Evenin' folks!

Janie, how about a cup of decaf to warm me up a bit.  All the trick or treaters have been here and gone....  Had about 25/30 tonight.  Up a few from last year.  Very cute little kids for the most part.  Here in town they can come between 6 and 8PM only to houses with the porch light on.  I not only had the light on, I lit and hung out 3 RR Lanterns on the porch.  Still have about half the candy I bought left.

Ray - What is all saints day ?

All Saints day?  Why that is also known as All Hallos Day.  One of the great feast days of the Church.  Even we Presbyterians and at least one of the Missionary Baptist Churches here will be celebrating it tomorrow  (The Baptist Pastor is a good friend of mine and is the President of the MLK Committee.)  He mentioned it last week at the meeting so I just had to kid him about it (What?  Baptists celebrating All Saints?).  He barbed me right back.Smile, Wink & Grin  Halloween or All Hallos Eve is of course the day before.  Kinda like Christmas Eve is the day Before Christmas...  All Saints is followed by All Souls Day (November 2nd).  More here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_Saints'_Day

No modeling for me today, but I did hear back from one of my NMRA Officers that he will do a clinic at the Meet in 3 weeks for us.  Whew!  Now everything is basically in place and I can get the info out to the membership via the next newsletter.

Tomorrow evening we will be going out to dinner to celebrate my oldest son's 49th. birthday...  He picked a Japanese Place.  Fine by me, but hopefully I can get something besides raw fish to eat.  It's right downtown, but I have never been there.  Supposed to be getting excellent reviews, so.....

[edit] Just checked the "Sunny Portal" site for my roof...  It did it!  Best October production yet!  The panels produced 288.97 kWh this October.  That is 25.8kWh more than last year and 9.81kWh over 2 years ago.  YES!  I will still be a bit down totally for this year since February was a complete wash...

Have a great night everyone!

Well today has been a strange day. Wife and oldest daughter mean as snakes this morning. Wife went off to watch Grandson to watch him play the last soccer game of the season. Glad she went she needed to get out. She was cranky ! The kids and myself installed RIP RAP along the drive way, picked up the house some...I then installed a new storm door ( pain in the back side that was. Then the kids and I carved 4 pumpkins. Then they got dressed and left me here to hand out candy - only one kid came by. I give her a BIG handful of candy, Since it was slow I decided to pop in and say Howdy and see what was going on.

V8 - 2 layers of blankets for the 60s? We are in the 40s at night here and I am still using just one blanket and sheet.

Ray - What is all saints day ?

Garry - I have never like oatmeal. Cant get past the slimy texture. Makes me think I am eating snoy - yuck !

Galaxy - Geez - you muxt be an optimist. I do not think I would be buying under those conditions. Not until she is sure who she wants to be with !

up831 - Have you sent me an email back ? Did you get mine ?

Ken - How are you doing ? Have you tried calling me ?

Turbo - Careful with the langauge even in here we have to keep it clean. Why was it so hard to change teh tire ?

We had a great Halloween party for the public at work lasr night. About 1000 showed up so there was lots of fun and action and good times.

We are invited to a party tonight but my wife just told me that we won't be going.. So thats that, I guess.

Anyway, have fun Ya All.

Mornin' and a Happy All Halos Eve to you all!

Zoe, I would like a short stack of Buckwheat Pancakes with real NYS Maple Syrup, and couple sausages, and a pot of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Raost coffee for my R&GV RR mug, Please.  I'll be right here at the Rivet Counter, Ma'am.

Garry, Yes, I'm using the Micro-Mark decals.  I have two sheets of HO ones and a sheet of "O" scale ones.  The O scale I use for large bolts on wooden bridges, etc.  I won't put the rivets in places where they can't possibly be seen, which should save some time....

Today is Clean House day here at my place.  The granddaughters should be coming over for "trick or Treat" and the place is a complete mess.  Also will be baking some fresh cookies for them (and the family).  Last Thursday was my oldest son's 49th. birthday so the family will be going out to dinner on Sunday evening to celebrate.

Best get myself moving....  Hope you have a great day, and a wonderful All Saints Day tomorrow (and All Souls Day on Monday).

Doesn't sound to Me, that it's a very sound foundation, that You are trying to build on....that's excluding Trains and layouts...first things first...gotta get Your life in order.

Good Luck, to You!

