Perhaps, Turkeyville would have been a good spot in Novemebr.

I recall Turkeyville near Marshall, MI.... It is a turkey farm which grew into a tourist trap... They sell fresh turkeys, and you can eat there with various kinds of turkey sandwiches and so on. .... Marshall, by the way, is the birth place of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers..... The town also has a German restaurant which attracts people from long distances.

Hmmm...slightly ominous tthat you should mention this!

Garry, After my maternal family left KY, they settled in Marshall, MI, where my mother was raised.....then later on settled in Battle Creek.Guess where my g-ma worked? Why, Kelloggs, of course!

Strange you should mention it...

Whistling

Interesting ... I lived in Michigan most of my adult life. First location was Kalamazoo, and the next was Marshall (very briefly). Next job was in GTW RR HQ in Detroit, and we lived in Macomb County, Oakland County, and lastly Ann Arbor. .... Kelloggs was GTW's largest customer not in the automotive business. GTW's locomotive shops were in Battle Creek, and I was there numerous times. ... I retired early and we live in a nice location at Land Between the Lakes in KY.

Small world, Eh?

I, myself, was born in BC as my Mother's family had already left KY by then, and I still have relatives in BC, and in K-zoo. Still have a distant relative or two in KY too.

When We went to BC for the first time with MOH, I said "I don't know about TimBucToo, But I sure can take you to Kalamazoo!". You would NOT believe the number of people out here who think "Kalamazoo" is just some made up name and NOWHERE is there a place named like that.Bet they don't know there really is also a Timbuctoo, a couple of them, actually!

***Jeffrey, sounds like rehab is going well.

***Ulrich, excellent pics.

Turned colder and widny here. Leaves are flying off the trees now. Not really looking forward to winter.

Have a terrific day all.

Lunch was almost a disaster for me. A pineapple type dessert turned out to also have have banana slices in it. I'm allergic to bananas. The kitchen staff then offered cherry pie as a replacement. Can't have that either!

Afternoon folks!  Happy All Souls Day to you!

Chloe, I just need a refill for my decaf at the moment.

Actually went to church this morning....  Haven't been to church since the first week in May.  Communion this Sunday (Always the first Sunday of the Month at our church) and got to sit next to Granddaughter #2 for the whole service.  She is growing into such a sweet young lady!  I stuck around after the service for about 45 minutes to test out the sound system and see if I could figure out what went wrong with it a few weeks ago.  Didn't take too long to figure out the amp for the main speakers is fried.  One side of the amp doesn't work at all and the other side is not sending out really clean power to the one speaker it handles.  I think gthis is yet another casualty of the lightning hit a couple years ago.  Hopefully the sound dealer agrees with what I found and can drop ship a new amp to us.  Will take about 45 minutes to switch out the amp and check/adjust the new amp.

Guess I will go and light the wood stove as it is all of 40°F outside.  Catch you all later!

Galaxy ....  That is interesting. I was in Kalamazoo studying Business at Western Michigan University. I paid for college working full time. I drove transit buses for the City of Kalamazoo. Railfanning meant watching Penn Central. Having a full time job while carrying full class load meant zero time for model railroading. .... The only family now in western MI is a daughter with her family in Grand Rapids and one of my sisters in Benton Harbor. Several other family members are in southeast MI.

Todd .... Regarding leaves, we had strong winds yesterday, and all I need to do is use a rake to lift leaves into the winds and blow them away,

Ray, Rob and Jeremy ... Good to see you too.

I apparently got a tiny amount of the banana treat and it made me quite sick. I got over it in time for dinner.0

We made it to the train show in Timonium last Saturday. Although we had a nice time, the show itself was a little disappointing in my estimation. I don't think there were nearly the number of vendors than were there in my past visits. Still a good show, but simply not worth the cost for us anymore. The modular club layouts were very interesting with a lot of excellent modeling on display. I ended up buying nothing. That's right, nothing at all. There were some good deals to be had, but nothing of note for my collection. We did find a new restaurant in Camp Hill that is really good, so the trip wasn't a total loss.

The new gas dryer was delivered last week before we left for Timonium, but they refused to install it because the existing line was copper & required a reducer which they didn't have. But the store we always buy from immediately refunded our installation charge. I got hold of my plumber after coming home & he installed a new gas line for the dryer, so I won't have any hook up issues in the future. I also had him install a new kitchen faucet assemply & shut off valves. However, I have to call our appliance repairman tomorrow as the spring on the dishwasher door broke last night. He had trouble getting parts the last time he was here for the dishwasher, so who knows where this adventure will end.

