Hello all. I'm back from a rather busy two weeks of visiting, yard work, more visiting and more yard work. Got all the bedding plants planted today which is a task in and of itself. Can't beleive how the price has gone up over last year. Oh well we really enjoy having a park like yard and that comes at a cost.

Spent 4 days in northern alberta with MOH's sister. She married a farmer so she has quite a different perspective on life. Now lives in a small town because with her husband having Alizmiers and in long term care, she couldn't stay out on the farm . Poor lady has had a ton of change in her life in the last year but she's pretty pragmatic about life so she's dealing with it all.

We spent a couple of days visiting MOH's Mom who has bowel cancer and is in a long term care facility as well. Every time we see her, she's faded a little more. The waiting game is really hard on MOH and my SIL.

Sort of gotten used to the new car, although some of the gee whizz do dads still have me puzzled. Have to go to the dealer and get a refresher on some of the stuff. Love the fuel ecomomy though. It's getting twice as good of mileage as our old Envoy. All good.

Got an order in from Woodland Senics the other day. I can buy the usual stuff here because the gammers store carry most of the senic stuff, some being the operative word. The more RR oriented stuff I have to order direct which is an expensive proposition. I usually wait till I have a large order to save some on the shipping. The order that came in the other day ended up costing me $325 with shipping and duty + taxes for not all that much stuff. What are you gonna do though, ya need it so ya buy it.

I got our property tax bill in the mail today. Haven't looked but it will be up about 5% I think. We pay it monthly on an automatic withdrawal system so we don't get wacked with a 2K + bill all at once. Works better for budgeting that way.

Lets see, what else???? Nice day today, 25C calm and high cloud. Think I'll go take by Firebird for a run and maybe take some pictures now that the leaves are comming out finally.

Best regards to all

Dennis

Well Jeff I had no idea . I like your version better. Especially the caboose top over hanging the sides. !

I sought to dress mine up more than the old Lionel model and to make it a much more unique model I added shelf couplers.

Mornin' everyone!

Dark and gloomy here in the Finger Lakes Region today.  Showers and Thunderboomers will be arriving this afternoon.  Currently 55°F with a high of 61°F this afternoon.

As always I have a long list of items needing to get done today.  Have to pick up an Rx at the Pharmacy, Deposit a fairly large amount of $$$ for the Martin Luther King Committee from the dinner, get my allergy shot, go grocery shopping, drive to the Menonite Place for the Moo Poo and do a lot more weeding.  The last 2 will depend on the weather more than likely.  I need to get the garden ready to plant next week!

Tonight I might actually go down to the train room and see what trouble I can get into down there.

Catch you all later!

YGW ....

Regarding the professor, my wife made a clssic comment to one of those self centered people while we were changing planes in a crouded airport. We were waiting in a counter at an over crowded restaurant for sandwiches we ordered for a flight which was about to depart in a few minutes. I big, obese woman oushed against everybody as she forced her way to the cashier as she grumble about people who she thought should stand elsewhere. .... Shelley said to the lady:" Oh. I remebr you. You're the one the wold revolves around." ... LaughSmile, Wink & GrinBig Smile

Also, YGW .... Not sure what you mean about the vampire. ... ACA has already caused significant damge to the economy as it helps a small minority of people and hurts everybody else. The middle class is hurt the most. I don't beleive the numbers stated by the administration because they were completely untruthful when they were selling the ACA. However, let's not allow the conversation to go farter because politics should not be discussed here. ... Regarding your daughter dealing with grief, praying for peace for her. Let her know we Diners care.

Back to model railroading. Currently, I have two Zephyrs running on the layout which are now in WPF.

Happy Model Rairloading

Jeff - what is that in your photo from yesterday a caboose work truck thingy ? Is that one of your faous kit bash jobs ?

If you're referring to this:

yes, it is one of my kitbash jobs. A MoW train work caboose. It consists of a pair of Fox trucks, a Con-Cor 50' flatcar, a Bachmann widevision caboose body and some scratched stakes and slats.

What about if you ground up some balsa wood in a grinder and painted it black ? That might work for the coal ?

YGW - I would have to buy a grinder first. Buying a bag of scale coal will prove to be cheaper, I guess.

Did not do much on the layout today. I just finished the railing, now all I have to do to finish it, is to build the stairs and bollards. Ah, well, and to add the missing planks ...

... and here comes my wood burner turned into a coal burnert, this time with the correctly positioned generator exhaust:

A plague on "affordable health care " !

Be carefull what you wish for! It has a way of boomeranging back to you! SO, If you want "a plague" on you, then go for it!

