Good Afternoon,

It is blustery, 38F with showers here so not really very nice.

Johnboy, yes I think I will have to save up but the first loco I want won't be out for 3 or more years. It is the CN Ten Wheeler. I also like the streamlined Northern but that is some years away. Mind you the Royal Hudson coming out in 2 years is nice but luckily for me CP engines aren't allowed on my CN tracks. I just saved $700 ! Thanks CN.

I think we have finalized the backsplash for the bathroom so the reno should be done by Christmas?

Lion, nice to hear you are literally 'on the mend'. I'll bet you would be running down the halls if there was a wildebeest at the end. I've never eaten wildebeest but I have eaten springbok and kudu. Don't really care for either but then again I'm not a lion.

Well time for something, not sure what but hopefully will figure it out after a coffee. Retirement is sometimes a challenge.

They make the LION walk up and down the halls. Him is betting better, not using pain meds, so maybe next month I will run in the marathon after all.

Afternoon Diners,

After 14 years I received my driving permit again, taking 13 tests. I'm still in a state of shock of what happened (feelings disappointed, sad, and happy.)

Whistling

G'd Morning All,

A double bowl of oatmeal, brown sugar and cinnamon for me Chloe and thin it down well so it will flow in my tube.  (Thats what I had this morning, although it was further doctored up with vitamins, protein powder and some other additives)

We woke up this morning to a skiff of that white fluffy stuff. First time this year, but it isn't supposed to stay long and Fri-Sat-Sun are slated to be real nice maybe even double didgets (Celcius)  So it should be nice for All Hallows Eve.

I did some more work on the retaining wall that will be under and behind the Elevated Station. Have about half of it done now. Will try and finish it up today before I go in for an evening shift tonight.  To the right of that retaining wall is the scene I am working on that looks somewhat like an elevated railway section, There is about 3 1/2 lengths of girder bridge that was to be held up by ME girders and parts, but that stuff really blocked off the scene behind, that I think is more important. That being flats of some local businesses and a concrete underpass picture that I took off the box cover of the Walthers kit of the same.  It goes off at about a 45 degree angle and looks really good. So I have to make some new arrangement to support the girders, maybe some concrete pilings.

It was good to hear some news from Ulrich although not very upbeat. Ray,  If you are in contact again, please send my very best regards to him and Petra.  BTW> I'm waiting to see your finished product of that bridge.  Mine won't be going into any contest.

Br. Elias,  so glad to hear that the recuperation progress is going well.   For a change, you must do as you are told.. Lol.

Galaxy,  So sorry to hear about the set back, but seeing the realator caused it, make him straighten it out.  I'd be on him like S--T on a blanket..  I'm sure it will work out for the better for you one way or the other.  Just keep smiling.

YGW,  You definately have had very drastic swings between good luck and bad the last year or so. Sure hope it settles down for you on just the good side real quick.

Garry,  That is a truly great scene for that corner, very well executed, I love the whole thing and the rock strata.  Well done my friend.

CN. Charlie,  You had better start saving right now,  have you seen the line up of Canadian Steam that Rapido is planning on putting out over the next couple of years ?   WOW.

I was also glad when Jerry checked in and to hear that business on the IS. is still doing well.

Dennis, (Vega)  did you get your car repaired yet ?  and did you get any rain ?

Dennis (choo choo Willy),  Where have you been and what have you been up to ?

A big friendly hello to all the guys who are peeking through the windows and not coming in for a double RBF.  Hi there,  Terry, Brunton, Chris, Tom x2, Paul, Chuck, just to name a few.  We look forward to hearing from you,  come on in when you get a chance.

Well, there are a few Honey Dos to get done before I have some time for the LM&E. Also have to find a pattern for this years Pumpkin that I will probably carve on Friday evening.

