Evening All,
35 degrees right now with a small crescent moon peeking through some clouds.
Had a oddball work schedule today 11 to 6. Made an appointment to see my family doc regarding my knee as requested by the ER doc, can't get in to see him until March 5. Glad it is not life threatening.
Need to order 2 #2 Wye and a #4 RH turnout from Walthers, and 4 Switch Tender motors from Micro Mark, so they get here by Fri. the 22nd, as I have that weekend off and can do some heavy work on the layout.
Prayes to all in need.

Prayers and blessings for all who stand in need.
Galaxy, I hope your household start to feel much better real soon.
Garry, Safe trip and I hope you find your MIL in a restful and peaceful condition.
Hi Paul, glad to see you back on board here and getting that layout moved so it will be more accessable for you. Stay well my friend.
Bama, Hope you are OK down there. Haven't heard from you in awhile.
Thoughts and prayers to all who suffered from those storms and twisters.
Ulrich and Petra, Let peace and rest be your friends, You have been good stewards of your parents, we all know that. A very happy Birthday to Petra...... How does it feel to be 21 again, young Lady ??
As was said, Night all, sleep well, Good morning Tipton Bill, you early bird you....

Janie, just another cup of decaf please...
Ran around town doing a lot of odds and ends, post office, credit union, the bank for the MLK Scholarship account and down to Lowes for a couple new fans to move heat around from the wood stove better. Since it was warmer today the PIP stayed in EV mode the whole time so the trip cost me about 25¢ for energy.
I also got a bit more done on some projects for the layout. I am making a sign to put on the powerhouse with the name of the plant, "Brownidge Station" named after Greenidge Station just South of here which isn't... The place got mothballed a little over a year ago, but could come back online as a bio fuel generating plant. I am trying to come up with a catchy name for the company running it like, Spark and Arc, Inc. I dunno... Suggestions are always welcome.
Thanks Karl, Blackie seems to be better at the moment. I called the vet and we are cutting his medicine in half. She says many cats can't tolerate the high dose. She thinks that is why he was vomiting last night. He has been acting much more normal this afternoon. Ate some supper too. He may still end up on insulin shots.... No meds today, and he gets half a pill tomorrow morning.
Think I shall head out to cut some .
See you all tomorrow! Prayers for those in need.

Flo, can I have a RBF and some of that blueberry pie I saw in the case.
Been busy today, job searching, ran to the post office to drop of some packages from my ebay auctions, then a haircut, then back home to install a tsunami , still working on the ditch lights for the bugger, but my eyes have had enough for tonight. Drilling the housings and installing surface mount LED's is a young mans sport!
Galaxy, rest your back, it's the only one of them you got!
Ray, Poor Blackie! Hope the little guy feels better soon. Tinker has just gotten over her 3rd urinary tract infection in 6 weeks. 1st they tried this, then that, then x-rays, then blood tests, then diet changes. I started to get a little upset when the Dr. prescribed a certain cat food that was mostly made from grains. When Midnight was diagnosed with Diabetes 2 years ago (different vet) we were told it was caused by grains in his diet. Last week we decided to modify her diet with NO grains, and a lot more natural food with high meat percentages and higher moisture content. Vet seems pleased with her progress, but we havn't told the vet that we have deviated from her prescribed diet yet.

Garry, got MIL on the prayer list!
Ken. Kadee says a #5 id all ya need, ?? Glad to hear the foot is making progress, and since were in Hawaii, is that YOU with the red sports car??
Dennis. I know how you feel about painting. Spent my Saturday and part of Sunday rehabbing out laundry room. Putting in a new stationary tub moving the washer/dryer/freezer and a whole slew of plastic storage tubs of stuff just to repaint a room that she washes clothes in and the cats go to potty in. 2 cats, 3 litter boxes, I'm not even trying to understand....I know she can count!!
Well, gotta get my Walthers book out and look up some parts and email my LHS. Soooo sweet, he lets us regular (irregular?) customers email our orders by Tuesday, and pick up our orders on Friday!! AWESOME!!

