I was looking through some old MS-DOS software here and I found my old Zork I CD. I put it in the computer and it still works fine. Played Zork I for a while this morning. I then looked into the 'Extras' directory (this CD was put together by a friend of mine, not Infocom). There I found several things of interest including the online link where I could download the other Zork games. Since the time this CD was burned the link evidently was changed as I didn't find it on the first try. A quick search led me right to the current link. The downloads were in the form of ZIP files so you better believe they were very well scanned before I opened them. So now I have Zork II and Zork III. I'd heard of a fourth game and after a bit of searching I found and downloaded Zork Zero. It's the only Zork game to have any kind of graphics. So now I can play Zork again. It may give me some ideas for my own game as well.

yougottawantaDennis - very fascinating world you live in. No disrespect meant but why would anyone want to live in that extreme cold ? How do you live like that ? What is the difference between having fur on the inside vs. the outside ?
Just for the record, the vast majority of Canadians do not wear Mucklucks. The vast majority of Canadians live within 300 miles of the US/Canada Border. North of that tends to be a lot colder than down south. We typically wear the same clothes that people in the Northern States along the border.
In summer we can and do get temperatures upwards of 90 F depending on what area of the country you are living in. East and west coasts are much more moderate because of the influence of the Pacific and Atlantic. The prairies get down to minus 35 in the winter but only for a week at a time usually. Average daytime highs in winter on the prairies seem to be around minus 10 to minus 20.
How do we live in this climate? Just dress for it. Parkas made with eiderdown linings, insulated boots for the really cold days and gloves. We are used to it that's all. We also do not have the humidity that many have south of the border.
It's hard to talk in generalities regarding the climate because the country is so vast. We are the second largest country in the world with a population of only 36 million.
As for fur on the inside, it's warmer that way because it doesn't get ice coated which decreases the insulating value.

Morning All,
Currently it is 32 with an expected high of 71 under sunny skies.
This is my weekend off, so I have one load of laundry going, and only need to do that one today. After getting some cooking done (see next paragraph) I plan to w**k on model railroad stuff most of the day.
I had to work last weekend, so my daughters and I missed the Great Italian Festival in Reno which we usually go to every year. As I am FBI (Full Blooded Italian) we decided to have our own here at my house. We will each be making two dishes, and have a grand time stuffing our faces with some food, appetizer type, that we only make on special occasions. I am making Stuffed Mushrooms, and Sausage Peppers and Onions. My daughter Amy will be making a Sausage, Rice, and Spinach bake, and Teppler (very similar to Funnel cake) for desert. My daughter Jen will be making Stuffed Artichokes, and I forget what else.
Jen may not make it though. Her boyfriend's 6 year old twin step brothers were with their nanny walking down a street near San Francisco, when an elderly gentleman, in his 90's drove onto the sidewalk and pinned one of the boys against a building. He has several broken bones and at last report was in serious condition. So prayers are appreciated for him.

YouGottaWanna.... ROFL! Yes, as others pointed out it was Miles Per Gallon! I'm driving a PiP. Still confused? Plug in Prius... I plug in at my sisters house while I'm there and get about a 90% charge (about 11.4 miles of EV) It is a 16 mile trip back home and is basically downhill, although this area is rolling hills so I am continually going up and down hill. If it was a level route I might be able to make the whole trip using just electric and it would register 999mpg (miles per GALLON) on the computer. Now that 295mpg doesn't take into consideration the cost of the charge (at our rates about 25¢ for 2kW). However the trip used just enough gasoline (Dinosaur dung) to give me 4 miles of distance and warm up the system. Yesterday, the trip home was just under 18 miles as I had to drive down to the lake for my allergy shot. So... I got roughly 14 miles for a cost of 25¢. The other 4 miles cost me 42¢ for the dinosaur dung. You get the point. At home I make my own Electricity from solar on the roof, and all the rest of the power I use is on a 100% green program (Solar, wind, and non invasive hydro). Oh, BTW, top speed on the PiP is only 112mph... Limited by the computer to protect the main traction motor and the ICE (Internal Combustion Engine). Now if I had bought a Volt, I could make the entire trip up and back on electric only.... But, the PiP serves my total needs for a vehicle better than the Volt would. If you want better performance how about this one Concept One? That one goes a bit faster! 190 mph with a 0 to 60mph time of 2.8 seconds... Sports 1088 hp. So much for the golf cart mentality!
Got to get moving, lots of stuff to do today!

