Gidday All, balmy 65 F Friday evening. No real visual progress on my ferry project, started track planning for the ferry yard and have ended up with something looking like an spilt bowl of spagetti with a big dollop of bolonaise sauce obscuring the details, but have gone ahead and ordered some turnouts any how.
Here's a photo from the archives.
Looking forward to the Really Good Stuff.
Have a Great One Folks.
Cheers, the Bear.

I have started planning my layout. It will be three 4x2 modules arranged in a T shape, so it will be 8x6. I have planned to have a Asphalt shingle plant like the one on the MRR winter hill project, and a Asphalt transfer terminal (I found a PDF on the MRR site on how to build one). There will be a little engine house for the switcher, and I am planning on having a shop with space for 3 locomotives, with room for more outside. Still a work in progress, so there will be more industries.
Good morning Bear, nice picture. I did not get my normal 3 cars done this week, but I have two and a new addition to the motive power fleet!

Here are three Cornerstone sturcture kits I put together last week. First, Laube Linen Mill,
Then, the Industry Office, without some added decals, Then, Golden Valley Freight. Not yet weathered, and needs some roof and other details as it's pretty plain. For this one and its neighbor to the left, I built a shared extension platform with wood materials and a leftover plastic stairs.

I finished my N scale PRR I1s yesterday. Its hardly a perfect model but it does capture the flavor. This started out as a Minitrix decapod. Here's a link to the blow-by-blow for this project.

Bear,
Great steamy pic!
Rick,
Nice cars and those locos look like they should up to some fast Flexivan traffic.
Karl,
I like those hacks. Nice work!
Paul and GP9,
Looking good!
This was a week of vast improvements in passenger service. My layout represents parts of an imaginary standard gauge secondary main that runs one from Moab through Durango and down to Grants NM, where it has trackage rights into Albuequerque. Beautiful country and just really thirsty for better passenger service.
Two trains aren't in these pics. The Houston-Portland Zephyr began running between its namesake cities as the California Zephyr was re-equipped with new rolling stock. This freed up some cars and allowed the Rio Grande to enter a similar agreement to start service with the HP Zephyr. The other is a RDC-Dome Obs that is used to cover local service on the line and is also used by tour operators for special runs.
Most of the cars are old Rivarossi, IHC and Con-Cor. Pretty pedestrian stuff compared to my BLI CZ cars, but it doesn't take much to get them looking more Rio Grande-ish. The roof and trucks get a coat of aluminum paint. The ends get a coat of black paint. I add weight to NMRA specs, 36" metal wheels, and Kadee couplers. The result is a good looking car that doesn't require a whole lot of investment. Here's an RPO-Baggage.
Another baggage car. And a very unprototypical, but stylish observation-tavern car, which will get some tail lights when I get a chance. Here's a pic of the La Sal Flyer East The La Sal Flyer West The National Park Panoramic is both part of the heritage fleet available for special charters and is used for the National Park Panoramic Special. Reviving a storied train name, the NPPS travels leisurely through the magnificent scenery of New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah. It usually stops to accomodate tours of nearby Mesa Verde and Canyonlands National Parks. Consult your travel agent or the Official Guide for schedule information.

Some great stuff here again this week. Keep the photos and ideas coming guys!
Whats better than a Niagara running on the main? Two. At left is NYC #6008 a BLI locomotive. At right is NYC #6015 a Bachmann locomotive. This pair is really impressive when running together on the layout.
My thanks to all of you great modelers out there who make WPF the best thread of the week.

Excellent work everyone. Karl- Is that a custom paint scheme on the loco? If so you did a great job. D.J.- Great to see you back posting excellent pics of your Pennsy layout.
This week the extension work continues. The track is hooked up and tested. I have weathered the rails and started putting facia boards up.

No, it's just bare brass! Oh, you mean the other one!
No, the Canton Railroad switcher is an Athearn run done for the railroad to hand out to customers, stockholders & employees. All of them were dummies. My LHS had 2 for sale from the owners private collection. I added the sill stripes and handrails, then cobbled together a power chassis for it, but wasn't really satisfied. When I picked up a Kato NW@ chassis at an auction,,,well, 1&1 made 2 ya know?
BRVRR Some great stuff here again this week. Keep the photos and ideas coming guys! Whats better than a Niagara running on the main? Two. At left is NYC #6008 a BLI locomotive. Yes, that pair of Niagras is impressive. I have one of each myself. I have had nothing but problems with the Bachmann. It just won't stay on the rails. Most of the problems are with the pilot wheels which just flop all over the place but even the drivers seem to want to head for the cornfield. Did you have to tweak your Bachmann, or did I just get a lemon?
There's some good looking stuff in here, folks!
How about a bit of construction?
I just completed the addition of two more body tracks in Laurel Yard, with the installation and wiring of the additional switches at the engine-terminal-end yard throat:

A few years ago, there was someone on the forum who modeled a deer that had been hit by a train. I had a close call like that with my car, particularly when the deer slipped on the asphalt a couple feet in front of my bumper.

jecorbett,
I had a few problems with the Bachmann Niagara at first. Problems with the pilot truck and the tender wanting to derail.
I tinkered with it for awhile and figured out that setting the wheels just under the recommended width on my NMRA gage cured the problem with them both. It took a little trial and error to get it right but the loco runs fine now. It will navigate the inner and outer mainlines 20 and 22-1/2 inch radius respectively, on the BRVRR layout at any speed including flat out, but all of my locos will do that, diesel and steam.
Allan,
Thanks for the tip. I'll give it a try. I've got nothing to lose because right now, I can't run the Bachmann as it is. I have the luxury of 36" minimum radisu on my mainline so I should be able to run just about antying, but not the Bachmann Niagra. I've parked it on an outdoor track around my turntable. I've had good performance from Spectrum line of steamers, but nothing but frustration from their regular line going back about 30 years. I had a Consolidation with the same problem with the pilot wheels and ended up removing them and running it as a 0-8-0. I've got two Spectrum Consoilidations and they are among my most reliable performers. Hard to believe the same company produces both.
