Howdy ....

JohnBoy .... Thanks for commenting on our upcoming road trip. It will be a busy trip. Regarding your plans, Memphis is a good place to visit. I think Elvis Presley's Graceland is very worthwhile. If you have time to include western Kentucky, stop by for a layout tour. I think we are here for most of the month of May except last few days of it.

Here is an interesting location upriver from here:

Cannons were used in the civil war by the South in an effort to stop the North from heading to Nashville on the Cumberland River.

Fergie ..... I have another idea for your posts. It would be a bit whimsical. Have a town surrounding one of the posts. Build a post office around the post. You might get a few laughs from visitors who read the sign "Post Office" with the oversized post.

Cheers, everybody.

Evening, Chloe - I'll have a roast beef dinner with salad, asparagus, baked potato and a glass of Finger Lakes wine, please. Thank you.

Man, it's sad when I'm gone for a while and then as I come back in, I see you've lost your father, Ulrich. AngelAngel for you & Petra, and whoever else is tending to the funeral arrangements. As Rob and others pretty much already said, your father is at peace now. But there still is the pain and loss for you and other family members. Your father definitely was a big influence on your train interest. Keeping a prayer candle lit at home for you and yours (but not when I'm not there). And may you and your brother be able to pay your respects for your father (no matter if other persons are/aren't there at the time). Unless it's different in Germany than over here, the cemeteries are open (at least) during the days, and anyone can come in to pay their respects. Plus, if you're far enough away, you may still be able to view the interment at the gravesite.

I forget who it was (JaBear?), but one of the Diners was saying he was glad to be having rain - I would agree with that - I'm okay with the one or two inches of rain that the storm front brought us yesterday/last night (better than the four inches of wet stuff that the area a few dozen miles north of us got Storm). This year, I'd been wondering if we were headed the direction that Texas had been last year/years (drought...). So as long as we don't get tons of flooding this spring along the Missouri or Mississippi Rivers, I'm good with getting rain. (Now, twisters or those not-so-fun straight-line winds...)Whistling

Todd, I was fortunate to catch a local recycle event at our local fairground a few years ago, and recycle my 17" CRT (they took it for free, and I was satisfied to be rid of it!). I do still have three of those "endangered" CRT's - one for an old Mac I have, a green screen monitor (like Jeff mentioned) for my Apple IIe, and an RGB color monitor for my Apple IIgs. Hopefully, they all will hold up for a while longer. Wink

Jake, your knowing how (& being smart enough) to write thank-you notes is an excellent skill to have. Thumbs Up Take a break for maybe ten or fifteen minutes after you've done a batch (no, not just a couple or three...Smile, Wink & Grin). Good that you have a bit of a break to track down what you need for your scholarship applications. Yeah And HEY! - BowBow kudos on being in the top 10 (not just top 10 percent)!

Ken, turning that check into all quarters sounds like a lot to store. How sturdy are your house's floor joists? Whistling But it sounds like some good reasoning about why you do that (especially #'s 2, 3, & 5; as far as the fire goes, I don't know whether they would melt or not).

Curt, your yard & engine terminal both look good! Thumbs Up That has come along very well. Yeah

Karl, that's a nice li'l store (or post office would be good, too, or...). Need to make some basic sign for the front, and a little weathering, and you'd be good there (I like it)!

Hey, I don't remember lately - how's the weather been lately for our NOTB (Canadian) Diners? Have the spring flowers started poking their head above the snow line? Pirate

Chris, hope your newbie photog graduates don't have an attitude because they got a degree (which by itself doesn't always mean squat...). New camera? Hey, you can keep up with the newbies with that - they may be paying off their student loans and unable to buy one of those new-fangledy Nikons. Thumbs UpSmile

Yeah, both Boston and West (Texas) have been having awful days this week. We definitely need Galaxy to add additional candle(s). AngelAngel Tough year.

