Gee, 70 is only 3 years away! Then you can "fully retire"....so the 'experts" say.
WE WILL SHARE YOUR SNOW, or rather, we will send it on to you! Aren't we all the lucky ones!

Happy Monday! I turned 67 yesterday. I spent the day on the ski slopes. Colder than I would have liked, but the snow was good and the crowds weren't too bad. I avoid the bumps, but other than that I'm still skiing black diamond trails.
When we got home, I had an envelope from my employer in the mail. It said "Important Benefit Information Enclosed" and "To be opened by addressee only." Could this be the hoped-for voluntary layoff that would give me a nice retirement bonus? No, it was just something about car insurance. Foo.
New England remains cold. We're supposed to have a brief warmup this week, followed by, you guessed, more snow.

Good grief, am I bored!
I am all itching to get started on that benchwork for my layout, but I cannot get hold of this carpenter friend of mine. Don´t want to bother him, as his wife is just undergoing chemotherapy
Made a drawing I can use as a reference. The benchwork will be of the open grit-type, so a more traditional approach the the issue. It´ll be made out of 10 mm so-called multiplex plywood, which is much stronger than regular plywood.
Galaxy - old Murphy striking again. As soon as I have saved up something, an unplanned, but needed expense pops up and "Poof" - there go my savings...
Ray, how does 70°F and 11 hours of sunshine sound to you? That´s what we are enjoying over here. Have not yet changed the clocks - that´ll happend on the 29th. We from the Old World are always behind, y´know:
Have a good one!
Well
I am $750 poorer. The brakes have been grinding noises for a bit and the peddal was getting squishy. Well, they said what they did before I bought it was to replace the pads only, leaving the original rotors. Those rotors were rusty, worn and getting grooved because the rust, was what was the grinding noises source was. SO, the rotors were the issue, and "from a safety standpoint they are probably alright, but..." So, he said up to me to replace or not. The "probably" is a chance I didn't want to take, and I had already budgeted the next 6 months {intrest free on the card} for payments on the brakes if necessary. SO I replaced them. "It'll only take an hour and a half.""get you outta here by 10:30". Yeah, right, 3 and a half hours later I got my van back. The new rotors, one was a bad one, so they had to wiat for a replacement for that one after the test drive! I get a $50 check back so the about pays the rediculous taxes I had to pay {$55.00}.
So I have not gotten anything else done and soon MOH to be home for "break"too.
Now though, I know the breaks are done, and will last another 5 or so odd years as much as it gets driven. Next month is insepction, I tried to get them to do it today, but they said "wait til next month". That fee will come out of the "vehicle savings account". Hopefullty it will pass with flying colors..having just bought new tires {another $600} and the breaks now, I know 2 items that will pass with flying colors!
Now, no MORE vehicle expenses until these are paid off, please! Then it will probably be the caravan's breaks. And a choice to do them or nto and trade in for new vehicle...
Dunno. lessee, 6 months puts us into Sept for the brakes to be paid for. Hmm
Now for the vet appt, that will be a couple weeks away too. "earliest we can do".
ANd my teeth appt, pay up front and get reimbursed later.
Well, later gotta get someptin' to eat.
Good morning. It's 51°F with 100% humidity. High 75°F and cloudy.Morning: Afternoon: No plans for today except to rest. Not feeling good.
Mornin' diners!
Zoe, I'll have the #2 special this morning, over easy on the eggs, sausage, home fries, and a double order of sour dough toast.
I have already spent an hour on line sorting a problem with the Pack/Troop I am commissioner with. The treasurer recieved a Nasty Letter from a Field Director at the (not so) local Boy Scout Council about non payment of the $$$ for the Popcorn Sale last fall. Only thing is she has never recieved an invoice, and since most of the Scouts have their membership costs paid for by a State Agency all checks written have to be invoiced. She is one ticked off lady at the moment, and so is this Commissioer.... Our DE is trying to get us calmed down I might say..... I will pursue this topic at the Council Level when I get the chance. The Field Director seems to have forgotten we are Volunteers and he works for us, we do NOT work for him! OK, I see Vinnie getting up... Shhhhhh....
Today may get up into the low 40's here in the Finger Lakes, but it ain't gonna last long. Tonight and tomorrow we are in for a major storm. Talking 7 to 12" of icky white STUFF!!! I have grown very weary of this Winter... There are reports of hundreds of ducks dying of starvation because all the lakes are frozen over and they can't catch food... Seneca Lake is the only one of the Finger Lakes that didn't completely freeze over at some time this winter, but Seneca is very, very deep, and has a lot of water moving through it.
OK, some fun facts about Seneca Lake... At 38 miles long, it is the second longest of the Finger Lakes and has the largest volume, estimated at 4.2 trillion US gallons, roughly half of the water in all the Finger Lakes. It has a maximum depth of 618 feet, and a mean depth of 291 feet. It has a surface area of 42,800 acres. It is fed by underground springs and replenished at a rate of 328,000 gallons per minute. These springs keep the water moving in a constant circular motion, giving it little chance to freeze over. Because of Seneca Lake's great depth its temperature remains a near-constant 39 °F. During the Summer the top 10' or so does get up to a nice pleaseant swimming temperature, around the mid 70°F. You don't want to dive below the Thermocline without proper diving gear though!!! LOL
I'm gonna start some printing I need to get done, and then head to the train room to calm my nerves!
Later!