Good Morning. .... I'll have oatmeal and OJ, please.

YGW... What? You don't like oatmeal? Picky. Picky. Picky.

Fieryturbo .. (Interesting name). I hope you don't get interrupted again as you were with the tire. Maybe you'll have layout time this weekend.

Jim ... Sounds like you are handlaying track. Good. Also, sounds like your vision is a problem for working with details. I'm nearsighted, and that has been helpful to me with detail work.

Ray ... How are you doing the rivets on the bridge? I'm asking because I see Micro-Mark offering strips of rivets for models.

Galaxy. .. Glad to hear no trains are being purged. Maybe you will have room for more after you are moved in.

Happy Model Railraoding !

Evenin' folks!

Janie, I could use a refill for my decaf please...  Need something to warm me up.

It is currently 33°F outside and will be a light freeze overnight.

I was busy with the rivit decals down cellar tonight when my sister called with some news.  Not only is the outdoor kitty still around but a neighbor down the strret told her he has made a little nest in his small barn back of his house and wants him out of there.  So over the past couple of days the guy trapped him  and the poor little kitty went berserk!  My sister went over to the guys house today and the cat let her pick him up and put him in her cat carrier.  She then took him to the vet for a check up, shots and such.  She found out (just as we thought) the cat was owned by someone who dropped it in the neighborhood.  Cat had already been neutered and was not scared at all at the vet.  He is now settled down indoors at my sister's house with her other cat Claude who doesn't seem to mind him at all.  When she called the new cat was curled up on the couch right beside my sister snuggled in next to her.  Both the cat and my sister are very happy tonight!  I think he too will be a 100% indoor kitty.  He has been inside all afternoon and evening and has not wanted to outside.  He has already found and used the litterbox so he is housetrained.  Definitely a house cat.

I had to go downtown to buy stamps for the scholarship mailing so took a side trip and stopped at the Medical Equipment place.  The loaner for my CPAP had come in, somebody put it it in the storeroom and the manager checked some records, scratched his head, and said, let me go look...  Came back with one of those looks on his face (like somebody is going to hear about this!) and said, "Yep, it's right on the shelf in the storage room."  I went and bought stamps, came back home and unhooked my old unit, and swapped with the one they had.  I'll see how it works tonight.  Will be at least 2 weeks before I get mine back, hopefully repaired.

I have spent a couple hours each day for the last two days putting rivits on the bridge section I have assembled....  Got to use a lot of bad words, I did.  Do you know how many rivits there are on a Girder Bridge???  I haven't even finished one side of one of the girders yet...  About 1/5th done with this half.....  I put a photo of what I have so far in WPF.

Have a great night and I will keep those who need them in my prayers.

Good evening.  It has been a cloudy but dry day in SE Ohio.  Today's weather is more normal than the past week with its clear skies and nice warm temperatures.

Train front- continuing to spike down track but have gotten to the point where I have to move the layout into its planned final location this weekend.  Stained up more ties so I can finish up to the edge of the current bench work.  Plan on heading to Lowes in the morning to buy more 1x3's to build more bench work and keep working on the planned layout.  Waiting for my new magnifier to arrive so I can get back to kit building.  Finally have to accept that the vision is just not as good as it used to be.

Lion, hope your healing continues to progress and you can return back to the ND subway to hunt down those wildebeast.

Galaxy, hope your closing continues to progress.  Getting sellers to fix stuff is often the most frustrating part of buying a house.  They usually know they should have fixed stuff years ago but always put it off.

Ken, your brush pile was impressive.  It must be nice living somewhere where someone else will haul brush away.  Where I live, you have to haul it away yourself or pay someone to haul it as the trash contractor does not do brush.  We do have a local nursuery that runs a compost farm where you can take brush for disposal.  Hope business has been good for you this week.

Well, it is about time to head out on my daily mile walk.  The month is rapidly coming to a close and the diner will be moving on soon.

As I got in the car last night, I had thoughts of putting together the next module for my layout that evening.  Little did I know that I had a flat tire, which showed itself a moment later when the light went on.

I sat there for an hour in the parking lot trying to get the spare on, and when I finally did, it was 5:30 and my arm hurt like hell from the jack and the low clearance (2010 Dodge Challenger).

I went home, took a back and body pill, took a nap and woke up 3 hours later, felt better, but then the evening was gone.

Sigh.