As far as changing the clocks for daylight savings time, I realized last night that my Iphone, the car, the TV & 2 clock radios all change the time automatically. I only need to do 1 wall clock, the stove & the microwave. Oh, my wristwatch too. That's it. Getting more & more simplar for us forgetfull seniors all the time.

This was a good weekend for railfanning. Yesterday there were 13 trains in 3 hours. 5 mixed freights, 4 intermodals, 1 coal, 1 crude oil, 1 stone & 1 unit train of open gondolas with what looked to be sand.

Today there 2 auto racks on CSX in about 2 hours. After stopping for lunch, we headed back to Norfolk Souther & had 1 coal, 1 crude oil, 1 intermodal & 1 mixed freight.

Foreign power this week was 1 BNSF & a HLCX SD40-2.

The mixed freight today had an SD80MAC in the lead. Those things are big & sound great. Unfortunately, the photo I got doesn't really do justice to these locomotives. I will also admit that the Conrail paint scheme was much nicer too. But they have all been repainted for some time now.

Almost forgot. Even though it rained most of the evening, we still had 170 kids trick or treating on Halloween. There were some really clever costumes & practally every kid said "thank you" or "Happy Halloween". The wife & I both laughed at 3 little girls around 10 or 11 years old. We werre into our reserves at that point and were giving out full size Hershey bars. The one little girl said thank you, then said "Write down this house number for next year" as they were leaving. We thought it was funny.

That's about it from here. Hoping you all have a good week & stay safe...

Well

~I just spent 4.5 hours in the ER with MOH this time,,,MOH has a kidney stone. SOme good meds later and no pain...for now..we'll see about later or tomorrow!!

~Garry- Even Smaller world..BOTH my parents graduated from WMU! My father got his job at IBM out here before finishing his degree, came out here was granted a sabatical to go back and finish his last semester...so I started Kindergarten out there in BC.Then came here for the second half the year of K. Every summer we returned to BC to my g-mas to a family reunion. My mother's family {save the ones in KY} all live/lived in MI, we were the only ones to leave the state..... The EL ran out here, so that with a few well placed Chessie trains ran on the road to my house here, out in the country..if we went home the wrong tiem, had to wiat for either the cows to cross the road or the train to cross the road when I was growing up! They once dug up the {bad crumbling} road roadbed around the tracks and put in the metal plates, but the cows refused to cross the metal plates as to the sound on their hooves,SO...the RR had to dig up the plates and go back to RR ties for crossings!

~Jeffrey! Make Sure they know all your food allergies too! Shell fish and I don't get along well, but no other food sensitivities, just a growing list of adverse reactions to medications! SInce I was once  clinically dead for 6.5 minutes on allergy one med, I don't fool around if I start to react to a med! GOod thing for CPR, ambulances and  shockers! when they were looking for donations to outfit local schools/public places with Automatic Defib machines, I so wished I could have donated one as they sure come in handy sometimes!

Well, have a good nights rest! There is no extra hour tonight for certain ones of us!

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer Please.

Work Stunk so that is covered!

Diet, very disapointing. I have been good about the amount of carbs I havee been eating. Been keeping right around 40 carbs a day. In the last 2 weeks I have lost nothing and gave up a lot of the foods I enjoy! I have read one of the Diabetic Med's I am on makes it hard to loss weight and I am starting to beleive it!

Well I am not done yet! If I no longer can lose weight with a 40 carb intake a day, I am going to cut down to 35 carbs. I use to lose weight at 40 but that was a few years ago, OK 15 years ago.

Shoulder Finally Stopped Hurting. There is still a very faint discomfort so I am waiting another day but after that I am going to start working out again. That should help get rid of some of the weight.

Another Computer Question. My Mother Board will support up to 2 Gigs of memory (Have 125 right now) It and the Pentium 4 Processor will only run my RAM DDR333 at 320 MHz. Now do I have to stick with RAM that is only 333 or could I use say a 500? I think it will still only run at 320 MHz but easier to find.

Thanks for the coming answers on that one folks.

