money you put on it." - Earl Wilson
"Horse sense is good judgement that keeps horses from betting on people." - W. C. Fields
"I don't get no respect. I joined Gambler's Anonymous. They gave me two to one odds I don't make it." - Rodney Dangerfield
I already drove over to Phelps Cement this morning and bought 3 concrete blocks to finish the raised beds by the shed. Later today I shall go over to the Menonite Landscaping place nearby and buy a few bags of Moo Dirt ® to add to the beds and the old ones as well. Then i hope to get the seeds planted by the end of the day. Time will tell.
Better sign off as Blackie is reminding me I haven't fed them yet today!
Later!
Garry I am so sorry for you the loss of your mother must be hard for you. May she rest in peace.
Good Morning,
Garry, sorry to hear about the loss of your Mother.
Yard work is in full swing here and we have started to do some of the planting. We had a nice rain last night which we really needed.
Have a good day,
CN Charlie
Good to see you back, Ulrich. Best of luck with whatever ails you.
As for the rest of you? Well, Happy Monday.
So sorry for your loss, Garry. You have our sympathies.
Good Afternoon!
I am back again, after some kind of obscure "short" in my head sent me to the ER, where they kept me for a few days to run a number of test, including a 24 hrs. EEG. The docs still have no clue what happened, but my best guess is that I am way too much under stress to have a healthy life. A number of factors contribute to the stress, my neighbors, our financial situation and, unfortunately, my marriage being the key ones.
Garry, I am saddened to hear about your loss. My sincere condolences to you and your kin folk!
Most people in this forum have heard about the Miniatur Wunderland layout, but hardly anyone knows, that there is a fantastic gauge one layout in the Historical Museum of Hamburg. The MRR club building and opearting this layout was founded in 1946 at a time, when most of Hamburg was just a pile of rubble. Track, locos, rolling stock were all scratchbuilt and only recently, commercially made rolling stock started to populate the layout.
Unfortunately, the layout´s future is in limbo, as the new management of the museum has decided to dedicate the space occupied by the layout to a different project.
I sure hope to be able to see this layout before it is taken down. My last visit was 38 years ago ...

Work was pretty much a wasted day. Only one coustomer in 5 hours. I do have a good book to read, but that does not pay the bills.
Gary Soory about your lost.
Garry I am sorry.

Garry,
Condolences on the loss of your mother.

Garry I am sorry about loosing your mom. After loosing my wife a few years ago I sat one day contemplating life and Gods word. In John 15 he says he goes to prepare a place for us ( Mansion ) he also says that a thousand years there is like but a second. For those of us left behind it will seem like a long time before we get to go home and see our Jesus and loved ones. But for our loved ones it will seem like they just got there when we show up. I am greatful for God's grace that he made a way of escape that one day we can this leave this earth and live with him where there is no pain, no tears, no sorrow and never again will we be parted from our loved ones or him. God I ask that you comfort Garry and ease in this season of life.
Thoughts and prayers for you and the family. In due time the sorrow you feel now will give way to all the wonderful memories of years past that can never be erased.

Garry, my deepest condolences to you and your family.... My mother died (at 88) from a similar thing, she had had fallen and broke her hip (or broke her hip and fell), and for my sisters and I there was both a sense of deep, profound sadness at our loss, but also a sense of relief for her and us.... Know you and yours are in prayers constantly.
Zoe, I'll have a bowl of Heritage Flakes Organic Cereal and a pot of Marrakesh Express Dark Roast coffee to start the day...
I overslept this morning so didn't make it to church. No matter.... Last Sunday I got into a an angry "discussion" with my Pastor and the Choir Director on the way they once again "Buchered" one of my favorite new hymns. It was done entirely out of style and I fummed for the rest of the service and brought it up to Pastor Deb (who basically agrees with me but hasn't gotten anywhere with the choir and director). So after I growled and fumed at her I marched down to the choir room and told the choir director off! He is doing a good job most of the time but can't get certain choir members to change. Everything is not "Romantic Anthem" and all hymns should not end up sounding like "Onward Christian Soldiers" (tramp, tramp, tramp)! Anyway.... I soon made up with my pastor, said Mea Culpa, and told her next time I will do what the Sound Man (who used to work with me in a Praise Group at camp) did. He just stood up and walked out for the duration of the hymn. Sometimes being a Musician has it's drawbacks I guess.
Now the only reason I brought this up is (and please, lets not get into a banned discussion here) is that Monday, I get a request from the other Commissioner of the Handicapped units I work with. Thursday was a Court of Honor, and he wanted me to give a "Commissioner's Minute" at the end of the program.... The subject? "A Scout is Courteus!" Instant Karma! I included "A Scout is Friendly" as well. Used a benediction often used in my church and spoke about the life of Malala and her attitude towards those who would kill her (return no one evil for evil). Ended with the first line of the benediction again. "Go out into the world in Peace". I guess I did a good job. That was the first time I have ever heard applause from both Scouts and their parents after a "Minute".....
Yesterday was "Hands on Training" for guides and train crew out at the R&GV RR Museum to get ready for train running season. It was a well done and informative session. I even learned several new things.... While I have connected airhoses before I didn't know about a simple way to get the hose to bend for it. The gent who is the "Operations Superintendent" showed us how to hit the hose with our hand and "break" (bend) the hose so it will match easily with the other hose. Then they will just fall back down and seal. He also made sure everyone knows the chain of command and exactly what each of us are responsible for. He brought up the time last year where my quick action to stop the train from moving may have saved a little boys life. He really drilled into everyone that "Safety is Job One!" I'm looking forward to being on train again very soon!
Hope everyone is having a great day!
