WEll

I am official brain-dead...the class..well I am still overwhelmed.

1} the program on the big screen he used is OLD so outdated for many things

2} there were 2 in classs..with diff. phones doing diff things {though both android programmed},adn instructor had 3rd phone type...

3} instructor's phone was "dead" as he just changed his phone system!

SO: we could NOT do half the stuff properly and only got 1/3rd way through the supposed class needs. I am overloaded! NOT as easy as other people make it look, not for an old man who just got weened form flip phone heavenly bliss.
OH, and my phone system has an error in it I was supposed to see somebody aobut before i left, but forgot. Maybe tonight for the ellipsis tablet "party" some will be review on it.

whew! alomst "Burned out" on it. What happened to the old fashioned way of talking on the phone to each other?? Kids won't know to say "hello" soon enough without first sending text message?

well, JEFREY: I feel for you:you probably didn't get much for your $80-some bucks?  I used to spend $100 at the grocery now up to $150! and come home with not much.

ULRICH: sorry, but sometimes we have to start over, DON"T SWEAT IT! or "nicht schwitzen"!!!

well, almost time for the mail

Hmm Banquet boxed chix is like $7 here...

i hope that gets you through the month?

MOH is a BIG "snacker" I try to get those at Aldi, you may not have one down there?

And we have to have  "well balanced diet dinner"...meat {preferably BEEF accoridng to MOH}, veggies {steamed fresh, salad or canned, sometimes frzen},and a starch...but have to rotate what we have as MOH will revolt!

Balony, chilly and rice won't cut it here, unfortuantely. The tabasco MOH would like, as well as the olives{provided tehy are the black kind}!

We USED to love snacking rarely on ocassion on Ramen Noodles, until we say they don't break down in the digestive track. I need to give those away or throw out.

Hope it does you for awhile! I can't believe how little they give you for SnAP.

Nope, no Aldi markets here. Laws in Louisiana make it hard for foreign companies. Heck, it took about ten years for Dairy Queen to get authorization to operate here. The Banquet boxed chicken I got is a 42oz family pack. Yeah, I only get $32 in SNAP benefit. It helps though.

Got another Fed X letter from BoS!  They finally modified my house loan! My first letter from BoS about this is dated September 22, 2010. So it has only taken a little less than 4 years to get this done.      Bang Head

When I started this quest interest rate was around 2.5%. Now it is in the mid 4’s. So what would have been a $620.00 is now an $843.00 payment.  Sigh

So, you see why I have mixed feels about this Miracle. I don’t want to be a slave to the house payment again!

I will have my lawyer look at the papers before I sign a thing! Heck, I did not even check to see if they have the address corrected yet.

Has anyone dealt with the Reverse Mortgage’s?

Just told Sue about the Fed X package, she seems to feel about the same as myself.

Good evening. Haven't heard back from the docs office on the lab results. I'll call tomorrow and check it out.

I got very little done today. Did the grocery shopping this morning, did a little work on the //e and watched a couple of movies.

All the Apple software I copy mine from comes from a megarom file I downloaded from a computer forum last year. I don't want to lose this file so it's been copied to my external hard drive, several USB flash drives and all ten of the SD cards that I have my Apple software archived on. Unless something catastrophic happens I'm not gonna lose that file.

Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

I guess you could say I really like Tabasco. There's three bottles of original, one habanero and one jalapeno.

Has anyone dealt with the Reverse Mortgage’s?

 Ken

Hi KEN! I'd be happy with a $843 MORTGAGE...We pay $350/m RENT for a 21'x 80' plot of land on which to park our 14' x 65' {called 70'} trailer! Now we DO get "free water", "free garbage pickup" {i can go to the dump, i'm a big boy}, Land TAXES ARE included in our rent! I'm tired of people thinking "renter's don't pay land/school taxes"...guess what, when they go up on hte whole property, so does our rent! And when taxes GO DOWN, we get NO discount either, they KEEP the "extra"!!

Now, granted the $620 would be better, but you still OWN far more than we do....Whistling

Your house is bound to ultimately grow in value over time, our 1983 trailer is worth about a whole $5k now, and WILL ONLY GO DOWN in value.

Actually I'd be happy with a $620 mortgage, too, if only it were for a house....SleepZzz in my dreams! That'd be about all we COULD afford.