And Galaxy, congratulations to YOH on landing the job (even if it's a "transitional" job until the REAL one comes by...). Awesome timing! Happy B-Day Hope that your trip to the dentist has minimal leftover pain afterwards. Rest up and follow whatever orders your dentist sent home with you.

Careful there, Bob (Seamonster)... you might let those 'other' words about that server slip out of your mouth later (like in your sleep), and have your wife hear it...ZzzOopsSurprise!! But hope it stays a Happy Anniversary!

Yeah, chochowillie, some days are kinda like you mentioned in MRR'ing, too. Sigh But a Happy Anniversary to you and your wife, also! Thumbs Up

Johnboy - if your wife and sis are gone, you ought to be able to get all kinds of MRR stuff done, right? Smile, Wink & Grin Okay, except for any time for w**k, that is. Sigh Best wishes on your three tracks & a tunnel puzzle (almost sounds like a Western movie title...). Whistling

Fergie, just look at your new MRR acquisitions as your part in shoring up Whistling the world's economy. Smile, Wink & Grin I had bought a couple of those curved Peco turnouts back when they were on sale (some weeks ago). Now to get your bridge installed so you can get those mighty 'steam dragons' rolling on the MESS(tm) again. Yeah

Garry - hope you & Shelley have a very enjoyable trip to the Southeastern U.S. I'm guessing you'll be seeing some of your family on this trip, right?

Many Angel Angel on the list tonight (and for a while) for those in need, including for comfort and peace for all those who very much can benefit from that now.

I will be settling down with a hot fudge sundae and a Santa Fe mug of coffee for a bit.

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape G.

Evening All,

Had chicken for supper.

Nothing much to report today except I went to the early matinee to see Oblivion as I like Sci-Fi. Spent $5 to see it. If you spend more than that you will waste your money. It got stupid in parts.

Cape Jim- Good to see you again.

Ulrich- I continue to say prayers for you

Lehigh Valley- Congratulations on the results of your hard  work.

Hope everyone has a good night and prayers for those in need.

Evening guys

Busy day at work. Apparently my boss changed the schedule without telling me, again. I found out when I got a phone call asking where I was at. She changed it from 700 to 600. I woke up at 600 because I though I had to be there at 700.

I've been upgrading some old life-like and bachmann cars. I plugged the holes for the trucks and will drill and tap them for screws later. The tricky car will be the life-like Rock Island 100-ton hopper. This car will likely be repainted black someday, whenever I get a mess of these types of cars. Also in the mix is a GB&W thrall door box (LL), EL 50' evans box (LL) and an EL 50' box (bachmann). I also brought my DCC/sound F45 home for some tweaks. Replaced the firecracker antennae, adjusted the headlights (Not really a fan of athearn's minibulbs for headlights, they can move around a bit), and cleaned it out. Runs nice and quiet when the sound is off. I also fixed the numberboards on my ATSF SD40-2. I noticed they lit up weirdly, so I popped them off and painted the backs black. Popped them back an and no lit numberboards. My BN ones don't have lighted boards, and the green one is from the same run. I still need another numberboard for BN 8097. I still haven't been able to get through to athearn...

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Evenin' folks,

Janie, just a warm up of my decaf for now...

Had an interesting day, I did.  Today was the interviews for the MLK Scholarship awards.  I called the little old lady (over 80) who is the last surviving member of the original committee and now has the title "President Emeritis", to see if she wanted to come to the interviews.  I told her to be ready to go around 15 minutes before I really needed to pick her up.  She is not known for being on time.  When I got there to pick her up, she was still in her house coat and no where near ready to go.  20 minutes later she reappeared with her coat on and 5 minutes after that we headed out the door so i could drive us over to the Boys and Girls Club where we were meeting.

