Evenin' folks!
Janie, just a decaf please.
Jimmy, you know, there are still many, many good people in this world. We just don't hear about them often because what they do doesn't sell newspapers.... I always try to live up to this:
“Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?” ― Martin Luther King Jr.
Had hoped to have some photos to share tonight, but too many other things got in the way. Hopefully tomorrow.
Have a great night and my prayers for all those in need...

Jimmy_Braum I had something really touching happen tonight at work. An older woman on government assisstence, didn't have enough money for her groceries. She was about ready to take it all back, when the man behind her line said he would pay her the amount she was short. He then refused to have her pay him back someday.

Jimmy .... I think other people can follow that man's example. I know when I have done similar deeds, I am promptly rewarded with a good feeling. ..... I recall stopping for gas while on a trip. A poor old man with an old car needed gasoline to get home and had no money. I gave him $5.00 worth of gas. He wanted to pay me back at a later time, but I said if his situation improves to donate the money to a church of his choice. He thanked me, and I continued my trip.
Talking about good feelings, Shelley and I attended a fund raiser this evening for a program which helps young pregnant women to avoid abortions and assist them with their needs if they choose like.
Ray .... you are doing good deeds in your community all of the time, and I bet you have that good feeling.
Also Ray .... I saw Finger Lakes mentioned in Trackside Photos of June Model Railroader
Not much model railroading from em to report. Still catching up with suff after our trip.

Jimmy. while there ARE some good people out there, and I myself have done that to help someone, unfortuantely there are a few people who rely, yes rely on someone behind them in line doing just that for them.
I DO rountinely here periodically suggest everyone do a good deed for someone on a praticular day, and I encourage them to tell us what good deed they did.
More than one person who routinely pulls that game at the store MOH works at have been "banned".
So while it may appear touching, unfortuantely a few unscruppulous people take advantage of it. They expect someone to step up and pay the extra and know the chances of having to pay it back are nil. The older or "poorer looking" they are, the more they can tug at "heart strings".
They will hem and haw about which items to "put back" to reduce their bill to what they can pay for while holding up the line, hoping someone behind them will step up to speed things up and pay for them.
There are also people who "jump line" by throwing money on the counter at the cashier for a coffee or a paper and try to skip waiting in line to pay for it.
Not to burst your bubble, but Please be AWARE of that.
And pay atttention to who these people are in case they are routinely pulling this stunt.
Hi folks,
cheers for the kind words on the progress so far.
Hoping for a bit of help!
I'm having trouble locating what would be common fair large scale industries (rail served) located in the Tehachapi, ce central valley or Mojave area's of california, more specifically in the late 80's to 1995 (my era) The obvious one that sticks out would be a cement plant for the desert areas and something like a produce warehouse for the central valley. Was there any other common industries? Perhaps a lumber yard, chemical plant or plastic pellet facility etc?
One thing I'm thinking of doing is a brewery, because I really want to buy alot of the upcoming BLMA "beer" cars!
Any help would be great
cheers,

Morning all. I work again today from 10-4, so another 6 hour day. I am fairly impressed right now with micromark. I placed an order on Sunday, shipped on Monday, and will be here tomorrow-nice fast quality service. I need to get in contact with bachman to fix my Parie loco (DCC with sound-the decoder fried when I was programming it into the club's decoder library). 35 dollars for the loco to be fixed/new one, so that isn't bad. Desert Industries...Did you think of a cattle yard? what about a farm with rail service using irrigation? If you want a modern industry, try an industrial park-they usually build those out in the middle of nowhere. Or maybe a shipping company. There is something like this in Westmorland county Pennsylvania. It ist eh Westmoreland rail freight terminal served by a class 3 shortline. It's worth looking at on google maps,
(My Model Railroad, My Rules)
These are the opinions of an under 35 , from the east end of, and modeling, the same section of the Wheeling and Lake Erie railway. As well as a freelanced road (Austinville and Dynamite City railroad).
Good Afternoon!
Time for a break!
Janie, coffee and a sweet roll, please.
I was busy from early morning till right now. I weathered the first part of the dock with diluted ink. I put only a few drops of black india ink into a pint of alcohol, but that stuff sure is strong. The wood looks quite seasoned now ...
I also added some details, painted a few things and glued it to the base. I intended to do that later, but due to the weathering, it developed a slight buckle, so I thought it´s better to glue it down and put some weight on it until the glue sets. Pics will follow later.
I´ll have to do some clean up now, just to keep Petra happy....
CUL!
Blessings to all!