Now: for REVERSE MORT.:
Form what I have seen on teh news happening:

BE VERY CAREFUL with the REVERSE mortgages!! Some will put Sue out of house and home if you died! If one partners dies, the total payout paid during the R. Mort. becomes DUE and PAYABLE OR the survivor is OUT of the house, losing it, no matter how much time  is "left" on the R Mort.!

Others apparently will be until EACH {BOTH} signers dies, if the R. mortgage is owned jointly.

ALSO: if you intend to leave the house to any heirs, THEY will have to back-pay all the payouts or Forfeit the house!

ALso, {not sure on this one} but if your house becomes worth LESS than the payout, you might be responsible to back-pay the "overage" they paid you.

SO, BE VERY CAREULL!
hire a Lawyer to go over any details about such and such on the R mort. TOO!

GOOD Luck!

Good Morning!

I just typed a lengthy post and hit the wrong button - Mr. Murphy hasn´t yet moved out of my place!

It´s a lovely day today, no cloud to be seen, comfortable temperature of 22°C - my kind of weather!

Made an appointment with our Volkswagen dealer for the annual service. That´ll be about $ 250 including an oil change. A lot of dough for the little we drive. In that one year, we have driven about 4,000 miles only.

On the way back I bought a jar of white glue and stopped at our local carpenter´s place, where I got two sizable sheets of veneer - for free! Building the engine house will be the next project, right after ballasting the track. I still feel a little intimidated by my failure on the backdrop, so that project is postponed for a while.

Ken - Galaxy is right - take a look at what Wikipedia says about reverse mortgages!

Have a great day!

Good morning.  Cloudy with showers, but I'm at work anyway, and these days I'm cheering for the lawn.  Now that the daytime temperatures are in the sixties, I'm happy with temperatures that require neither heat nor AC.  My car has a garage, my grill has an overhang so life is good.

galaxy irately remarked:

I'm tired of people thinking "renter's don't pay land/school taxes"...guess what, when they go up on hte whole property, so does our rent! And when taxes GO DOWN, we get NO discount either, they KEEP the "extra"!!

What?  You have taxes that go down?  That never happens here.  Taxes have been "monotonically increasing" ever since I learned that phrase in middle school math class.

Ken, remember how you found out about reverse mortgages.  TV ads, right?  Starring The Fonz from Happy Days.  When aging, out-of-work actors tell you to buy something on either daytime or late night TV, that should set off a red flag right there.

We had a good hockey game last night.  It's always fun.  A guy everyone but me calls "Old Joe" (I call him "Young Joe") showed up with quite a pair of black eyes.  He's about 62, but he was racing his motorcycle on a dirt oval over the weekend (in an organized race) and went down trying to pass the other 3 guys in his heat.  He was all smiles.  You've just gotta love that kind of spirit.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Good morning. It's 71° with 100% humidity. The word for today is cloudy. No mention of rain. The high will be 88°.
Morning: . Later: .

No plans for today so I'll just be watching some movies and working on whatever strikes my interest. Right now I'm just waiting on the Home Health nurse to call.

Train nut friend is coming over today, after some errands. He will be here for awhile viisting.

I did not sleep well last night, no more than 45 mins at a time. So I spent some waking time playing with the new toys!

later he's here!

The ballast ariived just when we had our lunch - talking about Mr.Murphy!

Well, instead of taking a nap, I started ballasting! First of all, I bought way too much ballast. A third less would have done easily Grumpy. Second, O sclae ballast does spread a lot easier than HO ballast, let alone N scale ballast. It is still a tedious task. In about 3 hours, I have covered maybe 4 ft, including some switches. Now I will let it dry thoroughly before evaluating the job I did .

I used the good old white glue, diluted with water (1part glue, 1 part water, plus a drop of detergent) to glue the ballast, Prior to applying the glue, I gave the track a generous spray with "wet" water. Let´s see how that turns out.

 Morning Folks

 Flo, Dew Pleases.

Did not sleep well last night, with the new set of worries. On paper, I maybe able to afford the house payment, but that is on paper. Real life on the other hand?

My biggest problem is how unstable my inome is. 1 week I might only make $400.00 in base pay only and then net week $600 or $800.00. I do have a nest egg of around $5200.00 so I do have some funds to fall back on. Problem is the wife thinks I should dip into it anytime she thnks she needs something.

Far as reverse mortgages, I will look at a few. If it can save me $300.00 a month it might be worth it. Again, I will not do a thing till my lawyer looks at it!

