1952 Fleischmann Steam Locomotive
Posted by TMCentral on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 7:05 PM

I am restoring a Fleischmann 4-6-2 Steam Locomotive from 1952 and need Drive Screws to hold the valve gear to the drive wheels. I need 4 (for the front and back wheels) and 2 for the 2 Main Drive wheels. I'm trying to find some as close to the originals as possible. Any idea where I can find some or if any company makes driver screws to replace them? I would really appreciate any help! Thanks!

Finding original replacement parts for a 1952 Fleischmann Pacific is like the proverbial needle in a haystack, even in Germany.

The screws you need are metric screws, which were of bespoke design. I doubt that there is anyone around in the US, stocking these.

You may try your luck at the following Fleischmann service partner

Euromodellbahn International S.L, Stuehlingen/ Germany. You can contact them via email at

Do you have any of the original metric (presumably) screws and if so, what are the sizes, what type of head etc?   Armed with that info, small metric screws of various generic sorts are available in this country from a variety of sources, such as:

http://www.jimorrisco.com/

Some of our RC plane colleagues need small metric screws so sometimes wandering around other portions of the LHS might come up with usable stuff.

Reynaulds is probably the go to source for Fleischmann parts in the US although I suspect parts from the early 1950s may be highly unlikely to be on hand

On the other hand, and this is no dig at Fleischmann, they tended to keep stuff in their catalog for a long time so who knows when that 4-6-2 of yours actually went out of production?

Are we talking about this loco?

As you can see, the screws holding the the gear have a hexnut head. If your loco has also this pick-up, it may be one of the early production runs. It pays off to get that loco into a good condition, as it is valued up to close to $ 4,000 among collectors.

Hello again, and yes this is like the one I have, with only a couple of differences! Mine is all black with no red on the wheels or chassis. I don't have the fins on the top front of the boiler, and the screws DO have the hexnut head. Thank you so much for your info! I really appreciate it!

Thanks Dave! I did contact Reynaulds, but with no luck. They didn't have a schematic for this loco and the design of the screws have changed over the years. I will contact the other places! I really appreciate the help! Thanks!

Sir Madog

i have a Fleischmann 1360 01 1952 in excellent condition but no tinder to go with it. I know this is an old post but we're you correct when you said this piece was worth $4000 or so?? I have a collection that's been in storage for 50 years.

Complete locos of early 1952 vintage in mint condition have fetched prices like the one mentioned at special auctions. I don´t know how much is being paid for a loco without the tender and most likely not in its original box.

Collectors are a crazy bunch of people, so one never knows. The spread is enormous - from about $ 200 up to those $ 4,000.