In order to keep my position as Master and Supreme Ruler of the House, I don't argue with my wife.
I'm a small town boy. A product of two people from even smaller towns. I don’t talk on topic….. I just talk.
I have the eye Dr in a few hours, in case he dialates my eyes, I won't be able to bore you with details for a long while, although I have heard they now use additional drops to undialate your eyes.
I tore the cornea with a magazine whne i was about 20. It is a source of mild irritation once in awhile, but while i was sick it seemed like a golfball was stuck between the eye and my eyelid. It has since settled down.
Its been at elast probably 10 years if nto more since my last thoru=ough eye exams sans what teh optometrist give you for new glasses, so I am due.
I havbe my usual insurance which I don't think works for that, and we are SUPPOSED to have some kind of {cheap} coverage form MOH's work, but have NO CLUE how to use it. No card came for it at all, and when MOH asked HR about it, thy said "see the handbook"...WHAT handbook??? we got a few papers with the basics of insurance listed on them and a slew of enrollment papers! SO it will be interesting! There is a different insurance coverage for every segment offered!
If I have to, I will pay for it myself. I need to get it looked at to see if more damage over the years or age has damaged it further.
MY GP, while I visited him for being sick, said he "could see it" with just his high intensity mag light, so it might be damaged.
We'll see. If he dialates my eyes, you may not hear form me for the rest of the day {some may be happy at that!}
later
Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, I'll have a short stack of buttermilk pancakes with real NYS Maple Syrup and a pot of Seneca Lake Dark Roast Organic Coffee to start the day, please.
I slept late this morning... Didn't wake up until 9:30 so Blackie got his morning medicine a few minutes late. Guess I needed to get caught up from the weekend. I have to start mowing lawn today if the weather doesn't turn bad.... Only 50°F here at the moment and the temp is falling to 40 by this afternoon. Will probably be mowing lawn with a heavy jacket on.
Garry, I have also been in the position of need. Not money in my case, but one time my VW Bug got stranded on a bank of snow while driving to our parents homes at Christmastime. We should have stayed home as there was a blizzard in progress. We came up route 14 North of Watkins Glen and tried to buck our way through a 100 yard long 2' snow drift across the road. We got through the drift, but the snow packed under the front of the car made the car into an unsteerable snowmobile! We continued right up and onto a 3' pile made by the last snow plow that had been through. The car behind me came through in our tracks until he tried to stay in the unplowed drift where mine had gotten blown up on the pile. He got stuck. The car coming right after him couldn't see and didn't stop, rear ending that car. I had packed a snow shovel so after determining everyone was OK I started to dig out the Bug to the tune my wife was yelling at me (can't say things like that on here...). Farmer who lived right where we got stuck fired up his Ford Tractor and came over with some chains and pulled us out. I tried to pay him for the tow, but he refused and said, "Next time you see someone in need help them. That will be my payment!" We promised him we would, and I have had the opportunity to do just that a few times in my life. If more people practiced "Random acts of kindness, and senseless act of beauty" it would be a lot better world! Yes, I feel good about who I have become at this point in my life.... I know I am not alone here in the Coffee Shop. Hanging around with the good, kind folks who are in here is fun!

