Choosing an avatar
Posted by Guy Papillon on Friday, October 4, 2013 2:49 PM

When comes the time to choose an avatar:

- Some people will choose to stay anonymous,

- Others will choose to show some caracteristics of themselves,

- Others will like to show their passion,

- Even going to picture themshelves.

Everyone its way.

When I choosed my avatar for this forum I placed myself in the third category because I wanted to show what I was modeling.  Everyone can tell that my avatar doesn’t belong to me. It is the logo the Canadian National Railway  put on their cabooses in the 40’s to mid 50’s.  I took the photo of one of my cabooses and edited it on my computer. But still, it doen’t belong to me.

I was nevertheless surprised when I saw that, a few days ago, M_Robinson plagiatized my avatar by « Right click\copy » it.

Was I upset? the answer is YES.

It that dramatic? The answer is NOT AT ALL.

Is it important? NO, as I can change my avatar whenever I want.  And that is what I will do to preserve my identity.

Finally, if I don’t have time to conceive a new avatar, it seems that I can always choose from existing ones :

And why not this one?

LION owns avatar of LION. It is art work of the LION. Him maked it and it is his.

LION will defend the avatar of him.

(Photograph of wildebeest is not of LION, thank you to whoever owns the photo.)

I change my avatar all the time and I have many. This recent one is to celebrate the start of Hockey season. Feel free to use it as you wish. If you are a Montreal Canadians fan you will probably want to.Smile, Wink & Grin

Why don't you send the offending member a PM and express your feelings that way. Discuss it in private. I think that would have been a more tactful way of addressing the situation.

For mine, I took a picture on my layout and selected a small square from it.  I call the figure "Rocky," but he's not me, he's from Woodland Scenics and I never owned a black leather jacket when I was that age.  I did, however, live outside the NY subway system that mine is loosely modeled after, and I still think of the subways as the signature element of my layout.

My avatar is mine.  I built the scene, and took the photo.

I should have known that you wouldn't give your avatar without a fight. So I kindly remove your avatar from my list.

Brent,
