Good morning Diners.... Coffee and a doughnut, please.

Galaxy and I found out I could post in an old PM thread, and it gets delivered. I still can't send a new PM, and evidently new PM's don't get to me.

I can't figure out why my settings don't allow new PM threads.

Today, I am planning on working on the layout. I will take a break from working on taxes.

Hmmm, do healing energies work for Uncle Bob's furnace?  Nope.  If it's an oil burner and it kicks off after 15 seconds after trying to start, chances are there's a problem with the fuel feed or the igniter.  It's not going to fix itself, but it's probably a small part.  We have a service contract with our oil company, so stuff like that is covered.  Even if you don't, it's not a do-it-yourself repair.  Make the call.  It's cheaper than frozen pipes or pneumonia.

Oh, Monday.  The "bah" factor is gone now that I'm retired.  With my wife out of town, I don't watch any live TV at all, so I lose track of days.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a short stack of buckwheat pancakes with real NYS Maple Syrup and a pot of Marrakesh Express Dark Roast Coffee please.

Galaxy, hope you get feeling more normal soon.  I have still got some pain in my right shoujlder.  I think it would go away if I could actually get to sleep lying on my left side....  Once I do fall asleep, I generally don't change positions until Blackie hops up on the bed and comes over to play with my CPAP.

My son should be calling me soon.  He promised that he would come over and help me move the 100 gal. aquarium into the dining room.  No way I could move that by myself.  Once that is done I can start to move and clean a bit in there.  Still waiting to hear back from the Contractor to get an estimate.  If I haven't heard in a couple more days I will email him again.  His business is very busy and he gets tied up with things so I will give him a bit of room on the time issue.  Once he does set a date for the work, he will be here with his crew right on time!

I am going to try to get done with all the paper side of the tax stuff today.  Get all the file folders sorted out and then get the stuff stored down cellar.  Filed all my tax returns a week ago.  Will get a bit back from the Federal and will owe both NYS and WI a few bucks.  Anyway once that is all done, I can remove and store one of the leafs from the dinig room table which will give me more room in the dinigroom/office to oput all the living room stuff.  Found out the electronic recycling place in town is closed until further notice.  The original local company got bought out by a large recycling company (big improvement they said) based in the UK.  That company just suddenly stopped paying salaries (nobody knows why) and then renigged ojn the rent for the building.  So the city finally out a lock on the door and the closed signs up.  Once again, the bigger the Corporation the more likey they are to not care about people!  OK, Vinnie, I won't say any more......

Best get back to w*rk.  Later!

Italian Roast coffee in a Barnwell & Searchlight Railway mug, please.

***CN Charlie, did you use insulated UniJoiners between those 10' sections? What type of Unitrack switches did you use? I've planned on using manual #6 switches. On the old layouts, I never bothered with the turnout control switches and always ended up just doing them by hand. Figured I'll save some money this time around and just go with manual from the start.Smile

***Ray, my cats leave the cpap alone, but Millie Kitty still wants to settle on my chest and massage my beard.Laugh Sad part is, even the weight of a cat on my chest sometimes makes it hard to breathe. Glad your son is going to give you a hand.

The heat pump guy still can't make it out here. Looks like Weds now. So, I'll continue with the two space heaters for this side of the house. Glad not to be battling the temps Uncle_Bob is dealing with. Yikes!

Have watched some really interesting vids of trains rolling over very bad tracks. I doubt model trains could pull off some of what the full scale trains do.

Healing thoughts to those in need.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

Garry - Oh thats right that season is approaching fast. I am dreading this year I think I may end up having to pay.

Rob - Isnt that amazing how bad some track is. I have seen video that I would bet donuts to dollars that the train would derail if it ran cross some of those noodled tracks. But it doesnt. Just wobbles and twist and runs on through !!!

Galaxy - Hop your shoulder gives some relief today. Taking any pain meds

Uncle bob - Here is a quick wy to settle the discussion. Take a thermoter and stick it in the either the supply or return vent and read it after an hour or so. The reading should be with in 5 degrees of the temp. setting. If it is lower than that there is a problem.

Lots of frozen rain and sleet out my yesterday. Went out to start the truck this morning and just standing in my driveway I was sliding down hill ! The wethermen are calling for more tomorrow after noon. I think I will head home early and try to beat the tangled messes of wrecks and back ups.

Welp down to one more BBall game for the girls season ( yhea !!) which has been about two and half months long and then onto some more RR modeling and me time. Except of course the honey do list which I have to catch up on. Sad

Good Afternoon,

A balmy -6C and sunny here today.