Thanks for the heads up! I hadn't get a chance yet to even thumb through the June Issue. Ithaca is on the Southern end of Cayuga Lake. Seneca Falls is the Northern end of the same lake. Nice to see see someone from around here get a shot in the Trackside Photos.
I best myself moving. Lots of STUFF to do today!
Here are a couple of quick shots from today´s work on the dock:
The dock is still a little wet - I hope it gets somewhat lighter once it has completely dried. If not, I´ll use powdered pigments to "lighten" it.
Ulrich, love the little loco!!! Great work on the dock scene so far. Yes, the wooden dock should lighten over the next few days. Even if it doesn't it will still look the part.
The dock is looking good Ulrich.

Good morning. It's 71° with 65% humidity. The high will be 85° with a few clouds.Already been busy somewhat. My father called saying that he needed some prescription information so he can get some prescriptions filled at his present location. So I went to his house, got the information and relayed it to him from there. His reception wasn't so great so I had to do it in the military Alpha/Zulu comm code so there was no doubt that he got every word of it. If I knew the language better I could have really scrambled his brain by giving it to him in Cherokee.Only thing on the agenda today is to complete the CP/m card I was working on yesterday. The processor I have for it came from another type of card (not CP/m) but a Z80A is a Z80A so it should work. It's not like I'm trying to put a 65C02 into an otherwise unchanged 6502A environment. That by the way doesn't work as the 6502A and the 65C02 firmware are incompatible. I'll know instantly when I test it, but as I said, it should work.No other plans. I'll take whatever else as it comes along.

OzJim .... I just returned from the Sonoran Desert, and it might be similar to Mojave. Here are 2 photos. ... poor quality cell phone pictures...
We stayed in the Casa Grande, AZ Holiday Inn and the UP mainline was only a block away. I could see the local train with two old GP40's in addition to through trains. A petroleum products company received tank cars. There also were lumber cars and covered hoppers in the local train.
This photo (poor quality from cell phone) shows the local train running from Casa Grande to Maricopa with covered hoppers for a large fetilizer company there.
Ray .... That's a good story about being stuck in the snow. I suspect the farmer did more giving than taking.
Ulrich .... Nice dock!
Well,
The eye Dr. went Ok.
He said that the source of my irritation is a bacterial infection in my right eye. Probably somehting I picked up when I was so sick and immune system compromised, nad probably on a finger adn then rubbing the eye transferred the infection.
The tear looked OK he wasn't so concerned about that as he was the infection. Eye drop 4 times a day for 10 days then resume my regular dry eye drops.
He said without a thoruough exam he said everything else looked OK, but to schedule a thorough eye exam, that turns out to wait til Dec.! He couldn't do it today, he was over loaded with patients. So no dialation!
Boy it is definitely getting hard to get in to see any DR, and long time for appts to get in these days, and that was happening even before the influx of Affordable Care Act {obamacare} new patients!
Nothing but nap and dinner planned for the rest of the day.
i know, the life of Reiley! Somne people!
I have only been sleeping about 4 hours a day lately, that is starting to catch up to me now.
Back is starting to catch up to me without the heavy duty prescription onboard. Next week I will try it again and see what happens. Till then, have only the back-up script.
Dinner will either be beef ribs, or chicken, haven't decided which yet, Both are pre-cooked so heat-n-eat is in order as MOH gets home LATE tonight.
Have a good one,
Coffee in an Undecorated mug, please.
Saw a beautiful mixed frieght train today. Such a nice mix of different colored box cars right behind the locomotives, would have made a nice pic or vid, but I was pressed for time and couldn't stop this time.
I always help others when and where I can, although never financially. It is not always easy to tell a gamer from someone actually in real need and my priority is keeping my horses fed, as well as myself. But changing some elderly folks flat tire, or pulling an old mail lady out of a ditch with my tractor (yes, I did that) or simply giving a hand every chance I get, that is my norm. Today I donated a couple large bags full of clothes to a battered womens shelter, although had to do so through one of my lady friends, because those places have to be very careful about giving out where they are located, for obvious reasons.
Healing thoughts to those in need.
Cheers! Rob
Horrible day today. absolutely horrible day at work. At least I have my model trains to take my mind off of it, and I do not work tomorrow.