We arrived about 10 minutes before the interviews were supposed to take place to find only one other committee member and the first candidate had arrived.  Several others straggled in in the next few minutes and I started the interviews as I was the only officer in the room.  The committee President did arrive half way through the first interview (poor guy still has a job and has to w@rk) so he then took over the lead.  Everything went pretty smooth except every time the Lady I chauffeured to the meeting said anything, it was usually off topic and ramble on for 10 minutes and didn't have anything to do with anything...  She has always rambled on that way but this was 10 times worse than anything before.  Very sad, but totally unnerving to the poor kids sitting there being interviewed...  Anyway, I got home about 7:45 after we argued about who should get what for a while at the end of the meeting.  Decisions agreeable to all of were made and we have 7 kids who will be recognized for their achievements.

Ken, ask again about sleep studies when you go to the VA.  Sleep apnea can be fatal....  There are now dental appliances that can help many people with the problem.

Ulrich, how terrible that you and your brother will not be allowed to be at your Father's Funeral.  I can't think of anything crueler to do to you after all the help you have given them over the years.  Sounds like your Mom is in a terrible state at the moment.  My prayers for you and yours!

Will have to be on the road by 7AM tomorrow to get to the Spring NMRA Meet to start setting up so we can open at 8:30 for registration.  Car is all loaded with supplies for the day.  Do hope I haven't forgotten anything.

Have a great night!

Curt - thanks for saving me the money on the movie. On the "Ken's 1-to-10 BofS Stupid Scale", how stupid were the stupid parts? Smile, Wink & Grin

Vincent, how often has your boss done this last-minute changeroo on your job hours? I wonder if somebody else is not showing up for their hours (say, earlier in the week's schedule) and then she decides she needs to change (and thinks of you as either more reliable to show up, and/or more likely to be "not doing anything else anyway, so he can come in a bit earlier..." Bang Head)... Does make you wonder what is going on with THAT!

Ray, it sounds like "one of those days" - and you're retired, even! (Will you be reminding the "President Emeritus" about the date & time for next year's MLK interviews?) Wink

[Edit:] Ah, it looks like I get to cover the midnight brunch, eh? Okay, Chloe, start the tab and I'll settle up in the morning.

Well, about time for me to head for home. Good to hear that in Boston, they appear to have the second person in custody. Thank Heaven for that, and may it be a good night for all.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape G.

Cape Jim- I would say 6-7 on the stupid scale. They did advertise a Will Smith Sci-Fi movie with his son that looks interesting. Can't remember the name.

Thanks, Curt - the Will Smith one sounds more worthwhile (though I haven't seen the previews/trailers for it yet).

So here we are at the start of another weekend. Hope everyone has a good one. Weather is a little goofy here it seems. Yesterday we were in the middle 80's with low humidity and a nice breeze. Got up early today and it was still very nice, However, over the course of the day the temperatures dropped over 25 degrees and a cold rain came along for the ride. It figures because I spent a great deal of time yesterday washing the car and cleaning the windows and interior. Then the wife and I decided to go out for dinner tonight. Good bye clean car. Of course, it stopped raining after we got home and everything dried up. GRRRR....

Did get a good fish sandwich with french fries, coleslaw and a Sam Adams Light on draft. So something good was salvaged out of the day.

Plan on putting some lawn fertilizer down tomorrow morning. I put it down every spring and fall. Not that it really needs it as I've already cut the grass 3 times in the last 2 weeks. I need to catch up on a couple of other chores so we will be free for our regular Sunday rail fanning. Well, I guess I better go turn the furnace back on as it's getting a little chilly in the house now, so catch you all later.

Got called down to my fathers place today. He wanted to get some things done that require two people. While their my niece and her husband came down to look at the work that's being done on the west wing. It's starting to look like a house now instead of a bunch of framed walls. So I went around with them and we all inspected the quality of the work. It pretty good overall. Not ready to move into yet but it's getting there. The floor plan is open concept. With the exception of the bathrooms and bedrooms you can go into each area unhindered by doors and you can see quite well from one room to another. But I ended being on my way too long and now my knees, hips, back and shoulders are giving me plenty of grief. I hope I can get some sleep tonight. Looks like tomorrow will be a sunny day with a high in the 70's. I was a bit surprised that nobody asked what that big loco on the Sundown shop track was this morning. That's my second largest loco and it can take 18" radius curves and #4 turnouts all day long. So can my biggest one.

Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

That is an unusual beast. It's called a U30E645 (don't ask me why. It doesn't have a 645 prime mover. It's a rebuilt U30C that has some EMD body components (blower, radiators, dynamic brake fans) and it's apparently sporting a Caterpillar prime mover indicated by the Cat decal on the long hood. The air tanks are also roof mounted.

Evening All, Just a hot chocolate, Chloe and could I have it at the rivet counter please.

Good to hear that the authorities have made an arrest in Boston.

yes it was me going on about the rain,we've had some more, not a quite a drought breaker just  yet but with the warm weather things are greening up nicely, next thing you know I'll be moaning about having to mow the lawn, so if I do, feel free to make a rude comment, ( though don't upset Vinnie), I'll deserve it.

Garry. I have just finished reading a book about the battle of Shiloh so while I certainly enjoyed your photos, it was with a certain amount of sadness. No war is fun but a civil war seems to me to be even worse.

Jake. Thank you for bringing to my attention the "Dogfighting" series I will have to have a proper look when I get the time. Well done on being in the top 10 students Having brains help but I suspect hard work also had a lot to do with it. Good on you and I'll keep my fingers crossed regarding the scholarship.

Cheers, the Bear.

Ulrich- I am so sorry about these latest events. I just can’t imagine.

Well, I ran out of trim yesterday on  the wall so I have to go get some this morning. Then do the ceiling in the apartment bathroom real quick as I haven’t got up there to do that yet either. THEN, I have to mow the yard and THAT may take a couple days. Not sure I want to put the ol’ John Deere through that kinda stress right out of the chue. Man that grass is tall already.

Good to hear that the authorities have made an arrest in Boston.

You're not the only one.  We are only about 10 miles from the point where the arrest was made, and I was going to be extra careful about locking up last night in case the bomber had slipped the dragnet.  I've had a cold all week, too, and haven't slept well.  Last night put an end to both of those issues.

There are still a lot of people, though, who can't be "made whole" by the arrest.  If you'd like to contribute, the official site is www.onefundboston.org.

Things were so much simpler in the Transition Era.  I think I'll spend the day there and decompress.

 Morning Folks

 Flo, Diet Dew pleases.

Boy that was a long few seconds! We are having problems getting all of our cable channels so Charter sent out a repairman. He took the internet off line while messing with the cables. By the time he was done (still having the same problem) I had moved on to doing something else.

How did I sleep last night you ask? Much better thanks to the mattress pads! I tossed and turn way less than I had been, had fewer dreams than normal. Plus my hip does not hurt! Yesterday it hurt the entire day! Normally when I get up in the morning it is because my hip huts so bad I cannot stay in bed, (OK Couch) this morning there was no discomfort! Yes Best $26.00 I spent in years!

"JaBear"
Jake. Thank you for bringing to my attention the "Dogfighting" series I will have to have a proper look when I get the time.

Bear, I have been watching them every night now for a week. I had been watching them a few years ago, but could not find any new ones so I stopped. Thanks for the Link Jake.

Rio Grand Front. The sound was coming from the rear truck. I was able to pop the worm gear cover off and Oil The Heck out of it. I would have made old Jed Clampett smile! But so far it has done the trick, no bearing sound.

I found the SD's where pretty much speed match so I but them in services last night dragging a 25 car train. Guessing they have had about 2 hours of work time now. While far from being quite, they are not making a ton of racket like they where.

Tonight after work I am going to oil the motor shaft's again and run them some more.

Jeffery, you are still using photo bucket, I have a question for you. Now when I posted a picture and click on it it does not make the picture bigger, but instead a person can go through all my photos. Your pictures on the other hand still get bigger like the old site did? How do you do that?

 Well, see you all later!