 See you all later

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, just a refill for my dark roast coffee please, and thank you....

Just got home from doing a sales event for handicaped Cub Scout aged youth at a nearby BOCES School.  We had several of the kids interested in joining.  Remains to be seen if any of them show up at the meeting tomorrow night.

I hope to get one more raised bed garden planted beofre I have to head out to a District Scout Roundtable tonight.  Ice Cream Social, end of the season event to thank all the leaders who make Scouting possible here.  I shall reserve room for an Ice Cream Sundae afetr supper tonight!

Ken, hope you get the finances straightened out soon.  The only reverse mortgage I would ever consider would be one where I sell my house to my children.  My sisters and I did that to help out my Father and Mother near the end of their lives.  My Father insisted that he did not want a formal drawn up mortgage with interest figured in and such.  He just "sold" us the house for $1 and we shook hands on a monthly payment to them.  That mistake cost us thousands of dollars that could have gone to paying for our mother to stay in Assisted Living as we ended up having to pay taxes on the house we "bought" as personal income and couldn't claim the $$$ we had been paying them all that time....  Couldn't tell my Father that though.  We had two months of money left in the account for her when she fell and broke her hip which proved to be the end of her.  What ever you do consult and work through a good lawyer (and yes there are good ones still left out there) and heed their advise.

Catch you all later!

We'll get there sooner or later!

It´s past 7.30pm over here, so there is a Good Evening to you all!

I have done about half of the layout, the rest will follow tomorrow. Looks a little to clean, but some weathering and the odd weed growing out of the track will take care of it. I already feel, that I will have to spend some time getting the layout operational again.  When that is achieved, I will have to revisit the drawing of the engine house. It needs a few touch-ups on the construction drawings to be more in line with this one:

I am not particularly fond of the color, mine will be a touch more to aged, gray wood.

Calling it quits now - I am exhausted and my back is screaming at me from standing up all day long, w*rking on the layout.

Have a good night and CU tomorrow!

Well

Train nut friend left...I showed him how I make my meatloaf..it is his favorite dish, but he never had mine..you know I make it by a little of this, a little of that, some of this, some of that, a few of these and a few of those... he wathced and made copious notes so can replicate at a later time maybe even tonight.

He is now also disabled with a wired up contraption in his back, so he is the "housewife" role now{like me} and his wife is the bread winner, and now has 2 jobs...They are struggling with mortgage issues too. He desn't have much in his repertroir of cooking and what he DOES make he has made over and over so much the wife and kid have threatened to tie him up with the spaghetti and beat him with a wet noodle! The kid si only good for 2 dishes, and train nut frined wants to be able to cook more so the wife doesn't have to work hard all day, then come home and cook all night to fix dinner. SMART MAN!

So, he copiously watched, took notes and got my recipies for: meatloaf, smashed taters, and BBQ'd Chix. I cooked boht the meatloaf and chix in the same oven for different times to cook 2 meals at once, he thought that a novel idea!

Then we watched A TASTE OF HISTORY on RLTV channel where a German chef cooks the way they did in the 18th century over a fire in a fireplace adn behive oven, liek Thomas Jefferson, G. Washington and such would have had cooked or cooked themsolves to serve guests at their respective manses. He was catching on. Will he remember, WHO knows?

So, that is it for now, I have the "never ending chores" {dishes and laundry} going again now.Dishes are down to 2 soaking pieces and laundry down to finishing the dryer load and MAYBE the last remaining tidbits left of another load.

later...dinner tonight will be the mighty tasty meatloaf, smashed taters and corn off the cob!

I've got a good recipie for spicy chicken- "Sinus clearin' Chicken".  Tons of Paprika, Cayane pepper, and other hot stuff.  I did some more work on the club layout today, mostly installing half a bridge and some carpet trees (ground up carpet padding dyed green).  I made a Jimmy Dean Sausage skillet thing for dinner tonight, and that turned out pretty delicious considering how simple it is to make.  We may be getting some rain in the next few hours-and I am glad for that-too humid here, and it's been cloudy all day.  With any luck I may be getting the Monongahela Heritage unit in a town called Monongahela (Yes, not part of the original MGA trackage but still-how many heritage units pass through a town with the same name as the company besides Savannah and Atlanta, Erie, and the Reading), provided I catch it on the scanner a few miles before my usual fanning spot.  Not sure what tonight has in store for me really.

