Layouts

I just had a good idea why don't people that already have their layout done or partly done show some of pics of them [:D]. I have a strange feeling that this topic isn't going to get many replies [V] .

My current layout only has a small patch of done scenery. Its mostly glue shell and WS risers showing. No ballast. And all the track hasn't even been laid.

I had a "done" 4.5' x 10' layout a few months ago. But tore it down in favor of a layout that traverses around my whole room. The space is basically a model railroad I live in and under.

I took a few photos of the old layout before dissasembly.

Dan that is a really nice layout, proves that sectional does not = bad!. The picture of the two gp7's coming around the park is my new background on my computer. Do you have any plans to weather any of your track and buildings?

I think it's a pretty good idea to share your layout on line. The problem for me is that I'm just getting started laying track AND I need to learn how to put pics on the computer. My wife should be helpful there. But my layout is going to be the boring track on homosote shots for now although I've progressed further in two years in this house than I did in 9 years in the last house. I'll see what I can embarrass myself with here in the near future.

For aggrojones; Nice layout shots. Hope to see more if you have them. Looks like you did a pretty fair job on the scenery.

This panorama is fresh from the construction zone. After a long summer of chasing trains and doing other stuff, I am kicking it into gear again. The third peninsula, on the left of the photo, is now 18' out from the wall. A trip to the lumber yard is going to be required fairly soon. The benchwork is now about 70% done.

A little bit of track has been laid along the long wall, leading away from the helix in the corner on the right.

Here is the track plan to give you an idea of how the room is laid out. There have been some minor changes.

There are more pictures at the following address:

I just started working on scenery. Here are some old photos.

The Easton & Northern branch. A drop in section completes the bridge to the right.

Here is Allentown Yard.

And the latest project, the West end branch, just under construction.

That layout don't exist no more. And I didn't take too many other photos. [V]

I'm aiming higher with the scenery on my SP&E.

Dang! I am impressed by the level of artistry on your layout, Aggro: lots of detail and a good eye for scenery. And those wonderful locomotive paint jobs...

Thanks for the compliments, most of the buildings are weathered, however I need to add updated photos to my layout page on my site. As for the track, I'm not brave enough yet due to the fact that I use DCC and it's pretty touchy when it comes to track cleanlyness.

Im not far, but here's my layout plan:

Ive made it this far:

This portion will be an elevated wye with return loop circling the top portion and crossing back above the middle:

The wye under construction is on the right:

Just completed my contol pannel woodwork. I will have two cabs, switch control and block controls with my tack diagram in center. Now off to begin wiring:

Tres cool shot. Is that the Spectrum 2-8-0 that Iain Rice bashed into an N-5a?

Andre,

Thanks, glad you like it.

That is indeed 472, which is the Bachmann 2-8-0 Iain converted into a CV N-5a for me (and for an MR article -- November or October of 2000 I believe).

Since then, I've built another engine using many of the same techniques (I used an etched brass cab, though, it was a lot easier than the way Iain did it!) based on 468, and 474 is well along.

What's the source of your etched brass cab or did you do that work yourself? There used to be company called Mellor that made etched brass parts (including cabs IIRC), but Harold Mellor died a few years back and the company no longer exists. There also used to be an outfit called Altoona Works or something like that that made etched parts, but I think they're gone too.