 See you later, Ken

Evening all, could I get a barely pop please dear. Settin here watching football and thought I’d stop in.
Day didn’t go as planned, Mother decided we needed to run over ta Terre Haute this morning which worked out ok, was going to need pellets later this week, so killed 2 birds in one trip, turns out they were on sale ta boot.
Right after we got home my sister called wanting to know what the family did for our nephew’s 2 week old daughter when he died. They’re afraid that 2 Pry will forget daddy. Mother told her, his mom got a back n put his favorite shirt, aftershave, books he’d read her and the ones read to him when he was little, along with other things from the family. Little George as I call her, is 8 now, look and acts just like her daddy, and thanks to the box and stories, she’s gotten to know her daddy.

Best start getting ready for sheet time, 4 am come early. Thoughts n prayers for those in need, n catch ya’ll laters on

Inch ... We'll keep praying for your nephew's family.

This small community we live in is deeply saddened by the murders I mentioned. The high school auditorium was filled this afternoon for a funeral of the 3 family members who died. People are still in shock. The whole town is grieving. The non-fmily member murder victim had lived in another town.

Galaxy ... That is interesting stuff. I recall the Penn Central merger was when I was in Kalamazoo. Both NYC and PRR operated there. GTW went through Battle Creek but not through Kalamazoo except for a branch line. Pennsy sometimes operated GP9's owned by Bangor and Aroostock RR apparently at times of the year when the units were not needed in Maine. After the PC merger, I no longer saw the B&A GP9's.

Ken... Just a comment to encourage you with losing weight. There are times when it gets frustrating I know. Hang in there.

Tom .... I like the NS photo.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a refill for the decaf please.

Went over to my son's house for Sunday Dinner.  Tonight was a nice homemade Beef Soup with italian bread and leftovers of the Birthday cake from yesterday....  Got to play Wii with the granddaughters and was nice and let them beat me.  I even tried my best...  Ahem....  Well, you know.  I usually do well with bowling but they got me playing some other stuff on it...  Came in last every game.  I was a good sport about it.

Little by little getting a few things done that are in need of completion.  A couple things for publication in the Division Newsletter and some printing for the MLK Committee.

Garry, I was going to say something about how terrible a thing that murder was in your neck of the woods a couple days ago.  Have been keeping everyone who has been affected by it in my prayers!

I need to go out and unplug the EVSE from my PiP as the police here are saying there have been a bunch of thefts from autos here in town recently.  They have been advising that people lock their cars and use their garages if possible...  Since i don't have a garage, I will just make sure the PiP gets locked.  The EVSE will be hidden on the portch.  Oh...  The EVSE is the charging cable that plugs into the car.  The actual charger is on board in the car, but the cable from the electric to the car also has a computer in it.  The one that comes with the car costs close to $1,000 to replace!  I have one about half that cost which I keep in the car for when I charge it at other locations.  But still an expensive thing to have stolen!

Hope all of you have a safe and pleasant night!  My prayers for all in need...

Good Morning!

Another nice day! We had some r*in during the night, which is more than welcomed! It´s way too dry out here.

Home owners and garden lovers - watch out! A woman in Tennessee was sentenced to 5 days in jail for violating community bylaws. Working three jobs to be able to feed her family, she had not found the time to mow the lawn in her front yard and was fined $ 500 by the community. Unable to pay, a judge sent her to jail - leaving her children unattended. How sick is that? I am just wondering about the state of a society which sends mothers in need to jail instead of helping them ...

Jeff - hope you´ll have a good breakfast to start your day of exercises!

There is a HD list waiting for me - I also have to do the usual beginning of the month bank run. Other than that, I don´t have plans for the day.

Have a happy Monday!

Ulrich:  It's nothing new really, I say "welcome to the NEW USA". FIrst MANY people work more than one job only IN HOPES of "making ends meet"...we couldn't do it if MOH wasn't working 2 jobs in addition to my income. Second there is too much "who is watching what who is doing" going on here, and nobody is "minding their own business" here. Especially in neighborhoods governed by "community laws" and HOAs {Home Owner's Associations}, where they can even tell you you CANNOT fly the USA flag in front of your home...or what flowers you can plant or that you can't let your grass go over 3" long, etc-ASSUMING you CAN even HAVE a grass-lawn {in areas of strong drought no watering of lawns is allowed and "garden food" for humans is limited to be watered}. Third: NO one gives anyone a "break" regardless of what is going on...they will say she could have hired the local college-bound kid to mow for $20-25, instead of letting it go. Welcome to the en-masse changes a la America! Before it turns political, which is verboten, I'd best shut up. See, even here they can tell you what you can and cannot say....