Well, ours IS 30 now, and is on his way to a Master's degree...SO he is being well-educated. Which even happened to cover 3 months of education on things like dying/death/bereavement and such. Education does not guarantee he won't be "dud", but ours is actually more mature than we thought/hoped for at this point in his life compared to a decade ago, even 5 years ago.
Aren't we the lucky ones? Now lets see how well ours does when we are 95 y/o and wearing diapers in a nursing home.....

Not a whole lot went on today. Watch TV most of the time. Worked on one of the computers for a bit and tested a scavenged power supply to see if it was any good. It is so I have a spare. No work on any trains today.Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.
Well, I am up due to the time change too, I think. I don't know if I am up late, or WAY to early!
Dinner went well. Our "Adopted nephew" is to be the final estate maker, outside of the living revocable trust we hope to finally have set up next year. So the wills are done for now. SO that littel chore is done finally. He was honored we'd ask him to see to the task. That was the reaction we had hoped for. My how he has grown up.
Hopefully the cat will get in sooner than later to the vet. MOH siad he drank a lot of water yesterday morning..makes me wonder about the diabeties thingy. He is snuggled to the door of the computer room now. another odd place to be. Of course I am here now, but he was there when i got back up.
I do hope i sleep some tonight!
I hOpe to see you for my early greeting, if Not, you'all know i am sleeping finally!

Oh you funny, funny people with your whole daylight savings time. Arizona is one of the few places where a baby could be born at 2:12am on March 9, 2014.

Evening all well, now that I'm all fouled up due to Daylight Savings time change, it will take me a week to get it all sorted out. Oh well nothing to be done but adjust.
Drove up to see my MIL yesterday and what a pleasnt surprise! In great spirits and going home to the Seniors Lodge she lives at on Monday. She'll be there till she can get into an assistited living facility. It was probably the best visit I've had with her in 45 years. All good.
Spring has sprung here. We've gone from -30 C to +10 C today and it's supposed to stay for a while. It looks like the sn*w is going to go and is already going.
Went on a major shopping trip today to store up on "consummables" so to speak. Spent lots but won't have to do it again for 3 months or so.
Too busy enjoying the nice day to do any RR stuff today, plus I ran out of clear caulking so the rock wall I'm building didn't get any progress either. Oh well, it is a hobby not a job after all.
Have a great evening one and all

