Really cool picture of a mine Ken, where is it?

I think it's the Walthers kit on Ken's layout. He just tinted the pic in black and white to keep us guessin. Wink

They'd have to dodge the tree stumps.

Ahh, I see, it's a man made lake. What's it used for? Power generation. Couldn't be irrigation given the amount of rain you get.

As for tree stumps, don't they clear the area before damming up the water? They have to remove everything up here before they dam the water

Ah maybe it's cypress trees growing in the water. Never thought of that.

Nope, it's old pine trees. Back in the late 50's when the lake was planned nobody cared about clearing the area first. The original purpose for the lake was as a giant flotation pond (4,600 acres) for a timber company. The lake was created in 1961 by damming up several large creeks. However the timber company backed out and the parish was stuck with a lake. It didn't take long for some to see the possibilities of a recreational lake. There's been much talk over the years of clearing the dead timber from the lake but that's all it's been, talk.

Luke warm coffee refill, please.

Back from dentist and can't drink anything hot for 24 hours. Only took 3 treis to set the new crown. Tooth cleaning was fun also. And we PAY them to do this to us? Hmm

If I doze off in the corner booth, please just let me be.

Healing thoughts for those in need.

let's  see got a math test today after I finish my math homework, this one I have in the bag even if I don't do very good. I got one goal, that's to make it to friday in one piece so I can get my check and order myself a pair of specially commissioned SP&S RS3's from lowell smith. the same place I got #99, could it be that I may end up switching from the BN to the SP&S? Nah, I love the big green freight machine too much.

 Morning

Flo, Diet Dew to Go pleases!

Yep, it is that time again! No real time for trains this morning but I did put out some resumes. Cannot say any of the jobs I applied for are ones I want. But one thing for sure is I don't want this one any longer.

Vince, will send the check out Tuesday.

The wind has come up here, about 25-30mph and the white caps are rolling on the lake. To be more accurate, big waves out in the deep water and BIG white caps in the shallow areas. Anybody out there has got to be a nut!

I helped my father with his project this morning then we went to the Waffle Shoppe in New Llano for breakfast, so it hasn't been a totally wasted morning.

Morning all: Seems like everyone's a comedian around here today. Let me just say this "Don't quit your day job" those of you who have one that is Laugh

Still got the white fluffy stuff falling from the sky here. Sheesh, winter is suppose to be uhh, waning isn't it. Oh right,, this is Alberta. We can get the white stuff 12 months of the year.... really!

Darned cat has decided that 5 AM is the time for Mom and Dad to start the day. Wakes us up, bugs us for his morning treat and his breakfast has a lap cuddle as I drink my coffee then off he goes to have his morning nap. Job Accomplished. Some times wonder why we love him.

Have a Honey Do list to go running for this morning, plus I'm once again out of wire. Not really, I just don't have the right colors/gauge for what I'm doing. This hobby sure takes a lot of wire.

Well, better go chase the vac around the living room. Seems to be one of "my" jobs since MOH wrecked her back a few years ago.

Warm thoughts to all

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a bowl of hot oatmeal with brown sugar and a cup of dark roast coffee this morning.

Currently 24°F outside and all the furnaces are off.  Lucky I got up early enough to rake the coals and the wood stove fired right up for me.  I have it 69° here by the computer right now.

Furnace guys showed up at 8:25 for their 8:30 appointment and there has been lots of noise going on down cellar.  Manét has been over to meow his displeasure about the noise several times.  Old furnace is gone and they drilled the hole through the side of the house for the exhaust pipe as the new one is already in place and being hooked up as I type.

Todd, so there is a Methodist in your Madness?

Ulrich, you have been through a great deal with this, but do know how much better off your parents are because of what you have been doing for them!  Good luck moving them closer to you and know you remain in my prayers.

Have a number of deadlines to meet this week so I best get started.

Later!

Good Afternoon!

I am glad I survived this morning. My parents do their very best to take care of an early end for me. After a number of really unpleasant phone calls, my heart was acting like a roller coaster. I went to see my doc and he was not at all pleased with my condition. He told me I am suffering from a total burnout and urgently told me to find a way to relax. But how to?

On the positive side, I have lost 30 lbs. in the process.

Did I mention my brother called my parents yesterday? That explains why they were all mad this morning. Thursday will see the move to the new place. Once that´s done, I will drastically reduce my care for them - just to keep my own health and sanity.

Enough of that - have a good one!

Thanks. Wish I could take credit for it but it was already assembled and painted when I got it.

Good morning. It's 49° with 95% humidity. The high will be 72°. A wind advisory is in effect.

