German steam
Posted by Motley on Friday, October 3, 2014 9:24 PM

I just got me a new German Steam train. Its a Roco BR10, with 6 passenger cars. I did some resarch and there is a lot of restored German steam here in the US.

My story is the Golden Railroad Musem restored the German BR10 with passenger excusions from Golden to Glenwood Springs Colroado.

This thing is sweet! My first Euro model. It has smoke that comes out of the cylinders!

And the LED lighting is awesome. It even has chassis lights that light up the wheels.

I shot a video of it on my layout. And a few pics too.

Michael,

Nice video of an impressiv loco!

A few bits of information on the loco - the Deutsche Bundesbahn class 10 (BR is Baureihe, in English class) was the last new steam loco design in West Germany. They were meant to replace the pre-war Pacifics, which were pretty much worn out after the many years of neglect during the war. Only 2 were built, one oil-fired and one coal-fired version. Both proved to be good performers, exceeding expectations, but Deutsche Bundesbahn cancelled the order for more locos in favor of the class V 200 Diesels.

Both locos saw only about 10 years of service, while one was scrapped, one was preserved and there are rumors that she will be restored into operating condition.

I am particular fond of this steamer, as my FIL had been on the team constructing it at Krupp Locomotive Works.

Michael:

I love the paint scheme with the red wheels and under carriage. The LEDs over the wheels must look pretty neat in night time operation, and the steam from the cylinders must be pretty neat too.

This is a bit off topic but I also have to say that your road is really well done!

Nice score and great modelling!

Dave

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
