OK RAY- Today I did my grocery shopping and will spenfd the afternoon doing laundry!!! Did the pharmacy yesterday. should/could do some banking but not urgent! Today i get my check {4th wednesday of the month and so i can pay some bills. Will do one tomorrow and visit the parental unit.too.
MOH has to go relieve the FIL so FIL can take their cat to the vet. Our cat needs his shots again, needs to be shaved {long hair getting in knots, and he WON'T let you comb them out anymore either} but won't let you touch, pickup or hold him -at 15 he is a cranky old codger!!!
Maybe while laundry is going I can get the table top trains put away,,,,they need a good dusting first. Then MOH will have no complaints about them! I need to get that done as MOH { who DOES have respect for trains} tends to use the table top layout as a catch-all for everything!
We have been perusing SAvannah Georgia as a possbile place to retire to..Hawaii is where we'd LIKE to go,but need the $$$ to do that. Savannah appears cheaper, of course it could disappear into the water if the oceans rise!!! We don't like FLorida and it is too overcrowded there anyway. My parents have a property in florida I may inherit it too, but we don't like the area. It is a rental unit investment to them. Savannah seems nice enough. Dunno, maybe check out Atlanta too, it won't sink! Instead of buying a property here, we may just {when we are able to} buy down there instead, rent out until the parents pass, then move there. prices not bad right now, either.
Well, off to take a nap and rest my achin' back!
OH< if I disappear for awhile it is because AOL says we we money...that the billing method is no longer valid, so we may lose AOL for awhile, and I hate accessing through other methods!

Good Afternoon Gang!
I am feeling quite miserable - fighting a headache. The move of my parents has been arranged - on March 7th, we will go up north, pack up their gear, wait for the special taxi to take them down south. It´s a 100 mile trip, certainly not going to be that comfortable for them, as my Dad has to be transported in his wheelchair. There is no way he could get in and out of a normal car. We will drive up north tomorrow to pack up a few things from their house and take it back to our place, just to have it handy when my parents move. Lots of administrative work ahead of us, but that´s quite OK. My parents prove to be a big PITA the last two days. They ring us up a minimum of ten times a day. I am fine helping them, but I am not their babysitter - period. Starting to get mad at them...
Well, rant´s over - have a good one!
Extra strong coffee in a UNION PACIFIC mug, please.
Have a good day all.
Cheers! Rob
Good morning. It's 41° with 94% humidity. Mostly cloudy now clearing to partly cloudy later. The high will be 65°.Today I'm working on the FP7's. The work is easy but a bit time consuming. I'm cutting factory coupler mount off the rear of the shell and removing a predetermined amount of plastic along with it. I'm then mounting a Kadee #242 draft gear box with a #148 coupler in that location. I've already done two this morning. That leaves two more yet to be done. Below are before and after photos from the same loco. The top one is before the conversion, the bottom one obviously is after. The only tricky part is cutting the right amount off the Kadee coupler box so it clears the rear truck. A self tapping screw is then used to hold the box and coupler in place. And yes, I know Kadee calls for a #34 coupler for the rear of the Atlas/Roco FP7 but doesn't tell you how to get rid of the flop. I'm putting a center shank coupler at the proper height and doing away with the flop. The only other plans for today are to clean up the layout a bit more.