Evening Folks: Kind of quiet here about today. Must be something to do with the storms and sn**fall aftermath in the east and south. Beautiful day here +28 F and sunny.
Busy kind of Monday for yours truly, started to paint the main floor bathroom. I abhor bathroom renovations I hated doing them when I was in the Home Reno business too and I was getting paid to do it then.
Oh well, better I do it myself. I've got more time than money these days.
Train Front - Got a big box of goodies today! Couple of box cars, couple of lumber cars, a bulkhead flatcar and 2 woodland scenic ready to go buildings. I couldn't resist the Hardware Store and the Fire hall. The fire hall looks so much like the one here when I was a kid that it was a "Have to have".
Still working on the window fill in and staging yard tracks as time between painting and such permits. Pictures to follow when I get it done

***Terry, neat scene there!
***Garry, I wonder if they make a decoder small enough for a Beyer Aspirin locomotive?
Dang pygmy goats escaped and attacked my new front yard orchard today while I was down at the barn. Will be posting FOR SALE signs this week at all the feed stores and selling then cheap. Re-painted the rimmed trunks and can only pray these little trees survive. Where the cpyotes when I need them?
Tooth aches tonight. Did take two Advil earlier, but need to stay away from immuno-suppressives, so won't take anymore. Tomorrow should be much better.
Have a good night all.

Evening Dinners
Flo, lots of beer pleases!
Spent the afternoon with the wife, reason for multiple . She is a sweet and loving person, and all so the Queen of repeating her self, over and over again! Drives my daughter and I nuts!
Vince How are you getting replacement motors from Athearn? They don't offer a life time warranty like Bachmann do they? Pretty sure there warranty is only a year at the most? I have a SD 50 and a Dash 9 RTR Athearn that needs motors I cannot afford. SD 50 has been a problem child from day 1! Dash 9 on the other hand ran for years pulling a ton of freight.
Train Front Yesterday I found that my Erie Built B unit was picking up power from only 1 wheel set? Today I opened the trucks (bit of a pain but not as bad as E-6's) and sprayed down the side frames with CRC, re-lubed and I think all is good again.
Speaking of PK 1000 Erie Built, does anyone have a link where I can get a coupler setup? I need one for the A unit front coupler.
Infected Toe Front It all most looks normal again! Well that is a bit of a stretch, if most of you toe look like mine you be heading to the ER. Wound depth is up to the bottom of the top layer of skin. Skin layer is starting to cover the open wound! Hole is now around 4/16th wide and 6/16th long!
See you all later.

Cederstrand Veggie/fruit Smoothie, please. Back from the dentist. There goes my Beyer Garratt fantasy. $1,100 out of pocket. Ouch! Opted for a crown, so at least I'll still have enough teeth left to chew food on both sides. Thought I had some Mortin around here, but evidently I don't. Guess if it starts bothering me when the numbness wears off I can always head back into town for some. Cheers! Rob

Afternoon guys
Murphy must be monitering me today. Not even 10 minutes after I put those thrall gons outside to try to re-paint the white (and the others black), it rains. And not just any rain, a freaking monsoon.
Anyways, I got my diploma in the mail today. I ran some errands as well. I ran to work to get my check, and wound up gaining a day to work. My check was higher than usual, so I have money to spend for once. Then I went to the eye glass place to see if my frames are still under warranty as the coating/plating/paint/etc. is coming off. Then to CVS to drop my prescriptions off.
Terry, they are pretty nice locos. I wonder how the shell compares to the P2K one?
Vincent
Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
CederstrandBack from the dentist. There goes my Beyer Garratt fantasy. $1,100 out of pocket.
Yup that's the way with DDS's. I't never ceases to amaze me how they can work on a tooth in your mouth and reach down through your throat into your wallet. Between MOH and myself, we spent close to $6K on our teeth just for a few fillings, two cleanings each and some xrays. MOH isn't done either. She has to have a root canal done to the tune of $847.00 for one tooth plus the crown plus they want to put in a new bridge to which she is saying NOT A Chance. I was supposed to get an upper and lower partial but said FORGET IT.
The DDS actually look offended when I told him that.
Those DDS folks make my blood boil.
OK, put the soapbox away.... End of Rant