This also showed up in town...I love seeing the history of my town coming out-even better when it is traces of the trolley line with the rail still in the brick

(My Model Railroad, My Rules)

These are the opinions of an under 35 , from the east end of, and modeling, the same section of the Wheeling and Lake Erie railway.  As well as a freelanced road (Austinville and Dynamite City railroad).

well,

since y'all assured me i could do a wifi router without the cable company involved, i have combed amazon, videos on how to set one up for beginners, how to do this, how to do that, read reviews of several wifi's, and now i m thoroughly convinced I am more confused than ever about the matter!

Its like being able to buy any of the 300-some odd models of cars they say are available here..IF money was no object! However would you choose?

maybe I go to Best Buy after the filling at the dentist and look and have the "geek squad" install it?

How do you think I feel? I was a programmer and tech in the 80's and early 90's then got out of computers for a while and the technology ran off and left me far behind in the space of only three years. My idea of a good computer was an IBM XT with a 30mb hard drive. My first new 'modern' computer was a generic type with an Intel DX4-100mhz SX876 processor, Microsoft Windows 3.1, a 3.5" HD floppy drive, a sound system and the FIRST CD drive I'd ever clapped eyes on. You think you're in the dark?

Good Evening,

Just waiting for a shower or thunderstorm here but it was a very nice sunny day of about 80F.

We are getting close to having all the plantings done and next is getting the arbour we bought set up and modified to make it 'hawk proof' for the bird feeders that will go inside it. After that it will be repairing the lawn and so very little, no, nothing is getting done on the model RR, not even running a train.

Ken, as an ex-finance guy, I would say that you should be very wary of reverse mortgages. They do have a use but as far as I can see it is only for elderly people who don't plan on being in their homes a long time and have the home paid off. Up here they just add the interest on to the amount they initially advance and over time that amount increases while your equity decreases so if you plan on being in the house a long time you might wind up with very little when the time to sell comes. Also in Canada there is no income tax on home equity realization so again for elderly people a reverse mortgage can be of some use but not to help fund your day to day expenses.

With all the talk of money, today I got rid of some by paying the house taxes. Quite a lot actually as in 3 grand. No plans on buying any RR stuff for a while.

For my RR fix I have been re-reading my CN Lines magazines. That is a quarterly publication by the CN historical society.

Mr. B, good luck with the retirement plan. Hopefully your company will make you an offer. Funny how a bad thing for the company can be a good one for you. Certainly was true for me. If my ex-employer had been doing well, they never would have made me the offer they did.

Last night we watched a movie that my wife and I both love. It is a French film made in 1954 by Jacques Tatie called Monsieur Hulot's Vacation. It has sub-titles but there is very little dialogue as it is largely a sight gag movie. It is very funny. It even has a few trains at the beginning.

Well time to relax after another busy day of retirement.

Not much going on today. The nurse came around noon and changed the wound vac dressing. It did well at first but is now starting to give me some problems.

Cleaned and repaired another loco that was damaged when the tree hit hit my trailer. It's slow work but I'm getting them back in running order.

I was working with some CP/m programs on the //e this afternoon. Everything was going good then my CP/m coprocessor card died. Pulled the chips and cleaned the pins and sockets but it was still returning errors. There was nothing to do but toss it and pull a spare from one of the other IIe's that had one. Installed it and I was back in business. That's the bad thing about 30+ year old vintage electronics. It can go down any time and there's usually no warning.

Good evening, Diners.

CN Charlie .... Good to see you here. That's good advice to Ken about revers mortgages.

Ken ..... I agree with CN Charlie about reverse mortgages. They are a bad deal, and I would suggest you do not waste time considering them. Also, the new regulations are making mortgage applications challenging to say the least. ........ You stated you have a problem with uneven income. That is the problem to work on.  ..... There is too much month left at the end of the money! ...... Perhaps you and Sue can pool your thoughts on how to solve it. Unfortunately, the economy is just not recovering fast enough to create enough good paying jobs, but don't let that discourage you. There may be ways to supplement your income. If you have a good relationship with your boss, you may wish to ask him for his thoughts. I would be careful, however, because you say your store has low traffic. The company may be questioning if it can afford to keep the store open if there are not enough shoppers. .... Don't forget to take problems to the Lord and keep your faith.

I found a little time to work on the layout. I will be adding tracks on my layout extension I started several months ago.

Happy Model Railroaidng

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer pleases.