You know, they say the average human walks about 900 miles a year and they consume about 22 gallons of beer… a year. Now I’m not sure how this equates for those who do not drink beer, but statistically, we get about 41 miles per gallon which I don’t think is all that bad considering.
Welp, didn’t get no 3 or 4 inches…..maaaybe two. Pretty much streets clear and it’s misting snow right now. Glad I didn’t go to the trouble of getting the snowblower out. Todays forecast reads as follows; Occasional snow showers. High near 35. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.
Ken- Sounds to me like ole Tyler is in a bit over his head. Stressing out as they say.
Ulrich- I hope this w**ks for you and for your Parents. It will be easier and less expensive to get there too. I hope this place is nicer, some can appear nice until you are there. Either way, you have no choice. It has to be this way. I know what you mean about no time for the hobby. Many say just relax and spend some time in a hobby. Well that's easier said than done. Just doesn’t happen when you are “it”. Luckily this forum helped with keeping me into the hobby. Just that bit in the morning where I could take just a few minutes and get away from all the hubbub. It’s also helping me get back down there to Toddland (where I am king) from time to time. If it weren’t for this place, I probably would have just said "forget it (like so many other things I want to do) let’s face it I’ve no time". I still have things that keep me from w**king on the layout and also, I admit, just shear habit not to. If that makes any sense.
I need to better manage my time I suppose. I do have most everything done now that I’ve had to put off for those last years with Mom, but I do have some inside projects left that I haven’t started. I need to do these things like a job. W**k on them from like 8 to 5, then relax of an evening with choo choo time ever so often. Brilliant!! Yes, that’s what I’ll do from now on!
Yah, right. Anyway, time for a shower then Ziva.
Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Morning guys
Been working on a GP7, and figured out how to do the steps GN had originally put on their GP7-20s (and later BN did to the GPs of the Q, SP&S, and NP).
Some modifications to the inside of the step well were needed to support the inboard bracket. The pilot had to be modified to support the other bracket. The modifcations were done with scrap pieces of styrene. 2 pieces of .03 square rod glued together make up the pilot piece, and 2 scrap pieces of .02 sheet were glued back to back to makethe inboard supports for the brackets. Later release P2K geeps will need pilot modifications.
1 down, 3 more for this GP7. Then comes the other 14 or so locos and at about 5 bucks a loco for etched steps (and I screwed some up), this could get pricy....
Last night I got a dremel from a club member for $50. Brand new, but I realized after I agreed to buy it that it's the battery version. Oops....

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
Good read on the history of a sugar plantaion {without the trains}:
http://www.yourislandroutes.com/articles/sugarplantoahu.shtml
http://archives.starbulletin.com/2003/09/28/special/story4.html
One more for those wondering if I'm all Hawaii railway'd out:
This sugar-cane saddle tanker was one of many purchased by W G Irwin on behalf of Hawaiian agricultural companies. The Honolulu Plantation holdings were on Oahu near Pearl Harbor. Pu'uloa originally was named Aiea, but the name lettered on the tank was Pu'uloa.
The railroad that began operation in 1901 (see p. 83 of the Bishop study) used the Pu'uloa as its only engine. The locomotive was kept busy as the rolling stock included 500 cane cars. Later based at the mill at 'Aiea, the Pu'uloa was sold in 1925 to the O'ahu Sugar Company, which operated in the same area of O'ahu.
Enthusiast Hal Wilmunder bought the Pu'ulao in 1964 and moved it to Camino, Calif. In 1974, the Hawaiian Railway Society bought the engine, returned it to Hawaii, where it went on display in Ewa (on O'ahu).

We're actually getting a fair bit of it at the present time and as there is a total fire ban and the fire risk is extreme could really do with some rain. The average rainfall here for January and February is 6.9 inches , we have had less than half an inch. Am quite sure that with the battering the Aussies have been getting lately, they wouldn't mind sharing some of the rain with us.

Have just finished a pencil sketch that I am going to give a young friend as a personal wedding present this Saturday. His farther was killed in a road accident several years ago, ( to good a pilot to be killed in an aircraft) and I have been asked to speak for his Dad and so wanted to give him something special. It is of his Dads first dung duster depicted in the King Country 30 years ago. Now a days with digital cameras and cell phones with cameras in them, I think we take for granted the amount of photos taken on various subjects, apart from a few grainy "Instamatic" shots and some "static" photos there's not much record of back then.

Evenin' folks!
Janie, I sure could use a nice hot cup of decaf right now... Why thank you Ma'am!
The MLK Meeting went quite well tonight. We got a huge amount of business done and people assigned tasks leading up to the Scholarship Dinner in May. Of course several of those jobs are as always assigned to me... I don't mind as most of the things I enjoy doing and am glad I am still able to be of service.
When I left the meeting, the cloudy sky had opened up a bit and some wet stuff was falling.... I just looked out the window and the wet stuff has now turned to partly cloudy falling at a pretty good rate. I would say we are getting close to a inch or more an hour of "Partly Cloudy". So much for the all rain event! About an inch and half on the ground at the moment. May have to start the old noisy gas guzzler to clean out the driveway in the morning. I just may decide I don't need to go anywhere and wait until it melts. I'll decide in the morning.
Ken, glad you had a good day at w*rk! I am enjoying the photos you have been posting.
Guess I shall check the wood stove and head out to bed.
Prayers for all in need!