So I will cut this off for now.  Hope you are all doing well and enjoying the fall weather. we (well, most of us) will soon be up to our Ying Yangs in snow and I for one don't enjoy that any more. Twenty years ago I was sking and snowmobiling, but now that it is just shovelling and enduring it isn't much fun.... Thank Goodness for Model Railroading.

Howmus - That is a classic scene in Grump old men. : ) That is an intersting article. I would have thought processed meat would have included ground up meat. I wonder if turkey bacon falls in that category ?

Ken - How is the non smoking going ?

Wonder where everyone is ? Raining a lot here. Maybe all of this rain washed some of the modelerers down stream ?

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll just have 5 pieces of bacon and a pot of Marrakesh Express Dark Roast Coffee for my R&GV RR Mug.

YGW, http://www.bbc.com/news/health-34615621  and one of my favorites scenes from a movie ever!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-TrOZRHB31c The WHO is not saying don't ever eat processed meat, but limit consumption of it.

Galaxy, I would think the only red flag on the deal would be the Abstract.  If you can get a clean abstract then the other stuff can be taken care of without a problem.  If the abstract is not clean, run, run, run away!

"...It's a Rainy, Rainy Day, Jusyt a Rainy, Rainy Day..."  Currently 52°F oputside with a predictyed high of 65°F and drizzly, rain with some brief downpours going on.  We will also be under a high wind advispry from noon un til 8PM this evening.  I have a Boy Scout District Committee meeting to go to tonight...  Oh Joy!

I need to get myself moving and get some w*rk done.  Catch you all later!

Garry - Thanks. Man that is some outstanding modeling. Very nice, thanks for sharing the photo

up831 - Sent you a PM. Who would have known ? Chicago full of Poles ! In years past I worked with some WWII Vets and they told me that the Poles were some great people and some of the bravest he ever met. Pretty high compliment I thought.

Galaxy - what is "missing" abstract ? I would think the bank would be thrilled to have a contract otherwise they will only recieve 50 cents on the dollar on the house. This way they can pretty much recopup their investment plus the money thay have made on the interest already paid. I cannot imagine they would stand in the way of that. I would also think this would provide a better position to negatiate from ???But then again I am not a banker.

Well I see the dinner is still waiting for the "banker hours" to start so I will check back in later when the place is full.

Ulrich - I sure wish you would reconsider.

CGW121 ... That's good advice for people recovering from injurues.

Galaxy ... It is chanllenging to buy a house in current times. No wonder house sales rates are low.

YGW ... I hope your neck problem is identified and can be repaiered.

Below is my new scene. More detail can be added but most of the work is complete.

Good Morning Diners,

Flo, I'll have an extra large coffee with lots of cream, please.

YGW:  Polish speaking?  I live in, where else, the Chicago area.  I work in Elk Grove Village, to be more precise.  Lots of Pols in the area.  I heard that Chicago is the 2nd largest Polish population in the world behind Warsaw.

You mentioned that you have a barn that you want to "re-purpose."  You have my e-mail.  Shoot me a pdf of the plan of the empty space and describe what you want to use it for.  I'd love to help if possible.  And if you like my ideas (if I have any), then just tell your friends and associates.

Everyone:  Last evening I went downtown to a "progressive dinner" event.  It really wasn't a dinner, but it was fun and I picked up some CEUs.  My first stop was the Wolf-Sub Zero show room (where they store and cook food).  Strategic planning on my part.  The other showrooms had light snacks. Wink

Waddya know!  The little emoticon went where I wanted it to.

Galaxy:  Sorry to hear of the snag in your acquisition.  Maybe I'm ignorant, but shouldn't that have come out in disclosure?

Less is more,...more or less!

Time to get a new attorney and look for a different house. It is still a buyers market.

When I bought my house, it became a full time job for me. We love the house.

