Jimmy - your are on my list of folks I include in my thoughts and wishes!
Morning all. I am scared beyond belief this morning. I found a new mole, and scheduled a dermatologist visit to get it checked out. Please send the best wishes that this is nothing serious.

Good Morning All,
18F and overcast this morning. No progress to report on the layout as I watched the Uconn game last night and was occupied with the shop and VSCCA club stuff all weekend.
To reply to Ulrich, I hope the diner doewn't fo away but my life (and that of some of the others) is so harried now that I just can't always drop in. For the longest time I was at the counter every morning but now with 10 employees plus races plus my physical therapy I just get streched too thin. One thing we can do to perpetuate the diner is to try to respond to all who do come in the door. We've seen repeatedly that some thought this was a "closed shop" or clique and of course nothing could be further from the truth. In the real world, the CFO and I have been going to the same small diner since before we were married. We didn't become regulars from the first but were mae to feel welcome from the first and it made a diference. We still go there and feel the same even though it's more like only Saturdays when I'm home. On the other hand I go to PT just up the street from the shop and started getting a getting coffee and at the deli next door to PT. It wasn't til my third or so visit that I actually felt recognized. Not sure I'll keep going as it is really just as easy to come back to the shop and make my own coffee. Anyway, perhaps we can try to be more welcoming? Back off Vinnie - we're trying to save your job here. Well back to the salt mines. Cheers, J.R.

Good Morning!
In the past 5 years, this place has never been so empty before. Some of us are battling health issues. In that situation, it is quite natural, that sharing one´s live with the folks here can be the least of the worries one has. Others, who used to be frequent patrons, stop by occasionally. Others disappeared completely, without a word.
Vinnie and the girls fear for their future. This place does not sustain their lives anymore. I have heard rumors, that Vinnie thinks of closing it and move on to a gaming platform.
Folks, don´t let that happen!
Those of you, who have not stopped by for a long time, please came back.
Those of you, who come here infrequently, please come more often.
Let´s make this place into what it has been for so long a time - a place to meet friends, to exchange views and opinions, a place to get comfort in times of grief and sorrow. A place to share, not only our hobby.

The toe was looking pretty good when I inspected it about an hour ago. The swelling is down and the color is looking good. I cleaned it and wrapped it up. However I have a persistent low-grade fever running between 99.8 and 101.2. If that's still the case tomorrow afternoon I'll call the doc and set up an appointment to be seen quickly. No way am I going to the ER just to sit for fifteen hours while they 'get around' to me.No pain whatsoever, no red streaks.Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

BUMP!
Dinner was roast of beast, smashed of parsleyed potato with sour cream, corn.
Dinner is over, and dishes are done. FOr now.
Well
That 4 hours of car searching yesterday wore me out so much I have slept all morning until now. I was up for an hour or so to post my morning greeting, but went back to bed and slept till now {1:15pm}. I could sleep more nad may go back to bed shortly. I had to get something to eat, use the facilities, so I had to get up now I can go back again!
Needless to say I have done nothing.
I did search online at HD and lowes into dehumidifiers. I like HD site in that they TELL you what your local store has IN STOCK and Lowes does not. Lowes doesn't metnion stores except to tell you where the closest one to you is.
The prices don't have seemed to gone up, seem about, no I stand corrected..we paid about $165 for this one, now they are running about $229-$259! IF they would LAST for years, maybe I'd like to buy it more. MAybe this time I will pay for a warrantee if it is offered. Even Amazon is up there...
We will have to go see what is what with them...at the store.. in stock..as we use it about 8 months out of the year! called the store to see hours, and found out they are in stock of at least one I looked at.
Later I think I am yawning too much...
Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, I'll have the Breakfast Buffet this morning (since I didn't much for dinner last night). Just bring me a cup of Marrakesh Express Dark Roast Coffee in my R&GV RR mug please.
Slept like a rock last night! My legs are sore this morning from all the hill climbing with a 100 lb. cart behind me yesterday.... Was a fun day though! Didn't make it to church either this morning. Decided sleep was a more important issue.
I shall spend much of the day "... working on the railroad...". Of course that will get interupted by the daily run to Canandaigua. Sister will be arriving at the Rochester airport Thursday Night. I, of course, have the honor of picking her up and hearing how awful some people on the trip were and how rude they got when she tried to impose all her beliefs on them (which she insists she doesn't do!)..... Ultimately she will have enjoyed the trip enough to schedule another one in the next few months.
Time to see if my legs still work. After sitting a few minutes this morning it takes a few steps to get them to bend correctly and not hurt.
Later!