Not a bad day all in all. I got the CP/m card completed and tested. It's good. UPS brought me a box of supplies for my wound vac. The Home Health nurse will be happy to see that. We used the last filter canister yesterday.A friend of mine should be bringing me his Apple IIc before the weekend. Last time I fixed the disk drive. Now it has a memory problem. Probably a loose RAM chip. I'm going to see if he'll allow me to post photos of it. It belonged to his son and he's kinda touchy about that. When I was at my fathers place this morning I put a sliced up frankfurter on the dogs snack plate. She ignored it for a while. Then the cat ran over and swiped a piece! The dog made short work of the rest.Time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow. Here's an AHM C628. The old three pole motor was on the weak side. I had to make a couple of modifications to the frame but I shoehorned in an Athearn blue-box motor and made a set of shafts to fit it. The test of the new drive can be seen in the video below.

Morning Folks, Good Morning Ulrich!
Flo, I will take eggs over easy, bacon and a Diet Dew if you would.
Well back to work, thank goodness I need the rest after yesterday.
See you all this evening.

Yoohoo! Anybody in here? The place looks deserted!
Cuz´ Vinnie decided to launch a special marketing campaign - all the meals will be at 1960´s prices for this month! This should attract a few more customers.
The first part of the dock has become a liitle lighter, not as balckish as it was yesterday - big relief! I finished the second part today. I must have built it three times, as odd bits and pieces came off during construction. The second dock will be done in a different way - I will drill pilot holes into the frame and the pilings, insert a piece of wire and then glue everything together. This should prevent the pilings from falling off all the time. It´ll be a tedious job, but much better than doing a second or even third time around! The jig I made to ease assembly finally was not of much use!
The loco I orfdered has not yet arrived! I called them to inquire about my delivery and they found the shipment, already packed and ready to go. It was sitting under their nose for a week! I got the proise that it will be shipped today, so it should reach my doorstep by Friday.
Thoughts and best wishes to all suffering from illnesses!
Good morning.
Ulrich: 1960's prices is a good idea as long as the food is not 50 years old too.
Ken .... Glad you had a good week at work, and very glad your toe ulcer has heeled. Sorry about the other adventures with medial appointments though.
Happy Model Railroading!
Morning to you too, Ken!
Would you believe it? I am taking a break fromw*rking on the layout. Somehow today´s job was no fun. At least the thing is finished now - I hope it doesn´t fall apart gain.
Garry - the food is fresh. After all, Barry used to ave such an enormous intake, there can´t be any old food
I already went to the grocery store. SPent $145 for not much! Of course the waters I bought cost some, but not that much. I cannot drink our tap water as it is well-city supplied water with chlorine and who knows what else in it! Even the Brita pitchers don't take out the chlorine adequately for me not to vomit. I like to keep at least 4 24-packs of spring water {that may contain who knows what} on hand cuase if the power goes out, we will have water flowing, but it should be boiled as apparently the water supply is on generator, but not the chemical treatment system??? ANd when the electric company or towns pass out water it comes in 6 bottles of the regular drinking size to a household per day. Not enought really for one person, let alone a household.
I see the weather people say the NE will be wetter than usual until the summer when it will be hotter than usual after our rather harsh winter. The drought will get worse for the folks in the SW and Califorinia.
I just caught a program on History channel that points out the US, Europe and Russia {at least} DO have ways of/have been using ways of controlling the weather with weather machines and cloud seeding, ideally to control warfare outcomes. SO maybe there really is MORE to the story of man causing the global warming than just our cars and factories and fossil fuel generation plants. Prehaps our weather is being controlled by someone else. They say they can cause droughts by rasing temps in targeted areas, as well as rain in targeted areas and perhaps cause things like Hurricanes. Not making a political statement, just sayin'! Interesting! And there are no aliens in Area 51!