Rob, I use DCC so no insulated rail joiners were used on the layout except for the engine service yard so I can cut the power to the whole yard. I have powered #6, manual #4 and powered #4 turnouts. Note that the powered and unpowered #4s are not the same at all. The construction is different. You can add power control to the manual turnouts by purchasing a seperate unit. Any other questions, you only have to ask as I would be happy to help if I can.

Cud cuds {don't ask...he comes to it} will not bother the cpap, but what he does do is I lay on my left side, adn he climbs on top my right hip.lays down there and will fall asleep there, until I move, or he gets to warm, apparently!

Ok Ok, OK<  since you asked his name is cuddles, and one day I could not get his attention whne I wanted him, so I said "come here cud cuds"..he came running, so it stuck...he hardly ever answeres to cuddles, but cuds or cud cuds he will!

Coffee refill, please.

***C.N. Charlie, with DCC, do all those feeds simply hook up to a central line under the layout? With the new layout having much more trackage, I suppose it will need to have the extra feeds. Still plan on using the basic Digitrax system I already have. Wonder if it will be enough or require a booster of some sort?

***Galaxy, hope all goes well for you.

Back to resting and watching train vids, until it's time for evening critter rounds.

Rob, yes the feeders connect to the bus under the table. Unless your planned layout is very large or you plan on running many locos at the same time, I would think your Zephyr should be adequate.

Well not much happening here on the RR front. I  haven't done a thing on either layout for a couple of months now. I have a few power/telephone poles sitting on the workbench, all painted but haven't got around to gluing on the crossarms. I just can't seem to get into doing much this winter. I haven't done a thing on the N scale layout since I finished ballasting the track in November. I have been trying to sort out some running issues with a couple of N scale locos and have had a little success. I am waiting for a new truck from Atlas to fix a RS10. Those N scale gears are just too small to try any sort of fix.

Nothing planned for this evening so might actually try running trains, or maybe not.

Hi Gang: Would someone explain to me how to make a post with out doing a reply?

As I said awhile back this new format has me buged.

I've been spending the last week trying to remember what I did with a box of passanger cars, Varney diesels, and some other stuff after I rearranged the basement. Yes! Old age strikes again.

Other then that I've been working on the Milwaukee Roads Everet street depot. It is not a snap together kit. I set the train shed roof trusses in place and that really looked nice. When it's finished it's going to be something.

Time to head out and to the basement. Hanging around here isn't going to get the depot finished, or any of the other 1000 and 1 other projects.

You know, all these years of occasionally visiting this place and the whole time I thought this was a Dining Car on a train and not a simple restaurant!  Anyone can go to a restaurant!  What's railroady about that?

Good evening all you wonderful Diners,

Ok, admittedly, that might be a bit of a stretch, but hey, why not?

Flo, I'll have my usual extra gigante cup of coffee with abundantly generous amounts of cream, please.

NP2626:  if it'll help, in my home town there's a little hole in the wall cafe that is (or maybe was) just across the tracks from the towns main depot.  I think it was called the Union Station Cafe.  It was a gathering place for locals and in later years a late night munchies stop for local college students after the local bars closed for the night.  It had a few booths and tables and would fit the definition of a stereotypical greasy spoon.  There are little cafes in small towns all over the country like this.  Does that not describe the comradery among the diners here?

Nothing to report tonight train wise.

i hope everyone is OK, safe, and warm.

Less is more,...more or less!

Mint tea. please.

I have always thought of this Diner as a rail Diner car and I always will think of it as such. After all, have we not been hooking up locos to it and carting it to the next months location? My two cents worth.

Have a good night all.

UP831, I live in one of those small towns.  In fact I get together for breakfast with some buddies at one of the types of Cafes you describe.  Although the tracks coming to town where pulled up more than thirty years ago, the cafe I frequent is called the Great Northern Cafe and was actually alongside the G.N.'s right of way when it came to town.  In my opinion the food there is very good and reasonably priced and the motif is railroad antiques.

So, I can relate exactly to what your saying, although the building was never a dining car.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a decaf for me as usual.

NP2626, but of course this is the dining car!  Gets moved to a fresh location everty month.  Pulled by some of the finest lcomotives ever built it is!  I even got permission to virtually borrow this beauty one time to do the honors!  http://www.rgvrrm.org/about/railroad/lv211/index.htm

We probably should get back in the habit of letting folks know where the location is every month.  I believe this month we are near Hamburg Germany in honor of our member and dear friend Ulrich.