It is a somewhat grayish day, but dry. Went over to my friend´s house for a sip of coffee and a chat. I also took a few snaps of the critter.

I am not really happy with that red, but it´ll disappear under a heavy coat of rust and grime. Also the loco body will receive a heavy dose of beating and rusting - those critters never received good care.

What will I do today? Eat I do know, aaaand……burn. No it rained so that’s out. I do have another load of laundry to do and more pruning of the weeds, I mean plants/flowers that come back every year that you have to get this years growth gone like um…peonies. Whatever you call that. I did get those (peonies) cut back in Sept. NEXT year I hope to have the retired mans yard. I hoped for that the next spring when I retired in fall of 2004, but THAT didn’t happen. I’ve had less time for yardwork since I retired than before!
Speaking of Peonies, have you ever noticed there are at least 3 ways they are pronounced? Pee-o-neze, Pie-neze (Brenda’s way) and Pennies. And the person will adamantly insist their pronunciation is correct. Very few words are as strongly defended in the pronunciation department as Peonies. Another is gnocchi. Oh my gosh. Say that one different and you’d a thought you committed a mortal sin. They even have a way that is pronounced that I don’t see how they even get it. Yonkies They’ll argue it’s right though.

Galaxy - my thoughts and prayers were with you and your loved ones yesterday. It´s been a little over 6 months now since my dad passed away and my thoughts are with him every day since. I really miss not having been able to say goodbye to him.
Nothing much planned for the rest of the day - I may drop by my friends house to w*rk a little on that critter and shoot a snap or two of it.

Train news. Ran across an add and for a box of trains for $60. Then a few days later the add price dropped to $40. The curiosity got the better of me so I contacted them. Well when I got there the box didn't look like much and I was disappointed. No transformer . So I offered $20 and they took it. I bought the Rio Grande O27 , 080 with a hopper , caboose, flat car, telephone poles, bridge lots of three rail track and something mangled that I think is a semaphore . Now if I can find a transformer...

Did it again today! Got 295mpg coming home from my sisters house and going down to the allergist's office to get my shot. Ran out of EV a couple blocks after leaving the office. Since it is an uphill climb to get to my house I only got 53mpg on that short (mile and a half) trip. I am getting 110mpg on this tank at the moment. Will probably be back to 80 something by the time I get home from the Museum on Sunday, but I'm having fun hypermiling the car...
I took the wall I poured out of the mold this evening. Can't do much else until it cures/dries. I have the dremel all set up to be able to cut the upper window line on the wall, and don't want to reset the dremel drill press until I get that cut made. Couple days should do it, then I can reset and complete cutting all the lower windows out on the walls that have them. That can be done easily in an evening. I also did about 5' of ballasting in one spot.

I been a busy old Indian today. I don't know what happened but I really got locked in on a binge with Native Fury. Those areas marked in blue in the photo are what I coded in today alone, thirty some-odd blocks. One of them a two-story stainless-steel house. I kid you not. There's one of those in this neighborhood, built back in the 50's I think. It's unoccupied now. I've only been in it once in my entire life so I don't remember all of the layout so I took a guess at some of it. The real house doesn't have any hidden areas that I'm aware of but I wrote one into my version of the house in Native Fury. I decided to have some fun and gave it sort of an Ali-Baba flavor. If the character goes up the stairs to the bedroom up there and chants 'Open Sesame' a part of the stairwell wall will open revealing the entrance to the secret room. Thus far I haven't put anything in the room yet. Any suggestions?

Ah, you need to live in the "Great White North" to know what they are I guess. They originated with the 1st nations people and were quickly adopted by the early fur traders of the Hudson Bay Co. and North West Trading Co as a means of keeping their feet warm in Canada's cold winters. The Inuit of the far north also wear them but they are slightly different in that they are made of seal skin with the fur turned to the inside.

