Afternoon Folks!

I went to the home improvement place (the German word is "Baumarkt") and finally bought the boards for the backdrop. I wish I could have bought them in one piece, but that would not have gone into my car. The lttle Volkswagen is smaller than a Mini!

Mounting the boards was done in 15 minutes - the stick and peel fashion. I bought double-sided strong adhesive tape which took care of the job in no time. Unfortunately, the wall is not even, so there is a small gap, which I will fill with putty and then sand it to be as smooth as a baby´s butt.

Painting the backdrop is next ...

Galaxy noted:

WEll, I still have to go to the CU and take something BACK to BB&B. The replacement one isn't good either! Both don't open til 9am.

I'm at work at about 7, but my eyes don't open until 9 AM, either.

Ken, I was at the packie on Saturday last week, and there was a '67 Charger (I think) in the lot, in spectacular condition.  I met the owner inside and thanked him for keeping a nice car like that running.  (Geographical note:  A "packie" is a "package store," a uniquely Massachusetts term for a store where you can buy alcoholic beverages.  The state does not allow even beer and wine to be bought in supermarkets, gas stations or the like, only in packies.  This is supported by a system of "distributers" who are the middle men between brewers and the stores.  Big beer companies are not allowed to deliver directly to the stores.  Of course, this adds cost, making our beer more expensive, but it provides bribes in the form of "campaign contributions" so every time you pop a cold one, you're supporting an army of politicians.)

EDIT:  Looks like I'm supporting an army of hungry train guys at the breakfast table...and the lunch table for Ulrich.  Eat hearty.

8:20 AM here

and I've already been to Wally WOPrld for a few things..why does a few more things picked up there ALWAYS mean I spend more than $50??? Usually it is  $100 so I should complain at about $75, I guess.

Someone mentioned May as an expensive month{and I haven't even bought flowers yet}, I have to AGREE with that! I have to order a few more items online, then MAY's expenses will be done. I will still be paying for MAy in June!

Today should be relatively suny and a high of just 70F! RAY should make some Juice!

Got a coupon for the local big & tall store and another  one, so i should be going to buy a few items there, too. It won't really matter in May of June as it will all still come on the coming statement in JUne!

WEll, I still have to go to the CU and take something BACK to BB&B. The replacement one isn't good either! Both don't open til 9am.

I guess that is about it..should get ordering!

Good morning!  And a good morning it is.  First of all, it's Friday.  The weather is very nice, with dry air, sunshine and a high in the 60s predicted.  And then, my new camera is Out For Delivery, and will show up today.  I'm psyched.

No, it's not a classic Polaroid, although I remember those.  We used to use them as "scope cameras" to take pictures of the traces on oscilloscopes at work for documentation.  They were strictly analog scopes, so the only way to get an image of the screen was to take a picture.  Besides, printers were those giant 132-character monsters with chain drives that printed on green-and-white striped paper.

Yes, Jeremy, I've done bike chains.  I now carry a chain tool as part of my standard equipment.  One day, I was riding with some friends and I actually broke my chain climbing a steep hill.  They rode back to that town's bike shop and bought me a chain tool, which is why I now have two of them.  I haven't used it on the road since.  Back in the mid-80s, the "in" thing to do was to clean your chain and then dip it in liquid parafin, which provided lubrication and some measure of waterproofing.  I had just met my future wife, and I parafinned her chain for her, for her birthday.  Her friends thought that was very weird, but, well, here we are 28 years later.

It's a plain flip-phone for me.  I make calls, answer calls and take a rare picture, but I have no need to go online to see how badly the Red Sox are losing.  I have a nice big TV at home to watch movies on, so why watch them on a 3-inch screen?  I don't need the distraction of a telephone in my car, even hands-free.  A skiing friend of mine describes driving around Boston as "Black Diamond Driving," after the markings on expert slopes, and that should be sufficient warning to keep your eyes, and your mind, on the road around here.

And last but least, I had my follow-up appointment for my "sugar pills" yesterday.  They are working, and my system is tolerating the medication well, so it's time to, as the doctor said, "start taking a man's dose."  I'll be doubling up, which simply means a different pill.  In theory, once my body is used to the lower blood sugar level, I'll actually feel better, not sluggish as I have since I started this stuff.  He likened it to idling your car with your foot on the accelerator.  I should have said, "No, it's actually like having the mixture too rich in your carburetor."  Of course, nobody has a carburetor anymore.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

WEll, Like someone said  here yesterday, I like to watch my packages get tracked across the country!

