Ken, I had to look back to page 10 of the "Layouts" forum to find my layout construction thread. I guess I should get back at it, huh?

TA462 is alive and doing well.
Is he still involved in model railroading?
Rich
Yes he is still involved in the hobby. We have a round robin group and he has been helping me with my layout. A bunch of us are actually thinking about building a layout that we can take to shows.

MisterBeasley It would seem that those "ex members" haven't been forgotten after all.

TA462 is alive and doing well. His wife is cancer free now and they do a lot of travelling. They sold their car restoration business and his Lamborghini Aventador and bought a big motor home. He still works but not the 80+ hours he used to. Having a cancer scare in your family tends to change your priorities. Dave's life is his wife and now you never see them apart. Dave was very angry with the world when his wife was diagnosed and that is why he had his little melt down with Steve Otte on the phone and his ban became permanent. I know he still regrets it and has stated on other forums he was embarrassed by it.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
I bought a basement (and house to go along with it) ... and SWMBO has a list as long as my planned mainline that I have to get through before I can get back to laying track.
I don't think anyone has mentioned our former Moderator/modeler Eric "Bergie" Bergstrom. Down to earth and also an answer type guy. I pray that he's doing well.
"I like my Pullman Standards & Budds in Stainless Steel flavors, thank you!"
Hey folks, glad to know I was remebered! I have to wonder why, maybe because I can kill any engine!
Crandall my friend, where can I find your layout on the site? I was really looking forward to seeing where you are at this point. Far as Simon 1966, he went the way of the car like I did last year. One of his son is of driving age and they are doing a 70's MGB. Good Luck!
Last summer was all about my 68 Road Runner and I got her back on the road for a while. Then some of my Mopar Friends came by took out he gas tank and I have not seen them for the rest of the summer?
I am currently run the layout as much as I use to. Cannot bring my self to tearing it down right now. I am currnetlly (I miss spell check) trying to remember how to use the Atlas Track Planner, boy it is a pain. Trying to find some way to stuff a 68 Road Runner into a 2.5 car Garage with a 3 main line HO layout! Like stuffing 10 pounds of sand into a 5 pound bag!

Yes, I believe I do. He often had some very worthwhile and interesting thinks to say.
Thank you, Crandell.
Dusty.
Hey JOHNBOY - That would be ED-The Answer Man-MURPHY. Never could be stumped. Sent great pixs of Mexican RR equipment.
I am in contact with Ryan. His menus would cause instant drooling.

Hello, Harold. Thanks for the shout-out. Yeah, I seem to have shot my wad in the on-line MR world with intense activity during the years 2005 - 2012. I began to spend less time on all the forums in the hobby as I began to build my latest layout (largely dormant for all of this year so far). I have plans to work on it this fall. Meanwhile, I have been outdoors more, on photog forums, and doing more of a sentimental/nostalgic bit of reading, mostly biographical, on the web. As I get closer to real old age, I have begun to wonder what others are doing, how they are managing, and what unwelcome changes they face. Often it's good news, but just as often I learn that they have suffered misfortune in one way or another. Gave up the presidency of the North Island Choral Society last year and jumped over to the local chapter of Crime Stoppers. The trouble with taking even one position of leadership in a community is that you quickly become a mark for others needing new blood. That's my story lately.
I hope you are doing well?
During the time I was lurking her, before I signed on just a relitivly short time back I used to enjoy reading the contributions made by a very knowledable, & already mentioned here in a previous post - CNJ .And there was this guy who modeled the SP operating in I believe, northern California. He had a roster of brass steamers & liked cats & classiical music, but his handle on here escapes me. These two were regular contributors.

I was sad to hear that Steinjr had passed away. For some reason he did not like me and no amount of attempting come to some type of accord, he would not change his opinion.

Speaking for myself, I was gone for the better part of this year because of other commitments. Came back to the hobby and the forums about a month ago and will see how life progresses these next few months.
I do miss John Whitten and his Philosophy Friday notes - those were some thought provoking discussions.
I was also going to mention Crandall but I see he is here. How is the layout coming?
There's never time to do it right, but always time to do it over.....
rrebell Geared Steam Not sure how you can become an "ex member" besides being banned, maybe a better thread header would be "members whom no longer participate". It's fairly easy to understand, as modelers advance in the hobby, they find other places looking for stimulation. MR plays a very important part in the hobby as it serves the newcomers. Once a modeler is past knowing how to lay track, ballast, etc, they find themselves looking for more advanced techniques and niches. It's a natural progression. So have you found a fotum for the advanced?????????????????

I would just like to remember in our memories a fellow that I always enjoyed hearing from and that was O.J. Ed from Mexico. Can someone fill in his last name for me as I can't pull it out of the cobwebs right now, but possibly was something like "Harris" He had a citrus farm down there and passed away several years ago. RIP Ed. >> no, orange juice please.
Also miss hearing from The Cajun Chef, Ryan. , who favored us with all of the Name Train dining car menus and some great recipes. and also Chuck from Texas and of course Spacemouse, who has been mentioned here several times.
Hope you are all doing well.
Johnboy out.........................and like the rest of you, waiting to catch a TRAIN.

I moved away from MRR Forums only as Jim stated, much of what is mentioned is nothing new. Also there are only four forum topics to cover all of model railroading. Its a very good forum, but eventually you need something a little more stimulating. I still scan MR but thats about it.
I did move over to Big Blue where they have approximately 38 model railroading topics covering all aspects of the hobby. There are always several threads to worth reading. At some point in time I will probably get tired of this also.

Bringing up dead threads seems to be the norm now and I just was looking around at a currant thread that led me here. Even though I have knowlege of the hobby, I still come back here as this forum seems to be the best place still to find specific answers to questions if they are posed right (lots here, including myself, have trouble with that).
I rember Jubylives and his Modern Rock Island set in Iowa. He and his layout are long gone, but I can watch his youtube videos still.
Forums have their ebbs and flows--some of the exchanges with folks like SpaceMouse were a lot of fun. I posted a lot when I first got back into the hobby, but one of the side effects of getting back into trains was discovering the joys of historical research--which bit me so hard I ended up back in grad school and changed careers! That cut down on my forum posting for a few years, along with doing a lot of writing (including a lot of writing about trains!) and posting here maybe once a year. Although this past winter I got sick of looking at the gigantic pile of unbuilt kits in my basement and started a mad construction phase!
mononguy63 At one time I was a not-infrequent participant on these boards, and still check in once in a while but contribute very little. Truth is, these forums have fallen into the "nothing new under sun" heading - there's just not a lot of new ground being covered here. Plus, I don't typically have anything productive to contribute to a conversation, so I just drift away. Jim

Have fun with your trains
Came in perused here after a long absense and lookie what I see as top post!
The names listed here are mighty familiar, often ones that were around 6 or so years ago when I was heavily active in this forum. It does sadden me to learn of Wolfgang's passing as he was one of my favorite authors to read. The falling of others is even worse. I send my regards to those who were close.
Otherwise, I cannot say where the others have gone. I do hope that they are all right and all well, however, and that we may hear from them again.
fec153 I'm surprised no one mentioned 'ED MURPHY'. He too was an "ANSWER MAN". I have saved a post that gives us the start of "THE DINER" or coffee shop, whatever you choose to call this. Flip aka Fla. Phil

Hi Phil
Unfortunately Ed passed about two years ago.
Oh how time flies.
