Angel - What do you desire to be different about the communication with your brother ? Deeper ? More often ?
Sometimes I wonder about the communication, but it doesn't bother me. It only bothers me if... Technically I don't know what I want if I knew I would go into more detail.
I found a driver license on Monday laid in the road by the park. I mailed it yesterday, in which I forgot to mail on that actual day. I hope Alexis is happy to have her license back. Since she lives across town it should delivered on Saturday or Monday.

I was an only child. I didn't miss it growing up. When I had kids of my own, I thought there should be two for better socialization. It was just a couple years ago I heard a statement that describes us only kids. "I am an only child, I don't want help and I don't expect help"
It seems like most people I know don't get along with their siblings, in a BIG WAY. Not a blanket statement, my wife has to call her sister twice a day. I'm really not sure what she has to tell her sister after dinner that she couldn't tell her before dinner, but that's the way it is.
On the trainfront I got nuthin'. Was babysitting the granddaughter today. I have the short side of my 'L' to ponder. I was thinking a double crossover and a shallow river which will require at least one bridge. I may just put some temporary track down and work on scenicing the main L

Work Front. Work was pretty boring, only 3 people all day. On the bright side I got some reading done and took a cat nap.
yougottawanta SIL if he will do it is always a good option. Do you know anyone who might have a recommendation for a handi man for your fence if the SIL declines the offer
YGW My daughter said NO, he cannot come over and play. Well she said he said he did not have the time. But more than likely she did not want him to. She is afraid he will get back into trains.
Think I may tackle it a lone for now. I may buy the post hole aguer and have at it. One thing that had encouraged me is the two folks that came out did not think the gravel would be a problem? Well they know more than I, so what the heck.
By the way YGW, soory I forgot to call you today, just plain slipped what is left of my mind.
New Computer Right now I am at a stand still. Cannot find my Words CD, with out it I cannot transfer my files! Bet I looked through 200 cd's and no words. Any one have a copy they don't need?

No one in here since Cuda Ken last evening. Almost 12 hours. If this doesn't change Vinnie will be shutting down the night shift.
Maybe most Guys and Gals are out camping or something getting their summer started or our Down Under Gang, getting ready for their winter.
I am at work this week end so not much happening here. Just thought I would check in and hope you all enjoy this Holiday week end.
Still thinking of you Garry and hope your Mother is as comfortable as she can be and if she passes that it is calmly and peaceful. Such a sad time no matter what the age for those who are left behind.. But believe it to be a real celebration for those passing on and to return to our Eternal Home.
It is getting very worrysome about or MIAs. Galaxy, Ulrich and Paul to name a few. Our kind thoughts and Prayers are with them, hope we hear soon.
My Son was travelling on I-90 west of Billings the other day and he told me he saw one of the longest trains he has ever encountered. It was a Military train with all loaded flats, two to three vehicles on each flat and you name it it was on there. Jeeps, Tanks, heavy trucks, launchers, Humvees, etc. etc. He said it was quite a sight. Does anyone know what that movement was all about. Someone said it must have been for Hillary's next State vote. Lol.
Well must get back to work. Will check in later.
Keep smiling and have fun.

Afternoon Diners,
Last week when Ulrich posted he was angry/upset about the situations of what's happening and let's hope he's okay when he went to the hospital.
I saw that Intermountain is making G52X 1997-1998 Coalporters in Conrail with the 3CRI2 sticker.
I thought these would like nice on Norfolk Southern coal train. But on the other hand it would be short lived on Conrail.
Good evening all
Won the race to get the mowing done last night before the next batch of rolled in to the area This morning I actually slept in until 8am I havent done that in years. Then I got up and read a book for a few hours. I could see MOH was getting ancy about me getting some of my stuffed unboxed ( we finally bought Office furniture ) and she wants me to get the stuff unboxed and and set up. To keep peace in the house I took a few hours and unboxed four boxes. So that has been my morning. RR news. Some stuff I ordered from the N&W historical society came in. Hope to take some time and open up the boxes. Yesterday a black and white photo I ordered of the Roanoke yard came in Later tonight I am going to go done and unpack some more of my trains

Flo a Barry Buger and a Please.
I had high hopes for today! Work was sloooow for the first 4 hours and I was feeling pretty good! I plained to stop by Lowes and buy a Gas Powerd Houger, four 4"X4"X 8' post, four bags of concret and some Agent Orange! Well as close as I could get that is. Then stop by Harbour Freight and pick up a small foutain pump and a airless sparyer. Get home and dig some fence post!
A round 3:00 PM I got a little busy and had a fair day with $1700.00 is sales. But, about 5:15 PM I stated to feel like caboose. I did eat but never felt a lot better. Then I realized I had no food for work for Sunday. Blew off Lowes, did get to Harbour Freight and stopped and shopped for food on the way home.
Well I am beat, I sure wish I was 28 years old again! But most of us here do.
Ken
Hello all
Quiet night at work.
So I recently got a 'new' camera and the first pic I took was of the layout. It's about 3' X 9' w/ Kato N-scale track.
Still needs a lot of the electrical hooked up. Been trying to clear out some stuff underneath so I have room to work (it kinda dominates the living room).
And yes, I'm single.
Sure hope Ulrich is ok. Miss his posts and Z gauge videos.

