Somebody a couple days ago asked about TV at my house??? Well.... Yep, done got a TV for those rare times when it would be nice to have an idiot box out there. I bought a ROKU equiped 43" Sharp Smart LED one. Actually had to get two as the first one was a dud. My son came over to get the wooden frame that I used for firewood on Sunday and while he was here helped me set up the Wii. When everything was set, I turnied on the TV and all we got was a bunch of large blue bloobs and sone jagged yellow lines going all over the place... So I gathered up all the parts, wrappings, and other stuff that came with it and put it back in the box to go have a return arguement with the folks at Best Buy. I drove back over to Victor, walked in the store and went back to the kiosk where I purchased it. The lady working took my reciept, appologized I had trouble, and asked if I want to get a refund or a new one. I told her that I would like a new one, preferably one that works... They even put it in the back of the PiP for me (lots and lots of room back there). Darn, I was looking forward to having an argument! (actually very relieved and surprised).
Had a friend come over and help me this time. Put the feet on it, plugged it in, and turned it on. Found myself at the screen to sign up for ROKU. After several runs back and forth from the living room to my main computer (could have used the laptop but didn't) I was fianlly all signed up, had read (and printed out) the 53 page agreement saying simply that I have no rights whatsoever and if there is any problems it isn't their fault. Turned everything on and actually watched a few minutes of a "piece of crap, so called, reality show" on the History Channel (they don't seem to really have anything relating to History on there anymore I guess) to make sure it actually does work as it should.
Antoine, welcome! I wonder how much the use of rubber tires lowers efficiency?
Spent the morning at a Medical Insurance meeting for Retirees of the School System explaining the choices we now have for our insurance. Haven't seen that many "old" people in one place in ages.....

Good day, all. It's hockey night, so I'm taking it easy, just doing some light shopping and computer stuff. Tonight is our annual Tuesday Night Hockey "clambake," which has nothing to do with steamers, littlenecks or other mollusks. Someone arranges for a couple of young ladies to drop by after the game and, uh, well, disrobe.
It's a social event, so I've picked up a bunch of extra food - salami, cheese, pepperoni, rolls, salsa, chips and so on. I'm not supplying this bunch with beer, but I will have a few myself and I'll have some extras on hand for those who forget.

Ulrich, I've had a couple of Adobe Acrobat updates lately, and my anti-virus wanted me to reboot my computer this morning. I've also seen odd behavior on YouTube, even after all this. Sit tight. Sometimes, the problem is not at your end.

When I first bought this house I remember sitting on the back patio looking at the pool with the fountain going and thinking "I cannot believe this is my back yard!" Now I step out and think the same thing!

YGW: Hello and good morning. I bet you could find the electricians fairly quickly. They were probably all at Mr. B's after game party....drinking everyone else's beer!
Galaxy: Yeah, sometimes codes can be a small hassle, but they are there for our safety and protection. One of the case studies for NFPA was the case in New York or New England where over 100 women factory workers were killed in a factory fire because there were either no or not enough fire escapes or clear paths of egress for them to exit the building. Sorry, it's been long enough since I studied this that the details are a little vague. I could go on, but you get the idea.

After hours of blood, sweat and tears, my computer is up and running again! I had to make a complete reset and re-install everything anew. The only part yet missing is my dear old track planning program - I just can´t find the installation disc .
I am glad to be online again!

I had dental surgery today and my mouth feels like about 50 miles of bad road. Man I hate going to the dentist! But I like teeth more then I hate going to the dentist so the dentist always wins...no fair.
Sorry to hear of other folks aches, pains, and health woes. Remember fellas it's not the years that hurt but the mileage. Hope everyone gets quickly back on track (pun intended) soon.
I plan on working on some structures later tonight and then just sitting back and running some trains. Nothing too stellar.

This day off did not go the way I wanted. Spent a hour at Hanger Clinic to get my new shoes refitted. The left one had caused a new open sore and I had never had a problem with the left foot. It is very small and not a worry at this point. Andy made some adjustments to the inserts of the shoes and they feel better now.
I all so went to the libary, ran to St Louis, Vet for Sparkie The Rocket Dog Heart Guard, dumped the trash, made the house payment and went to Shop And Save. I did not get home till 5:30 PM. By that time it was time to BBQ some chicken quarters, excpet I ran out of propane after 20 minutes. So I have sent the wife after a which still works for me! I will have to finish the BBQ after work Thursday.

nice day out today, got home from work with having intentions of cutting the grass but just didn't feel like it, I'm off tomorrow and Friday so am going to do the lawn cleaning tomorrow and maybe spend the afternoon shooting around some hockey pucks. I have been taking a break from the model railroad lately.
its been very damp lately and the humidity is the basement is around 50 percent and saw one of those silverfish bugs. I hate those things with a passion. no other bug bothers me except those quick little buggers. I fall asleep most nights on the couch grosses me out thinking there around, lol

Yesterday was a slow day here! The girls didn´t not have much to do, other than twiddling thumbs. I hope this will improve today!
Today´s video shows the annual steam race on the Black Forest line on the 6th of January. The line is closed for a couple of hours, so two steam trains can race each other side by side. The cold weather on that date is a guarantee for some spectacular smoke!