Galaxy, hang in there!  I think it will all work out in your favor.  My late wife worked for a year and a half at an Abstract Company.  There is a lot of research that has to go into getting that done and it can take a couple months to get it completed.  She used to sneak home some very interesting copies of documents from there.  Some were done in some very unusual forms of "formal" script from way back in the 1700's and take a while to figure out.  There was one that showed a portion of the will of a man whose last name was Hogg.  He left his farm to his three children....  (swear on a stack of bibles this is true) are you ready for this?  Their names were:  Imma, Heza, and Yurra!  I also had a sweet little girl in class when I taught at Chemung School way back when.  Her name was Penny Nichols.  I used to call her Six Cents...

My Lay minister at the church I grew up in was last named Cash..so nautrally they named his daughter "Penny".. That is old old trick. But gets better...GUESS what job she took???? A Bank Teller!

with my real last name, it is a Famous USA name of old, appearing on a certain paper money bill we use all the time. My mother always thought she'd name her frist son "X", but when she married my father, she realized it WOULD be  that famous name on a certian bill, and decided she COULD NOT do that me~! {just like wanting to name a child Abraham, but marrying a Lincoln, and NOT wanting the child to thusly be "Abraham Lincoln"....hee hee. I always said it'd make a great bar game to win money form people...to say "I'll bet you $10 or $20 my name is on your money! Then whip out my D/L to prove my name is on a bill!! and taking candy {money} form a baby!

oh well...

waiting for a call form our attorney.... now we are waiting again.... and again...

for the abstract and improvements the sellers will make...

I can see the abstract now..."fromme Ye olde Oake tree out yonder two chains length fromme ye olde river susquehanna, two and a half goat's lengths henceforthe fromme ye olde patche of milketh-weedes, neareth to the naturalle bee hives on ye old stande of ye olde Maple trees...due east for two yardes fromme olde manne Farmer Winter's hut in the grovee nearer thee to the berrie bushes oute yonder..."

Well, Id best check on the laundry..

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a couple of eggs over easy, a couple peices of the sour dough toast, and a pot of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast Coffee in my R&GV RR Mug this morning.

Ken, please accept my appologies.  I did not mean to offend, but was just having a bit of fun at your expense.  Mea Culpa!  There are some times in my life (A long time ago) that I wished someone would have taken my keys and called me a cab!  I did make it home safely, but I was very lucky....  I do wish you all the luck in the world in kicking those habits!

Just got off the phone from ordering my CPAP supplies for the next 3 months.  Talking with anyone from a Corporate Office on the telephone is always fun when you are legally deaf.  I need to check with their local office to see what is going on with the replacement for my main part of the CPAP machine today...  It should have been in by now.

I have to get a couple hundred envelopes perinted up today for the annual MLK Scholarship Fund Drive, so I best get moving...  See you all later!

Good morning, Diners !

Todd! ... It's good to see you!... I have wondered where you were. Thanks for commenting about the photo in MR. I am very happy it is published.

Speaking of that photo. You will note the junk yard is named after my model railroad friend (Reggie) from Illinois. He and his wife will be visiting us here at the lake in a few days.

Edit: ... I should have heard the roar as I was typing. .. Lion, I hope your injury continues to heel. It sounds like it was nasty. ... Do lions say "Ouch!" ? ...

A certain LION of our acquaintance is sitting here, waiting for breakfast, probably oatmeal again, but then LIONS like oatmeal. It is mushy like wildebeest guts.

Him would have more to say if him would have more to do. Sasha, our wonderful Ukrainian PT lady suggests that a week from today I should be ready to go home. The Abbey is already pulling on my chain trying to get me back home sooner. But it was a major big leg bone that I broke, and the doctor had to cut open some major big mussels to get at it. So mussel and bone bust both heal.

Oh well, I hear breakyfaste calling.

Gooooood Morning!!!

Coffee, 2 eggs over medium, couple slices of thick Applewood bacon and some hashbrowns with onion please, thank you.

Just got around to looking through the November issue of MR and I see an awfully familiar photo! Congrats Garry!!!

Sad when you sign in for the first time in awhile and see where someone has passed. My condolences to the Sperandoes.

Welp, nothing much going on really other than the same ole’ same ole’. Harvest is over and “Boo on the Boulevard” was a success. Now if I can get through Halloween night I’ll be ready to gear up for Thanksgiving. Then on to….well let’s not get ahead of ourselves here. Life goes too fast as it is.