Same with dealing with the guy!

P.S> It was me who mentioned trials/tribulations with the vampire trying to "suck the blood out of me"...!

I took a nice little nap after figuring out the finances for the time being. WIll do the CU on the way to the Dentist for a cleaning to finish up with the finances!

I have had a day yesterday of trying to keep awake, apparently not sleeping well has cought up with me!

I may go for another short nap before the dentist too.

Good morning everyone. If anyone wants a cup of Joe, donut steak and egg or what ever fill up the tab is on me. Vets to the front today though. Thanks guy for your sacrifice and keeping us safe !

Yesterday was a TOUGH day. On my way to w**k had to change direction from my intended destination and divert to another to address a controling, drama king, Professor who thinks WAY to highly of himself and likes to make mole hills out of ant hills. Just because one of my venders got a little paint on his grass . I have two years to put up with this guy. Keep me in prayer that I can respond to this jerk in a proffessional fashion. After dealing with this then I headed to the second and orginial destination. Amazingly while there the house sprung a water leak from, you guessed it, a sanitary line of all things - yuck - the pipe had been in a year ! The plumber primed the pipe and forgot to glue the stupid thing. Amazingly it didnt leak under test when it was first built !!! Then at home my oldest daughter had a melt down over the loss of her mom . She is in the anger stage now, the second stage of grief. She sobbed and sobbed. She said I am angry my left me right when I needed her the most. The thing that broke my heart is when she said " If only I had not gone to sleep that night I could have stayed awake and not let her fallen asleep and she would have lived just a little longer" the girls were hoping that their mom would be alive for the younger daughters birthday. She missed making it by just a little over a week. The funeral was about the same time as her birthday. I had to explain to her that she did all any little girl could and that the cancer had spread to the vital part of teh brain that controls breathing. It is tough for them especially being 5 and 8 at the time they losted their mom. I think this is going to be a long painful journey.

Ulrich - WOW that doc is amazing. Great job. What about if you ground up some balsa wood in a grinder and painted it black ? That might work for the coal ?

Jeff - what is that in your photo from yesterday a caboose work truck thingy ? Is that one of your faous kit bash jobs ?

Garry - I have a suggestion for teh Ole Vampire - bring a stake and hammer next time. I think they will get the picture !

Galaxy - Obama care has cost me a fortune . When that blood sucking thief implemented that system my insurance deductable went to 10k! per year. I can tell you I know a bunch of swindler who are dead beat and could work if they surgically removed their lazy bone . I burns my hide that they recieve better insurance at my expense and know I cannot afford to go because of the high deductible. My deductible has basically caused me and my family to not have insurance. A plague on "affordable health care " !

Good morning .... Oatmeal and OJ, please.

Tom ..... Sad to hear about your wife's friend. I like the photo of the HiRail truck. I recall driving one a short distance on branch line track one time years ago.

Ray ..... Sounds like you are being careful with the moo poo. Laugh

Jeff .... Perhaps you can name your stainless micro wave. How about the "Sundown Zephyr"?

Ken ... Hopefully, you are pleasantly surprised with some big dollar sales.

Ulrich..... Nothing like a loud storm to awaken you. Get some more Zzz tonight. I have used white glue to hold coal in tenders and it looks good. You may wish to practice on a scrap piece to test it. Sounds like you need bigger limps of coal, however.

Mr. B ... Your Railway Express depot sounds like a good project.

Galaxy .... A lot of wisom in the quotes.

Happy Model Railroading

Good morning. It's 68° with 100% humidity and fog. The high will be 88° with a few clouds.

A stainless steel microwave looks nice when it's clean but keeping it clean is a job in itself. Everything shows up on it and you could drive yourself crazy trying to keep it looking nice. Good thing I didn't buy mine because of the way it looks. I bought it because of the low price and the brand name.

No plans for today. Currently I'm waiting on the Home Health nurse to call (Monday-Wednesday-Friday) so the wound vac dressing can be changed. Anything else will be taken (or ignored) as it comes.

As I recall, Galaxy, poor old Polonius didn't fare too well in the play.  Of course, most of the main characters didn't do any better.  I'm more of a Midsummer Night's Dream guy, though.

Listening to the weather, it's going to be "unsettled" over the weekend.  Sometimes they use that word, but when they keep changing the forecast it means they are really only giving it a best guess.  Last weekend was "mostly gorgeous" with a bit of "partly beautiful" mixed in, although the forecast as late as Friday was raining tabbies and Rotweilers.  We could have either.  I've got to replace a bathroom faucet in either case.

