Audrey here.

Barry caught a bad case of pneumonia a few days ago. This morning he was averaging 103 and lungs quite full of fluid. So far they got it down to 101 and seemed to have gained on the fluid in his lungs.

Pray for him please.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a bowl of raison bran cereal and a pot of Seneca Lake....  What your out of it!!??  Harumph!  OK, lets try the Berkley Shark Bite blend then....  I'll try most anything once.  Sometimes twice.....

Weather gueser's say mostly cloudy today, but so far it has been mostlty bright sunshine out there... Not even noon yet and the panels on the roof have already made about 10 kWh today.  Solar noon is about 1:15 this afternoon at the moment, so depending on how much partly we get this afternoon, today could be a very good day.  Been down cellar doing my wash and getting to use some of "those" words.  Yep putting together a Laser Art Kit.  A Sears Kit House.  Period correct for my layout (not too new) and I keep dropping or poping the little laser cut pieces.  I just had two pieces of window stuff sitting sticky side up on the workbench and was cutting the acetate windows for it.  Cut the acetate and then couldn't find the window pieces....  One was on the floor and the other was stuck to my hand!  That took about 15 minutes and a lot of those words to accomplish...  I think I like scratch building better than kits anyway.  Need to make most of the buildings for the last area on the layout I am currently working on before finishing the hillsides so everything will fit.  Need to account for the mainline track and a couple siding as well....  Also figure I need to get that area pretty much done before finishing the second bridge over Keuka Creek.  Mostly for the ability to easily work in that area.

 Ulrich good to see you, and great that you are finally starting to feel a bit better!  You know we worry about you!

Din't recall seeing Galaxy in the diner for a couple days.  Hope all is well with him!

Time to head downstairs and do some more with the wash and the kit...

Couldn't sleep worth a lick last night.  Read for a while, piddled on the computer, went back to bed at 3 and someone's car alarm went off, again.

Painting the Heritage Furniture building.  I tried MM Wood in the little rectangles with a brush.  It looked too yellow and was in need of a second coat, so I masked off all those little rectangles and that took nearly all afternoon.  My airbrush nozzle arrived yesterday so I will spray it a darker color this afternoon.

The tab key?  Aside from tabbing, or inserting a fix number of space with a word processor, it moves the cursor to the next fillable spot in most online forms.  If you press ALT and Tab at the same time, you can jump to other programs that are also running, say from your browser to Word to your track design program.

Wow man, push the windows button and the tab simulataneously, it's like the 60's man.

The tab key is located above the "Caps Lock" key on the far left of a traditional keyboard. It usually has an arrow (-->) on it.

Good Afternoon!

I had not been feeling well the past days, but there are little signs of improvement now. I can now move again, whereas I was close to being completely immobilzed yestaerday and the day before.

A big Sigh of relief!

The benefit was that I have lost about 5 pounds!

I am not yet in a position to resume w*rk on my layout. I am also not sure whether I will be able to complete it as my dexterity has suffered  quite a bit. In any case, I hope I can bring it up into a state I can sell it for a good price. I don´t think I can do without any MRRing, so whatever I will be able to do in the future must be "childproof"! Going back to my old Marklin days? Well, I still have this beauty:

I am surprized how heavy that diecast loco is, and how crisp some of the cast on detail and the lettering is. Quite extraordinary when you now that the loco was first marketed about 50 years ago!

Time will tell which route I´ll be able to go down.

Folks - the tab key is the key with those to little arrows pointing in opposite directions. It´s located in the upper side left of your key board.

Anybody care to join me for a Beer at the RC?

Hey all

Cold cloudy rainy spring day here in Northern Va. Things have been oddly quite from the office lately. Something must be keeping them very busy. That means I get a LOT done without all of the interuptions Yes

Train front. Purchased and recieved some small details. Trash cans, street lids, lanterns amd I paid for the J that I purchased on ebay. I also purchased a C unit by Atlas for $75. This weekend I hope to get my M&W up and running again. I have to replace a power pack that died.

Steve - Thanks at least I know it is not this "puter" Next question : What is the "Tab" key. You have to remember that I am the generation that is Pre "Beepers". We used to carry a pocket full of change and hit the pay phone booths. Which have now disappeared ( where does superman change now ? ! ) Thanks

mr b still playing hockey on tuesday nights? I was able to get out with the fellas this winter also. But for the most part attention is now on baseball if the weather will cooperate. Do you get guys out that have a lot of pro stock equipment. We do, I am fortunate enough to have a couple friends that play in the nhl and other pro leagues so I don't have to worry about sticks and gloves.