All the best.

Garry, my deepest condolences to you and your family.... My mother died (at 88) from a similar thing, she had had fallen and broke her hip (or broke her hip and fell), and for my sisters and I there was both a sense of deep, profound sadness at our loss, but also a sense of relief for her and us.... Know you and yours are in prayers constantly.
Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, I'll have a bowl of Heritage Flakes Organic Cereal and a pot of Marrakesh Express Dark Roast coffee to start the day...
I overslept this morning so didn't make it to church. No matter.... Last Sunday I got into a an angry "discussion" with my Pastor and the Choir Director on the way they once again "Buchered" one of my favorite new hymns. It was done entirely out of style and I fummed for the rest of the service and brought it up to Pastor Deb (who basically agrees with me but hasn't gotten anywhere with the choir and director). So after I growled and fumed at her I marched down to the choir room and told the choir director off! He is doing a good job most of the time but can't get certain choir members to change. Everything is not "Romantic Anthem" and all hymns should not end up sounding like "Onward Christian Soldiers" (tramp, tramp, tramp)! Anyway.... I soon made up with my pastor, said Mea Culpa, and told her next time I will do what the Sound Man (who used to work with me in a Praise Group at camp) did. He just stood up and walked out for the duration of the hymn. Sometimes being a Musician has it's drawbacks I guess.
Now the only reason I brought this up is (and please, lets not get into a banned discussion here) is that Monday, I get a request from the other Commissioner of the Handicapped units I work with. Thursday was a Court of Honor, and he wanted me to give a "Commissioner's Minute" at the end of the program.... The subject? "A Scout is Courteus!" Instant Karma! I included "A Scout is Friendly" as well. Used a benediction often used in my church and spoke about the life of Malala and her attitude towards those who would kill her (return no one evil for evil). Ended with the first line of the benediction again. "Go out into the world in Peace". I guess I did a good job. That was the first time I have ever heard applause from both Scouts and their parents after a "Minute".....
Yesterday was "Hands on Training" for guides and train crew out at the R&GV RR Museum to get ready for train running season. It was a well done and informative session. I even learned several new things.... While I have connected airhoses before I didn't know about a simple way to get the hose to bend for it. The gent who is the "Operations Superintendent" showed us how to hit the hose with our hand and "break" (bend) the hose so it will match easily with the other hose. Then they will just fall back down and seal. He also made sure everyone knows the chain of command and exactly what each of us are responsible for. He brought up the time last year where my quick action to stop the train from moving may have saved a little boys life. He really drilled into everyone that "Safety is Job One!" I'm looking forward to being on train again very soon!
Hope everyone is having a great day!

Garry I am sorry about loosing your mom. After loosing my wife a few years ago I sat one day contemplating life and Gods word. In John 15 he says he goes to prepare a place for us ( Mansion ) he also says that a thousand years there is like but a second. For those of us left behind it will seem like a long time before we get to go home and see our Jesus and loved ones. But for our loved ones it will seem like they just got there when we show up. I am greatful for God's grace that he made a way of escape that one day we can this leave this earth and live with him where there is no pain, no tears, no sorrow and never again will we be parted from our loved ones or him. God I ask that you comfort Garry and ease in this season of life.
Condolences on the loss of your mother.

Good Afternoon!
I am back again, after some kind of obscure "short" in my head sent me to the ER, where they kept me for a few days to run a number of test, including a 24 hrs. EEG. The docs still have no clue what happened, but my best guess is that I am way too much under stress to have a healthy life. A number of factors contribute to the stress, my neighbors, our financial situation and, unfortunately, my marriage being the key ones.
Garry, I am saddened to hear about your loss. My sincere condolences to you and your kin folk!
Most people in this forum have heard about the Miniatur Wunderland layout, but hardly anyone knows, that there is a fantastic gauge one layout in the Historical Museum of Hamburg. The MRR club building and opearting this layout was founded in 1946 at a time, when most of Hamburg was just a pile of rubble. Track, locos, rolling stock were all scratchbuilt and only recently, commercially made rolling stock started to populate the layout.
Unfortunately, the layout´s future is in limbo, as the new management of the museum has decided to dedicate the space occupied by the layout to a different project.
I sure hope to be able to see this layout before it is taken down. My last visit was 38 years ago ...
So sorry for your loss, Garry. You have our sympathies.

I already drove over to Phelps Cement this morning and bought 3 concrete blocks to finish the raised beds by the shed. Later today I shall go over to the Menonite Landscaping place nearby and buy a few bags of Moo Dirt ® to add to the beds and the old ones as well. Then i hope to get the seeds planted by the end of the day. Time will tell.
Better sign off as Blackie is reminding me I haven't fed them yet today!
Later!
Garry and Family,
I was saddened to read this about your Mother this morning, but that is a wonderful stretch of time to be here on earth. My Mother and her Mother made it to 94 and my other Grandmother made it to 99.
The men however were not so lucky, my Grandfathers went at 48 and 52 and my Dad went at 72. So far I am ahead of the men.
May you and your Family have peace in your soul and lasting fond memories in your hearts till you meet again.
Our sincere condolenses.
Johnboy.
Ulrich SO GLAD you are back. Been very concerned for you

We are enjoying a slight respite in the heat here in the Valley of the Sun. Today's high is only supposed to be 91F. Given that it is very dry, the relative humidity is in the low teens, 91 is actually quite comfortable. This morning it was a balmy 65 when I went out for my morning ride.
For all those dealing with the loss of a loved one, here is my a favorite poem of mine by Henry Van Dike (I had to misspell his last name, substituting an "i" for the "y". Apparently the forum software finds the other spelling objectionable.)--
I am standing upon the seashore. A ship, at my side,
spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts
for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength.
I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck
of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.
Then, someone at my side says, "There, she is gone."
Gone where?
Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast,
hull and spar as she was when she left my side.
And, she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.
Her diminished size is in me -- not in her.
And, just at the moment when someone says, "There, she is gone,"
there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices
ready to take up the glad shout, "Here she comes!"
Richard
Evenin' folks!
Wow! Been 7 hours since anyone posted here in the Diner..... I guess the evening crew should be stopping by pretty soon. Janie, just a refill for my decaf please.
I actually had to turn on the air conditioner today. High was 78°F and bright sun most all day. Tomorrow is supposed to get up to 80° so I shall likely have to switch to Air Conditioner again. Will turn the heat back on before I go to bed tonight since the low will be in the high 40's.... So far this season this is only the second time I have turned on the Air Conditioner. The Air only kicked on a few times.
Got the raised beds finished, filled them with Moo Dirt ® and just got back inside from planting my pole beans. Also rototilled two of the three wooden raised beds with my little electric tiller and added some Moo Dirt to them. Hopefully I will get time to buy my peppers, brocolli, and califlower plants and by this time tomorrow they should all be planted. Only other thing I have to do tomorrow is go to the dentist to have a crown removed and a cavity under it filled... That way I get to pay for a brand new crown.... Ain't I lucky!
About the time I got the concrete blocks set in place, it was lunch time. Came in and found a message from my son saying he really needed my help and to call him back ASAP! So I had a quick lunch and then called him back (usually his messages like that means he needs help sometime in the next couple of days). Turns out he was out on Seneca Lake in his boat for the first time this season (has to make sure it is working well since next weekend is the Annual Lake Trout Derby here in Geneva. It will bring people from around the country and world to fish Seneca Lake to compete for some good prize money). Anyway he needs help getting the boat back on the trailer and out of the water. He got the trailer with the boat down the ramp at the park in Geneva and found out the Parking Brake doesn't work! Luckily he had just bought a wheel stop which he was able to put under one of the back wheels so he could get the boat in the water, but didn't trust the safety of everything to winch the boat out and onto the trailer. I don't think SWMBO would be pleased if he was to roll the car all the way down the ramp and into the water...... I drove the car with the trailer for him and just held the brakes while he winched the boat onto the trailer.
I am also researching what the old style iron bands looked like and how they connected on the late 1800's Water Tanks for RRs. I am doing a kitbash for one on the new area on the layout. There was one over in a place called The Hamlet of Orleans not far from here. The origonal RR there was the Sodus Bay and Southern. It was absorbed/leased/taken over by the Northern Central before the Water Tower was built so it was likely an old style PRR design. I have found one photo online and it definately has the iron bands, not the later steel rods around the tank. I am trying to find a closeup of the dohicky that tighens the bands on the tank. This will be a "personalized" rendition of a craftsman kit I have had sitting on the shelf for several years... The new one there is still in service. It is the water supply for the fire dept. in case of a call. It was the town water supply until recently when the health dept. found the supply did not meet standards (contaminated) for drinking water. It is in excellent condition and is a nice tourist thing for the community. There used to be a 5 star restaurant across the street from the water tower. It originally served, ah..., lunch (and some other stuff) to train crews while the locos were serviced.
Researching the water tower led me to an article in my local paper a couple years back about the last major train accident in this area. They mention the restaurant in the article. Happened just a few miles down the rail from Orleans, NY. A friend and I (We were seniors in High School) found out about soon after it happened and drove over to "Get in the way" for a few hours. I remember seeing the locomotive in the photo then. I believe that one still sits at the bottom of Flint Creek.... http://www.fltimes.com/lifestyle/rail-tragedy-revisited-years-ago-two-trains-hit-head-on/article_0759af8c-cbdf-11e3-9b02-0019bb2963f4.html