I had an absolutely delicious seafood chowder at the cafeteria here at work yesterday.  It was made to order, with your choice of scallops, clams, shrimp, cod, onions, celery, potatoes and/or bacon in any combination.  Chef Maria heated that all in a frying pan and then added the chowder (heavy cream and clam juice, mostly) to complete the dish.  Cooking it that way kept all the individual tastes distinct.

I'll hopefully be putting the finishing touches on the Railway Express depot over the weekend, and starting on the scenery around it.  There's only one small scene left before all the pink foam on my layout is covered.  After that, it's on to Phase 3, a 3-foot bridge across a new aisle over to some benchwork on the other side of the room.  Given my planned retirement and our subsequent plans to move, it's not clear how far along I'll get with this, but I will carry on regardless.

For loan oft loses both itself and friend."

And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man."

Morning Folks!

I woke up at 3am this morning, as a terrible thunderstorm was right above us, followed by torrential ra*n. It is calm now, and it has cooled off considerably. At 6am, I was so tired that I took a nap on the sofa - I just woke up 1/2 hour ago. This is not going to be my day!

Chloe, although it is not Sunday yet, I need a hearty breakfast, so I hope you don´t mind serving my regular Sunday fare to me on a Friday - thank you!

Nobody told me, that the generator exhaust was fitted upside down - well, I corrected this in a moment. I like the railing on the tender the woodburning version sports, but it would not fit with the plastic coal load. A little sanding and clipping off some protruding thingies took care of that. Now it fits perfectly, but the plastic coal looks rather awkward. Bachmann provides a little bag of real coal to cover it, but I have a feeling that the coal lumps are too small for O scale. It´s more of a coal dust than lumps. I think I will give the coal load a coat of dull black to take awaqy the plastic shine before I attempt to glue the coal down. I also have no idea what type of glue to use - white glue gives it a shine I don´t want. Any idea?

Have a great day!

ZzzZzzZzz  Huh?  What?  Ah,  Hmmmmmm!  I was not snoring!  Oh Janie my coffee is cold, I specifically asked for hot decaf.....  When?  Oh, an hour ago?

Been a long but productive day around here.  I did actually fall asleep sitting here staring at the computer screen for a few minutes....  Blackie woke me up wanting some attention (food actually).  I got the lawn finished, trimmed around everything needing to be trimmed around, and did some weeding of the gardens.  Have much more to do, but tomorrow I may go to the Menonite place and buy some "Moo Poo" for the raised beds.  I put the plywood sections back in the car and covered everything with a plastic tarp in case some of the bags decide to leak....  I also got a bunch of computer stuff attended to.

Jeffrey, sounds like you had a busy day too.

I am heading for bed as I am very tired tonight.  I think all the pressure of the last week has caught up to me. Hope you all have a great night and prayers to all in need!

Eveing Dinners and Good Eveing Ulrich.

 Flo, Beer Please.

Work Front, you can tell a hoilday is near! Bang Head Afternoon I got a little busy, had 8 customers today but only 2 bought anything. Reason I don't like Hoildays? Because they all want to shop all the other sales! If you are the first store, 85% chances they will not buy. But, that was all so what the 2 people that bought from me said as well! Big Smile

VA Care. I go to the VA Hosptial in St Louis, but I live in IL. Frank, I am a Vietnam era Vet but never saw country. I think my covrage is 90%, only thing not paid for is teeth. On big things, the VA as done great by me. Saved my foot / toe and paid for my hand surgery! But, it is the little stuff they drop the ball on! While I have all wise got my meds on time, they let me go (Junk PA In Belleville IL) a year with out a A1C test! Way past due to have my eyes checked!

Well I am bet or I have a few more things to say.

Been on the move today and not much of a chance to do much. Doc appointment this morning went well, then lunch at KFC with my father and step mother, a little time at home then off to my nieces birthday dinner at Las Margiritas restaurant this evening. Got home not too long ago and I'm tired.

Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Evening all. We have had some good news & some bad news over the last couple of days. On the good side, we got an e-mail from my oldest nephew that he has been promoted to Executive Vice President of the telecommunications company he works for. We are very proud of what he has accomplished with his life, He's also getting married in June, so we will be heading to South Carolina for the wedding. We will be seeing him & the bride to be this Saturday as my niece is having a bridal shower here for them. Lots of great things happening in his life.

On the down side, we just found out my cousin was having triple by-pass surgery this morning. It was apparently a must do now kind of thing, although he hadn't actually had a heart attack yet. We are still waiting to hear how things went.