We'll get there sooner or later!
Good morning. it's 66° with 100% humidity. The high will drop to 62°. Cloudy with a fair chance of rain. with Looks like it might be wet today with small chances of sunshine. I have nothing planned. One piece of good news. I got a joystick for the //e. It's an IBM/Apple type made by Suncom and it had a very good price that I would have been a fool to pass up. I put it through all it's tests this morning and it passed 100%. The base is 4 x 4.75 x 2. The stick is 4" high.
Well,
I HEARD IT HERE FIRST...
It seems people have wanred those with damper basements that the newer dehudifiers DO NOT last as long as the old ones!
Well, We bought a new dehumidifier about 2 or 3 years ago. without looking it up, couldn't tell you. Well, last night because of dampness and musty smell in the house after being out all day car shopping, we turned it on.
2-3 things wrong with that:
1} it did not put out much heat like usual.
2} It did not make drip water sounds like normal
3} after several hours {with 74% humidity according to the humidistat} it had not drawn but a few water drops, not nearly enough for that humidity level. It usually draws a good whole bucket {largest capacity} in less than 24 hours.
SO MOH went to check it and played with the buttons/settings and thought if it wasn't working on "high" so turned it to "low". Later about 1/2 hour later it just QUIT. No button pushing worked after that . the electronic controls {hate those} just went Blank. Stopped deas cold. No warning.
I think it is dead. Probably wihtout hope of resurrection?
Now, we use the dehumidifier a LOT here as we are over damp space/ground.
I DO have an "old one" that might be easy to replace the thermostat either with new one or bypass it to "ON HIGH" all the time. {that is where we set it when we run it any way}. Maybe my father can tinker with it.
dunno. Things just don't last long....anymore...
BUT: I cannot Say I wasn't told that, as I heard it here first on MR Forums!
morning coffee in the diner...
To see me's a real sad sight.I have trouble in standing upright. The cause of my trouble:My back is bent double.Doc' says my suspenders are too tight !
Sunday again! This means I´ll go for my big Sunday breakfast - with all the goodies that won´t do any good to me! Janie, here is my order of bacon & eggs, pancakes, buttered toast & jams, a glass of OJ and lots of coffee to go with it, if you please?
Our weather guessers goofed completely. According to them, it´ll be an overcast day with lots of rain and wind. It´s pretty calm outside, the sun is up and shining and the birds are singing there Spring song - seems to turn into a lovely day today. Good for my spirits, as I am a bit down for not being able to start on the benchwork.
Jeff - that picture you posted shows an irresponsible no-good (beep, expletive, deleted). Please get a doctor to have a look at your toe asap! I am worried about you, pal!
Richard - I saw your post in the Electrics & Electronics section. Most of the answers you got are just "rubbish". Wiring your layout is a simple task, I have sent you a PM with a diagram. Understanding Peco Electrofrog switches requires a lot of "out-of-the-box" - thinking. I got completely lost while drawing the wiring diagram for my rather complicated layout. I posted it on a British forum and one chap went through the pain of drawing a complete wiring diagram for me, which looke quite different from what I had in mind.
Special thoughts for Barry, Johnboy, and Flip!
Have a good one!
howmus I think you should show your nephew the photos.....
Good evening ...
Jeff ... I'm very sorry to learn about the toe prblem. I won't be interested in looking at a photo, but I do care about you.
Ray .... Glad you had a good day.
Galaxy ... Good luck with car shopping.
Cdn Dennis .... I used to get Plaster of Paris in bg bags from the local hardware store, but they quit selling it. I though about having them special order some for me, but instead bought a bag of drywall compound. It worked fine for me.
Today was a day for outside yard work. Feeling muscles now.
My Tsusami decoder was returned from Sountraxx where it was "repaired". ... Looks like they rpelaced with a new one. I'll reinstall in my 2-10-2. Not much else to report.

