JeremyB,
Will it spin with half the weight removed? Sometimes they will spin, if you help it some. Transmission went south, or the solenoid that shifts it. They do have transmissions in them, when they really go, you will see a puddle of oil under the machine. Been there done that!

Evening guys.
We were up early today to go out and get some stuff from the store. Stop by mcdonalds to get a mcmuffin and coffee, first time I have had mscdonalds in probably two years. Was pretty good. On the way home we stop by the vaccum store to order a new filter ( nobody stocks them )
Went to do a load of laundry and the washing machine died. It has been on its way out for alomst a year now but today was the day. It will fill, agitate, and empty fine but just wont spin. The belt on the motor is fine so dont know what it could be, It has sounded like a freight train for a few months though.
So no we have the fun of trying to find a new one, there are a million different ones out there. In the meantime we will have to either go to family members or laundry mat or ring everything out by hand, lol. The last one does not seem all that fun,lol

The mailman came today, and now my collection of locomotives & rolling stock for western Pennsylvania has grown by 1 box car. It's an Atlas 50' Berwick lettered for the East Erie Commercial Railroad. The car is nicely detailed & painted, with seperately applied grab irons, air hoses, etc. I'm always happy when I see the major manufacturers doing the short line & industrial railroads. Hurts the wallet though.
I have used the same tax man for quite some time now. He's very reasonable and I figure he has saved us quite a bit of money over the years. Plus, I don't have the aggravation of trying to figure out the mess they call the "Tax Code". Both state & federal. I admit my taxes are a lot simplar than they use to be, but it's just easier to let him do them.
The wife want's to go to the "Mall" tomorrow, so that will use up most of the morning. I suppose we will get breakfast while waiting for the stores to open. Oh well, I should get a couple of pairs of jeans while we are there. Might stop and look at new smart phones, and what pricing options are available. Everyone have a good one...

Heartland Division CB&QJeff .... Ibet your U25C is a good puller.
Howdy, everybody ..
I did not receive a reply from my last email to JohnBoy. I just now sent another email to him. Getting concerned. Prayers for him.
Lee .... Glad marriage is doing well for you and Dorothy. As for taxes, they are a pain to prepare each year although tax software is very helpful.
Mr. B .... We use the H R Block tax software. We do ours, on of our daughters, one of our sons, and my mothers each year. My opinion is a sasles tax would be more fiar for everybody. Also, government spends too much money on non-government items. Our son's business in Cincinnati is doing well, but the taxes are time-consuming.
Todd .... Is Chinese food on the menu again?
Jeff .... Ibet your U25C is a good puller.

Taxes and ski season do not mix well. My weekends are spent on the slopes, and I don't have a lot of time in the evenings after work. I've had to file for the extension more than once, simply to get a weekend to get them done.
I've been using TurboTax for years. It speeds the process a lot, because it remembers all of last year's stuff, and once I do the Federal form, the Massacusetts form is almost complete automatically. For a few years, I had a benefit from my job that was called "Tax Advice." Basically, they paid for someone to do my taxes for me. But, I still had to gather all the information, and then I had to put it together so they could understand it. Seriously, that was more work than typing it into TurboTax myself. Besides that, most of the returns they filed for me came back with nasty-grams from the IRS saying I'd done this or that wrong.
I do my daughter's taxes, too. Hers are easy, and she gets all her money back. Back when she lived here in Taxachusetts with us, her form was 5 pages. Two were the standard tax stuff, but the other 3 were the required "verification of health insurance."

howmus I also try to have enough taken out of my income to get just a bit back in a refund. (About $500) Anything more means you could have had that $$$ sitting in your own account earning you ¢¢¢ during the year.

We COULd have a change of status to give us more take-home, however: We did not know how things would go with the two jobs MOH has now {double deductions}; with the disability I have, it could mean paying taxes on some on my SS if MOH makes more than a certain amount {it is now so high we may not realize that issue}; and a few other nitty gritties that we never manage to do right..so Jackson Hewitt to the rescue.
Strange thing is I USED to always do my own taxes and did them well I thought, but the first time electronic filing became the way for NYS, we had them done, and found out curiously enough that the 1040 EZ OR even the 1040A often does NOT give you the added deductions the 1040 does!!!!! we got back quadruple that year on the 1040 over the 1040EZ from the previous year for nothing much changing. The EZ is a RIP OFF! Had we NOT gone to J-H, we would never have known! This year we were mired in many sources and such including unenjoyment, so we wnated to be double sure we had it right.
RAY: PM'D you!
Well, I went to the grocery store, Spent $50 more than I intended to. That sometimes happens. But I didn't think I had spent over $110-125.