Looks like it's going to be a windy day here come about 10am. The weather guesser is talking about a south wind around 25mph coming up with gusts to 35mph. It's calm outside right now. Not a breath of wind.

It should be a good day to get some layout work done provided something else doesn't come up which it probably will after I've picked up three items. I'm also toying with this crazy idea of starting work on the primer gray FP7 to get the grabs and rails mounted. This includes drilling the holes for them. See why that sounds like a crazy idea?

EDIT: Well, I said I might get something done provided something else didn't come up. Well as usual something has. About one minute after I typed that my father called saying he has something I need to help him with. Isn't that always the way?

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and hashbrowns covered in sausage gravy with a couple scrambled eggs pitched on top please. Oh and could I get a couple pieces of whole wheat toast and some apple jelly too? Thanks.

A chance of snow and sleet before 1pm, then a slight chance of rain. Cloudy, with a high near 40. Gotta dusting of the white stuff already.

Ray- You up??!! Furnace guy’ll be here in a bit. Hope all goes well there. A little stiff this morn? You start being a little more careful….er. We don’t want you falling and  laying around waiting for help some day.

Like Ray, I don’t like leaving the house with a fire going even if it’s the dryer. So we don’t even leave with the clothes dryer running. However, we don’t give the furnace a second thought. Nor the water heater.Tongue Tied

Hello Cape Jim! Good to see ya. I know yer still kickin from the e-mails, just nice to see you in the diner once in a while.

Welp, today…, er yesterday (getting ahead of myself there) went as planned. Pretty much so I guess, though not as many naps, and not as much done to the layout as wantedLaugh. Applied a couple rock faces (need more) and put some joint compound over the plaster cloth. I need more Joint compound as the bucket I have is moldy and I’ve pretty much dug around as much as I can/want. I also ballasted about a foot of track between the rails going into the tunnel and under the bridge. Vice versa actually. Might do the sides this afternoon or evening. It’s a small area and I want to get the scenery pretty much done before I set the bridge you know. This drying time is a killer. I should look for something else to do while that is happening, but my continuing resolution of completing one project before starting another has been such a good one. Hmm Maybe if I look at the railroad differentlyConfused….hm. Yes, maybe so.

Got both batteries in the ole power drill (not the one with the fried charger) charged up and ready for action. Today is the day we tear the pews out of the Church Sanctuary and put them in an adjacent room. We’re “refreshing” the Sanctuary with paint, new carpet and lighting. Should take a couple weeks. Preacher said next Sunday is “Casual Sunday” because we’ll be in the basement for services.

Best get a movin so I’m not late. Project begins at 8 am with coffee and donuts…..Hey….. We’re MethodistsDinner Laugh. I kinda wanna get there to take some before pictures. We’ll see.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Jeff -  that's an interesting 'Guns & Tackle' shop - it reminds me of a DPM/Woodland Scenic white metal kit, but the roof on it looks... different than I recall. Have you had that long?

That's exactly what it is, a Woodland Scenics white metal kit. There were a couple of variations that could be built with what was in the kit. I picked it up last year (assembled of course) in a trade I believe. I've made no changes to it.

Evenin', Flo - I'll have a hot fudge sundae and a Santa Fe mug of decaf, please. Getting a little later (but not nearly time to head for the sack yet!). Thanks!

Have been reading through Darth Santa Fe's topic on upgrading an Athearn Hustler. Really nice job (and some other examples in there, including from our own Karl. Thumbs Up Now, DSF's got me hankering for fixin' up a Hustler of my own. Whistling Whole project doesn't really make sense, given all the parts and stuff I'd have to buy (including a Hustler; have NO idea where the one I had went off too...). Maybe I should take a nap back in Duke's booth until the urge goes away?

Not sure if Garry picked a good time to head in an easterly direction, with the sn*wy weather THAT's been cruising through the upper Midwest lately. We even got a light dusting of the white stuff on my car a couple/three days ago - had to get out my broom to sweep it off. Hope you Diners in the Great Lakes and Applachian vicinities haven't been getting totally drifted in. Surprise

Galaxy, hope YOH gets a favorable decision tomorrow, even with doing THAT dastardly deed of punching in a WHOPPING WHOLE MINUTE early! (?? Huh?Whistling) Sheesh, glad I'm not on a time clock at my office - sometimes I come in five or ten minutes early (to catch up on paperw**k) - they'd nail me for sure on that! Oh, that going back to school/training sounds like a good idea (even if you all win on the decision). Ditto on Ray's suggestion in case they get picky on MOH's case.