I feel pretty good tonight, today was the first day I have not feared what might be in the Mail when I got home in 3 years! Big Smile I am sure that will be replaced next month with wonding how I will make the house payment. Whistling

Garry Far as I know I am in good standings with the owner. He has asked me a for a few thoughts on what went wrong in the Fairview Heights store. Cannot tell him is wife Nancy and Dave are idots! (he may know that with being married to her all theses years) Paul the GM knows that and is far from happy about them 98% of the time. Nancy will flat out lie / makes things up and tells it to the customer.

I guess I could ask if I could work more hours, like I want to? But you do what you have to do! I am 50% sure Paul GM would like me to work at the St Charles store full time. He know I ask for the sale, couple time with grin he as asked me "do you think you asked for the sale enough times". Plus I know I have a good profit margain, many of months I have had the hightes.

Galaxy and others. Yes, I know there are not many houses / aprtments out there the sizes of my house. Believe me I have been looking! Most places in the range I hoped to spend are around 950 SQ foot. My house's is 1515 SQ foot and I am not sure if that includes the 2 car garage?

I will still request some information of the reverse mortgages, but like I said, I won't sign a darn thing till my lawyer looks at it! Is she good? Well it took her 6 months to get BoS to come around, so she is better than ME! Yes

Good evening. It's a nice night here. 78° and mostly clear.

As I said earlier the wound vac dressing was acting up. I finally had to remove it and replace it with a wet to dry dressing. A nurse will come out tomorrow and put on another wound vac dressing. I hope that one does better.

Also reported earlier about the //e's CP/m going toes up. I put in a good one and everything's working fine now. In the event Mr Murphy screws with it I have four more as spares, all tested and confirmed working within the last thirty minutes.

While I had the //e opened for maintenance I removed one of the drive controller cards and two disk drives. The SDfloppy II drive emulator is the lead on slot six with a Lobo drive as #2. The card in slot five has two Disk drives, a Lobo drive as #1 and a Mitac drive as #2.

Cleaned and repaired two locos today. A GP9 and a GP35.

Well that's it. Time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Ulrich- Now see? That’s what happens to me. Things go great (sometimes) and look pretty darn good (fewer times) just like your backdrop. Then I get an idea and try and make it a bit better…., and end up ruining it (most times). Good luck on the second try.

WElp, been up since quarter til 2Huh?. Arm itched like crazy so about 2:30 I just got up and came in here. Stopped itching now so I’m a gonna try and get some sleep before tomorrow. Brenda has an eye appointment with her NEW eye dotor. I guess as a diabetic she has to have one of those now. Anyway thy are going to give her a “deep eye exam”. I thought she  just had one of those, but I guess not. This baby may take from 3 to 5 hours and of cours I have to be there to take her home. Then Friday she wants me to go with her to her dietition(sp). She hopes that’s just a one time thing.

Oh well, gonna hit the sheets again.Sleep

I truely am of late feeling like a dinosaur. Maybe even cro-magnum man! {form the paleolithic period (c. 35,000–10,000 BC) living in caves} I'll bet HE never had mroe worried than where his next non-poisoned meal is coming form!

Jeffrey, you rattled off those "statistics" about your first "modern" computer,,,,...I don't even know those those on my current one! I know there is a way to make it "tell you"..but not how to get there either!

I cna actually find that better on the tablet!

So I am SITLL in the dark! also never learned anything but basic programming..like you say you are using now...and I didn't do that well either!

Good morning. It's 71° with 100% humidity. The high will be 92°.

This morning I'm just waiting on the Home Health nurse to call. A new wound vac dressing has to be applied to replace the one that failed yesterday.

Other than that I have no plans for today.

Afternoon Folks!

Mr. Murphy has decided to stay with us!

This morning, I gave the balalsted track a good clean-up, vacuumed it and got ready for a test run. No derailments - fine, but two switches quit working. The little spring inside the Peco switches must have been dislocated in the process of ballasting. Fortunately, you can open the box holding it from the top, so after a few hours of precision surgery, for which you need a watch maker´s patience, I got those tiny springs back where they belong. After that, I painted the rest of the backdrop, so it is just blue for the moment. It´ll stay that way until I have found out how to make better clouds.

The following test run revealed another problem area. Those little pick-up shoes on the blades didn´t make sufficient contact anymore. A lot of tweaking was necessary to get that fixed.

No more w*rk on the layout today. My back is still yelling at me from yesterday´s and today´s exercise. A day to relax...