My wife worked with a lady years ago, and they have kept in touch with each other over the years. Talking on the phone at least once a week. She is a great lady who lives in an apartment building & spent her days running errands like shopping, etc, for her neighbors. Anyway, my wife hasn't been able to reach her for a couple of weeks, so we suspected something had happened to her. She is in her early 80's. After making a ton of phone calls, we finally tracked her down. She was in a nursing home on the other side of town. So I took my wife to see her yesterday. It appears she had a stroke & has some serious after effects. Although she did recognize my wife & I. When we got there, she was going to physical therapy. So we accompanied her & spent about an hour visiting. It's really sad, as she kept saying she is hoping to return home soon, but that doesn't appear likely to happen. I understand the need for privacy, but this episode has me wondering if our society isn't carrying things too far. We just got lucky or we would still be searching for her.

Got the flower bed roto-tilled today after adding some mushroom manure & peat moss. Might take the wife to the nursery tomorrow to get her hanging baskets and a couple of flats of annuals. Probably merigolds. I'm getting a little concerned about the cannas I tried to carry over the winter. Don't see even a hint of growth after planting them 8 or 10 days ago. Not really a surprise I suppose, as last year was the only time in 4 or 5 attempts to carry them over in the attic.

Have a good one & stay safe...

Good afternoon. It's 83° with 47% humidity. The high will be 88° with some clouds.

The appointment with the heart doc went well and I got a clean bill of health, at least for as healthy as a person with my problems can be. I got there at 10:17 and got out at 12:45. From there me, my father and step mother went to KFC for lunch. I limited myself to a small meal as their food tends to blow my blood sugar through the roof.

Today is my nieces birthday. We'll be going to a local Mexican restaurant for the birthday dinner this evening. My father and step mother won't be in attendance as he has a 4:30 appointment with the same doctor I went to see this morning.

On the computer front, I got the IIc's disk drive working again. The problem turned out to be a broken pin on the connector the ribbon cable connects to. A quick solder job and it was fixed. I left a post on my forum letting the owner know he can pick it up anytime.

The trailer still stinks of smoke and charred wires after yesterdays fire. The only harm I got is a minor first degree burn on my right hand suffered when I opened the oven door to put out the fire inside. It was hot enough that the revolving glass tray shattered and the coating on the cooking compartment walls was melting and the walls looked like they were buckling. At least I got five years out of it. It sure did a number on my lunch. The only part that was recognizable was the corn and that's only because some of it popped. The new unit is working great so far though the only thing it's cooked thus far is a bag of popcorn.

That's all for now.

The only time I really enjoy watching TV is when my favorite train program is on, but that´s down to once a week since the beginning of this year.

Our cable TV lineup has channels from 1 to 999.  They aren't all used, but most are.  Of course, a lot are pay channels that we don't have any use for.  There is a whole series of channels which are hi-def and lo-def copies of each other, too.  But, I'd imagine that there are 4-500 unique channels that we can watch just by tuning in.  So, why is it that it's so hard to find even one show I want to watch?

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a short stack of Buttermilk Pancakes this morning with real NYS Maple Syrup...  Huh?  Nope no bacon today, I had a nioce big hunk of prime rib last night.  So big I only ate a little over half of it.  Have another (Leftover/unsold) Prime Rib Dinner for tonight as well.

I've already been down to church for a couple hours to watch the hanging of the new speaker in the main array.  It is doing exactly what was predicted it would do and is not causing any new problems so far.  Next step is a new Mixer Board which I am donating to the church.  We will be going with a SoundCraft analog board to replace our old Mackie that is over 10 years old and has been fixed after a lightning strike hit the church a couple years ago.  It is on it's last legs, so the time is right.

Ulrich, 40 channels?  That is about 35 more than I would ever watch if I still had TV.  Over here there isn't much worth watching on most of them so paying a lot of $$$  doesn't get you anything but bragging rights.  I got rid of cable for my TV after figuring out I hadn't even turned the stupid Idiot Box on for over 6 years....  I'm happier without it!

Catch you all later!

Oh, WOw! tippy top for Mr. B's Explanation!

Well, I starved my self and went to the blood-letting to le tthe vampire do her work.

Now, when I get there, I tell her,a s I do all vampires that it probably WON'T be found in the elbow!!! Best bet is  a butterfly in the back of my hand.

Oh, no, natutrally she has been doing this for years...she can get it in the elbow, easiest place to get it, etc etc,...

SO WHAT happens? She gets ONE SQUIRT out of the elbow, not enough to even "fill" the vial!

