Not much going on today..might see about getting a more 'modern' water tower built for Sim's Jtn...

Up early today, didnt sleep much last night. I guess all the thinking about what job I want spilled over into my sleep, lol
Thanks Ken, I just caught that post now on the fish. Yeah I do need a better pump I don't think the one I have now is filtering enough. I try to change at least 25% of the water in the tank a week as was recommended by my local fish store and by alot of people on a aquariums forum, but its still a pain. Like I was saying I never bough the fish they were just left here by the previous owner ( I guess he assumed we wanted them ) I didn't want to take them to the fish store because im sure they would have become feeder fish to something bigger. So I am just caring for the until they die. I actually had one of them dies this morning. He had been looking rough for the last couple weeks now. Thats another reason I dont want fish is because when they get sick there isnt much you can do for them right? its not like a dog or cat that can be taken to a vet.
Heartland Division CB&Q Okay, Karl..... Looks like you have new avatar. Can you tell us about it?
Okay, Karl..... Looks like you have new avatar. Can you tell us about it?
That's my littlest Grandson,Harlan, with a candy mustache in front of him. For his older brother Navin's s birthday last week, they had a Mythbusters theme's party, and somehow they got these candy mustaches like they 1 guy on the show.
He just looks so silly I had to use it.
Time to got to the hospital soon, catch ya all later.

NCE über alles!
Good Morning All,
A regular and a blueberry donut pleaseZoe. 57F and rainy out. lots of wind a couple of hours ago and of course trees down necessitating a reroute on the way to the shop.
Jeremy - that's a good problem to have. Any way to tell which job has a better future?
Karl - my prayers for your mom. I agree the older the patient, the greater the risk but it's needed so.....
Jeff - you are in our thoughts as well. When my MIL passed there was almost a sense of relief for my wife since her quality of life had deteriorated so, but still a lot of grief and some guilt (misplaced in my opinion) for not trying to do more.
Ulrich - hope you are hanging in there as well. We went through this with my aunt and MIL and are now entering this phase with my mom. It's not easy getting people to see they need more care than they can provide themselves. we are blessed that my sister is near to mom and willing to shoulder so much of the load.
Looked at the layout last night and started running some of the actuating rods in shrink tube for the yard turnouts. Looks like it might actually work ok. I still have to bed the sheathed rods in the foam but I think I'll use more latex caulk for that. I'm trying to get them flush with the surface and the surface smooth even though most will be ballasted or covered over with ground foam as you never know when you'll need to put a structure up over them.
So much for now, I'll stop in later if I get a chance. CUL, J.R.
OOH I got top! Well the cards are maxed out from the trips down under but it's ok. Just put it on my tab and get the dirty dishes ready ladies.
Good morning. It's 31°F with 100% humidity. It'll be sunny with a high of 62°F.Much better weather today and no wind warnings. I'll be making a trip to the bank today after it warms up a bit. This weekend I'll be looking around on Ebay for some items. See if I can find some cheap locos and cars to strip for parts and find a couple of good items as well.Other plans for this weekend: Since the family is all here we'll be having a family barbeque before they head back up north. Among those are my younger sister and her husband (#3), my other niece and her son. He's five years old and this is the first time I've seen him. A train nut if ever there was one! I showed him my run-by videos and a photo slideshow from one of my Photobucket accounts. That kept him out of trouble for the better part of an hour. He may get an opportunity to see the layout in person but he'll have to remember, hands off.

It's the 31/01/13 here... 10.52PM... Where are we off to, for February?

Galaxy ..... Ideas? .... I would not object to Maui in February along with rides on the Sugar Cane Train.
Karl ..... I hope all goes well with the surgery. ..... Thanks for explaining your cute avatar.
Ulrich ..... Have you had time to work on your little locomotive? ... I Hope you are doing okay now.
JR ... Glad you have some time for the layout. Looks like you have plenty of projects for it.
Ken .... Companies all over the country are implementing new work rules such as you described because of the new national health care law that most people don't want. Any work performed by full-time time employees will be so much more expensive than with part-time employees. That is not at all the fault of corporate management. For any person "helped" with the new law, there must be at least 50 people hurt by it.
My layout is on hold this morning for some non-model-railroad stuff. I'm taking Shelley's car to Murray (across the lakes) for some work. The car again has electronic problems. Mechanically, the car is in good condition, but the electronic stuff is expensive and trouble some. For any dollar I save on fuel efficiency (the reason for much of the electronics), I spend maybe $10.00 for fixing the electronics. Also, it takes my valuable time. This is because of other stupid laws.
Cheers, everybody!