OUCH!  Black Eye Ray, better watch out where you put your feet when it's cold/sn*wy out. You don't want a repeat of that 'wood attack' again!

Jeff - nice photo of the 'back shop' of Sundown Shops there, and it doesn't surprise me a bit that you have so many locos that (ahem, cough...) do not seem to have their origianl drives/chassis's...Thumbs Up Hey, that's an interesting 'Guns & Tackle' shop - it reminds me of a DPM/Woodland Scenic white metal kit, but the roof on it looks... different than I recall. Have you had that long?

Ontario RonWelcome to the Diner from me also. And have a mug/cup of your favorite beverage on me. Feel free to fill us in on your layout (if you haven't already - I'm still catching up on posts). At least you haven't  caught Barry's cold (yet)...Whistling

Ulrich, AngelAngel for your parents (& you and Petra) to survive their brief stay at THAT home, until they get into the (better) more stable one. Good to hear you may have a buyer for your parents' home already. Thumbs Up

Todd, as Mark Twain said, rumors(rumours) of my passing have been greatly exaggerated; just MIA is all. Oops I have been tossing around the idea of some 'analog' (pencil & paper) sorting out some of my priorities (including MRR'ing) to get more of things (like MRR'ing) that I enjoy more. Got somewhat sucked in by digital things of a more secondary nature - that, and trying to get paperw**k caught up at the office... I did over this weekend do some layout noodling with a layout design program I have on my Mac. Have decided that I should wait until I get THAT spare room space (which I do not YET have). Hey, Todd - are you taking lessons from Duke, or thinking about trying to take over his reserved spot in that back booth? Wink

Oh, Todd, I would 'weigh' in with you about fast food places - most of the time, I'd like to order off the children's menu (not just for price), because the portion sizes are way bigger than I need. That, and it's hard to get grilled instead of fried (fewer, if any choices) or to get a healthier set of choices. Oops, better stop on that for now - I see the SoapBox coming out of its corner... We still have the Welcome! sign, by the way.

Curt, I like your wheelcar there! Yeah

Barry, have you ever considered having a nice G scale garden RR (or should I say, harbor RR...)? Whistling You do seem to get water problems in your yard a bit. Wink How's your cold/sinus/diseasery coming along?

Broadway, nice shot of your office - worthy of a sysop, indeed! That, or you have some wicked big spreadsheets to go over... Smile, Wink & Grin

OzJim - good to see you again (though your taxes there sound as bad as some of ours on this side of the Western Pond...). How's the job been going? Layout progress? (Me neither...Sigh)

CDN Dennis, I LIKE your photo of that CN caboose. Smile

Ken, good to hear your layout's A & B route/lines are coming back from their trip down 'Murphy Lane'... Enjoy that barbeque! Dinner

Jake - sounds like you had some good fortune at the train show. Thumbs Up

Welp, about time for me to head for bed now, and see if that w**k cell will sleep through the night also. Hope so!

Prayers for those in need of healing, or at a (relatively) new job, or in need of comfort and a good night's rest. I will maybe get some MRR'ing done tomorrow (after I help my buddy Mark get iTunes (and the iPod Touch (2nd gen.) I gave him) up and running - and we'll grab lunch also. So likely, my MRR stuff will be in the afternoon. Have a deBay auction or two I may bid on tomorrow evening (maybe).

Blessings,

Jim in Cape G. (cold, but dry tonight)

No cleanup on the layout today. I did get the decoder in the gray primered FP7 changed out and I tore down another unit for a full cleaning and inspection. It's back together and checked off the list as A-OK. I have several left to do. I won't need the heater tonight. The low will be 45° with a south wind.

Time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, a cup of decaf and an advil please....

This has not been my week!  After the meeting at the museum a couple of us went around to the side of the depot to grab a couple armloads of wood to fill the box back up a bit for the old pot bellied wood stove in the office (the only source of heat in the building).  I picked up an armful and proceeded around the other side of the depot didn't see the Black Ice from a downspout at the corner and went down on one knee and over hitting my face against the armload of wood in my arms!  Lucky there was not a sliver of wood sticking up or I might have been much more seriously hurt.  As it is a have a few abrasions on my face and a sore knee.  I'll heal I guess.

Have pretty much just cooled it the rest of the day.  Other than feeding the wood stove to keep warm I haven't done much.  The furnace guy should be here at 8:30 tomorrow to start the install.  If all goes well I will have central heat by tomorrow night!  Yeah!

Ken, I sure hope your Karma isn't gonna run over my Dogma!!!  WhistlingLaugh

Hope all of you have a pleasant night and sllep well!  Prayers for all in need, including me!