Lion

My wife is a rehab nurse and way too many people will not do the work needed to recover. Yes it is hard but keep it up. She would tell the people that your recovery is between you and God. Ones you thought would recover just gave up and didn't others recovered against all odds. Too many people have come to them after a lifetime of smoking and drinking and expect the staff to magically heal them, only to hear that there is nothing that can be done. So rejoice in the pain of your recovery. It simply means there is hope for you.

house front:

Things not going so well: Our attorney jumped  the gun without full inspeciton report and now sellers won't negotiate on the inspection issues. AND apparetnly the house was going into foreclosure when we made our offer, so now we have a foreclosure bank involved and a hang up on the "missing" abstract!

Garry wrote "YGW ... Sorry to hear about the accident. Whiplash can be nasty" Thanks Garry. Had a few saw bones doctor visits today. Had my neck xrayed. They saw nothing but something is wrong. There is grinding and popping that didnt used to be there. Go back in another week and if symptoms persist it will be off for MRI. Lower back is in pain all of the time.

Howmus what causes cancer ? Pancakes ?

Lion - how was the wildebeast I cooked up for you ?

Barry - just for the record I only described who hit me no disrespect intended. - What did you do to loose all of that weight ?

Uncle Bob !!! Really you shouldnt have - LOL

Jim - Ditto on the sentiments on Ulrich. Wish we could go get him and his other half

Brent - apologies accepted no disrespect intended just simply stating the facts.

Jim - I wish I was going through track ! That would mean I am making progress on the RR

Today the arch sent back some suggestions on the barn. Looked to contemprary to me. I want it to look like the traditional barn/workshops. Hope to submit permits next week. Then off to building and hopefully have a train room next year to start the YGW N&W Thumbs Up

Good Evening,

A dull day here with off and on showers but at least there isn't any of the dreaded white stuff falling.

Gee, what a cheery bunch here today in the Diner. Think I'll just sit quietly and sip a coffee and not express any opionions on anything. I do have them though so send me a message if you want to get into it.

I did run a train yesterday! The express reefer train did leave the station and made quite a few laps with the Pacific on the point.

No plans for tonight other than a little tellie time. There a Katherine Hepburn movie on TCM so we will likely watch it. I do like the old movies partly just to see a little how people lived and thought in those eras. I often wonder if my parents saw them. I imgine they did.

Well time to eat, so will sign off for now.

I remember The Fridge, and the Super Bowl Shuffle, and the incredible team Chicago had 30 years ago.  I can't believe they only won one title.  Karma (and the hated Niners) probably got them because Ditka let Perry score a TD, but not the greatest player in Bears history, Walter Payton.  (Sorry if you disagree, but that's my opinion.)

Germany isn't the only country looking at a potential war.  Pick a European country -- they're all in that boat, between debt problems, migrants/refugees/invaders (depending upon point of view), and Putin's decision to apply pressure everywhere because of his dream of rebuilding the USSR.  The Middle East is more of a powder keg than usual because of Syria, the Iranian nuke deal, etc. Even the US -- where do you start -- and what can be said without mods deleting the thread?  So it's not just Ulrich and Germany feeling uneasy these days.

As for me, I had a bad cold for 2+ weeks morph into laryngitis.  Nothing like it. Since reading affects your vocal cords, I should avoid reading and writing much more, so I'm headed out.  Later.

Mornin' everyone.....

Zoe, I'll have a short stack of Buckwheat Pancakes with real NYS Maple Syrup, and couple of sausage (Yes!  I know they are known to cause cancer.  I'll take my chances for the time being...), and a 30 cup pot of Marrakesh Express Dark Roast Coffee to keep my FGLK Mug full for the rest of the morning around here...

Man, this place is just doom and gloom today....  With some good reason I guess.  Barry, 400lbs. down to 143lbs.!!!  Holy Mollie!  When I graduated from Eastman School I weighed about 220lbs.  Was weight lifting and excersizing a lot.  Most of the weight was muscle.  Was lifting 550lbs. with my legs on the rack at one point.  Being fit is very important to a singer according to my Artist Teacher John Malloy.  I stayed no heavier than 230 - 235 until my wife died of leukemia.  Two years after that I tipped the scale at 320lbs.!  I was 5' 9" (now I have to stand on my tiptoes to get to 5' 8").  That is when I got Diabettes.  It has taken me well over a decade to get my weight back down to 245lbs.  I want and need to drop another 20 lbs. still.  Sure is a lot easier to gain it than to lose it!