Just glanced through the month and all seemed as good as can be expected. HowEVEEEER, my prayers go out to Br Elias on his healing. Sorry to hear of the injury, but glad you are healing well. Keep it up.
And to Galaxy, hope the house works out.
And of course Ken, I’m not gonna preach to you about smoking, I was a smoker too. I quit a little over two years ago and it took me 5 months to kick the habit. Yup, you can quit cold turkey, some can and could, others can’t. Just like some people can dismiss/ignore things people say and do and….others can’t and some I swear just look for something in what is said. People are different. Now, I should not advocate this method because some "in the know" have said it is not the "right way" or more so is "the wrong way" of doing it for a plethora of reasons, but I offer it as a suggestion. So, those who have an opinion as to why this should not be used, yes, yes, I've heard them all. I'm fully aware it was not designed as a stop smoking device, and I know all the downs to it but...., it worked for me. I used an electronic cigarette. I know the substitution pitfall, but the patch/gum/sugar free candy is substituting too so.... Anyway. The kind I used was…well to not advertise, the brand was a color..... A Pretty color..... The color of the skyWhistling. Kinda. It had flavor cartridges you could buy and in varying levels of nicotine working it’s way down much like the patch does, down to zero nicotine. I had to order the zero. My issue was habit. The electronic cig gave me the ability to give into my habit, while the nicotine left me. Then all I had to do was break the habit and I tell you what. The habit was and still is, the hardest thing to do for me. I still think about lighting up, but it is real easy to just say no and yes, there have been some stressfull deal breaking events that could have drove me back to smoking BUT….didn’t. I like not smoking, never liked it actually, but I must say for me, having the “fake” cigarette helped those first couple weeks while the physical addiction left. But those last 4+ months of the psychological was rough. That was back when you could use a elect cig in smoking places, but I didn't I still followed all the rules as if it were a real cig. I just cut back and eventually it became I just don't want to do it anymore and I didn't buy another pack of flavor things. What I'm the most glad about is, it doesn’t bother me to be around smokers even when they are smoking, and no my sense of smell did not return with a vengeance so I can smell cig smoke across the room making me nauseated nor do I get a craving, nor does food taste so much better so I didn’t gain too much weight from substituting food for smokes. I did gain some weight of course because metabolism slows down, but a bit more exercise would take care of that Good luck, it’s worth it. Smoke free is worth it even if it's just to be free of eye shots.YesStick out tongue

Prayers for those in need.

Good Morning Diners,

Flo, my usual extra large coffee with lots of cream, please.

YGW:  Sent you an e-mail.

Had the opportunity to go to he main warehouse where our cabinet line is housed and assembled.  FYI: long gone are the days where kitchen cabinets are built from scratch onsite.  Anyway, it was interesting.  Then I found out the real reason for the invite was the showroom mgr had one more cabinet than he could fit in his car so he volunteered mine to take the extra cabinet back to the showroom.  Hmmmm!  Oh well, it was still interesting.

Winter is coming on soon and it got me to thinking about that 2x4 N scale plan that Ulrich was kind enough to design for me.  Hope I have time to get started on it this year.

I hope everyone is OK and safe.

Less is more,...more or less!

well: foreclosure is what the sellers bought it as, so the abstract is missing, that is how foreclosure got into it. the sellers paid cash for it, no abstract, so now one must be constructed.

Second they may be willing to do SOME repairs, and we only listed 11 we really want addressed that are pressing 'health and safety' issues. they may fix about 75% of them, our attorney is looking into it for us, we should have an answer by tomorrow.

we will see...

dunno

 Evening Dinners

Flo, Beer please. (It is my day off so no stuff)

Reason I have not been around, well there is a couple.

1 Life has been pretty boring and nothing really to talk about.

2 I have felt like I have been criticzed about a few things. Drinking and smoking. While I know no harm is meant, but the comment about Ken has been drinking take his cars keys bit me in the caboose! I know it was in fun, but struck me the wrong way.

Smoking, again the helpful hint's like One is to much, just don't smoke and so forth just hits a never for some reason. I know you folks are right, I just have to deal with it my own way.

Yard Wars Well they took my big pile from the front yard the other day. So I started another one! Big Smile I am all most to the point I can walk around the pool again. Then I will start cleaning out the swamp grass from the pool so I can get it covred. Still a long ways to go.