Good evening from West Palm Beach,
Have I really missed a week. All this talk of posessed toaster strudel and such must have confused me. TC that is a great grab for photos. Where is that spot you found? It looks better than the fence by theriver in P'burgh!
We were at Homestead/Miami Speedway this weekend. 50 trans am cars and 30 or so vintage cars. It's the first time back here in a decade so not much of a vintage turnout but we did fine. Travis brought 4 cars and Christian Zugel one. Christian broke on Saturday so it was just Travis today. Four wins and a third though in reduced fields. The win with the Lotus 23 and the R-8 in the enduro were good as there was close racing in both instances. No real drama except for a starter failure on the 23 and soft brakes this morning with the Audi.
Here by the airport I have a great view of the greater Miami Tri Rail tracks (shared with Amtrak). Few trains run Sunday though and my camera is in the truck headed north so no neat pics lke TC's.By the time the northbound Silver Meteor comes through we'll be in the air anyway.
I sympathize with you Galaxy. My mom is 94 now and love her as I do, calls are still a trial between hearing and conmprehension problems. Your Fils' ploys for attention are irritating but they do bring him some comfort. It's too bad he needs such constant reinforcement but really to keep peace in the family you have little choice but to go along with it.
I will now attempt to catch up on posts before the sleep monster gets me. Cheers, J.R.
We went over to the other side of town this morning to check out a new spot to railfan. Turned out to be lousy, so we went to another spot and caught 3 CSX trains. After leaving there and on the way home, the wife suggested we go to our usual spot for Norfolk Southern. What a great suggestion on her part. For the first time, I caught the NS OCS train. I've been hoping to catch these beauties since they hit the rails, and today was the day. Not a great picture, because I was more interested in seeing them than taking photos. It was also hard to take photos as the darn thing blew by going about 50 mph. I'm a very happy railfan this evening...