Good afternoon. It's 50° here with 100% humidity. It's cloudy with a 70% chance of rain. The high will be 58°.We had another big storm slam through around 3:00 - 3:30 am. Lots of lightning and thunder and lots of rain. Since the several others have come through and I can see more on the way on the radar map.
Cable internet service has been down more than up today. I don't know why I keep paying for it. I'm definitely not getting my moneys worth. I've been at my fathers place most all day so far. We had breakfast in New Llano at the Waffle Shoppe and now he's working on lunch. So far I've seen cabbage, bacon, onions and peppers. I peeled the onions and cooked the bacon while he cut up the cabbage and peppers. Then he started on cutting up the onions when I was getting on this old computer I have here. There's another storm coming so I have to get out of here.
***Garry, I've had this latest round of coughing for at least 4 months I think, very bad at times. I did see a doc recently who found nothing so far as bronchitis or other such issues, so I figure it is just the battle going on with the sarcoidosis. The key for me is to limit the damage to the lungs while the innate immune response becomes more active over time. To involved to go into here, but I continue to do what offers the best chance for long term positive results. Not an easy road to take.
Going to just rest today. You all have a good one!
Been working on those Thrall Gons again. Even after a week of drying, the white still comes off on half the cars when masking it. I re-sprayed the white on the cars it came off on, just a mist and I'll keep misting it till it's white. Hopefully it'll stick, if not I'll primer the area and then try the white. I still need to touch-up the painted areas on the cars that are finished, but I'd like to do them all at once. Kind of annoyed about the 50% failure rate so I haven't touched the trains since.
I was cleaning my car earlier and found a quarter-sized area on the driver's seat where the fabric is tearing. I called my father and said I'd like to sew it up with my mom's sewing kit. Father said to put a shirt over it to prevent it from getting bigger, and have that portion of the seat redone with similar material later. He said this always happens to bucket seats... Who is right in this one?
Ken, Guess I could call athearn then. I don't have a flywheel puller, but it'd be nice if I did because I found a third BB SD40-2 motor (I have 2 powered units and a dummy for my BB SD40-2s).
Morning Dinners
Flo, Diet Dew Pleases.
Slept better last night, it would have been hard to have slept worse.
BoS One of the reason's I did not sleep well the other night was because of Bank Of Stupid! When I got home Saturday there was a door hanger on the front door from them. Well, this could not be good! I had been trying to call my BoS Rep for the past two weeks but all I get is her voices mail? Never a return phone call either. Her voices mail all so has a out of date message saying she would be back in on 1-29-2013?
I just called the phone number on the door hanger I got, went to her voices mail again. This time I push the star button to talk with another person. Seems all they want where copies of my last 2 bank statements? Now for the rant!
Last time I spoke with my BoS rep, she said they had all the paperwork they need to move forward! What can I say, there is a reason I called them Bank Of Stupid!
Vince Good luck on the SD40-2, glad you are starting to like it. I would dump the PC board that came on the engine! Or solder the lights wires to there contact point, light would not stay working.
Far as the motor, I am 95% sure Jeffery said the motor bearing's where shoot when I asked about them a few years ago. You can uses BB motors in the RTR junk, but you need change the flywheels.
See you all later
Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, I'll that pineapple stuff somebody, ah, Todd I think, is having and I'll even try a cup of the Kona coffee. Does it come in a dake roast... It does? Good, that's what I'll have.
Oooo , the big bright thing outside just came out from behind a cloud! Yes! May get a couple hours or so of good sunlight today.
Galaxy, hope your better half is feeling better today and your treatment helps you to be more comfortable as well.
Rob, hope the cough quieted down last night. Hate to lie awake and just cough all night. I get a touch of asthma from time to time (allergy related) and have that happen once or twice a year.
Todd, we all hope you will be successful quitting. My barber finally quit! Only took about 3 heart attacks, the last one would have been fatal except a client walked in his shop just as he hit the floor. Several stents later, including a couple in his leg arteries so he could continue to stand and walk short distances he is back at work. The one he got in his heart artery, the doc looked at him as he blew up the balloon and said just as the pain hit him, "Now are you going to quit?!? He finally has, decided he wants to see his grandkids grow up! We like you around here and don't want to lose you! So quit!
