I would say I have roughly 25 engines that are powered locos and another 6 that are unpowered.

So you can say 25 or 31

HO Scale:

Had a bunch at one time during the 80s. Almost all "high amp drawing" Athearn Blue Box. (not very good for DCC) I've sold or traded most of them during the past several years. Just didn't want to go through the hassle of remotoring. The only Athearn BBs I'm keeping are four FP45s and two SCL U33Bs---------- Scheduled for the "Tsunami" treatment.

Still have two Model Power E7s (brutes!) and 5 " Atlas units.

Newest additions: P1k New Haven RDC, P2K-GP9, three P2K-E7s, a P2K-SD45

"I like my Pullman Standards & Budds in Stainless Steel flavors, thank you!"

Boy you sure got that right. We're talking an insidious addiction here. I can remember when I had one locomotove and thought it was "all I needed". At least, I think I can remember back that far, I'm not that sure. Then came the day I was shopping at the LHS and the owner whispers "Hey, kid, have I got something to show you!". So I wind up with a second one. Hey, thinks I, always "needed" a switcher. Then probably a train show, and some vendor uncovers a neat little 2-8-0 for a steal of a price. "Too good to pass up", says I. Later a friend (?) introduces me to ebay, I browse a bit and bang, I'm suddenly the owner of an SD70MAC. And I don't even model modern railroading??

Let's just say I have "several" locomotives. Way too many to fit on my small layout, that's for sure.

Now I find myself going through the ads in MR first, looking for the word of a new 'fix' on the market. And there have been some recent announcements regarding new releases that I may have to actually call the LHS and reserve....................

It's addictive I tell you. Someone ought to pass a law restricting sales of locomotives to weak-willed model railroaders.

Excuse me, I have to go dust off my roundhouse.....................

Regards

Ed

I feel your pain brother. I just can't stop buying! Its an addition.

And don't forget, there is always room from one more engine in the roundhouse.

I have a pair of E-7's and an ABBA set of FT's that are DCC. I have about 10 analog locos, all diesel, And I have to decide what to keep and convert, or give away/sell. I need to get into timeframe because I am running Great Northern in '47/'48, and I know several of my analog locos are later such as GP35's, SD-9's etc.

I've lost count. I have 10 command equiped engines, and since that's what I plan to run, the rest don't matter. I figure I'm about 30 to 40 short.

I just started to wonder what's on the shelf. Since just a few years ago I picked up a few companions to go with a lonely heavy road loco. See, it wasn't right not to have a switcher do hogger work for a road engine. Then, I realized the switcher team needed another hogger over at the other side o' the yard. The road engine was getting up in prototype years (1928) so something new needed to be there for faster, heavier trains. Gee, isn't there a good reason for its companion, Phase two to be there as well? How about multiple lashups? Oooops, Phase III now... Hey, I just saw another one available whose prototype does medium duty... We all need medium duty stuff. Sure!! Yeah, that's it... say, what about another one like it because the schedule is getting crowded and the milk runs and locals could use some help. And then, whaddya know, there's a heavy freight hauler that needs to take the flag hotshots, and... does the railroad have only one? NOT!! Need a couple of them! Golly, now our railroad is looking at updating the entire fleet. It's not 1952 any more, and these veterans need some Gen II help, and the steam is now museum power! Better get the leasing papers in order folks, we're going for the fleet. Hey, I just noticed there is a need to depict interchange activity! Let's see, now.....

Okay guys, you made me go take a census. 47 total:
Diesel= 40 3 GN, 12 CB&Q,25 BN
Steam= 7 all CB&Q
ooops,wait .... 48 ! I forgot that new SD75. BNSF of course!
Why the spread in eras? I got the itch for steam last year.
Ed is right. There's always room for ONE more loco!

well i own all of 5 engines, and i should be getting one in probably 3-4 days that ordered off Ebay, a P2K GP60 NS loco. i'm also going to show on saturday, with about $150-$170 in my pocket to spend. i've been saving up now for awhile waiting for a show to come around. i plan on getting 2 locos minimum, a ton of kits if the same vendor is there.

anyways. back to locos. all mine are GPs
1 BN GP40 Atlas
1 BN GP50 Athearn
1 CB&Q GP40 Atlas
1 RI GP9 Proto 2000
1 CB&Q GP9 Proto 2000
soon to be 1 NS GP60 Proto 2000

i'm hoping to get an atlas this weekend. i really want an C44-9W or an AC4400. i doubt i'll have enough money for those though.

Ones ... for every occasion.
I have big ones.
I have small ones.
I have new ones.
I have old ones.
I take inventory on a regular basis, and I think
at last count, 13 were active, 2 are retired.

[}:)]EDIT........

Are you also counting slugs, slaves , and dummies ???

Well, I've been slowly getting back into the hobby, and I'm trying not to burn out my budget until I graduate college, so I've only really got one loco right now, which is an RPP SD90 that I'm putting together. I do also have some the Athearn blue boxes my brother and I got when we were kids, but they're in still in storage since I don't have trackage of my own right now.

4 N-scale, only 2 are really good.
9 HO-scale, Only 5 are really good.

Quality over quantity I guess, or something like that.

I have about 60 engines. All mixed mfg.'s. Athearn, Lifelike, Bachmann, Atlas, Kato, Stewart, Walthers, Con-Cor. I run most of mine at different times on the layout. I usually run 3 engines at a time
on all my hills because of steep grades & it looks good to the visitors. I also have about 4 steam engines that sit on a shelf most of the time.

I have 10 N scale locos on my layout, 6 N scale locos from my old layout (different road) which I rarely run, and 7 HO scale locos from my early modeling days when I modeled in HO.