Working on one of the computers today. I was needing some 3M Headlock fasteners for the lid but the only place I could find the exact item was Ebay and the seller was wanting $20 each for them and I need four. There's no way I'm paying $80 for a set of fasteners so I went hunting for an alternative. Found it on Amazon. Scotch all-weather fasteners, lasts 3X longer than Velcro. Part #RFD7090. Total cost $6.86. I should have them in about a week. Nice thing is I'll have more than enough for the job so I'll have some to spare. I'm thinking I should be able to find some use for this stuff on the layout.
Back from a visit to my friend´s place. We changed the headlights on my loco - it now sports the big oil lamp in front, which may not be prototypical withz that generator still behind it, but I like it that way, it somehow gained "character".
Once that was done, we settled on his patio and enjoyed a mug of coffee and some cookes - sorry, no schtroodle... . It was nice and warm, topping the 20°C mark. I even got a light sunburn on my head, you know, at the place that was once covered with hair...
Talking of "Lederhosen" - they come in various shapes and forms:
I don´t like them. As a kid, my parents made me wear them and I hated it. They always remind me of those dark days in German history, even though they are not at all typical of Germany, only in Austria and Bavaria people wear them (thank goodness not in every day life). If you happen to spend your vacation and you see a person wearing Lederhosen, it´s most likely a Chinese or Japanese guy.
Good morning. It's 53° with 100% humidity and a fair chance of rain. The high will be 65°. with Worked on a special computer project last night and finally got to bed about 4:30 this morning, and yes I did set my clock ahead an hour. TV, DVR and pc all change automatically. Near as I could tell we had a slow rain nearly all night. No plans today.
TMarsh Galaxy- The commercial you refer too doesn’t offend me as much as creep me out. That kid is just plain creepy looking. I got the willies just thinking about that creepy demonic possessed smile showing up at the door…..in short pants. Whoa.
Instead of the "devil wears prada', the "devil wears lederhosen"?
Yeah, he IS creepy looking at that...I wonder how he really looks in real life! If that IS how he looks, i feel sorry for him! YAH!
His eyes look a little crossed, too! I wonder if his head spins around?
Poor kid..he will forever be known as the "toaster Schtroodle boy". He won't get any other roles...
GRR.. I just had to make a worthless trip to the FIL's. He wants a phone call every morning to check on him. But this morning his phone was off the hook, like it seems to be evey other week! Of course when I got there, he was fine of course, and NOT on the phone. He does this to see if we will come running. From now on, if the phone is busy, we will assume he is up and about and talking on the phone and NOT make any more wasted trips over there!
GRR..
No, Easter is towards the end of April, and I judge looking for spring by Easter's arrival. It is later this year,so I don't expect much even on the 20th of March here when "spring begins". If the maple surple flows this year, should be a good crop! Been cold enough for it.
No signs on the lilac {hiss, snarl snarl} tree either yet. I say hiss snarl snarl, because they are MURDER on our allergies! And they are conveniently located down by the communal mailboxes!
Going this afternoon to have our wills drawn up. And have dinner. a friend is our partial legal advisor. He will naturally be paid for his services, though he may refuse. He will be paid though. I will win out. We have decided how to leave our estate{s} so now to make it official. Morbid, I know, but a necessary evil. We will have a trust set up next year. First we have to have something to "trust" with. next year we should. That way when our fathers pass, our estate simply grows and goes into the trust.
WEll, gotta finish off laundry...
Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, I'll have a short stack of blueberry pancakes with real NYS Maple Syrup, a few pieces of bacon, and my dark roast coffee in a R&GV RR Mug, please.
Sun is shining this morning (most of the time) alternating with sprinkles of white flakes... Current temperature is all of 24°F with a high this afternoon 31°F. Another day below freezing here in the Finger Lakes. Ulrich, no sign of any buds on the trees yet here. Usually by now the maples have a few dots of green that will in a few weeks become new leaves, but not this year. We have had sightings of a few robins (had one in mt crabapple tree) hanging around saying to each other, "What then heck is going on up here?"
Blackie will soon get his morning pill... He didn't get it until 10:45 last night so 11:15 today would be a a half hour less that 12 hours... Tonight I'll give it to him around 10:45 again. It will take a couple days to get him ajusted to the Daylight Savings hours due to the fact I got home late last night.
I see my breakfast is here, so I'll catch you all later!
Sir Madog Good Morning! Well, another day of sunshine! Yesterday saw a lot of BBQ´s unpacked and in use - quite early this year. There is also the first shadow of green on the trees - 4 weeks ahead of time! Flo, it´s Sunday, so I´ll go for a big breakfast, with all the works and plenty of coffee, please. galaxy Hmm the German- Irish thing is just, well, strange. Galaxy - that´s not unusual. Irish Folk music enjoys a great popularity over here, maybe because we have lost our traditional folk music in the 18th century. And don´t forget, it was Kaiser Bill, who helped Eamon de Valera get the Brits out of Ireland. And now for that Lederhosen/Kilt-thing. Aside from the fact, that Lederhosen is a Bavarian garment, and not Prussian, the Bavarians are, just as the Irish and the Scots, a Celtic tribe, so there are lots of similarities. No plans for the day. I may run over to my friends place to show him my new loco and change headlights on it. Thoughts and best wishes to all!

I made no mention of lederhosen....**
I also happen to be a majority of Norwegian descent. Guess who invaded the Northern part of GB a few hundreds of years ago.? {Scotland?} I COULD have a "family wreath" in there instead of a "family tree"...!! It may go around and around, not up! I wonder if the pillaging Norsemen of my ancestry also plundered the scots of my ancestry!
** speaking of which, there is a silly, and i mean "stupid silly" TV commercial that MOH finds to be a bit offensive: a blonde haired/blue eyed boy dressed in lederhosen, Advertises "Toaster Struddle" as a breakfast food for a disconcerted boy in the morning {like a pop-tart}. The lederhosen boy says "Toaster SCHtroodle. VARM, Gooey, delicious, YAH?"
Good morning (I think). ..... I think daylight savings time is very stupid. Remarkably, we keep doing it every year. It should be abolished once and for all. .....
Anyhow, I have weathered a dozen freight cars in the past couple of days. Now, I'll clean up all the messy stuff from the work table and move on to other adventures.
Have a good day, everybody. (I hope you are not too sleepy)
Flo I'll have 2 Belgium waffles with blueberries on top please and coffee black please.
Galaxy- thanks for breakfast I was a little short changed this morning.
Me again (Sir M) - I think most forgot to set their clocks ahead last night and are still sleeping.
Have a great day guy's gotta go,