Though, admittedly it makes one anxious! {at least me anyway!}

The packages I am expecting are real close, and closer.

The Kilt belt and buckle is now in Rochester {or on its way here from there} to be delivered tomorrow.

The ohter package is in Martinsburg WV, so to is closer and expected delivery is Tuesday FedExSmartpost.

The Third package, The {Kilt} matching Vest hasn't even been shipped yet. If 2 weeks go by without it doing such, I will cancel it as I need it by the 25-26 of June at the latest. Maybe for Next year.

Mr. B:{and others}: You are not alone:  I see the Early Baby Boomers are now retiring in droves...thanks to 5 straight years of stock market growth. They had put it off due to the "great Recession". Now , maybe some of hte later boomers {like MOH and I} and the young'uns can get some decent jobs, IF they don't "downsize the pay for it".

MOH is looking inot new job postings at a mass Job fair for the one job MOH  already has.

Dunno!

Good Morning!

The holiday is over and the weather turned nice again. It´s sunny, but too cold for the end of May. Anyways, I like it that way. 16°C is a comfortable temperature for me, as I must have a polar bear in my line of forefathers.

No MRRing plans for today. I am pondering whether to run to our home improvement place to buy two sheets of hardboard for the backdrop. I am tired of looking at the wall with those holes in it.

I am still dreaming of that log cabin by a lake, with that red pick-up truck parked in the drive way (I have yet to figure out why the truck is red - I don´t like red cars).

Have a good day!

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a decaf for me please.

Long day here...  Galaxy,  Yep solar output has been way down for the last couple days.  Less than half what I should be getting on a decent day this time of year.  I will be lucky to break 600 kWh this month.  Last year May netted me 674 kWh. Dark and gloomy.

I got the front lawn mowed, planted one more strawberry plant that I had put in a different box to keep watered and forgot yesterday, dropped off a bunch of Cub Pack Flyers at the parocial School, and got over to the Troop Meeting for a while tonight.  The lady who was going to take the flyers to a few churches didn't show up tonight.  I checked and I never sent her a reply....  DUH!  I sent her an email asking her to stop after work tomorrow and pick some up.  Then I sat and stared at the computer for a while while running off some CD front inserts for Church.  I forgot to get my old Large Diaphram Condenser mic taken down to church so they can use it in the service Sunday put on by the Sunday School.  It is now sitting in my way so tomorrow I will remember to get it down there to them along with the CD inserts.

Oh, Blackie had his Blood draw this afternoon.  He was a good boy and sat still for the doctor to poke his ear.  She took the reading and immediatly showed me.  It was 250!  Last time after a 12 hour fast it was 360...  She said that the high reading last time was likely due to him not being able to have food overnight and the length of time after his last pill, plus the stress of him then having to go to the Vets...  He is not showing any sign of any damage from his diabetes and she said the reading is great for him having food before he came over.  Looks like he will be around for a while (I hope).  He is a sweet little guy!

Ken, is that a new shot of old Miss Lumpy or one from back when?  I remember my BIL way back when blowing those things away from light to light on Main Street Canandagua... With his Jeep!  Ahem.... The one with the Chevy 283 in it...  In 4 wheel drive blowing blue smoke off all 4 wheels...  Of course by the time it got to 50mph or so it was done, but it sure could get off the line in a hurry!Whistling  Janie, get Ken another beerses pleaseses!Smile, Wink & Grin  Put it on my tab...  Hope that certified letter is some good news from the Bank of Stupid for you!

Ulrich, take care of those heart issues!  We want you around for a long time and want to see your new layout finished and in operation!

Time I headed to bed for the night!  My blessings to each of you!

Well, y'all already know what I was up to today with the exception of the movie I'm watching now, 'A Shot In The Dark', so there's no point in going over the other stuff again. It's looking like a 50/50 chance of thunderstorms tonight. I just hope it doesn't bring heavy rain.

Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Good Evening,

Well earlier I did say we were going to a nursery but I stand to be corrected. Five hours and six garden centres/nurseries later we finally came home with a trunk and back seat full of plants.  It made it to 33C here this afternoon which is around 90F I think. I am tired from the driving and heat.