Good Afternoon!
Flo, coffee and a slice of that walnut pie, please.
No improvement to report. My dad has developed a fever, which worries me a lot. I am still tied up with trying to help my parents, although I am at home. I have re-routed all those nasty administrative matters to my place, so I can do them from here. My mom is being taken care of by neighbor, which is a big relief for the moment, though a few decisions as towards my parents future still have to be made. I´ll be going to see them beginning of next week for a couple of days.
No MRRing, my mind is not set on it.
Have a good one!
I found this little video on narrow gauge railroading in Germany in 1952. It reminds me very much of my childhood days. I could have been one of the lads shown there.

Well
I went to Physical Therapy. We only did 2 exercises and some massaging as I reported that days like yesterday, where I do errands, after just 2 hours, I was wiped out completely form the exercises the day before. they think we are doing too much. Also, in addition to the arthritis, my left knee doesn't track correctly...
Went to the CU and found out why they lost power yesterday...a delivery truck went under the power lines, caught the wires, and ripped them down where they lit the pavement on fire!!! So I got the banking done today.
Not much else to report....
ULRICH- My father has yet to get rid of my mothers stuff {she passed several years ago}. He is still attached to it. While I wouldn't like to restrict his "love life' I think this will keep him from getting remarried, which I think I prefer.....
I lost everything in a house fire once, and vowed I'd never again have boatloads of Schtuff...yet here I am with a trailer FULL of schtuff {NOT at All like the Hoarders though!!}. I admit, I have a hard time giving up my schtuff, especially my TRAINS, so I can't expect others to part with schtuff either!
Alas, alack and blimey....
Time for a nap.
Nice Ulrich!
Funny seeing the Dog chasing the train,,,a little frantic huh! Did you notice at about 6:15 the train had doubled in length and picked up a pusher diseasel??
Anyhow, were back til later today, the postponed the surgery til later, Mom's blood levels were not right, so they are giving her plasma, the will re-evaluate her after lunch. They told my sister, who lives 10 minutes away, so she went home. Amazingly, she then called me, just as I was walking in to the hospital. Its an hour drive for me. So I went in anyway hoping to visit with Mom, but she was out of it. Must have some good pain meds!
So, to be continued.............
Extra strong coffee in a UNDECORATED mug, please.
***Karl, hope your mom improves quickly and all goes well.
***Galaxy, funny thing how "stuff" accumulates, even when we're determined to keep things simplified. I like my trains, too. Going to part with most of my (N) stuff, but all those proceeds will go right back into the transition to (HO).
Getting a late start here today. Sounds like one town along the hwy I usually take into town was demolished from yesterdays tornado. Even the nice brick house was strewn across the hwy, as were other houses, barns, etc.. Many people and animals were in the path. I'll head in the other direction and avoid adding traffic to such a disaster area.
Have a good day all.
Cheers! Rob
Mornin'
Zoe, a bowl of hot oatmeal with brown sugar and lots of dark roast coffee in my R&GV RR mug please!
Ulrich, won wunderbare! Warum sollte ich wollen, um den Ton auszuschalten. Ich könnte tatsächlich ein Wort dann und verstehen .... Besides, I can always mute my hearing aids! Every once in a while I heard a word I recognized.... I love the people getting on and off the train while it was moving!!! Yikes!
Windy here in the Finger Lakes this morning. 30°F and very windy. Sun is peeking through every once and a while though.
Today I have to take Blackie to the vet to get checked out and find out what is going on with him. I am praying it will be something correctable! He is not quite 12 years old and I don't want to lose him yet... Then this evening I have to be at Troop 1 for a committee meeting.
Got the steel framing for the water tower painted last night and built a pipe for all the inlet and output stuff water towers need, painted it, and glued it in place on the bottom of the tower. just need to glue the water tower in place on the frame, add a ladder that I don't have, weather the whole assembly and glue it in place on the power plant near the quarry on the layout.
Hope all of you are safe and having a good day!