Yes, I'm still on the ice every Tuesday night.  I've got a fill-in job this Thursday night, too.

A few years ago, our other goalie retired and moved south.  He gave me all his extra sticks, most of which had never been used, so I haven't bought a stick in years.  They are good stuff.  He's one of those guys who always had to had top-of-the-line equipment.

After a year of really concentrating on exercise, I find my game is a lot better.

Steve - Hello. I have a question. If I go to the forum first. Hit reply then the login in logo pops up. Problem is that the log in screen will not allow me to click in and log in ? Probably operator error on my part. ????

Nope, other people have encountered the same thing, since we changed our Customer Service department to Tampa and switched our login-authentication to their software. Don't know when they'll get to fixing it, either, because there are other issues they need to fix first. Huh? But anyway, you can get around it by hitting the "TAB" key on your keyboard to put the cursor in the text box so you can type in your info. Then "TAB" again to the password box.

Greetings everyone.  Cramming the final part of my semester and Business Administration diploma - then taxes and bookkeeping from my home office. Tonight is promising to be a long one - is there a 2 litre mocha available?  and a sub sandwich.  In a few weeks we are moving "south" (into the basement suite), when the renovations are done.  In May I'll have more time to crack the breeze a bit.  Take care all.

"Reefer" was a slang term for refrigerator cars.  I'm not sure if it's still used for today's mechanically-cooled cars, but it definintely was for the old ice-bunker cars, which kept the contents in the middle cold by filling the end compartments with ice through hatches in the top.  Breweries took advantage of these cars by having them painted as mobile advertising.

Some no-fun-allowed government agency eventually banned the practice of billboard advertising on freight cars.  The breweries probably weren't too upset, as they had found that putting "BEER" in big letters on a railroad car made it a prime target for thirsty thieves.

Beer reefers are a colorful addition to any Transition Era fleet.  Reefers in general can be used to add operational interest as well, as they must be "iced" at an icing platform, both just before or after loading and also in transit on a long haul.

An icing platform can be thought of as an "industry" with some special properties.  Like a rail-served stockyard for exercising and watering livestock, it is a stopover for through freights.  It's also one of those rare industries where it actually is realistic to move cars from the ice platform to a brewery or packing plant within the layout proper.  There were even "ice service" reefers that would deliver ice from elsewhere to the icing platforms.

Hello, der5997! Your track plan is looking better all the time. I noticed a couple things that had me curious, though.

First thing is that the turnout that leads to the two industries in the middle of the main loop. It looks like it sets up a bit of an S-curve there that may prove troublesome for longer-wheelbase locomotives and rolling stock. If it were me, I'd change that to a left-hand turnout instead of a right, and place it right after the bridge over (what I presume is) the waterway.

…Later this evening – I’ve just laid that out and agree that it solves the potential “S” – so this is now what is drawn on the table. It may not be as curvy as Ulrich would like to see; but overall, I’m liking the way this thing is shaping up.    Don’t worry about the siding which seems to teeter on the edge of an abyss. That whole feature is not so much a river as a dry wash – really an excuse to have a bridge – which up to that point the layout lacked. Thanks for your help.Bow

Second is the track to the small business along the front edge of the long leg of the L. It seems to cross over the main line loop twice, but I can't see where it connects to the main. Is it a non-functional display track?

As Garry has correctly remembered, that little line is a Tourist N3n track and to one side of, or above, the main. So the crossings are not interferences.  Curiously, I realized last night as I was moving tunnel portals and so forth around the layout, that I had misjudged the height I’d need to achieve the first of those crossings. So, I’m going to have to begin the Z=N3n tracks in the area of what you took to be “small business”( = engine shed!) about 2 inches in the air! What in reality this means is that the tourist line will have to have an elevator / emergency stairs set up for the wee folk to get from the station on the main and/or road access from the town. I’ll cut slabs of Styrofoam 1” with the correct grade to build the sub-roadbed for that Z trackage. Doesn’t have to be very wide just smooth faced, as the slabs will be surrounded by other scenery. Should be fun.

Der John .... I think when we drove our rental car from the Halifax airport to downtown, we did drive around the east end of Halifax and went over a bridge. It's been several years since we did that. 
  That was likely the MacKay Bridge -  So this next time you have to widen your horizons and take the route out of Halifax which is Nova Scotia’s Best Kept Secret – the Eastern Shore!  Leave Halifax and venture forth! Worth the drive – and especially so in sunny weather. As I said, Google Earth will show you…

Good evening.  It has been a cool, wet day in the mid Ohio valley.  Luckily the dog walks occurred between showers. 