Zip it!

GOOD MONDAY MORNING!

November 3rd, 2014!

Healing energies go out

to those in need, for those in

pain, for those who just

passed, for those who

need guidances

Here's your quotes of the day:

It is more often from pride than from ignorance that we are so obstinately opposed to current opinions; we find the first places taken, and we do not want to be the last. -Francois De La Rochefoucauld, moralist (1613-1680)

Few things can help an individual more than to place responsibility on him, and to let him know that you trust him.  –Booker T. Washington

Certain things catch your eye, but pursue only those that capture the heart. – Ancient Indian Proverb

~MOH is not doing so well again this AM, may return trip to the hospital be needed? The pain is back as the shot in the hospital has worn off, and the anti-nausea isn't working either. I am rather "hearty and independent" when sick, and MOH is an excellent "nurse" who "mother hens" me to death...but MOH is often a big baby when sick, and I am not such a good nurse....I have little patience, and if someone vomits {even the cat} guesss what I do too? I have a weak stomach!Whistling

Well, Best go attend to My Other Half's needs...I hope my breakfast stays down....unfortunately I cannot do MUCH for MOH, as I cannot make the kidney stone go away!

Good morning, all.  I had an exciting weekend of track cleaning and then some heavy couch potato work watching football.  So, I just now flipped the page on my Model Railroader calendar and found a GG-1 as "Miss November."  One of those silly habits of mine is to never peek ahead at the pictures, so every month is always a surprise.  Now that I'm about to retire, I don't think I'll buy calendars anymore.

My computer started freezing up over the weekend, for no obvious reason.  But, I had just put the side cover back on, so I suspect it was overheating.  I took the cover back off and it's been working fine since.  I installed a small CPU temperature monitor programs, so if it freezes up again (odd choice of words, since it's probably overheating) I will have the temperature on the screen as a record.

We had some snow squalls on Sunday.  No accumulation, and no issues.  But, Sunday River, where we do most of or skiing, is now open with 1 trail.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Galaxy - from your words I gather that the "New America" is not the America I used to know and learned to love. That hurts! In my dreams, I still want to live in that log cabin by a lake, with the red pickup truck parked in the driveway, but not in a country which sends people into jail for not mowing the lawn. This is utterly sick!

OK, I am stepping off the soap box now, but I just had to let of some steam.

Sun. 68-52  Mon. 75-48  Tue. 82-51
This is the TV forecast that I post all the time and the last few days it has seemed considerably colder in the evening and night and morning. Right after summer its freezing to me. Many people here turn off their heater pilot light during the summer to save a little on the gas cost and keep the house a little cooler.
I couldn't get the pilot light to stay on Sat. night and again Sun. night. This morning it is staying on and so far it looks like I'm set for the winter.
I'm strongly considering leaving the pilot light on all year, What do you think?
Mens football game on TV fellowship tonight at the pastors house. Brackworst and baked potatos with all the fixings.

If you are having trouble with your pilot light, 1} when was the last time you had the unit serviced, 2} how old is it? 3} maybe its time for a new one?

We here in the north country DON'T fool around when it comes to heat making machines...we get them serviced often {like every year}. SHutting off the pilot light shouldn't be a problem if your machine is in good working condition, but they don't last forever...And there IS NO pilot light on my furnace, though it is brand new {well 4 years old now} and they do things pilot-less now-a-days...and they last fewer and fewer years long now!

~ Well, MOH is finally off to sleep and resting, the meds working for now. I daren't wake anybody {the cat is asleep on top of MOH} for fear It will re-awaken pain and vomiting.

~ Got the meds and ginger ale, but MOH has yet to have any, as I said...let sleeping dogs {or cats} lie...

~My migraine has fluctuated all day today. Better now, but it roller coasters, set in with the latest cold ffront here...

~ Dun't know what to have for dinner, may hjust have a heat-n-eat. MOH will rpobably want nothing, won't/doesn't like soup.

~I think time to go for a nap now.

V8Vega,

Your pilot lite was probably hard to lite, because from having it off, dust collected in the tiny air vent, that would have burnt off when lit. As long as the pilot flame is a nice blue color and not yellowish and wavery....Your good to go. When my furnace had a pilot lite, I always shut it down in the summer. But before winter set in, I always cleaned the pilot and thermocouple with some compressed air and old tooth brush before lighting. The black carbon soot, comes right off with a tooth brush. Unless you don't believe Your capable of doing it Yourself. Good time to change Your filter too!