It is Over. It is done.
MIL's funeral was today. AN old Family close friend MOH's age came in form another state and accompanied us. Just the 4 of us. It was a BEAUTEOUS day. although a bit of a nip in the air {to be expected this time of year}.
MOH read a poem from the carry-away card from my mother's funeral a decade ago. Maybe later I will post it, maybe not. MOH got through it, though half way was a challenge to read it. I was ready to step in as when MOH was looking for Bible Psalms to read, and couldn't find the right one, I suggested the poem and I read it to MOH and it was the first time I read it without breaking up. BUT MOH made it then said a whole some of German {and the Funeral director thought was "nice"?} and we all said goodbye to the casket.
Oh, first we all said goodbye to her before the casket was sealed at the funeral home this morning before heading up. FIL said "it doesn't look like her" {she looked TIRED} and did not want to stay at all. He was disappointed, I think, severely. We put 8 roses in the casket with her. 1} she ALWAYs enjoyed flowers and wanted to surround herself with them, 2} one for all of us and one each for the favored cats in her life. A splay on top went to the spot with her for interment. When MOH ordered the flowers, they gave MOH a single rose extra for us. It became the extra flower for family friend who came in from out of state to put in casket with MIL. So It was meant to be to have that extra rose. ALL were roses of varying colors.
So, then that was that. It was a sunny but breezy day. Just like My mother's. Short and sweet, just like My MIL. The casket was simple and elegant, just like MIL. So, now family friend will visit with FIL and keep him busy for a short while.

On other notes: Todd: glad to hear Brenda's checkup went well,Good to hear heart damage was minimal. I have 2 minor heart issues, and know how scarry they can be! Someone mentioned not smoking..are you still not? good for you! I quit and DO NOT regret it, In fact I regret all the years I did smoke and wasted money. Good for you all on both accounts!someone else said something that was good, but now forgot,so best wishes to all?
I can use all three "WORDS OF THE DAY" today. MIL' s was like a fine passing "gnast" {snuffing out, as a candle flame} {{Elton John woud be so pround}}. The "sandapile"{coffin} was brilliant silver pearl witth chrome adornments. There were NO "Moirologists" { hired mourners at a funeral} today, just REAL ones.
See? they do come in handy sometimes!!
now to go pay some bills and take a well deserved nap!

Did my last mowing last evening before the rains hit. Today I must run the last bit of gas out of the mower and cut down the lily stems. I got the eave troughs done earlier in the week and the A/C wrapped up so today should finish the fall work other than polishing the snow shovels and getting the snow blower's oil changed>>>>>>>><<<<<<<always something. Not that I like doing it, but I hope next year I still will be able to do it. You know how that goes..................

Ulrich - watched your video. The guys comment about not measuring made me laugh. In my industry we always say measure twice cut once. And still sometimes we experience the old joke - Cut it twice and it is still to short ! That happens to those that are a few sticks of lumber short of a hack.

That old bright thing has returned to the sky for a bit today. Chilly and windy outside and is supposed to stay that way. Currently 54°F with a high around 58°F later this afternoon.
I managed to get down to the train rooms long enough to mix up some hydrocal and get the last wall of the Blacksmith's Shop poured last night. I had a Scout Committee meeting to attend so I was once again short on time to do anything more on the modeling end. Did get a bit of outdoor stuff done between rain showers. Trimmed the small hedge next to the house and cleaned up the bits of wood in the other driveway (from the loads of firewood I got last summer...). I need to start pulling out the remaining almost dead plants in the garden and putting more topsoil into the raised beds.
I have also gotten some stuff done for the NMRA and, of course, fed the kitties at my sister's house. Got 295mpg again coming home from Canandaigua yesterday. If it weren't for having to drive out to the Museum to w*rk on Sunday, I might be able to get a1000 mile tank (Tank holds just over 10 gal.) this time. If I can manage to also make the trip to pick up my sister next Wednesday at the Rochester Airport on this tank, I still might.... right now I have averaged 107 miles per gal. on this tank. should be 110 by the time I get home today.

Good morning. It's 54° with 100% humidity. The high will be 75°. with a Well this morning I tallied up the amount of work I've put into part two of the game already and the result was surprising. So far I've done nineteen blocks with an average of seven lines of code for each block. A functional line of code can be as short as three characters or numerals or combinations thereof and can be as long as the maximum line length allows. I've never counted exactly how many letters/numbers/etc can fit on one line but it's a pretty good number ans sometimes still not long enough for my needs. Most times I find they average from twenty to somewhere around one hundred fifty letters. Some are longer but that's just an average. And then there's the IF, THEN, GOTO, INPUT, PRINT functions that go into things like this simple line 880 IF NA1 = 1 THEN PRINT "YOU'RE IN BIG TROUBLE. YOU JUST ACTIVATED A TRIGGER ON A 5-POUND BLOCK OF C4!":INPUT "WOULD YOU LIKE TO KISS YOUR BUTT GOODBYE NOW? Y/N";E$: NA = 0: PRINT "HAVE A NICE DAY.": GOSUB 52000: GOTO 5000.Below is a rough map of Part II of Native Fury. The area circled in red is the area I coded in yesterday.