Today is not too bad at all here in the Finger Lakes.  46°F under hazy/partly cloudy skies and going into the mid 50's.  But as Barry has said tomorrow will another matter.  Rain all day and high winds.  Maybe the leaves will get blown off the blasted maple tree next door and sunshine can hit my roof for a couple more hours each day....  I have already exceeded the total kWh from last year and could even hit the high from two years ago.  Only need about 25 more kWh in the 5 days to reach that.  Tomorrow won't help though. Whistling

Galaxy, hope the old owner of the house gets the repairs make in short order so you folks can close on the house and get moved before snow flies in these parts.

Yesterday I called the Vet to get refills for my kitties insulin.  Todat I get a call from her saying I still have 2 more refills on it....?  I called the Pharmacy and they have it ready for me and yes there were two refills left.  So???  How come it says NO Refills on the last package?  She said somebody just hit the worng button when they printed it...  Stuff happens doesn't it!  I am able to use every bit of the insulin now rather than throw away half a bottle.  So the only cost for Manét in all this is the cost of the needles...

It has been frosty in the morning for the last several days here, so the Maple tree next door is actually starting to shed leaves.  YIPPY!

Catch you all later!

Good morning,

A few days ago I had the urged to watch Burn Notice, so I decided to buy season 6 and 7 at the Target for $17. Went to Amazon to get season 1 for $12.

My brother took his girlfriend (1 month relationship) to Sedona for vacation. Yes that shock me too.

Since my dad retired his been watching Murdock Murders, Death in Paradise, and other PBS murder mysteries on Netflix. He goes to the casino twice as much because of complete boredom. Retiring at the age of 55 is driving everyone crazy and out of our minds. He says he wants to work again, but that hasn't yet. We tried to push him into a hobby but he doesn't want one.

I read about the car accident, the weight loss, and perhaps another war in Germany.

Good seeing you guys again.

LION is moving about a little better, always a little more weight on the limb, and then PT comes by and demands MORE. Well, that is what it takes. I have even been able sleep on my side for a few minutes. Ohwell, time is time and things will heal.

In the mean wild I got the Windows 10 textbook and so I will have something to read when Law and Order is not on TV.

Uncle bob: try Haband.com: some cheap clothes in the larger sizes....ASk me how I know, I am hte proverbial "short and fat" {wear 3X or 4X}. haband.com, and sister {but more expensive} blair.com. Try 'em...their clothes seem cheap, but I have not yet worn anythign out, or had but one seam on a pr of PJ top come undone. ANd I have bought a LOT of clothes from them! Cheap!

They have all manner of clothes including underwear..I buy mine from Duluth trading company, on sale at $18/pr. but I LIKE the way theirs is made. I will pay the extra fee for it since I can't squeeze into a 6 pk of FOTLs.

enough about that...

nope, no inflation here, just great prices! Forget that i pay hte same price for 4# of sugar that USED to be 5#!!!

Oh, well

we are awaiitng hte disposition of the sellers. we will see. The seller has $$ to fix tings, I know what he does for a living! He has $$ thats why they own so many houses!

well, anyway...

MAKE IT A GREAT DAY!

This afternoon I recieved an email from Ulrich.  He asked me to please convey his message to the folks in Jeffrey's Trackside Diner.  I do so verbatem and without comment..........

"Petra and I are going through  quite a  rough time, as the political and social situation is rapidly deteriorating here in Germany. We feel like being in the 1930´s at the advent of fascist rule and have to fear political persecution following my attempt to go into politics two years ago. The time has come to pack up and leave, but we do not have the means to do so nor a place to go to.