Tonight the North Dakota PBS station runs 2 hours of Doc Martin so I think we will just go down to the basement room and chill out. Chill being the operative word as the A/C has been on all day so it will be rather cool down there. I expect my wife will insist that we put on the gas fire place as she will be too cold.

Howdy, Diners.

Not much model railroading to report. .... Just got back from Nashville where I went Tuesday. Went to the heart clinic at Vanderbilt University Hospital.  I'll be okay, and it's time to get back to normal again.

Thumbs Up

Glad to hear it.

Iam a "light" cardiac case, for now anyway, myself. If we get my BP under control again, it will reduce my heart rate, and with the 2 heart meds I take, I will be fine, too.

Like Jeffrey, I didn't sleep much last night, and so a long nap this afternoon helped,. Now if I can sleep tonight THROUGH the night, I will be OK for tomorrow.

Well I managed to get a couple hours of sleep today so I opened up an Apple A9M0107 5¼" floppy disk drive that needs some attention. The 19-pin cable that was connected to it was chewed up by a dog and isn't serviceable nor do I have a spare. So I was wondering if I could put a 20-pin flat ribbon cable in it's place and run the drive off an X104 controller like a Disk II drive. I never tried this before. I removed the damaged cable and studied the on-board connector. It has twenty pins, same as the Disk II connector and the electronics of the X104 and 0101 control cards is virtually identical so i couldn't see any reason why it shouldn't work. Nothing ventured nothing gained. At the most it could blow the computers mother board, at the least blow the control card or the control board in the drive. Any of these I can obtain and replace easily. So I connected the twenty pin ribbon cable to the drives control board and connected the other end to an X104 control card in my //e and turned it on. It worked! The drive booted the disk and the greeting program came up on the screen. That's great. The drawback of running it off an X104 controller is that I can't daisy chain a second drive from this one. But I can still run them as a set on the X104 controller if I convert the second drive too. So I guess one of my next online purchases will be a couple of long flat 20-pin ribbon cables from Bulgaria.

MR. B: I Know you said " SX170IS But all I saw was "SX 70" as in Polaroid SX70 Land Camera!!! I must be showing my age as I am sure there is one or two of those in museums! It was a stunner when MOH saw a photo of a School bus in the local "hoidy toidy" Museum that said "School Bus, Circa 1970"!!! WE RODE those busses!!! I wonder if your cannon camera's designation has anything remotely to do with the idea of the P.SX70?

Ulrich: there is that pesky "Politico" stuff again! Funny how that subject creeps up often in the Adult world.Whistling

I, too have been tracking packages across the country! One is the proper 2.5" kilt belt, and the other is, uh, um, er, ah, comfy moisture-wicking unmentionables. The Vest to go with the kilt is not shipped yet, though I am waiting patiently for IT, too. The belt and buckle should be here by Sat or Monday as shipped Wed. USPS "3rd day". It is currently in UTAH. IDO hope the vest gets here by June 25th or 26th and actually FITS my fat belly as is SHOULD....

BREAKING NEWS

: A Suspect is in Custody after a crash accident with a State Trooper, apparently the trooper was  a fatality? I81 interstate is closed N bound and backed up from the PA border apparently. Prayers are need! a candle has been lit!

It is a good thing I switched Psychiatrists, as the Clinic I used to go to is now Closing. But who knows how long the current county Mental Health clinic I now go to will stay open? All about Medicaid billing and tax{es} support!

TOM in Pittsburgh: That would be the way I woudl feel iff'en I got a fancy-schmancy new "smart phone" and could add it to my car's comunnications system! My new FLIP phone has about 6 pages of {de}structions {my bro always called them that instead of IN structions} on how to get the "blue tooth" to work form the phone wirelessly to the ear headpiece? I never DID figure that one out, and since i rarely use my flip phone, I let it go!

CN Charley; I am happy it is so warm for you there. Here we have a temp inversion going on and it is not even out of the 50sF!!!! I went to the mailbox in shorts nad t-shirt {fine for in here even without the AC going} and I turned around and came back for long legs and flannel shirt! Saves on the Electric bill not having AC going though!

and it has been CLOUDY for the past few days... WOnder just how much {little} electricity RAY is generating just N of me???

well, dinner tonight will be baked Pork-y chops. {oink oink} Not sure to go with what yet, but that is the meat {no salt added!}.