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a diagram with instructions, somewhere on Your furnace explaining about it.

Take Care! Big Smile

Good Evening,

Happy Birthday Johnboy!!!  Hope you had a good day and that the WP is running on time.

We finally have finished the yard work for fall and have been very lucky with the temp being above normal for this time of year. Why it was 45F today which is warm for us  but by week-end we are looking at a high of about 25F.

I finally finished the new station for my N scale layout. It looks a lot better than the Atlas station which I think wasn't to scale. I measured it with a scale ruler and a station 30' by 16' is rather small, not much bigger than a large garage especially considering it is rather ornate. I got all of my ballasting stuff out and will soon tackle that job.

Not much new around here. Hope everyone is doing well.

Evenin' folks!

Janie a cup of hot chocolate would be really nice right about now!

Currently 53°F outside on it's way down to 40°F overnight.  Still warmer than yesterday.

I Got my month's supply of Seneca Lake Blend and Marrakesh Express dark roast coffee and a few other things down at the Natural food store, then went off to a clothing store in town (used to be an Army-Navy store) and got my every third year Carhart jacket for keeping warm out in the sn*w this winter.  Had a meeting with the Scout District Executive and my minister about starting a new Venture Crew at the church.  She will be taking it to the Session (Elders) of the church in a couple weeks for approval.  Should be a go.  We will make sure I am there and a long term Venturing laeder (Lady) from nearby will also be there to answer questions.

I lit the wood stove a while ago and the house is now nice and warm...  Tomorrow I will be going to my #1 Granddaughter's School to hear the 2nd. graders sing a concert!  I will stop and vote on my way home from that, and then move the rest of the old wood from the back porch to my wood stack in the living room near the stove.  Then I need to sweep off and clean the back porch and get ready to move the 6 face cords of wood from the side driveway to the back porch...  At some point as soon as I get some of the firewood off the lawn, I need to mow the front lawn one more time and then bring in the carrots from the garden.  I pulled a couple to use in a beef stew I made last week.  Both were about an inch and a half across at the top and 9/10 inches long.  They appear to be the norm for the growth out there this year.  I should have plenty of carrots to eat this winter!  Nice and sweet too...

CN Charlie, good to see you sir!

Prayers for all in need!

Something heard in this retirement home and mainly from me when the phone rings is 'Joe's crab shack, we got legs!'. It frequently gets a laugh.

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer Please.

Work was afully dull today. Only had 4 customers today and there where 2 of us working the floor. Good News is I got a few of my computer questions answered. Plus I got some free memory sticks. My computer currently only has 1 DDR 128 stick in it. I got a 256 and a 512 stick for free. (I know I cannot use both) But it gets better. Cary (other person working the floor) plays with computers and is sending 4 sticks of 512 ram which is the max my mother board can support. All so for free!

Sparkie The Rocket Dog Goes to the Vet Tuesday for another blood test. Lets hope is proten level is back to where it should be so I can take him off the Peganzove.

Z Strip Well stop drinking Beer would help with the weight loss. But if I cannot have Beer why would I want to live? Whistling Just kidding about that part. (far as you know) Plan is to cut back on beer, that is where most of he carb's are coming from.

Gary Thanks for the words of encourgement! (Spell Check) I am sure I will get to my current goal, I only need to lose another 10 pounds to get there. Next goal will be around 240 pounds. I should carry 240 pounds well with being 6'3". Then I will just be heavy looking.

See you all later, time to watch Time Team and then dinner.

JohnBoy .... CN Chalrlie says its your birthday..... Happy birthday!

CN Charlie .... Good to see you.

The murder I mentiond is published now in People Magazine online. ... This little town will be in shock for a long time. ... Araignment was today. Bail is set at $5.0 million. The alleged killer is charged with 4 murders and 1 kidnapping. Each one carries a death penality if convicted. The kidnapping was his own sister who he bound with duck tape before her murder.

Good morning.  Voting is over with for me.  For the Presidential elections, they open the polls at 6 AM, but for this one it's 7.  I try to be at work by that time, particularly with the nightmare that traffic through town has become.  So, I was late to work today.  Tuesday is hockey night, so I don't want to get involved in getting to the far side of town.  I'd rather get right home and take a nap.

With the side off, my computer has gone back to being well-behaved.  The computer has a water-cooling unit.  I'll have to check the connections and make sure that's still working.