Blackie was not in good shape when I got up this morning. He threw up several time yesterday, was off his food, but was alert and wanted to play. This morning he had the dry heaves and was just leaving wet stops on my carpet. He won't touch the pill pockets. i prepared for the worst and called the vet. His regular vet is back working and so after a short wait she picked up the p[hone, and said, "What's going on with Blackie?" I started to tell her and she said, she was looking at his chart... Her take is he is not tolerating the high dose of the med he is on and to not dose him at all today, and tomorrow cut the dose in half. She said some cats can tolerate and are fine on the smaller dose. We will take it one day at a time. he has been moving around this morning.
It is currently 38°F here in the Finger lakes and the high this afternoon will be in the low 40's. Remember all the sn*w we got a couple days ago...? Most will be gone by nightfall tonight. Right now I can look around the neighborhood and see which houses need better insulation in the attics.....
Later!
Well
I got my spinal nerve pain injections done. Will be in agony from the trauma of it for a few days, but no rest for the weary,.
MOh is moving MUCH better today. Had to crawl on hands and knees to bed last night and out to LR this AM, but can now walk to toilet and back to bed,so MUCH better today. Refused to go to the hospital afraid they'd just say "muscle spasms and bed rest".
Got my father to take me to the injection apts as can;'t drive afterward.
So now bed rest for me too.
C ya's later!
Morning guys
Well the Dawn soap and water didn't do anything to the SD40-2s gears. I tried scrubbing it off with an old tooth brush, but it just left a black gunk that stuck to things and got everywhere. I thought it could be powdered graphite, so I googled up how to remove that. Turns out my old standby on removing gunk out of trucks is supposed to be very effective at it. So I grabbed a can of WD40 out of the garage and sprayed everything off (including the old tootbrush), then scrubbed it. They came out nice and clean, and the trucks are extremely free-rolling when the worm is removed. So all I should have left to do is re-assemble the thing and wait for the handrails to get here. I examined the circuit board some more and there is a place to attach an extra light function, so I'll use that for a beacon with a decoder that has extra function outputs.
I don't know why, but I'm beginning to like this loco. I think I'll hold on to it, and may even install my old soundtraxx decoder in it.
I'm thinking of going back to school for either IT or mechanical engineering. I can't find anyting for mechanical design, technical illustration, or drafting. I'm not having much luck at finding another job to supplant my fast-food job either.
Todd, definately quit smoking. When I was a teenager I vowed to never smoke after seeing what my grandfather has and is still going through. He's had 3 strokes and 2 heart attacks due to smoking, and he is slowly losing his vision. His heavy drinking probably doesn't help either, and it may be why I've never drank before. Somehow, he is still alive...
James, sounds like you lucked out.
Ken, Never heard of that happening, but if the bearings truely are bad then I'll call Athearn about getting another motor. They've been pretty good to me about these kinds of things. I've had to send in an RS3 (binded so bad that it was impossible to turn one way) and an F7 motor (cracked bell housing) before and they replaced them when I sent in the motor. I don't think the blue-box drive couplings will fit in the RTR frame, otherwise I could use the guts from one of my project SD40-2s (old BBs being modfied into BN) and run it for a while.
Jeff, do you know how to tell if a motor bearing is actually bad?
Good morning.
Rob .... What's going on with your cough? How long have you had it? Hope it is nothing serious.
Terry ...... I definately like your new GN SD45's.
OZ James .... Congrats. Ounds liek an interesting job. Tell more about it if you want.
Galaxy ....... Sounds like Mrs. Galaxy may have a serious injury. She must have medical attention ASAP.
Todd .... We''ll be glad to encourage you to quit smoking. I have friends who have quit smoking, they are glad they did, and they are very healthy. I have also known poeople who did not quit smoking, and they are now dead. It is not just that smoking kills you, it is how they kill you. You definately do not wish to suffer a painful lung disease leading to a terrible death. .... We're your friends here. We believe you will quit once and for all this time. Please don't disappoint us. Thanks.
Everybody ...... I posted my latest creation and attempt at humor in the Show Me thread. It's a billboard. You might get a kick out of it.
Good Morning All,
Couldn't get the post to w..k last night so gave up and got some shuteye. Day at the shop went well but didn't spend any time on the layout at all.
About 30F and freezing rain this morning. I'll have a regular and a Ham and Swiss croissant Zoe. Piles os s..w everywhere so it's hard to see gooing through interesctions but thankfully everyone was a bit slower and more cautious this morning.
Rob - hope things turn out ok for you and that the cough is not precursor to more issues.
Galaxy - The Haxaii tour is very interesting. Hope your pain treatment works and expecially hope your CFO is better. That shovelling stuff really takes it out of you.
Jeffery - glad you mmade it through the storms ok.
James - congrats on the new offer. Hope the physical goes well.
Gotta run - typical Monday in the shop. Catch Y'all Later, J.R.