Flo, surprised to see me this early? Yep got out on time for a change! Beer Pleases.
Work Front Got a nasty phone call from Tyler today at 9:30 AM wanting to know why I was not at work? Told him as far as I knew I did not come in till 1:00 PM and that I was closing everyday this week! He looked at the schedule, came back to the phone and apologized, I was right!
When I got to work Tyler had all ready went home, he really does need some time off. He has worked everyday for 3 weeks. With him gone I had a pretty stress free day and made a few bucks.
Health / Work Front. Not sure yet if I am going in Wednesday yet. Been having sines problems for a few days, now on the same side I have a small tooth ache. (is that spelled right, sure does not look right) Plus on and off today I felt like I had a fever. My days of going to work sick is over!
Well I see you all later.

thanks rob, that's awesome, sorry about your father. My Opa was a warrant officer in the army he was a huey pilot and a tank commander I have his coffee mug. Mint tea, please.
***Gary, cool model. Look forward to seeing the finished product. Love WWII planes myself. Used to have many models of them, but nothing that compared to those of my two neighbors growing up. One was a German friends father who was a very fine model builder with a basement full of WWII planes. The other was Admiral Spangler who also had a room full of WWII models hanging from a ceiling. I was hooked, but mine were not even kits, but neat little Mini-Planes. Ah the ariel battles I had with those. BTW, my dad was lead bombardier for a group of B24 Liberators. Recently received some of his lost medals. Unfortunately, he had already passed on last year, but at least he saw the confirmation letter that they were being sent.
Last nights wind storm landed a tree across my driveway, taking out the powerline and snapping the top of my power pole. Here is a pic of the work crew preparing to remove the old pole, followed by other pics.
http://s1200.beta.photobucket.com/user/Robert_Cederstrand/media/WindStormPowerCrew_zps9ace6d91.jpg.html#/user/Robert_Cederstrand/media/WindStormStew_zpse917024c.jpg.html?&_suid=136193538979309662631678379412 (for some reason, the link jumps ahead one pic to the stove, so click the back arrow to take a look)
With the power out, I cranked up the wood stove and made a yummy pot-roast today. Also, once the driveway was cleared from the first crew, I darted out to the PO where I had a package waiting. It was the WS City Hall/Police building. Very nice!
Has been a long day, so Good Night all.

Had Fettuccine Alfredo for dinner tonight, something I don't have often. Well as I reported earlier I got my fifth FP7 today. That makes four Atlas and one Con-Cor. I don't much like the mostly plastic motor Con-Cor used. When it fails I'll slip in a PPW can motor. Enough about that. Back to the new arrival. It's a 70's era Atlas model. I had to put a bunch of work into it, little things mostly but they were time consuming. I did something new on the rear coupler. On all my FP7's a #5 or #148 would be too low. This time I calculated how much I'd have to shave off the rear of the shell to have #148 in a #242 draft gear box at the proper height then ground off that much. I also had to chop off about half the length of the box to clear the rear truck. I installed the coupler and box then checked it with my Kadee coupler height gauge. It's right on the mark. I know what I'll be doing to the other four FP7's. I also installed a DCC decoder. I hard wired in a 9-pin harness and plugged in an old Lenz decoder. It'll do for testing and a good run-in. Later I can pull out the Lenz and plug in a Digitrax DH123 when I have one to put in. That was my fun for today.Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.
Good evening ....
CDN Dennis .... The brake line model is impressive. I see they got rid of the trip pins.
Ulrich .... Sounds like a positive step is being made for your parents.
Those model airplanes reminds me of some I made as a kid. I assembled them in my bed, and later my mother completed about glue in the sheets.
Not too much done with teh layout today. It's busy. I'm getting ready for a trip.
Cheers, everybody.

Lehigh Valley 2089 Burlington Northern #24 I've always loved trains , but I discovered the airplane at an early age. Specifically the War plane, it has a lot to do with my love of history. My favorite aircraft is the B-17, but there is a list of my favorites too many to name off it's an assorted grab bag of WWII, vietnam, cold war, and modern aircraft. Mostly US with some from other countries. so here's a 1/144 scale F-15 I've been working on today. My interest doesn't end with WW2 aircraft. I also have a weakness for the F86 Sabre, the F4 Phantom 2, and the F22 Raptor.

