I have 42 locomotives & counting.
All but one are usable & that one needs some TLC.

I have three old steamers, one Mantua & one Roundhouse that need to be re-motored, & one brass dockside that needs the running gear fixed.
These have not been included into the count.

Well over 150, BUT......I've got something like 90 of them for sale. I'm heading to two train shows in December to thin the herd...

Depending how you look at it, I've got you all beat. I have two: An Athearn Light Mike and a Proto 2000 S1 switcher. I really don't want very many. It's just more to keep track of and maintain.

I have four "good" locomotives:

Spectrum 4-8-2 light mountain
P2K GP9
Rivarossi 2-truck Heisler
Athearn R-T-R F59PHI

I also have a couple old Athearns. One of them I don't use at all, and the other I only use to test new sections of track.
huh?

Hey man, locomotives are where it's at! To me, that's what model railroading is all about. Locomotives, pure and simple. I've got 42, and I have a friend who has over a hundred.

I have 5, 4 Athearns (good for my teenage budget without decoders and such yet) and one PK2, and E9. # of the athearns are GP38's, and one is a SW7 modified to an SW1200. I hope to get many more soon, hopefully some Athearn SD40-2s next.

QUOTE: cuddlyjools: I think we always buy far to many than we really need.

Boy you sure got that right. We're talking an insidious addiction here. I can remember when I had one locomotove and thought it was "all I needed". At least, I think I can remember back that far, I'm not that sure. Then came the day I was shopping at the LHS and the owner whispers "Hey, kid, have I got something to show you!". So I wind up with a second one. Hey, thinks I, always "needed" a switcher. Then probably a train show, and some vendor uncovers a neat little 2-8-0 for a steal of a price. "Too good to pass up", says I. Later a friend (?) introduces me to ebay, I browse a bit and bang, I'm suddenly the owner of an SD70MAC. And I don't even model modern railroading??

Let's just say I have "several" locomotives. Way too many to fit on my small layout, that's for sure.

Now I find myself going through the ads in MR first, looking for the word of a new 'fix' on the market. And there have been some recent announcements regarding new releases that I may have to actually call the LHS and reserve....................

It's addictive I tell you. Someone ought to pass a law restricting sales of locomotives to weak-willed model railroaders.

Excuse me, I have to go dust off my roundhouse.....................

Regards

Ed

I think it was mentioned some time ago on this forum that people who post items like this and those who respond with highly expensive sounding lists of their locomotives are possibly making yourselves the targets of theft if someone is perusing the forums looking for targets in their vicinity. It's better to ignore questions of "How many" or "What do you own," instead of calling attention to your collections. I'm not saying it has ever happened, but why take chances?

QUOTE: I think we always buy far to many than we really need.

Thats so true. I have 3 walthers F40's (1 MBTA, 2 amtrak) and up until a few weeks ago was thinking of buying a VIA one to go with the GO transit cars made by athearn. but then kato announced theirs. So that means im selling off 2 of my F40ph's when they come out and buying an MBTA one

jmho, but I don't think there's any harm in asking the question.

Those who feel that they'd rather not post details like that on a public forum are free to simply read the replies and not post anything themselves.

It's very similar to the threads we've had on whether one should put any information in their user profile on a forum. Again, the users are free to either put info there or not at their discretion.

On the other hand, cacole was just posting a warning about possible problems (unfortunately stuff like this exists in this day and age), and Jeremy probably over reacted to cacole's post.

Like they say, "Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean I'm not being followed."

Ed

I don't mind posting, I've been collecting for a number of years and I'm pretty proud of my roster. Besides, I'm insured. Anybody rips me off, I'll just go raid BLI.

I have 11 - 1 HLGX test engine, the rest are all NYC - 2 steamers, 8 diesels, 1 needs repair, and 3 are being relettered with proper markings and numbers. That is plenty for me.