Jeffrey, watch that toe carefully and get thee to a doctor if it doesn't heal up right and soon! We don't want you to be hobbling around on two stumps do we!!! I think you should show your nephew the photos.....
Sure been a long day around here. I made it to RIT about 5 minutes to 8AM. of course it was a quarter mile uphill walk to get my hand truck up the hill to the Student Union Building where the meet was held. A heavy cart with two large full plastic tubs, the box with the name tags, my laptop computer, and my camera bag. I was winded by trhe time I got half way up there but kept on hoofing. Man, am I out of shape... This Spring I will start walking again (just as soon as it warms up above freezing that is...).
Meet went very well and the classroom we had was perfect for it. Very easy for all to hear, tables, built in projector with computer hook up. Only had about 25 people at the meet. A bit low from what we have been getting, but a great group of modelers. Had a couple new faces that seemed to be having a lot of fun! This morning it was quite windy with rain and sleet coming down so that may have affected attendance. I gave a short powerp[oint presentation on the Region Convention coming up in may. Will be held at Niagra on the Lake in Ontario Canada. I also gave a pep talk on the fact that our division is hosting the 2015 Region Convention next April at RIT... Actually had a couple people come out of the woodwork to say they would help.
Stopped at my sister's house on ther way home from Rochester to clean the cats litter box. A friend of the sisters (and my SIL) stopped by to feed them early afternoon. Got home here around 5PM. Put a chicken breast in the oven to bake for dinner. I had just got it out of the oven when I guy who lives in an appartment building around the corner from where I live was walking down the street as he often does. This is a gentleman who is a member of the RR Museum and loves trains. He used to do professional lighting for theater productions so we have a lot in common. I noticed he stopped and was looking at my house a couple of times as he rounded the corner. I was just about ready to put the chicken on my plate when I hear a knock on my window, and he is grinning from ear to ear staring in the window. I motioned for him to go around to the door. He stopped by to tell me he just bought the house across the street from me. Now we will have two train nuts on the same street here in town! I had him come in and showed him the trains. He had never seen the layout before and seemed to have a great time... Once I get to operating the layout he wants to be on crew. I have several people already lined up for the crew and I am still probably a year away for formally begining. The chicken is in the fridge and will be tomorrow's lunch.
Speaking of the layout. I did a bit more on the bridge, and took it over to test things out and get the angle measured for the ramp up to the main deck of the bridge..... Looked at it, scratched my head a bit. Tried a few more angles and scratched my head some more. the bridge is not going to work in that area. The ramp up on the bridge will be too steep and the width of the bridge will not leave much space for vehicles to go around the Blacksmith's Shop like they need to. Sooooooooo, The bridge will be saved for another location and the road will dead end at the Blacksmith's shop. Now I can move to getting the scenery finished and get this project done!
Guess I have rambled on long enough.... Must still have some adrenaline left from the Meet today... Prayers for all in need (specially Jeff).
Jeffrey: People who have never felt pain or have not had extremity "non-feeling" have NO CLUE what it is like. Your nephew is young yet and may he never have more than a broken finger. The beer will see to that, he will be so sloshed nothing will bother him.
My father never understood A} pain: as in severe pain; and B} gallbladder problems; until his had to come out and was giving him constant severe pain. It took 5 years for the medical idiots around here to decide MY gallbladder should come out. The pain and agony in between were excruiating as My father found out.
So your nephew won't until it happens to him.
Next, Jeffrey, make sure you see the foot DR. ASAP!! We DON"T need you losing the other leg! One is bad enough, but boht? hard to deal with. No, I don't want pics. I got a graphic image in my mind reading your description!
Well, About time for bed, just checking emails one last time after SUZE.
See you in the Early AM.
Well, more bad news to spread around. I discovered yesterday that the previous days work has slowed me down a lot more than I thought it might. My left big toe is ripped wide open. It doesn't even look like a toe anymore. Looks like that ladder work has been pushed far into the future. I just hope my over-roof holds out. I've taken some photos that I'm gonna print out for my father so he can see it for himself. The envelope will have a warning. Open only when you think your stomach is strong enough. I've had a lot of experience with this before so I knew what danger signs to look for when I examined it. There's a lot of swelling, maybe a fracture. I can't see any sign of an infection. I cut away any flesh that looked bad or dead. I've cleaned and it and changed the dressing five times in the last twenty hours. The last about ten minutes ago. Don't worry about it causing me pain. I've never felt a thing, even when I had to cut deep with a scalpel to get some suspect flesh out and pry the toenail out because there was a bunch of nasty looking stuff under it. I'm not going to post the photos here. They're TOO graphic! If however you think your curiosity is going to kill you, you know how to PM me. I warn you. Have a bucket to catch your cookies. I warn you now. I WILL NOT be responsible for any injuries whether physical or mental that you cause yourself. Now you wanna hear something completely asinine? My nephew thinks I invent this stuff to get others to do my work for me! Him whose never had anything worse than a broken finger. How's that for an idiots opinion?
Today had it's ups and downs. Great day for a bike ride (up) and epic fail with my attempt at building a layout (down). I posted the details of the failure in the Electronics forum. I am frustrated and hope that everything I have done thus far in laying the track has not been for naught.
Richard
Finally broke my nephew down today. Went over there earlier to have it out with him and that I was gonna start playing dirty pool. He waved me off so I came back home and waited until the party started up over there and then invited myself. He told me to leave a couple times but I told him if I did I was coming back with one more person every time. Basically I was being a pest! It finally got under his skin. So he's getting his gas and saw ready to work tonight. If he doesn't I WILL BE back at his door with shoulder clappers. He hasn't respected me so I don't see why I should respect him. Here's the source of my irritation:Remember the little Redneck buggy? It dropped a CV axle today. He should have it going again in a couple days. You guys ever seen a scooter like this one? This thing is downright weird. Ride it like a combination skateboard/scooter and it turns like a skateboard. I told the kids nobody would see their faces and I'm keeping my word.I hear a chainsaw revving up outside so he's either gonna work on the tree or come through the door.Well they cut up the part that was the biggest problem. Took them less than ten minutes! As is usual for him he got somebody else to do the work for him.
well
We went car shopping today. MOH had today off so we went looking. It was a purely "gathering information" day. WE may nto buy for a year, but MOH wants to llok adn be "impresed".
We were MOST impressed with the Nissan Sentra, Special Edition!. It was ROOMY! DId not feel cramped at all.
We were LEAST impressed with the Chevy Cruze, which, after I got in it, I had trouble getting out and I had the door open all the way.{remember I am handicapped and get around with a cane}
The Mazda 5 was OK, not roomy enough for me on the passenger side, though, and had a feature that you have to push the "power unlock" button before you release the door handle to get out! It basically locks you in at all times untill you push that bloody power door lock buttton!
The Mazda 3 didn't spark much interest in us, and was "crowded".
MOH was not interested in the Malibu, and the Impala, well too many have had problems with them, but naturally the salesman said he has one "with 145K miles and only spent 1k on it for maintenance". He must not do tuneups either.
We are, of course, both used to minivans. They are boxy and roomy. We don't like so much the "cockpit" where you sit in it and down into the controls and the middle consoles...
Had we had the Kia paid off {soon enough we will} we would have bought the Nissan right then. The "special edition" model or not. Temping to put less down on it and pay off the Kia too. But we need the whole amount to put down really.
So we have to now go scour the Nissans for good deal, and try out the "regular" Sentra.
So that was our exhausting day.
Now for dinner is leftover meatloaf...
later..
P.S.: That explains where train money and the money to expand my 3.5x5.1 layout goes! Although, I cannot add space either for the layout until we get a basment...a dry one too..

