Evening Diners,
Don't worry about opening the diner tomorrow Ulrich I'll do it. Unless Galaxy wants to open it.
Amtrak America, 1971-Present.
Still no power at w**k brought the "puter " home and looked at PMs. So much easier to work from !
Howmus - Well that is just WRONG ! That is very misleading on Vermonts part !
Chessie - I answered your PM
Galaxy - I answered your PM too.
Ulrich - The bus looks good on there Praying for the best at your Docs appointment.
Tin Can - They will not mail you some ?
Ken - Here is something we have done in the past. Take a 5 gallon bucket. drill 1/2 holes around the sides and bottom. Cover with cheap window screen. Drop bucket in water, drop pump in and pump away. Saves the pump and you dont have to unclogg it as often.

My oh my, but that was one fine bike ride. For the first time in many months, I was out in bike shorts and a bike jersey - no extra shirts, leggings or windbreakers. It was in the 70s. Once again, I retraced the path of the old Billerica and Bedford Railroad, and then picked up some B&M right-of-way once past the Depot at Bedford, finally arriving at the site of a long-forgotten steam-era derailment on the Reformatory Branch.

Evening Dinners
Flo, Beer Please.
Did some running today, about all I did. Stopped by the local Habita For Humanity ReStore store. They did have some nice stuff, walked with a office chair for $6.00. I was hoping they have some 2X6X8' foot boards so I could patch up the fence.
Tin Can Yes I have done a lot! Only YGW as seen photo's I was ashamed to post here. Under the pool cover, well that is a diffrent story. That mess will take me most of the summer to clean up!
YGW So far I have not touched the fence. Funny thing I was never written up about the fence because I was told to remove the swiming pool! I know that part is coming, but right now I am working on what I have been told I have to do. But, I do have a plan! As soon as I get the Credit Card paid down, I am buy a gas power Post Hole Digger. Just to many post to dig to rent one. On the missing section I will dig off set post holes. I will butt the new section up against the old section. Then I will move on from there. While I will have to have more post this way but the fence can be done one 16 foot section at a time.
Only side of the fence that will hard is the pool side where the gravel had moved. My worst fear as not happened, the gravel I dug out has not moved so far. Back section I will patch up the missing boards till I get the pool side done.
Dirty Water Pump Question How do you folks think one will do sucking up rotten leaves out of the pool?
Ulrich on what the Dr says. I must admit last night I lost some sleep with my up coming stress test.
Galaxy Soory to read you are still having problems.
See you all Friday. Hum, April Fools Day. That is when I joined the Army, guess the joke was on me!
Ken
I hate Rust
It´s getting time to call it a day.
I am not going to be in tomorrow morning, as I have an early appointment with my cardiologist to discuss the further treatment.
May I, for that reason, pass on the responsibility to open the April Diner to whoever feels inclined to do so?
Thanks!
Morning diners,
The guy came by at 7 this morning to get the bees out of the tree. We were lucky because some people call every year(round this time, spring) to rid of them.
Thanks for the concerns about my situation.
MB- My brother has access to maple syrup at the source; his in-laws own land with sugar maples and a sugar shack in NW Wisconsin. Doesn't do me a bit of good in Texas...
Sometimes I ask this simple question: What is stored in the International Strategic Reserve?
Most people guess oil or gold, but no, it's ..... maple syrup. The facility, which is in Quebec, is intended to keep our pancakes covered in the event of war, pestilence, flood or Sasquatch invasions.
It's already in the 60s today, with bright skies. It is very windy, so I'll take the mountain bike into the woods where I'll be sheltered. Next week? They are predicting snow, although they can't make up their minds how much.
YGW: Seems like the only time we see our kids now is on spring break; and they are on different schedules...
Ken: Looks like you are making significant progress; wish I was closer to give you a hand...
Angelo: My parents just had some Africanized honey bees removed from their yard; hope yours stay away.