Ken:If you missed my tale oof woe about the recent trip to the ER..well the night Dr refused to look at me and other arrivals, so he "could get out of work on time", then for a WHOLE HOUR there was absolutely NO Dr. in the ER at all before the Next day's Dr. came in! AN HOUR in the ER with absolutely NO DOctor???? it took 4.5 hours to see the Dr for me, and MOH went back and complained to the Patient advocate too! The ER Dr.s are under contract from a different compnay and are NOT hospital affilitaed! Imagine that! Fortunately, I/we have GREAT regular Dr. {General Physician- GP} who actually listens to his patients adn DOES something! Unfortunately it can also take 2 weeks to get in to see him sometimes! The medical system will opnly get WORSE after the Affordabel Care Act now, perhaps making it not-so-affordable. Oh, and I have heard other horror stories about the VA, apparently it is NOT the place to go to for help. Glad your foot has finally healed...now if we can get Jeffrey's foot to heal...
Well, I don't what other trouble I will get into today. It reamains to be seen. Probably not much as my back is revolting after the grocery store! Without the heavy duty script, I feel it! I can increase the secondary med to 4 times a day but that may still not do it...I have been lucky that it has not bothered me as much as I had the injections about a month ago. but the futher I get away from them, the more the pain sets back in. I have to the middle of JULy to wait for the next set.
We have a Celtic festival/ renaissance festival to go to the end of June,it will be a LOT of stnding/walking and I will be in agony I am sure as too far from last injections and not close enough to the next ones. That is why I go the canes with a seat on them. One for Me with my back, and one for MOH with the hip. CAn't wait! I can wear my KILT! i am looking forward to the festival, but not looking foreward to the agony! WE may have to just go back to the hotel and rest then return to the festival! I am good for about an hour or two, then I am in trouble nad need to sit frequently to say the least.
well, have a great day!
Don't get into more than trouble than I would!
galaxyKen: Glad your foot has finally healed...now if we can get Jeffrey's foot to heal...
Zoe, I would like a bowl of Vanilla Almond Granola, skim milk, and a cup of Seneca Lake Blend Coffee in my R&GV RR mug please. What, you don't take Credit Cards cause we are back to 60's? OK will a few pictures of dead Presidents work? Oh good, I'll give you three pictures of George and you can keep the change...
Ulrich, the wood should continue to lighten for a couple weeks getting slower over that time. I have used the India Ink mix for a long time and it turns out very well, but usually looks too dark at first. Give it time and it should be right on the money!
I shut off the computer at midnight last night after downloading and working with about a third of the photos I took at the convention. Of course it was after 11PM when I got around to start it. Didn't take that many photos as I forgot my camera for the tours on Saturday. I'll give you a peek... The layouts ranged from plywood central (club layouts) to 100% track laid and 100% scenery finished. These photos came from the second layout we stopped at on Sunday. This was a small On30 layout with brass locos, hand laid track, and using NCE control. The rolling stock and the buildings are both kit and scratch built and the track is all hand laid. The layout was featured a few years ago in a Canadian Model Railroad magazine. (Probably not supposed to mention the actual name around here....)
Notice the waterspout. He has it rigged so it moves up and down to "fill" the tender... Below is one of the most incredible rock faces I have ever seen on a model railroad.
Sorry for the poor quality photos. I had to use the flash since I didn't have a tripod. Using the auto setting doesn't give much depth of field either....
Catch you all later!
Good afternoon. It's 77° with 62% humidity. The high will be 85° with some clouds. South winds 15mph with gusts to 25mph.The Home Health nurse has already been here and gone. Different one this time as the other one has the day off.Nothing particular on the schedule today. No projects to work on. I worked on a couple of drive controller cards last night. That didn't go well. There are several chips soldered to the cards. Guess which ones have the problem. Yeah, at least one per card and they're soldered ones. So those cards are going in the trash. No worries on those as they sell for cheap online. If I need one I can always find one there.