Taxes..... My CPA died several years ago. He was good and did not charge nearly as much as most of the ones around these parts. Back when I had the buesiness and things were fairly complicated I thought it was best to have them done by a professional. I did notice that all he really did was ask me questions and fill in stuff on his computer. I got to thinking that I could probably do that myself, so when he did the final kick off, I went with Turbo Tax. No more difficult than it was to lug everything over to the CPA and have him ask me the same questions the Computer Program asks me.... Cost me about $64 this year for the updated program. I also try to have enough taken out of my income to get just a bit back in a refund. (About $500) Anything more means you could have had that $$$ sitting in your own account earning you ¢¢¢ during the year.
I need to get busy! I have way too much stuff to get done in the next few days. Better get going.

Good morning. It's 39° with 98% humidity. The high will be 68° with bright sunshine.I don't see a single cloud this morning. I do see that bright yellow disk that's making my video screen hard to see. The blinds are closed (as they always are) but the sunlight comes in through the gaps between the blinds.I have nothing planned for today. I may do some light work outside later.

V8Vega I got my income tax done today and am not pleased. I have to pay more than I paid for two of my old cars. Plus I had to pay him $600, he used to charge me $450 and last year my return was real complicated so he charged me $600, I thought he would reduce it back down but he didn't. He broke his hip recntly and is back on the job but is well past retirement age, I think I need to find a new CPA. He got married a few years ago, its nice to be rich, you get pretty wifes that way, she must be 20 years younger than him. She works as the secretary.

Taxes, as you should know is a racket. Like about most anything else.
At least you have the $$ to pay your taxes {it sounds like} and to pay your accountant. I have 2 sets of friends, BOTh of whom owe the IRS huge sums of money! One pays a rdiculous amount {like $5K or $10K a month-he is a higher earner} and the other got it down to just $3500, but in a year or so it has gone back up to $5700 again with interest! I told him at The $3500 level I'd have done anything to get that $3500 paid OFF, even if it meant borrowing at high interest rates! The other seems hopeless, but bungled finances caused that issue.
I know another who has a rental property who doesn't really care so much if it isn't fully rented, as fully rented it means quarterly payments and higher tax bracket. One almost wonders why he keeps it.
I only owed the IRS once, and only a few dollars {below $100} but it got paid the next year out of my refund.
We get back a sum, fortunately, but no where near the "national average of $2400"{we could only wish for that}, and are happy to do so as then we have a chunk o' money coming every year. It gets saved for better use. Low income and not owing a lot acounts for that. Being on the Poor scale allows that you don't owe a lot.