I have a car full of trains; ArJay is graciously going to help me at fine tune a couple (well maybe more than that) locos at our club tonight in preparation for open house on 4/9. I haven't run trains in years. Going to focus on my new Athearn Topeka cabbed GP7s; Monon F7s; and my Santa Fe 2-10-2. Don't tell him, but I've got my CF7s loaded as well....
May try to get some pictures; if I can figure out how to load them. I haven't used photobucket in years...
Mornin' everyonbe!
Zoe, I'll have a short stack of Buttermilk Pancakes with Real NYS Maple Syrup and a couple sausage links to go along with my Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast Coffee please... Yes, a 30 cup pot will probably get me through the rest of the morning.
yougottawantaHowmus - REALLY ! A lot of Vermont syrup is from NY ! That is surprising ! Who would have thoughit it. So Vermont is taking the credit for the NYers hard work !
About 30 or so years ago there was a bug stink about this.... What it amounts to is a couple of large producers were (proabably still do) buy tank car/truck loads of Maple tree sap from over the border in New York State. So saying that a lot of Vermont Maple Syrup comes from new York is partially, kinda true, and also just a local joke type of thing. I think the sap has to be boiled down to syrup in Vermont for it to be labeled as Vermont Maple Syrup.... Rather like a nearby winery that brings in tank cars of California grape juice and uses 10% Finger Lakes grape juice and therefore is allowed to call it NYS Wine.... We do have local Sugar festival(s) around here where people can visit the sugar shacks on farms and sample some fresh Maple Sugar products (and spend some serious money there as well....). (here's one: http://www.maplefestival.org/) The season started very early this year as we basically had no winter in these parts. Have no idea on what the sugar content of the sap was... Poor quality sap just means the sap has to be concentrated more and is more expensive to produce.
Galaxy, very sorry to hear of the troubles the two of you are still having.... Will keep you folks in my prayers.
Angelo, If you are talking about honey bees, they will leave all by themselves just as soon as they have located a permanent hollow tree, or somebody's house siding, or the walls of an old barn, or any place else they can make a home. If they are still hanging around when the BeeKeeper gets there and he gets the new queen, the swarm will not be back..... I had a swarm (not hive, hive is a permanent home) next door a couple years ago. They are fastinating to watch, just stay away from them and they won't bother anyone (even the africanized ones) Bother them and they will defend the queen vigorously!!!
Today is , as Barry would say, Dull! Dark, gloomy and dull out there and currently 54°F with a high around 65°F with lots of drizzle and stuff. Need to make 7 more kWh of electric today to hit 400 kWh for the month of March. It is already the best March I have had for electric production...
Have a Scout and his Grandmother coming over to complete Music Merit Badge this afternoon... Thing I better do a bit of house cleaning today... Maybe even get down to the Train room and do some scenery work. Catch you all later!
Ray Seneca Lake, Ontario, and Western R.R. (S.L.O.&W.) in HO
We'll get there sooner or later!
Happy April Fools Eve to everyone.
Angelo, read the warranty carefully about returning bees. The guy can claim any appearing later are not the same ones!
I'm mostly flat on the back since Tues am due to recurring, painful back problem. Used to be at least several years between episodes but this time happened just 7 months ago. Aging plus need for more exercise. Need a little less RR time and a bit more gym and bike hours.

Afternoon, Folks!
Well, believe it or not, I have been busy since this morning - with hardly a minute to spare for a break! I started to mark the position of the catenary masks, which involves a lot of measuring, calculating, measuring again, marking the position and double-check again. Takes about 20 minutes per length of catenary. It also takes a lot of background knowledge on the make-up of the system. I am just happy I have the Sommerfeldt (that´s the manufacturer) reference book and installation guide.
While I was doing this, I thought it to be time to rework the dirt path alongside of the track. It was not "Swiss" enough, i.e. orderly. Now it is!
It´ll be quite some time until I have saved up the funds for the catenary. That stuff is not cheap.
Galaxy - I am sorry to hear the old family issues have not been resolved. I still hope there is a turn for the better, whatever that is.
I will be staying in the corner booth to enjoy my
Where did everyone go ? Headed to NY for the maple syrup festival ? Left without me ! Sighhhhhh !
Galaxy - in my post below I stated that I am without power due to a careless plumber. Working off of phone. I cannot find PMs on the phone screen. Hopefully I will have power back on later today and can log in from computer and can check PMs. Sorry to hear about your home situations. That is a tough place to be. Has your counselor given up by that statement ?
Angel - $150 for bee removal ? What kind of bees ? I know that's a lot BUT I wouldn't touch a nest of angry bees for that !
Ken - wow that looks like a LOT of w**k has be done. What is the status of the fence ?
Ulrich - you okay ?
Howmus - REALLY ! A lot of Vermont syrup is from NY ! That is surprising ! Who would have thoughit it. So Vermont is taking the credit for the NYers hard work !
Kids are on spring break and Grandma and Grandpa have taken them for the next three days - I LOVE my kids BUT YAHOOOOOO. There will be some Mom and Pop time alone. Oh the peace and quiet will be nice for a few days. We are already making plans....
WEll, COunseling doesn't seem to be working. The counselor actually said we should each do our own thing to be healthy, which will make the relationship helathier! THAT is a BIG problem alreay, MOH no longer wnats to eat dinner with me at dinner time, sleeps all evening leaving me alone and lonely, is STILL out running around {you know what I mean}, spends more time ddoing that than worlking on the relationship. so...THAT is ALREADY driving us further apart. MOH says "I wnat this marriage to work and on't wnat to throw away 16years"....but meanwhile IS NOT working on the relationship. I am looking into divorce and divorce attorneys. I think I am done with the relationship.
ah well...the phone book is handy.....

Happy Morning!
How Are y'all?
YGW: I am STILL awaiting a response to the PM!
The contractor got the new storm oor installed, had to really tweek it and finishe the tile up the wall above the sink to the ceiling and the sides of the new cabinets flanking the sink. He said he does whatever the client wants, but he LIKES the job he did for us. He siad if HE likes it, that's saying something, an of course WE like it. Now to get the slider in the Bonus room...for cheap...
SO now for the slider I have to move the existing raised bed planting sections.
We will see....
haf yerselfs a gradios day!
I called the beekeeper again today. It will cost me $150 for removal and a 30 day warranty if they come back. They'll be here tomorrow around 7-10 a.m.
Train News: Apparently the Red Caboose Auto Racks aren't cancelled. But my hobby shop was worried on why I contracted Fox Valley Models and where I got their my information.
Afternoon Dinners!
Yard Wars It threaten to storm on and off all morning and afternoon. Caught a few quick showers with thunder in the back ground but that was about it.
So I went out and attacked the mess I call a backyard. Right of the bat my new Chainsaw broke! Long story on the Chainsaw. It was a Christmas gift from my daughter and Son-in-law that I had to pay for? So I do not have the recipe? I got to use it for a whole 4 minutes but I got what I wanted to cut, cut down.
Cleared about 20 feet of the jungle off what is left of the back of the yard fence. Boy the bugs ate the heck out of it. I pretty sure I can get some new boards up for a while untill I replaces the fence post.
Bottom line, I can see the end of the tunnel. While the yard is still a mess not the mess I was to ashamed to show you folks.
What it looks like now.
Later, Ken
Afternoon folks....
Janie, Just a cup of hot chocolate and a few of those NYS Maple Candies you got over there on the counter.... Oh, give one of those to YGW while your at it.
yougottawantaHowmus - didn't know NYers made syrup. How does it taste ?