Then she starts digging around for the vein. At least SHE asked "if that hurt"? No I siasd, but you'll know it when It does!

Then she tries other {L} elbow! SHe gives up nad gets a buterfly needle and gets it near the L elbow.

NOW, I ask you, WHO knows my veins or lack thereof, BETTER than ANYONE ELSE...no natter HOW LONG they have been a "vampire" and "sucking blood"?????

WHY do I have to go through this for EVERY bloody {oh, how appropriate} blood draw and IV insertion?????

GRR, they never listen to the patient!

I came hime, had a nice breakfast and took a nice nap..some dead relatives visited in my dreams.

Galaxy, I know it's your account and your money, but $15,000 is a lot of cash.  I would call the bank the day before and tell them what you plan to do.  That way, they will have the cash on hand and expect you.  When we go to Europe, we always call them a week or so in advance and arrange to get some Euros or Pounds.  That way it's easy for everyone.  When we show up they have an envelope all ready for us, all neatly sorted in convenient denominations.

oh, MR B: That was  a HYPOTHETICAL QUESTION!

I don't HAVE any $15k at all, let alone to withdraw and rub together or pile up and jump nekkid into !

THAT hypothetical Q was a start to the point where banks refuse ,and then the depositor gets panicky, spreads word,  and then that starts a run on the bank{s}.

The banks are supposed to, at any given time, technically have enough cash on had for a few large withdrawals. They no longer do, so cash is disappearing from our society.

How far will you get bargaining for food in a disaster from the man who has it, but with shotguns in his hands, if all you have is a piece of plastic representing a 'NUMBER' of "dollars" he can't touch or bite to see if it is real???

ANd they think "Bitcoin" is a waste of time {I don't own any}!!! {Bit coin: definition form Wiki:

Bitcoin is a peer-to-peer payment system introduced as open source software in 2009 by developer Satoshi Nakamoto.[4] The payments in the system are recorded in a public ledger using its own unit of account,[5] which is also called bitcoin.[note 1] While not considered a true currency, bitcoin is commonly referred to as a digital currencyvirtual currencyelectronic money, or cryptocurrency. The bitcoin system is not controlled by a single entity, like a central bank, which has led the US Treasury to call bitcoin a decentralized currency.MusicBecause bitcoins can be transferred directly from one person to another they are sometimes described as digital cash.[9]

Bitcoins are created as a reward for payment processing work in which users offer their computing power to verify and record payments into the public ledger. Called mining, individuals or companies engage in this activity in exchange for transaction fees and newly created bitcoins.[10] Besides mining, bitcoins can be obtained in exchange for other currencies, products, and services.[11] Users can send and receive bitcoins electronically for an optional transaction fee[12] using wallet software on a personal computermobile device, or a web application.

Afternoon Gang!

Zoe, coffee and a slice of apple pie, topped with vanilla ice cream, please!

I had a couple o senior moments today. The mailman brought a letter from our customs authorities, that there is a parcel waiting which can´t be cleared due to the lack of an accompanying invoice. Invoice? What invoice? I had sent an email to Bachmann USA requesting delivery of some missing extra detail parts and I was expecting them to be shipped free of charge. Well, I had to drive to down ther to settle the matter - a 45 mile round trip for parts worth maybe $  1.00! At the customs office, there was a surprisingly big parcel waiting for me. It took a while to explain to the customs officer, that this is a free of charge delivery, so no invoice . He did not follow my arguments - Sigh! So I opened the parcel and found a complete body shell and an invoice! The invoice amount, however, was $ 0.00. The customs officer was happy, I was happy - until I was back home. The part that was missing was not included! I need that part to convert my 4-4-0 into a coal burner - it´s the "saddle" for the stack. When my BP was finally down, my brain started to w*rk again. Why the heck should Bachmann include another stack if you can´t put it on the loco. Looking closer at the stack assembly, I found out, that the part I thought to be one is in fact two parts - the missing saddle! After 5 miuntes, my loco is now a coal burner! I now have a second loco shell, which I did not need first place. A big thanks to Bachmann, but a Bang Head to me!

After lunch, I started w*rk on the dock, lots of fiddly little things had to be processed. About an hour ago, the job was done and the railing which I had built, was installed. I don´t know what made me do this, but I ran my On30 caboose along the track, only to find out it would not clear the railing Bang Head. I should have known, after having commented on that thread about the French trains being too wide! Fortunately, I was able to partly dismantle the railing and correct it - big sigh of relief!

Here is today´s achievement:
