Ken and Inch, Metformin?  I've been on that since May.  I had been losing weight nicely, but as soon as the doctor put me on that, the weight went up and stayed there.  He cut the dose in half, but I still have not been losing weight.  Then again, I have generally been holding weight in the summer and losing it in the winter, as skiing gives me much more exercise.  People react differently to this drug.  The doctor said I should have more energy and lose a bit of weight, but I've seen the opposite.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, just a refil for my Seneca Lake Blend dark roast coffee, please.  That stuff is Gooooooooooooooooooood!

I had to rise and shine early this morning and get over to my Granddaughter's school for an early Veterans Day program she was in.  Her class was chosen to do a special song for the Veterans who came and Livie even got to do a small solo!  Proud Grandpa here!!!  After the program I went over and introduced myself to the Music Teacher in the building and let him know I enjoyed the program.  He nodded his head, then thought for a second and said, where did you teach?  I told him Geneva Middle School.  He grinned, and said, Oh Yes!

On the way back home I drove to my polling place and did my privilege and duty!  They were busy already.  Good sign.  I hope the turnout is good all over the country.  If you don't vote, don't complain!

Metformin...  I take a blend of Januvia and Metformin for Diabetes.  Called Janumet (50/1000 BID).  Seems to control the diabetes well and I have actually been able to lose about 25 lbs since I started taking it several years ago.

Hope to get some needed stuff done around here today.  My son from chicago is coming to town this weekend for the funeral of the last of the old generation in his Mother's family, Aunt Helen.  I would guess that I will be obliged to go too, even though I think I only mett the woman twice.  Not sure when and where the service will be even.  I'm sure I will be informed...

Catch you all later!

Whistling

Thanks CN. Charlie and Garry, for the kind Birthday Wishes.

I have now lived a year longer than any former men in my Family, which was 72.  I'm now 74.    ( I think that is a benefit of Model Railroading )

No news on the RR front right now other than I have run a few trains lately, but just been too busy with fall yard work and getting the vehicles ready for the Big White Blow.

Thanks again Galaxy for the prayers and candles over the past year. You don't get much thanks for them, but they are appreciated as any comfort is gratefully received.

Hope you all have a great day and keep smiling.

Johnboy out...............for now

Happy B-Day Johnboy! May your health improve!

It´s been a dull day here in northern Germany, no sign of sunshime. Temeperatures also dropped quite a bit, so we are back to our normal November weather.

I am looking forward to Friday´s tour to Bremen. We will take the 9.15 Metronom train to Bremen and arrive there shortly past 10am. It´s a five minute walk to the fair ground. Admission is $ 14 and I hope to recover some of that through a real good bargain purchase. I´ll be looking for cork roadbed and maybe a kit.

Have a great one!

 Afternoon Dinners

Flo, yes my dear I like a Beer

Not alot to talk about today. We left at 8:00 AM and took Sparkie The Rocket Dog to the vet. He could not hve anything to eat this morning and it confused him? I bet his barks meant "Did you guys forget about me?" Hope to hear about his blood work yet tonight. Are paw's are crossed!

Speaking Of Weight Loss I really think the Vet scales are out of whack. When we got Sparkie he weighted in at 16 pounds 6 oz. Then they said his weight kept going up. time before last they said he weighted 19 lb 6 oz's and did not seem any bigger? Today I weighted him and got 16 lb 6 oz's? Then the Vet checked and got 17 lb 4 oz's? Yea, Sparkie does not stand still, so that does not help. Next time we go, I am going to take a 25 pound plate and weight it a couple of times to see if I get the same reading.

Weight Loss Yeb, Mr B I am on Metformin and have read it makes it hard to lose weight. Till I get my A1C test down I am not going to ask the Doctor to cut the amount. I had just started the lower carb diet when I had the last test done so it was not reflected in this blood test. Maybe this next time around?

Train Front Found all my missing stuff to get the new B&O GP 30 on the rails.

 Happy Happy B-Day Johnboy!

 Later, Ken

Well

~First off: Happy B-Day to Johnboy! and you are most welcome for the candles and healing energy sent your way! anytime!

~second, biggest load off my mind is that at least for 2015 I am covered unchanged for health coverage. It is 2016 that will be a big mess as MOH's income has at least doubled or tripled on us, and we are knocked out of low income freebies now...BUT I think MOH will have to quit the second job, so it will reduce, but still will be higher out of the freebies. MOH will have to quit as can't physically do it anymore.

~NO, the kidney stone mOH has has not passed yet, still sleeping off the heavy duty pain meds, though.

~KEN: Medications can cause weight gain. My new addition for mania, the psychiatrist told me flat out "it will cause you to gain weight"..so far i seem to have flatened out at about 14 more pounds. That is 60 more pounds than I'd like! I probably weigh less in the A of M when I take my diuretic [fluid reducer or "water pill"} than at night as ti wears off. I already weigh "over enough" {Im short and fat} so I don't need a weight gainer. used to not so long ago be a svelt 140lbs. not any more...Whistling Of course the pumpin pie i am addicted to {this IS the season for it} doens't help!

~ quiet day here, mOH sleeping, but man phone rang all day.

~Had last of the PT for the calcific tendonitis. I dont' know why we did that routine? it makes no sense...the pain will only go away when the calicum deposits are removed from  the tendons in my shoulders! But insurance requires it...

~Insurance companies spend more money on things you DON'T NEED, and nto enough on doing what you DO need! No WONDER our helath care costs are so high...no vinnie, not a SoapBox now, Whistling

~WOnder how Jeffrey is progressing? How many feets did he go for today? Unless I misee it, haven't seen him today? probably chasing after nurses...

~Dinner will be heat n eat. MOH not eating much now. Seemed to fair better today...but pain medswill cause a sunnier disposition,Whistling....sometimes!

~Ulrich-have fun at the fair...Musicare you going to Scraborough fair? parsley sage, rosemary and thyme...Music

~hope there is a break in the sleeping,, I have wet clothes to dry and the dryer is by BR door...

~Have a GREAT nights rest!

Happy birthday Johnboy Happy B-Day.

Nurses here look great but I don't find them worth chasing. Physical therapy is going well. Yesterday I was doing their exercises while wearing thirty-five pounds of strap-on weights to negate my extra strength over the other participants. Even so I scored well above them. Their average weight lifted was ten pounds to my fifty plus the 35 for a total of 85 pounds. I'm doing better on the walking exercises than they are also. The average for them is thirty feet across the room. Not bad but they have both legs in most cases. My score to date is 65 feet on the walker. Not bad for a man with no legs. Mine is easily the sucess story of the entire class. While the others are trying to regain some of thn mobility they've lost my goal is to become fully independant again. My determination is rubbing off on some of the others as well. Some have changed their goal from achieving partial recovery to get back to doing for themselves again. All they neededwas a role model to follow.

Jeff,

Good to hear about Your achievments and determination.

Maybe that has been Your calling in life with all Your handicaps, to help other's realize that with a strong will and determination, a lot of things are possible to achieve independance, if You put Your mind to it and never give up.

And Happy B-Day to birthday boy, I'll be having one of those myself, in five days.

Take Care! All. Big Smile

GOOD WEDNESDAY MORNING!

~~No time to waste, I am taking MOH back to the hospital. THe pain has "not subsided in 48 hours, return to this facility" clause is now in effect. Its been 3 days, the nausea/vomiting is still there, too.

A big Happy B-Day in advance To Frank with the stripes!

~~ Jeffrey, I agree with Frank..maybe your "new goal" in life is to work with the newly handicapped as a "motivational speaker"....Start writing a book about your whole experience! I still remember my mother's old saying "I cried because I had no shoes, until I met a man who had no feet"...she used to use that all the time whenever we wanted something and weren't getting it...SHe didn't make it up, just used it to point out that there are others worse off than we were.

~~well, gotta grab a breaking fast meal and a quick shower to be off to the hospital!

Have a great day!

Mornin'.....  Guess it is still mornin'.

Zoe, just a refill on the dark roast coffee please.

Galaxy, having had 3 Kidney Stones in my life, I know exactly what your OH is going through!  All I can say is I don't want to have another one!!!  Do know you are both in my prayers for a quick resolution on the issue.

Sun has been out a few times this morning...  May actually make a few kWh today.  Getting to be the time of year when output is small.

Had to run a couple of errands this morning before I could get on the computer.  One was to get a couple ink cartriges for the Canon Printer which has now decided to print correctly again.  It is the one I like to use for envelopes and I am right now print a few hundred for the MLK Scholarship Campaign.

Catch you all later!

Geez, Jeff how do you keep such a positive attitude ? I have  afriend who lost his left leg due to a construction acccident with a bull dozer, he is having a horrible time. You are an inspriration not to your mates at the therapy place but to many others. You are just too AWSOME !

John Boy - HAPPY BIRTHDAY ! How old are you 29 ? Whistling

Ken - Hope Sparkies visit goes well

Galaxy - prayers are being lifted for your best half.

Not much time, came and scrolled through last few days. But phone is ringing off the hook, people standing in line for me to solve their problems or answer their questions and the one sub is still acting bad in the sand box. May have to kick him out if I cannot talk sense into him. I would like to give him a Knuckle sandwhich but that is not in keeping with my faith. Keep my oldest daughter in prayer we return to the sawbones on the 24th to review her MRI for her back.

Recieved permission from my church to use one of the rooms for an NMRA meet. Yea ! Excited about helping to host that.

Evening guys

Been busy looking for a new job. I've been in the dumps because when my temporary job ended, my old job pretty much axed me and gave me 1 day a week. The GM told me I would be able to go back to full-time.

Nothing in my degree field down here still. I've applied with Target, Afees, and O'riellies in the past few days. I haven't heard from the later 2, but the first saind they had no spots...

I've also been upset cause I am slowly gaining weight. I'm up to 260 now, I was about 175 before I started taking abilify. It's been a couple of years and the weight gain has been constant. In the past few months I have been eating half as much as I used to, and no snack and it's still gaining. I told my doctor and she is taking me off of it. I'm afraid my crazy metabolism can't keep up with the abilify, and I'm 25 so it may be going down-hill. I remember back in the summer of 07 I did absolutely nothing other than eat normal and lost close to 50 pounds in a few months.

Galaxy, there is a Turkey Creek about 15 minutes north east of me in Niceville.

anyways, dinner time. I'll be back later.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Hi all. I usually check in to see what is going on and lurk back in the corner booth.

As some of you may remember, I deliver lunches for Meals on Wheels out here in the middle of nowhere Nevada. Yesterday afternoon I got a phone call from my boss when I made it back home for the night saying that one of my clients passed away. Kind of sad as she was elderly and having some health issues, but she also had her mentally challenged daughter living with her. I kind of worry about the daughter, who is in her 30's. The daughter says she wants to remain in the apartment they were living in. Hopefully she can handle living by herself. I admire her determination to try to live on her own now.

Her determination reminded me of Jeffrey, so I decided to pop in and see how he has been doing. Jeff, I admire the spirit and determination you have to keep on keeping on. I know people who are in a much better situation than you are and they can not keep their spirits up. You are a beacon to others and it shows in your post above where you said others seek inspiration in you to try and do their best. I also admire that you can make light of the situation and joke about it. You, sir, are making the best of what life has dealt you. Keep up the good work Jeff.

All this gobble gobble gobbling and talk on Michigan by some made me think of a place I wanted to eat when we were in northern Michigan a few years back. http://www.gobblersofgaylord.com/Home_Page.html How can you go wrong with a place that its main purpose is to serve Thanksgiving dinner? I just wish I would have tried it.

 Evening Dinners

Flo, Beer Please, yes been one of those days.

Sparkie The Rocket Dog. We got the results last night on his blood work, not what we where hoping for. SighWhile there was mark inprovment his proten leves are still low. He wil have to stay on the Peganzone for awhile longer. Vet seems to think he will have to stay on it for the rest of his life.

Reason I hate having on that med is because it makes him hurnery and thirsty all the time! He has to be let out every 1.5 to 2 hours so he can pee. Sometimes at night, he cannot control it. We understand and don't get mad. Besides, after cleaning up after a Irish Wolfhound mishap, his is nothing! Laugh

Inch I have had very good luck before with the Low Carb Diet. I just hope cutting back too 35 grams of Carb's does the trick this time.

Tooth Ach My mouth is a nightmare. When I had a good income I could not find a Dentis that hours worked for me. Now that I am broke, well no funds to pay for the need work. While the pain is minor right now I know what is coming. Going to head to the VA Clinc and see if I can get a refreal to there dental department. When I signed up to use my VA Benfits I was told they would only cover dental work if I was homeless? Hmm If I did not have a house payment, I could pay for dental work. Confused God, isnt the Groverment just ran by the smartest people? Whistling

Jeffery Any idea when you will get the new leg? Glad things are going good for you so far! When you are driving agin, will you have to have hand controls?

Ulrich Hope you have a blast at the train show!

Happy Thursday, everyone!  A day closer to Friday, if nothing else.

I had another of those "I'm 8 years old again!" days.  A guy at hockey showed up with a set of Lionel HO trains from the 1960s.  He has had them in storage for years, and of course thinks they must be worth a lot of money.  So, I told him I'd take them to my LHS and see what they were worth.  My first step was to Google the catalog number, and I came up with an eBay auction going on right now.  It was $66.00 last night, up to $73 this morning.  My guess the other night was about $150.

I took it out of the box last night.  The transformer, contrary to his claim, was just fine.  I ran the little dockside engine a bit after cleaning the wheels, but I've got DCC and I didn't want to damage it with too much "Engine Zero" operation.  It ran poorly and the shell was cracked off at the back, no part found for repair.

But, it's got both a working giraffe car and helicopter car.  How can you not love that?

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Ken - hope things improve soon so you can take care of that tooth. I know from expierence that the longer you wait the more expensive it gets. Sorry to hear about teh disappointing news on Sparkie.

Garry - thanks keep the prayers coming. I said a prayer for your friend with Kidney stones.

Vincent - You may want to consider looking north to the DC , Northern Va. area. Things are very busy here. Lots of jobs.

Robert - I agree with your comment about Jeff.

Mister B. - LOL How can you not like those cars ! I am aways amazed when have something that they think is worth more than it really is. I saw one women who brought in some Tyco stuff to a local LHS and she wanted as much for that as a new MTH ! I felt bad for the owner of the LHS when he had to break the news that her brass tracks and Tyco stuff wasnt worth buying and trying to resale.

Welp - All things considered life is fairly good for a change. There is of course the normal stuff ( like a certain sub that is intent on making my life difficult, car troubles, unexpected bills etc...) but like my Pastor used to say. What made you so lucky that you got to be born in America where you have opputunity, three meals a day, freedom of religion and you can elect officals to run the country the way you want etc....I have heard the stories of place where folks work all day and can only afford one meal a day or where in some parts of Africa a mother has to make a choice which child will live and which will die because there isnt enough food. Yes I am blessed more than I deserve.

Good morning everyone. Sitting here at work again watching the plant and wishing to be home working on the layout. Had a good turnout for the Home Layout tour last Saturday and Sunday. 58 people showed up. The best part was that I had only two train car seperations during the entire time. One was a B unit I worked on into the wee hours of Saturday night and the other was a car that needed to be turned around to stop the separation. It was a good time!....Chuck

Well

~did teh grocery store bit, spent $117. More than I woudl have liked, but what are you gonna do...SOme prices are outrageous..like anywhere form $5.99 to $9.99 for A pound of bacon! We don't buy it often, and MOH was asking for it yesterday, so I bought a pound..luckily the $6.99/lb was on sale for $4. I know htere is a disease attacking pigs, so pigs are in short supply, but really? $10/lb for a "name brand"??

~Beouf is up too, barely couldn't get a chuck roast for under $10, found one just over. MOH really would eat beef all day long every day for a whole month If we could afford it. I like/love chicken{its also cheap}, MOH doesn't...guess which I try to buy most of the time? and guess which one I have to sneak in once a week? Did get a nice pack of beouf short ribs for less than $5, they will come out nicely the way I BBQ them in the oven.Happy life...Bosh on that...Haven';t had paskettti in a while, maybne I sneak that in. I do two types of chick: parm for me, parmasean/cheddar cheese for MOH, seemto work out well like that.

~MOh woke up wanting to got hospital, but fter a hot shower, was fine all day, UNTILL about 4 pm went for a nap, woke up a hour later screaming in agony to go to the hospital. It wasa a mess, i had stuff in the oven, etc, timign was so bad not funny,. I said the "heavy duty pain med has worn off is all I guarnatee you. Well, guess what,. I was right,,b ut the 3mm stone is still there by CT scan. So fluids {which I said MOH "wasn't drinking enough of too"} I was right on both accounts: pain med wore off and not enough fluids to push it!! Guess what else they so handidly found on the CT scan..."We found a lesion on your bone, did you know you have something called Pagets disease?" UH, YEAH, that is what started this whole thing..the extra calcium for the bone infusion! Its on MOH's med sheet, don't they look? DUH! What do we carry it for if they won't LQQK at it????

Oh Yeah:

I got 5 packages in the mail yesterday...!!!

Got two pairs of $7 clearance pants in my size! They are actually quite decent and they actually fit, though no stretchy waist band like I'd like. They are, well one dress adn one casual, but look dressy. NOw if I can get teh wrinkles out of the pair that is "wrinkle free" they'll be fine.Wash and dry alone didnt; fdo ti will have to break out the iron...I HATE IRONING! For the $14 I spent, I can not complain. GOta  flannel shirt for $ 4 adn a dress shirt thin material for $3. Got two pair fo fleece gloves with fingert ips for smart devices one for each at $4/pr and two fleece hats I hope one fits MOH for winters outdoors. Lets ee, got a set of 3 motion battery lights for the hall, we have two out front to light the stairs, and they work well. we have a LONG dark halway that has no plug in it for lights. It will help when the Xmas lights on time lining the ceiling go off.

GOt other stuff too for XMAs , but not telling! 2 DVDs,Some precious to us coin sets...etc. SOme gold bars some silver bars...etc.

well

I get therapized later by the therapist.

I best get to my nap...later

Afternoon folks!

I was all set to pop in here around 10:30 this morning, when the doorbell rang.  My son who was going to borrow the little trailer I have to bring over a couple now cut pieces of plywood he has to replace the back cellar doorway at his house....  He came in and said, no way.  Was raining good and heavy and he figured out on the way over that it would be best not to move the plywood from his basement to mine on a day like today.  He wants to seal the plywood with outdoor polyurathane at my house because I have the paint booth that will ventilate out the fumes...

We cahtted for a while and he decided to head home.  A few minutes later I got up and happened to look outside and the car was still in my driveway and he had the hood open fiddling with something.  Something failed in the power steering system (Spilling power steering fluid all over my driveway).  We decided to get it towed to his repair place.  Since he was driving his wifes car he called her to let know about the [roblem, and she said the car should still be under warrenty for it...  So now he has to call the Dodge dealer in town.  The tow truck was already on the way...  The service guy at the dealers looked it up and depending what exactly went on it it could be covered under warrenty...  On the other hand...

Anyway I just got home from taking my son back to his house.  Nice rotten fall weather outside too today.  Rain alternating with driving rain and 42°F outside with a high of 44°F maybe later sometime during a rain shower...  I am going to go light the wood stove and get rid of the hyperthermia I feel at the moment.

Later!

well

~I got therapized for another 2 weeks or 2000 miles, whichever comes first. My head is now screwed on straight again. Ha.

~I was out in the lovely weather of which RAY speaks..lovely..could be/turn into a Nor'easter..just what we need, BUT i rather it be the rain we are getting than snow it could be, though the Susquehanna was rather high when I drove over it...Flooding is always a danger...not to my house, but the power could go out for eons and with near fridgid temps and no wood stove handy, we'd freeze.

~Tomorrow MOH has GP Dr. appt, though if the stone has not passed, is moot point. I think MOH should wait til the pain hits again to take a pain pill, so we knwo whether or not it has passed, as thsoe silly screens they give you to pee in made out of paper DON'T last long....

~MOH MAY have to cancel other weekend job too, which will definitely put  a crimp in our budget, as NO sick time thjere, and the available sick/vacation time is used  up from main job this week too.

~My therapist said she had a friend..took a month to pass a stone...They CAN "pulverize them" or something, I don't knwo how long before they decide to do that...

~well off to ording form a catalog, as MOH marked some things to order, I will get some as XMAS ans some as regular..one pr pants will become work pants..they are just jeans lined with flannel, good for the grocery store job where cold air rushes in to agrivate the cashiers on duty {MOH being one of them} so heavy insulated pants are in order...MOH is always "cold" except June and July.

~Dinner is catch as catch can as MOH ate snacks and went to bed, since MOH not eating much the last several days, I encourage MOH to eat ANYTHING right now, when hungry.... I had Chix cordon bleu...with corn and Pump pie for dissert.

~ Wonder if JEFFREY made 100 feets today?

Have a great night..

Haven't made 100 feet yet. Does telling the therapist how to do the exercise help? My father came today and told the physical therapy class the exact same thing I've been telling them about confidence. If you've already told yourself you can't do something you've already defeated yourself.  He also told them they'd be wise to take my advice and follow my lead as I'm the most confident and determined person they could meet.