JeremyBJeff: We are going to get some real nasty weather here tonight also. But in the form of snow.
galaxyStorm a movin' in tonight! hopefully not much in the way of accumulation!
From what I see at the Weather Channel website it looks to be mostly in the form of a liquid where you are... Maybe some freezing rain, sleet, and other stuff... Looks to be about the same here in the Finger Lakes area. Most of the stuff that accumulates on the ground should be to the west of us. Still rather icky weather though. Good time to spend the day in the trainroom.
I just put out some kittie treats for the boys. Manét was over asking for them. Blackie was still on the couch where the two of them have spent the entire day since this morning. I went in and Blakie smelled the treats on my hand, stood up and looked at me as if to say, "Daddy, aren't you going to carry me out so I can have some too?" I carried him him out to the kitchen, he ate, and then came into the office area to get picked up and cuddled for a while. he has now hobbled back to his perch on the couch. I try to get him up and moving around on his own power as much as possible.
About time to think about making some supper....
Later!
Ken : Good luck on the job search, your right that is no way to have to go through each day at work
Jeff: We are going to get some real nasty weather here tonight also. But in the form of snow.
Well Guys,
I have had a miserable couple days. Its just my luck too as I got a new job last week which I like and come Sunday night and Monday I have had a bout of stomach sicknesses like I have never had in my life. I lost count how many times I . I had to call in sick on Monday and I could only manage 5 out of 8 hours today. Also to top that off we are expecting a massive snowstorm tonight which will make it very hard to get to work tomorrow. Its so frustrating, I get a new job last week and have to call in sick already. I am more mad then anything to tell you the truth. I came home today at 11:30 and was asleep by 12 and just got up now. Just very weak feeling right now. I haven't been sick to my stomach in years and no soon as I get a job BAM.....
howmus Afternoon folks! I did my laundry today... Two loads of wash are in the dryer at the moment. When grocery shopping. No, Galaxy, you aren't the only one who has to do THAT... Done spent enough $$$ today that I have now earned 50¢ off per gallon next time I fill up the PIP. Probably will be this Saturday so I can get the tank level down below 1/3 of a tank before I patronize the Oil Baron's Establishment. I have put 438 miles on this 10.5 gallon tank so far. Computer says I have averaged 68 mpg this time.

Oh well,

I finally received my Atlas FP7 in the mail today, eleven days after it was shipped. It's a 70's era model as I expected. Originally Santa Fe, somebody stripped it and very carefully sanded off all the molded on grabs then painted it primer gray. A diesel detail kit came with it. It's standard DC of course. I test ran it to see if the motor works. It works quite well but the gears were as dry as burnt toast and very loud! Add to that the pickups on the rear truck were loose and the pickup keepers had fallen off. I had my work cut out for me. I got all that sorted and it runs smooth and quiet now. That makes five FP7's I have now, four 70's era Atlas and one 80's era Con-Cor. Here's what $20 bought:
Now I gotta get me something to eat. My blood sugar is down to 67. When I get to working on stuff like this it's almost to the exclusion of all else!
Ulrich.... Wonderful! I hope this happens without a hitch for you! Still keeping you and yours in my prayers.
Have everything ready (I hope) for the MLK Committee meeting tonight. I will have to do some explaining about my mathematical methodology in coming up with the profit/loss (it is a several hundred $ loss) on this years MLK Service last month. We plan on losing money on the service, but this year due to number of people we fed and some other items we lost a bit more than usual. Several quirks in accounting presented themselves like the person with the bill for the programs giving her yearly donation by paying part of the cost and keeping the cash from another person to help pay for the printing... Means we have $85 that should have gone to the Scholarship fund that is essentially not shown in all the accounting and hasn't been transferred over to the 501c account yet. The $$$ works out to be the same but I expect some members to question the figuring. I also printed up a handful of last years scholarship applications so we can, hopefully do some updating before they have to over to the high school next month.
Sky is getting greyer outside, but today has been a great day for electric production. I am definitely now past the total for last November for production. I like.... At 12 noon it was at 9.25 KWh already.
Just a quick update. My parents have agreed to move into the place close by. Big sigh of relief. It´ll be a handsome piece of work to get the second move done. I still have hopes that we will get back into calmer waters then.
At the moment I have lost interest in just about everything. No thoughts of MRRing, no nothing. This will change as soon as Petra and I have a chance to come back to our normal life.
Ken - keeping my fingers crossed for the job hunt!