The best in the world sir! The very best there is.... In fact a good deal of the famous Vermont Maple Syrup comes from NYS Trees.... There are quite a few Sugar Shack Farms right here in the Finger Lakes. One all of 4 miles down the road that is a big producer (large dairy farm as well). More information here: http://www.nysmaple.com/
Just got back from the trip to Webster to check out the space we will be using for the Spring Meet. Should be perfect. All I need to find is one more layout to open up for the afternoon session and we will be set!
Yesterday turned out to be the best day so far this year for electric generation. The panels cranked out 27.41 kWh yesterday. That makes this the best March since I had them installed and we have two days to go.... Today has also been very sunny so it should be up around 25 kWh as well.
Have a bunch of stuff to get done, so I will catch you all later!

Crazy day here in VA. This morning it was in the 30s. Now it is 60/and rising. To add to the craziness. Yesterday the plumber cut the power line while excavating a Sani on site - to my office trailer It destroyed the panel, conduit and about 150' of very expensive wire !
Will be out of power for three days !!!
Howmus - didn't know NYers made syrup. How does it taste ?
Galaxy - welcome to HOwnership. I have spent 16k since moving in and still twice that needed !
Ulrich - nice bus
John - really a subway in the bush ?
Garry - here is a for you and your emergency. Hope all goes well.
Ken - can't see my PMS until the power is restored at my site trailer. It may be back on tomorrow ???? Thanks for the extras. Love the wheels. Sending a note to you via snail mail.
TTYL all
Mornin'.... Yeah, I know it is lunchy time. I'm just running a bit behind today.
Zoe, I coujld use a short stack of blueberry pancakes with real NYS maple Syrup for brunch today... Oh, yes, a pot of Marrakesh Express dark roast coffe would be nice as well....
What is that catterwahling???? Oh Galaxy is trying to sing..... Thought there was a cat fight going on outside.....
I did make it over to the Fieldhouse and walked a mile this morning. First time I have been back over there since I caught the flu a couple weeks ago. Did pretty well but started coughing on my last lap, so I figured it was time to quit. After a quick lunch I will be heading out to Webster, NY to check out the facilities for the Spring Meet. Will be discussing the state of the Petition with my Asst. Super while we are there as well. We should be getting pretty close to getting done. He should have gotten most everyone near where he is that is going to sign. Still waiting on a couplethat are snowbirds to arrive back home....
My cats are still not eating much.... They may have the "flu" as well. Blackie will only eat a bit of his canned food if I put it in a small bowl and bring it over to him... Manét does come out and eat from the regular dish, but only a little at a time.... I worry about these little guys, you know!
Catch you all later!
This morning in Snowdonia:
Sir Madog galaxy lemon tree...very pretty, and the lemon flower is sweet, but the fruit of the poor lemon is impossible to eat. I remeber that song very well, Mr. G-Man!

I remeber that song very well, Mr. G-Man!
Yes, Peter, Paul and Mary. Mary Travers has passed, but Paul Stookie and Peter Yarrow are still alive. They used to do lots of Christmas time PBS TV specials at Christmas.
They once came into the restaurant where I was a cook.
lemon tree very pretty, and the lemon flower is sweet....
Now I need to find a song about the Blood orange tree or the orange tree....
Orange tree very pretty, and the blood orange flower is so sweet, but the fruit of the poor orange tree is POSSIBLE to eat.....
And I can't sing worth a darn...ULRICh; you've heard my croaking voice...you know what i mean...lol

The set of figures has arrived today and now the little bus sports a driver and som passengers!
GM, MEN!
The contractor will be here today to do some more work. More $$$ not earmarked for TRAINS! The electrician will be here tomorrow, too, sucking more money out of me. The well is running dry on the checkbook. that WILL be about all we do for awhile. WE have to let the checkbook recover.
WE ordered a few more thngs for the house. too. Never htink you buy just a house. lol many of you know that I know.
WE will be 45% equity close to 50% shortly as soon as I send out another $5k for the mortgage due May first. It will go out Friday, so a whole month early. Then about the second week of April I will send out $2500 for extra on June's payment.