Getting closer to anniversary weekend starting tomorrow. We/I still haven't decided what to do, or at least which order to do it. MOH and I discussed briefly yesterday after work. Festa Italia is this weekend in Milwaukee. Checked it out a little on the net last evening. Neither one of us is the least bit Italian, but it might be fun. However, the food aspect of it would be minimal since I stopped eating wheat a year ago. Well, anyway one looks at it, we'll have to decide tonight.
BTW if one is interested, Milwaukee has a very nice art museum on the lake front. Just the structure itself is worth seeing if one is in the area. Very avant garde architecturally.

Zoe, I'll have a short stack of blueberry pancakes with real NYS Maple Syrup, a couple sausage links, and a large pot of Marrakesh Express dark roast coffee this morning.
Spent all day out at the Boy Scout camp yesterday. Didn't get home until fairly late so I didn't stop by here. Had a great day out there with the troop. Everything has been going well except for one of the younger scouts who doesn't seem to get the concept of "Buddy System" and planned schedule. Three times yesterday he took off on his own without a buddy and went to some other area than what he was supposed to be at... He was supposed to earn his "Tote and Chip" (license to carry and use woods tools, pocket knife, etc) but decided instead to go on the 5 mile hike after lunch. He also doesn't have good fitting shoes and has a blister on his foot.... So he goes on the hike. Yep! He did that without letting any of the Adult Leaders know. The Scoutmaster was planning on a long chat with the lad after all the "guests" left. Last night was an in campsite picnic for supper and most of the parents came down to camp for it.
Today I have about 3 more things that have to get done more than I will be able to get done during the day, so I need to finish my coffee and get busy. Catch you all later!

Ulrich and others, I know we are in Germany this month and I am enjoying your videos very much. But I ran across this one and enjoyed it as well. It is of the trains from Milan to Zurich and I think you will find them enjoyable too. Also what a great example of the different shapes and colors of conifers. and wonderful scenery, Try modelling that. Also some nice street running and notice how smooth and perfect the street surfaces are.

On the LM&E, last evening I changed out a truss bridge on the Branchline that I couldn't get my RDC through because of a curve on either side of it. Changed the style of the bridge and a few little touch ups and we now have RDC service through there uninterupted.>>>Changes are good<<<

The Bernina line is actually my alltime favorite railroad. I wish I had the space and the funds to have a layout. Bemo of Germany makes all the locos, electric railcars and cars you need to model this line, HR Modellbau of Switzerland offers kits of some of the station buildings, Sommerfeldt does the catenary and Micro-Scale of Switzerland the appropriate signals ...
You need to rob a bank before you can start to build a Bernina line layout, though!

It was all I could do sitting at my trailer office desk to keep from shouting and making train sounds !!!Man I loved the shot 17 minutes in when the train went through the field of snow - BEAUTIFUL - Oh and at 19 minutes in the bank the track sat on man that was STEEP !! How do they keep that from failing ? Here the steepest we dare go is 1 to1 or 45 degrees ! And the last shots looks like it was shot from around my home with the rolling landscape and low mountains - Oh yea - after that video I can face the rest of the day...
Well another day in paradise. City inspector chewed me up one side and down the other for a mistake the plumber made. Still no sign of the electricians. Had to fire a group of concrete finishers for drinking on the job. Really hated to have to do that, they were good men even though they were knuckle heads for popping cold ones on site. I had to laugh at one he actually said " I only had four today" Geez I wonder how many the others had ? By the amount of empties it must have been a bunch.

YGW: we live in 832 sqft! I have trouble sometimes keeping up with it! let alone 3.5-5K sq ft...whew! I'd need a maid...also I don't do over 1 story....a ranch is my speed!
I also won't probably ever in my life think aobut a 1 or 2 million dollar house.. I am looking aat under 100K here...and closer to 50K is nicer, at about 1k sqft if lucky.
No wonder you have such troubles, if they all drink on site! Maybe they do their best work under the influence ...

PS. i do far better at speaking a language than I do at reading/writting it...I know a few, but the thing is, If I try to say something only in one language, a sentence might come with words from several languages!!!
well, my gut is still wreaking havoc on me. but I do feel better than yesterday...BUT, on monday every thing went right through me, tuesday was OK, yesterday everything went right through me, todya i am so far OK...I think,but i havee intense pain...I see the doctor on Monday... he will probably tell me I have an intestinal bug, and will probably give me antibiotics...

Did some routine maintenance on the layout lastnight and earlier today. Finely got my PA1 cleaned inside and out. I use it to haul my "what if" tourist train around my layout. It was getting a little noisy for my liking so it was time to send her over to the shops for an overhaul. Shes purring like a cat now...well like an Alco (LOL). The B unit is still in the shops. I plan on continuing to work on structures and scenery later today.