Galaxy How much would it cost to fix the things and could it be rolled in the loan? If it really the house for you (basment) it might be worth it.

YGW When would be a good time to talk on the phone? I think it is time for the PCM Big Boy to find a new home. I need some money to use on my 68 Raod Runner.

Train Front Went all B&O tonight and I still love the SD 7 and SD 8 and they are pulling very nicely. Dragging 45 coal cars.

 Later, Ken

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a large bowl of Heritage Granola Organic Cereal and a pot of Marrakesh Express Dark Roast Coffee to start the day.

Currently 51°F outside with the sun temporarily shining...  The Weather Channel website says it is cloudy.  The tree next door is losing leaves but has a long way to go, so most of the sun is wasted right at the moment at least for my solar panels.  It is getting better though.  Need to make 16 kWh of electric to set a new record for October with the panels...  Will it happen?  We shall see!  May come close, but I don't think it will happen.

Whoe......  Was that a wildabeast I just saw run by the diner???  Oh, there is a limping Lion hobbling by now.  Think the wildabeats is still safe for the moment....  Glad to hear the therapy is going well for you Lion!

Galaxy, hope the day goes well for you on all accounts!!!

Today could get , ah....  Interesting, I guess is the best term for it.  I will be meeting about a problem that has cropped up with one of my units with the people at the top of the Boy Scout Council and the District Key Three tonight.  I do no not know what the outcome for the unit will be...  Can't share anything more than that.  Right after that I have a committee Meeting for one of my other units.

I think I will spend much of the day putting rivets in proper places on the first half of the Girder Bridge...  Do you have any idea how many rivets there are on a grider bridge???  Talk about tedious!

Oh!  BTW, Happy National Cat Day...  Here is old Shiela (the Tiger) and Manét back in about 2008:

And of course Blackie sticking out his tongue at you:

Catch you all later!

Ray Seneca Lake, Ontario, and Western R.R. (S.L.O.&W.) in HO

We'll get there sooner or later!

Another word for those who have missed them:

rectitude

PRONUNCIATION:

MEANING:
noun:
1. Moral uprightness.
2. Correctness.
3. Straightness.

ETYMOLOGY:
From Latin rectus (right, straight). Ultimately from the Indo-European root reg- (to move in a straight line, to lead or rule) that also gave us regime, direct, rectangle, erect, alert, source, surge, recto, abrogate, arrogate, incorrigible, interregnum, prorogue, regent, regnant, and supererogatory. Earliest documented use: 1425.

USAGE:

Manohar has maintained an image of rectitude and financial probity that in today’s age can be seen as a modern marvel.”

Word:

probity

PRONUNCIATION:
(PRO-bi-tee) http://wordsmith.org/words/probity.mp3

MEANING:
noun: Integrity and honesty.

ETYMOLOGY:
From Latin probus (upright, good). Ultimately from the Indo-European root per- (forward), which also gave us paramount, prime, proton, prow, German Frau (woman), and Hindi purana (old). Earliest documented use: 1425.

USAGE:

Mark Steel recalled ... rifling through his grandfather’s text-books for salacious descriptions of murders and adultery. His early trust in the probity of the police and the judiciary was later to be shaken from its foundations, and he offered some robust statements of his disgust that police officers are rarely prosecuted for fabricating or manipulating evidence.”

CNCharlie

Good Afternoon,

It is blustery, 38F with showers here so not really very nice.

Johnboy, yes I think I will have to save up but the first loco I want won't be out for 3 or more years. It is the CN Ten Wheeler. I also like the streamlined Northern but that is some years away. Mind you the Royal Hudson coming out in 2 years is nice but luckily for me CP engines aren't allowed on my CN tracks. I just saved $700 ! Thanks CN.

I think we have finalized the backsplash for the bathroom so the reno should be done by Christmas?

Lion, nice to hear you are literally 'on the mend'. I'll bet you would be running down the halls if there was a wildebeest at the end. I've never eaten wildebeest but I have eaten springbok and kudu. Don't really care for either but then again I'm not a lion.

Well time for something, not sure what but hopefully will figure it out after a coffee. Retirement is sometimes a challenge.

CN Charlie

Try adopting your 2 year old grand daughter if you want to stay busy. There is never a dull moment here.