Wow! Thursday it was in the middle to high 80's. This morning it was 37 and felt like 17 with  bitter, gusty wind. Went out to put the weed and feed on the yards, but had to come back in the house to get a heavier coat and gloves. I'm telling you I just can't adapt to these sudden weather changes anymore. I guess the wife can't either because she's sitting in her recliner with a sweatshirt, sweater and wrapped in an afgan listening to one of her audio books. The furnace is set on 68, but she's cold in August too.

Did get the lawns done, but cancelled turning over part of the flower bed and planting some canna's that I'm trying to carry over from last year. Don't know what's on the schedule for the rest of the day now, maybe nothing. Now that I think of it, that sounds like a perfectly reasonable approach to my activity agenda. See you all later.

Morning All,

Not much planned for today. May go to the club later. They are having ops tonight but I will not participate since I w**k tomorrow. I will be doing a additional 15 hours on Thursday for a co-worker.

I'm starting to get excited as we are getting closer to the train vacation (I call it that, I won't tell you what MOH is calling itWhistling), We leave on 5/11.

We are supposed to get heavy rain on/off from today through Monday night. It will  be a mess at w**k but the area really needs rain.

Hope everyone has a good day and prayers for those in need.

Ken: You have your 'Link Back Option' enabled. This adds an URL code to your image code lines. When someone clicks your photo(s) the URL link takes them to your account so they can look at your other photos. Seems all sites are trying to become 'social' these days. To disable this go to the top of your Photobucket screen and click on the down arrow next to your avatar. Click 'User Settings'. Click 'Albums'. Scroll down to 'Link Back Option'. Uncheck the box. Scroll down and click 'Save'. Go back to the top and click 'Library'. That's all there is to it.

Good morning, afternoon, whatever. It's 62° with 31% humidity. It's sunny and the high will be 70°.

Got a late start today. I'm very sore from yesterday and I am moving very slow. I feel like I've been hit by a jet propelled FP7 attempting to break the land speed record for a railroad locomotive. I think I'll just stay home today and hold down the bed.

Howdy

Rob ... Please check your emails. I sent a message to you.

JimCG .... Good to see you had time to post. I like the way you take time to talk with everybody. We have relatives in 4 of the cities we pass through on our Southeastern trip starting tomorrow. Since JohnBoy will be in this region, maybe he can stop near you and/or me. ...... JohnBoy. Are you reading this?

Ulrich ... Praying for your situation. You are doing the right things.

Mr. B ..... I'm sure it was a terrifying week in your area. Glad the 2 brothers are no longer at large.

I won't have much computer time for the next week.

Cheers, everybody.

"JaBear"
Jake. Thank you for bringing to my attention the "Dogfighting" series I will have to have a proper look when I get the time.

Bear, I have been watching them every night now for a week. I had been watching them a few years ago, but could not find any new ones so I stopped. Thanks for the Link Jake.

Your welcome. What stinks is the fact that  Dogfights was cancelled after two seasons. It had a lot of potential. Last show "Dogfights of the future". Goes over the F-22 Raptor, F-35, and potential Su-47.

Hi ya all,

At work today and tomorrow forgot to tell me about tomorrow, Oh well, Wifey isn't home anyway.
GARRY,  shoot me a PM with your address and phone number,, never can tell, if I can work it in I will certainly try.   CAPE JIM, that goes for you as well, if you are so inclined.  Would really enjoy meeting you fellas.
Just about time to shut it down here for the day and start  my closing rounds.
Wonder what the neighbors dragging in for supper ,    Just kidding..
Hope everyone is having a better week-end than what this week was.  We had a little snow here again this morning, ChochoWillie just keeps sending it this way.  He did miss fire earlier this week and the storm went south across the 49th and did a number on Eastern Montana and North and South Dakota.
Gotta Go, will try and stop in before bed tonight.
Zoe, have the H.C. and a couple of cookies waiting.
Johnboy out........................................catch ya later

from Saskatchewan, in the Great White North..

We have met the enemy,  and he is us............ (Pogo)