I’ve had a very good day. A camera case & a t-shirt that I ordered off the internet were delivered today. And it wasn’t raining at the time so neither box got soaking wet for a change. Now for many of you, the following would not be a big deal, but for someone who is as technologically challenged as I am, it surely is. I was able to pair my new IPhone to my Honda CRV. Now I’m hands free. It was very simple & worked the first time I tried to connect them. I figure I’m using up all my good luck, so I’m not going to do anything else but have dinner & read a book. I’ll get back to my normal life tomorrow.

Beasley, I have a similar model and it takes beautiful shots! very crisp and can compare to a SLR camera in my opinion.

These are the opinions of an under 35 , from the east end of, and modeling, the same section of the Wheeling and Lake Erie railway.  As well as a freelanced road (Austinville and Dynamite City railroad).

Ooooh, I'm so excited!  I ordered my new camera last night, a Canon SX170 IS.  I got a bunch of emails today from Amazon, and my toys are now all in "Track Your Package" land.  For whatever reason, I really love watching the progress as they move across the country.  Oddly, the camera doesn't come with a cable to connect it to the computer, so that's a separate package from a different dealer.  And, when I order from Amazon, I collect cheaper items in my "cart" until I've got enough to qualify for free shipping, so I'll be getting a Kalmbach train book and a container of that Pearl Drops tooth pollish stuff that people recommend for quieting down gear noise in older Athearn locomotives.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Galaxy, Wash a new car?!? Trying to ruin it? never wash a car.... That makes all the neighbors wash theirs and it wastes a lot of water! Seriously, think twice about using the pressure washer on the car... I know of some people who wrecked their paint job that way.... The old fashioned Armstrong method using a soft sponge works better. That is unless your presure washer can be turned way, way down, take it to the car wash instead!

Yeah, seriously, I've peeled paint off a car with a pressure washer. If the pressure can't be dialed down at least try keeping the nozzle at least a foot away from the car.

THAT is what i tried to tell MOH!!! Several times, however, the pressure washer DOES has a "gentle cycle" adjustment.

About 40% more, half of that is due to VAT (=sales tax), which is 19% on top of all sales.

Afternoon folks!

Chloe, I'll have hot turkey sandwitch, some french fries and a big slice of dill pickle for lunch along with a decaf, please...

Already did a days amout of w*rk this morning.  Tried to finish the lawn.  Got about 2/3rds of the front yard done, but my toe was starting to ache.  I figured I best give it a rest.  I have also been trying to find some folks to help me get flyers for the Pack out to churches.  Have one lady from the MLK Committee who will get them to a few churches and I am waiting for another person to return my message.  i also sent the DE (District Executive) an email telling him to drop some off at the local Parocial School.  Thewy are an untapped resourse...

I have to take Blackie over for his Blood Work in an hour.  Then back to w*rk on the lawn and some gardening before I have supper and head out to a Troop Meeting tonight.  You know, I'm retired.  Why am I so busy?  Oh, I like life that way!  Yep, your right...

Catch you all later!

And wore my self out! and its barely noon already!

Of course I managed only 2.5 hours of sleep last night!!

I went to B,B&B to return a  shower stand, and buy a new one, also found a neat little solar deck light for by the porch door. Hope it works for where i want to put it to light the stairs. Probably shoulda bought 2 @ 4.99 e.

I went to Lowes to return $27 in roofing stuff not needed. Brand new not used, she had to ask "doesn't fit?" DUH! its not clothing or a window curtain...

a;sp gpt pressure washer soap for the trailer..got the "Krud Kutter for Vehicles and Boats", should work on the trailer, they pictured an RV trailer on the label..plus MOH wants to wash new car with it too.

So I am firmly BUSHED!!!

nap tiem is calling my name...

Went and bought a 45 lb bag of play sand at Home Depot for use on the layout. Tired of spending a fortune on fine ground cover from the hobby shop. My railroad is a mountain railroad after all so sand/small rock etc. fits right in. Pretty much the right color for lots of things as well.

I'd cook that sand first before putting it on the layout to kill off any nasty little things in it.

Well Ulhrich that is fascinating. How did a day thatis a catholic Holiday become a German protestant holiday , bet there is one heck of story there ! What is also of interest is we celebrate in April. I wonder why the wide difference in time frames ? How much does a Euro approved Bachmann cost vs. A USA Bachmann ?