Talked to my granddaughter who rowed this weekend in New Jersey for U or Alabama.  She said is was very cold and windy and they thought they were at a disadvantage to all the northeastern schools who routinely row in colder weather.  She said it was nice to get off the plain in Birmingham on the way home to 70 degree weather after a cold weekend.  Really proud of her as she was a walk on as a freshman and has worked really hard and is now rowing in the top varsity 8 boat.  She was also saying she believes she may get her first 4.0 grade average this semester and is really enjoying school since switching to business.

Had an enjoyable outing with the wife yesterday to celebrate a friend's 80's birthday.  They had enough food to feed half the country.  Wife talked to her this morning and she said they were able to donate most of the left over food to the local food pantry.

Layout front - spiked down more track in a curve to facilitate installing another turnout.  About ready for more roadbed painting before laying of a lot of ties. 

Been doing lots of studying of British history as I am taking a learning in retirement class on British history and myths.  Lots of good youtube BBC and other shows on early British history.  I have to get the TV set hooked up so I can watch youtube on the big screen instead of the small laptop screen.

ray good to still catch up on your posts, I always enjoy reading them.

as far as I have been I haven't done any layout work since the fall and really don't know when I will be back at the layout. Just don't have the motivation at the moment plus with any luck warm weather will be here soon and I can get back out on the bike

Enjoying some spring weather today in Northern Virginia after having snowshowers on Saturday.  Think that was winters last visit until Nov/Dec.

Went to MB Klein today to purchase some figures, rolling stock and ESU sound decoder to continue my sound installation projects.

Steven ... I think Der explained in an earlier post, he had a narrow guage line, and that would be the answer to your second question... 

YGW .... The old bridge had a series of spans which formed an arch over the water. The ship went under one of the lowest spans and hit the span. It did not hit the pier. If he navigated under the highest span, the ship would have cleared and there would not have been an accident. ... There is no protection for the piers, and barges can sideswipe them if the barge tow is off course.

Good evening all

Spent most of the weekend mowinhg, burning a brush pile, misc yard clean up...Burned teh crud out of my hand. At the edge of the burn pile there was a part od a limb that I thought had not burned. So I grab it only to realize that it had in fact been burning on the BOTTOM ! And the coals burned two of my fingers rather badly ! DUH !!! Bang Head

Train front I made an offer on a Bachman Spectrum J with the std tender and the extra tender for 25% below asked price and the ebay vender accepted. Cool Nice !!! Now I have several Js to pull multiple passenger runs !

Today I finished tuning my first piano. I certainly will need to pick up the pace if I am going to try and get paid for this. In total, it took me more than eight hours spread across multiple days to tune the piano. I could take that long as it was the Kawai upright in our house. My goal is to get good enough to be able to generate some post-retirement income.

I slept in today and Blackie got his insulin two hours later than he did yesterday....  That should be OK as he only gets a tiny amount anyway now.  The two of them are supposed to visit the vet this thursday for the blood work to see how they are doing.  Of course that could change if the Body Shop decides that Thursday will be the day for repairing the PiP.  Want to get this finished ASAP.  Yesterday my gas milage on the way to Batavia was all of 39mpg...  That is 10 mpg off the rated mpg for the car at highway speed....  Of course with the major frost on the windsheild I kicked on the heat which fired uo the ICE, so it went the entire distance on gasoline...  The trip home was much better as I averaged 63mpg.  Guess it is downhill on the way home... LOL

 Brother Elias, good to see you back in the "Stream" of things!

I am out the door to get a mile walk in over at the Feildhouse this morning.  then i have to stop at the Natural Foods Store for my month's supply of Organic Dark Roast Coffee (yes, Seneca Lake Blend and Marrakesh Express).

The Batavia Show was great as always.  A lot of good vendors there and shoppers going out the door with full bags of purchases.  I even spent a few $$$ on a couple coal cars...  One is way too modern for my layout, but it is a car being sold by a Rochester club as a fund raiser.  I will assemble the kit and run it in the coal train and see how long it takes to have anyone notice that it is 20 years too modern for the layout.....  It will go along with several other intentional glitches i have there as jokes....

Got a couple more signatures during the show for the petition, and it looks like we will be able to get enough signatures to file the petition at the convention in May!