ANybody know if the "D" sticks on your laptop computer {Dell} if you have to go to the expense of replacing a keyboard or can just that key be fixed? I AM thinking of getting a new laptop..about $430. Dell. unno. Like we have money to spend, lol
Well, I got to go get ready the contractor will be here soon enough.
Ordered a compost tumbler for the garden. Its a smaller one. I am tempted to buy a mini tiller too. I think i will add boards and fill with dirt between the preformed plastic "raise bed" and the two 2x18" boxes to grow SOMETHING in. I orderd a blood orange tree to match the lemon tree...very pretty, and the lemon flower is sweet, but the fruit of the poor lemon is impossible to eat. I will order a few tropicals we like from Hawaii too for the bonus/sun room.
Going to need a LOT Of dirt.
well, i'd best ger ready don't wnat the contractor to catch me in the shower.,,,, Psycho comes to mind....
Hi all
I will have a mug of flat white and the biggest laminigton you have.
Well I am back from the big smoke after eye surgery, they had to to have two goes at it not unusual apparently, with this particular opp no I not going into the gorey details don't want to spoil peoples lunch.
Now we wait and see what kind of result we have could be a while before it is known how sucsessfull the op was.
The eye surgeon seems determined to iether drown me in eye drops or desolve the eye in them its a prety intensive program for a while and seemed fairly enthusiastic at the second time round post op check.
But I did manage to get to a hobby shop and grab a book and some trees .
Looks like I have a bit to try and catch up on.
Loco Guy I will just stick with The Tube I know what that means.
As for Subway thats a fast food chain seems to be every where so no modern layout without one I guess.
regards John
Good Morning!
We are close to being flooded! I was woken up by antedeluvian rainfall hammering against the bedroom window. It was just like a curtain of water. Right now it´s bright and sunny, but I am afraid not for long.
No plans for the day. I am waiting for a small package containing a bus driver and some seated passengers to arrive, so I can populate the bus properly. It should be in today´s mail. As I have overspent my MRRing budget the last couple of months, this is all there is for the month of April - unless I win the State Lottery (without having bought a lottery ticket). A couple of weeks ago, a bloke in Germany won the jackpot of the European lottery - $ 84 million! At 2% interest a year that would leave you with the tiny amout of $ 140,000 a month to spend !
YGW - just for you, another video of my dream layout:
Enjoy!
No other layout reflects the atmosphere of the heydays of PRR railroading better than this one, although it´s just a "toy train set".
Flo, please.
Been MIA for a few days. While I stop in two times a day to read whats is going on, just have not felt like posting.
Furnace update. After spending a hour Sunday cleaning the dang thing I gave up and called our heating guy. Pilot light would lite, gas would turn on and lite, blower would come on! Then after a few minutes it would shut off and the pilot light would be out?
Heating guy came over and re-cleaned the furnace and the dang thing works! Well I would have all most rather had something broken. Now I am $110.00 poorer and still have no idea what I did wrong?
yougottawanta Recieved the package today. There were a couple of unexpected boxes ?
YGW Did you check your PM's? I told you I thew in a few things. They where gifts from Pullman a fellow site member named Ed. He had no use for them and sent them to me for free last year. I had no use for them and I hope you can use them. I surprised you just got them, USPS said they where in your town last Saturday?
Soory to hear your ticker is still not working right! I have yet to hear from the VA about my up coming stress test. Far as lossing 60 pounds in 3 months? Remember that 6 foot rock that is where you want to build your Train Room?
Yard Wars Again on my two days off we have moving in! Well if it is raining maybe get some train work done.
Howdy .
We'll be leaving in the morning to be out of town to deal with a familiy emergency. No fun. Not sure when I will be back in the diner, but hopefully not long from now.
Everybody..... Have a good rest of the week. Don't eat too many Barry sized burgers.