OK, I have had one of those days.  Tried to get in touch with the person who is scheduling someone to come over to look at the damage and get a dollar figure for what needs to be done here.  The call came in yesterday from a cell phone registered in Kentucky!  Needless to say i didn't call back until I was able to ID the number and make sure it is not a scam.  My son came over today and finally was able to figure out that it was some lady trying to schedule an appointment for the adjuster...  I called the number she gave me (a completely different number but still in Kentucky...) and the call went to a voice mail at another completely different number from what the voice mail said.  I hung up!  Sent an email to my Insurance Customer Service person here in town!  She emailed me back and said come on over, i'll take care of everything for you.  I got in the PiP and drove the two blocks over to the office.  Walked in and she said, "Come on over here and we will see what is going on."  45 minutes later she had gotten exactly the same run around I got....  She, at least, now knows what the customer goes through with that insurance company!  She ended up leaving 3 voice mails and said she will get an appointment made for the person to come to my house.  I left her a copy of my schedule for the month so far so she will only have to do this once.  Nice to talk face to face with a human being sometimes!

I got the 100 gal. aquarium moved out of the living room today and into the dining room.  It hasn't had fish in it for 5 years so it wasn't a bad job for my son and I.  Still have to find a place for the 20 gal. one that does have two very old and frail bottom feeders left in it.  Have no idea where I will put that one....  Also have to find a place for a large chair and the sofa as well.

Have a great night!

Howmus,

Fish tanks make excellent diorama holders. I had a 100 gal tank with a 1/87 scale English Man o' War in one when I was into ship building, still have the ship, but sold the tank. It was in FSM 20yrs ago. I also use the 20 gal. size for 1/35 scale Military dioramas & 1/72. I make the diorama outside the tank and make a key structure on it so it can be lifted in and out of the tank. They are dust proof and can be lighted in various ways. Perfect for a highly detailed model that needs to be protected, but displayed. My ship model was a key night light in my living room mantel piece for yrs.

Btw: For those who follow trucks....some of my trucks ( 1/87) will be in Model Freightways June publication.

Take Care All! Big Smile

Frank with the stripes! I sent you a PM!

Well I will find out shortly whjat time teh surgery/Iw ill have to be there for {early}.

So, wish me luck!

My stomach is in knots, though I am not afraid of the surgery, but being the "invalid" after,,,,MOH has had knots for a week or better.....

ALl my other surgeries {many of them} none, even carpal tunnel, was as debilitating as this one will be.

I will have my arm pinned to my side in a tight sling. I guraantee you I will miss it!

Fortuatnely I am ambidextrous, and can eat left handedly, aS I do anyway, Euro style {fork in left hand, and the knife stays in right had, not transferance of utensils}, BUT I admit to not writing well left handed as it really is easier to write right handed. I will manage...

Adn I will be getting off to Ulrich his fundage onthe 13th to allow for checks to get here, and to clear... THAT i can do..the bank will do most of the work..

Well, a half hour to got to call to find out when tomorrow to be at the atrium at Lourdes hospital!

Whew!

Nervous!

OK.

Got the details:

Have to be at the hospital in the atrium at 6:30 AM, and surgery is about the first if not the first one at 7:45 AM!

So early day, we like that as most of you know I am awake early and I will be out early for breakfast {after surgery} which I will be wanting soon after, I usually do. I want steak and eggs, of course!

So say your prayers at 7:45 AM EST!

I am not as knotted in the stomach now.

We'll see how I feel tomorrow...I MAY have MOH post for me,later,  so keep Confidentiality please! You know what I mean...

later,
MAKE IT A GREAT DAY

it isn't worth arguing about, it was "Elliot's Trackside Diner" for years, but he hasn't been aroudn for ears, and after last December's passing of our dear friend Jeffrey Wimberly, we renamed it to honor him....

Call it what you like, most of just call it "the diner" thread....

I recall a lot of fun times when we moved the diner to start a new month. Somebody would use the occassion to show off a locomotive to couple onto the diner and haul it down the track. Usually it was a switcher. We talked about securing the contents of the dining car for the move.... Sometimes, a refrigerator car was included for perishable food ...... Stuff like that. Fun  times.

Anyhow, I'll have coffee and a blueberry muffin, please.

Ken .... Are you okay? You posted you had a bad day the last time I saw you post.

Galaxy ... Hope you do okay. I see your surgery date is tomorrw.

I worked on the layout some more yesterday. Still doing construction on the benchwork. Still taking time to work on taxes, too.