Evenin' folks!
Janie, my decaf would be good right now... Maybe a couple of the chocolate chip cookies to go along with it.
Been a busy day around here today. I got the grocery shopping done and put away before lunch then had to head out to mt sister's house. Somebody asked if her cats still remembered me and are friendly. Well... Claude, the big tiger, greets amd at the door every day, leads me out to the kitchen, then waits for me to give him his food and scratch his ears. Clim, on the other hand, I have seen only 3 times, and each of those times he was hiding in the nest he made for himself behind a bunch of my sisters artwork down cellar. His food gets eaten but for the last couple days I have no idea where he decided to hide when I show up. I think he thinks I want to catch him and put him back outside.... I hope he will decide I am OK before my sister gets back home as he is a very sweet cat once he decides to trust you.
This afternoon I checked the name tag collection for the Division and made new ones for some new members who have recently joined and got rid of some who have dropped their membership. Guess we are doing OK as there was one more new person joined than ones we lost.... Got down to the train room for a while tonight and finished the plaster cloth around the area where the Blacksmith's Shop will be. Also got one side of the sign done with decals I printed. Tomorrow I will do the other side and when it is dry dull coat the whole thing. Then it will need some detail painting and then it can be installed on the shop. That means the Blcaksmith's Shop will finally be finished!!! I also used a bunch of "O" scale rivit decals to pose as lag bolts on the trestles for the King Post Bridge I am building. You want tedious? That is Tedious!
About time to call it a night! Hope each of you stay safe and warm! My prayers for those in need...
I got a box in the mail today. It came from Colfax North Carolina. It had two rolls of an adhesive backed material in it. White on the facing side, gray on the adhesive side. I took it outside and applied half of it to the most badly damaged area and on a suspicious area of the bottom of the window that looks like it might have a split seam. I still have one roll left. I'll look for a place to apply it out there on a warmer day. Today there was a frigid 20mph wind coming off the lake and I was freezing my butt off out there.Played a game of Starfleet1 on the //e this evening. I lost at the last moment. I needed 25 enemy ships, I had 24. I was lining up #25 for a torpedo shot when a cloaked ship showed up and they both hit me right then and blew my shields away and destroyed my ship! Boy, that sucked rotten eggs! The low tonight will be 40 and it'll be mostly clear. The wind will shift from north to south after midnight.Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.
Well here's a nice clean joke about something that actually happened. I know because I was there. Peason Ridge at Fort Polk Louisiana is swarming with activity at any given time. The spring/summer of 1980 was no exception. I was on perimeter guard, it was the middle of the afternoon and the war games were raging all around me. Soldiers running this way and that, Jeeps flying both ways on the roads unless there was an officer riding in which case the driver was trying his best to reach warp two. All of a sudden everything comes to a screeching halt! In the silence there's a familiar tinkling sound going through the air. The next thing I know all the soldiers are running up the hill to greet the Ice Cream truck!
Good Evening!
Flo, I am hungry! How about some and a for me, please?
I am finally done with that translation. What a job to do! Translating from german into English is a lot more difficult than the other way around. Add to that the usually senseless marketing blah blah, and you get a feeling for the task. It´s all wrapped up and sent away!
I am quite tired, so I will call it a day and retire to the sofa, watching the idiot box for a while.
Galaxy - thanks for the kind offer! Actaually, there is a minor item I can´get here. I don´t need it right away, so I may come back to your offer in due time!
Bwanas Natchez, as we Irish say today
Well
Jeremy B: I have been adn am still going tgo have to wait for winter to be over! They are saying below historical average temps through the end of April! not by a little...by 10-15 degrees F! Instead of being early 60's at the end of April they are still forecasting calling for 40-45Fs!
ULRICH: good you got some pocket change to help finace your layout. {BTW if you need something minor, you can PM me and we will see what we can do.}
Jeffrey: trust me i don't do no pinching! I wonder if he meant "pinching beer"? I won't be pinching THAT either. never was a beer drinker, green or otherwise! Now wathc out cause the ladies heer in the diner DON'T ALLOW PINCHING EITHER!
Well, cleaning the kitchen cupboards again.
BEst get to it again.
Jeremy, I' a skier and I'm ready for winter to be done. We were up at Sunday River in Maine over the weekend. Saturday was pleasant, but Sunday was bitter cold. I almost gave up, but it did warm up a bit, the sun was nice and the snow was really good. Besides that, everyone else gave up, so we had the mountain to ourselves with no lines.
Tom, we had a parakeet who had quite the personality. We've had other parakeets through the years, too, but they were all just dumb birds. Blueberry was a member of our family. We generally left his cage open and gave him the run, er, fly of the house. He always found his way back when he got hungry, but when we were around he preferred to land on our shoulders, or eat spaghetti off our plates at dinner. In the morning, my wife would make him a tiny salad for breakfast, which he loved, and she would leave the faucet running, just a dribble. He would sit by the running water, duck his head under and "take a shower" for a second or two.
Lee -It is good to see you back. So what's new in the world of bridges. Every year Pennsylvania awards grant's to railroads for various projects, and one of the articles I read this year was money to replace some wooden trestles with steel ones. Naturally, I can't find the article now. Don't think it crossed over any water ways though.
Ray - I was going to ask if you and the other cat were still friends. I had dogs most of my life and no one will ever convince me animals don't have personalities. In fact, I'm pretty sure our last dog had some mental problems as well. What a character. She had us laughing all the time.
We went back out railfanning again yesterday. Not as much traffic as on Saturday, but we did catch another heritage unit, the Central of Georgia. We were going to leave for home around 1:00, but decided to stay another 15 minutes. Good idea as she went past at 1:05.
Went shopping and ran some errands this morning, and now the laundry is on the agenda for the rest of the afternoon. Everybody take care...
Lee! ..... Good to see you! What's new?
Everybody: ... Happy St. Pat's day!
22 here right now....
So why are all the option buttons in Chinese?
Mornin' and the Luck of the irish to all...
Zoe, Green Eggs and , ah, Ham along with my dark roast coffee... Huh? No! No! Ham not the other stufff, HAM!
Currently 18°F here on March 17th... Going to get all the way up to 27° they say. Don't think Spring shall ever arrive here in the Finger Lakes this Year! At least the sun is shining for the moment out there.
Have to get the grocery shopping done that I was going to do yesterday and didn't. Catch you all later!