Well, decided what the heck. I got out a computer and my test monitor and tested the disk drive. It works like brand new and the eject mechanism is smooth and firm. It's a real pleasure to use.

Jeff .... I see Sundown Shops has another Frankendiesel for us today.
Ulrich .... Nice house. Np need to mow the grass there!
Good morning. It's 60° with 100% humidity and patchy fog. That high will be 75°. with Some rain this morning with a probable thunderstorm this afternoon. No plans for today. I may get around to checking out that disk drive. Depends on how I feel later. Right now not feeling too great.A Roco FP7 that has a dirty secret. It has an Athearn blue box motor. The proof is below:
Don´t know what the day will bring - I sure wish the phone would ring and it is my friend calling, telling me he has time to spare to w*rk with me on the benchwork...
He´ll be gone on vacation starting next week, so if we can´t make a start today or tomorrow, I´ll have to wait for Easter to come. I thought I´d have the track up by then ...
galaxyUlrich: I know you probably still like the Whidbey!
Well, Galaxy, those houses aren´t bad, but they don´t have the character the Whidbey has. For me, they´d be a place to dwell, but not to live in - I think you get what I mean. I am aware that anything just a little "nicer" adds a lot of $$$$ to the bill and it may be better to have a simple house than none, but I don´t think I could develop this " I am home feeling " in any of those. If I had a piece of land and the necessary bucks to spare, I´d move right into the Whidbey. And so would Petra.
I could also settle for something like this:
It´s Saturday, so I better get going! There is a short HD list to w*rk down ...
CU later!