I have never felt so bad in all my life, not being able to protect my family from the harm that will inevitably come to us, rather sooner than later.

My thoughts and prayers are with my friends over at your end of the Big Pond. I sure wish better times would lie ahead of us, but I am afraid this will not be!

God bless you all!

Ulrich"

SadSadSad

I don't know what to say..but things are getting really weird there

Things are getting weird(er) here, too, but apparently nobody's supposed to notice or make any comments.  We're told, for example, that there's no inflation because gasoline prices are lower than they've been for several years, so Social Security recipients can't get more money -- yet you go to a store and have a heart attack over your grocery or clothing bill.

I'm gargantuan (6-5, 390 -- basically an NFL lineman), so I pretty much have to mail order clothes.  A few months ago, I bought a package of 3 pair of boxers for $25.  I went to buy some last week, and decided against it because they're now $25 each!! And a six-pack of plain white t-shirts that was already an exorbitant $60 is now -- I am not making this up -- $130.  Are they serious?  But no, there's no inflation. Everything is hunky-dory.  All the problems are elsewhere in the world, or they're somebody else's problem because of their culture, or they were created by the other party because our party is pure as the wind-driven slush -- I mean snow. (I'd love to go into a full-blown tirade now, but I'm sure the mods would have a cow.)  My point is, we're all in deep trouble, and NOBODY wants to admit it, or that they bear some culpability for it.  And you have to think, this is only the beginning.

Hang in there, Ulrich.

Evenin' folks....

Janie, nothing for me tonight.

Many, many people here in the Finger Lakes Region and well beyond are in mourning tonight.  Courtney Wagner, an 18 year old girl from Canandaigua, NY, a freshman at Hobart and William Smith Colleges here in Geneva, and one of the bravest young ladies anyone could know has died......

Jim.  Glad you are busy working on the layout.

Barry.  Are you aware PM's don't work anymore ?  Ever since the changes to the forum a year or two ago there have been problems.  People tell me they tried to start a conversation with me.  I check my messages and none are received. I try to start a conversation and that won't work. The message system is useless.  I've tried to change settings and that still does not help.

Rich.  LOL

I was rear ended by this 74 year old asian guy.

How come you never hear anyone say "I got rear ended by a white guy"?

What does race have to do with it?

It would be advisable if both of you refrain from getting into it on the forum...use your PM's!!!!

Please accept my apologies. I considered the statement a somewhat racist one and felt the need to respond. I also thought it went beyond what would be allowed on the forum, and seeing as how you as a moderator and /or our host did not respond to it, I appear to be in the wrong.

So once again my apologies to the forum and YGW.

Brent

Hello diners.  It has been another beautiful fall day in the SE Ohio River valley.   This is the nicest time of year in my location almost every year.  Trees are really colorful right now but the leaves are falling fast.

Train front - surprised how fast I have gone through my supply of code 83 rail.  I did a count and have already hand spiked over sixty feet of track.  That is a lot of spikes and ties.  Getting ready to order more track, ties and spikes to keep on building my layout.  Working on spiking down a couple of passing curves right now.  Not sure I added enough elevation on the outside of the curves.  Took a guess and elevated the twenty six  inch radius curves about a 1/16 inch.  Not sure how much mainline track was elevated in true prototype applications.

The diner has been fairly sparsely attended lately.  Hopefully it is because everone else is busy enjoying fall.

Heartland Division CB&Q

YGW ... Sorry to hear about the accident. Whiplash can be nasty.

Barry .... I actually thought you were not only peaking in, but grabbing food too. The kitchen here in the DIner has been runing out of good food. Smile, Wink & Grin

Ken ... I guess the good sales days balance with the bad sales days. So, no point in getting stressed on bad days.

UP838 ... I miss Ulrich too. My opinion is he should be fair to his many good friends in the forum who have should they care about him in many ways. I hope to see him here again soon.

I did no such thing...Whistling

howmus

Ulrich"