We'll get there sooner or later!
Good Morning, Zoe - I'll have a cinnamon roll and a Santa Fe mug of coffee, please 'n' thanks!
Looks (so far) in the posts like about all the Diners on this side of 'the pond' made it through the weather hiccup safely.
Rob, those Paints of yours apparently are pretty strong! Look forward to hearing how well you like the new loco.
Galaxy, good to hear that YOH will have some supplemental income from unemployment to help on your expenses. About your (bank?/CU?) chasing everyone out when the power went, doesn't surprise me. They need power for their computers, and security cameras, and whatever else...
JR, thanks for putting those steamer photos up on the wall in here - great! But I'm sure getting back home and sleeping in your own/usual bed feels good.
Ray, best wishes and for an easy 'fix' to Blackie's ailment(s). Doesn't sound like he's up to his usual self, though.
Jeremy, that sounds like a good kind of choice to be 'stuck' with. Once you figure which job you will go with, do write a "Thank-you, but..." letter to the place where you don't go. Can't hurt, and very possibly may help you in the long run.
Jeffrey, I don't consider your posts to ever be wasting my time. Take care of yourself and know that we're here for you.
Garry, you were right about it cooling down. Yesterday morning (day after the front moved through our area), the high was about sunup, 55 F, and it went downhill on the temp into the 20's (F) last night. We had some of those dark/winter sn*w-type clouds yesterday afternoon toward sunset, sustained winds of 35 mph (but I didn't see any flurries or such). We're up to freezing (34 F) now, and supposed to hit mid-forties for the day. Looked like your area might be getting some precip. today (frozen or otherwise). Best wishes on the car electronics 'tune-up'...
Karl - cute avatar! Will keep the surgery on my list.
Ulrich, nice videos - yep, I could picture you as one of those kids in the one video, all right. Continuing to keep you, Petra and your parents in my prayers.
Well (currently kinda half-full, with a thin coating of ice on the top for the frogs to sit on/in, maybe), have one coming in that I'll need to see (and then lunch might be after I get that matter resolved).
Blessings and prayers,
Jim in Cape G.
Good Morning!!!
Finished this oh……3 ½ hours ago but, got a call and never posted. Figured 30-45 minutes I’d be back from breakfast invite. Buuuuut then I remembered it was end of year report with Preacher today so….here I is and if things sound kinda strange and outa sync, you know why
Since I ate a bacon double cheeseburger and fries and a cup of coffee for breakfast at the Huddle House, I guess I’ll have a couple three eggs scrambled loose, hashbrowns a couple pieces of thick cut bacon and a Dr Pepper for lunch here please. Thank you.
Cold, windy and snow flurries. Don’t need to look at the weather report for that. I’ve been to the curb already.
G- Oh I know you have to go through the motions. I hope she gets something to tie you over, but at the same time I hope she gets a better job, or at least the same at another possibly better place.
Garry- “I went to Hawaii by rail” what….do you have a book for these?! Just kidding, I for one appreciate your humor around here. So there is a rail system there. I must have misunderstood what they said in the article. Seems to me it’d be awful small.
You know you’re a rookie when you hear someone else say calmly, ”Not a lot of sn*w, bout 8 inches…’
Karl- Prayers for your Mother this morning.
Jeffrey- You’re not wasting anyones time. You loved your Mother. I’m glad you gave the times for the service, I’ll be there in spirit as I’m sure many of us here will be..
Ken- Wait until they say the “overtime isn’t overtime if it’s just because you didn’t get done in time.” Therefore, by taking in 4 tires at 5 minutes until nine, just because you don’t get them done by normal closing time, doesn’t make it the fault of the business so not overtime. Now that won’t probably hold up, but if someones tried it once….they’ll keep trying until some judge accepts it. You know, the ones who don’t even eat a McDouble without writing it off their taxes.
Well, I did do that load of laundry yesterday, but didn’t get to play with my choo choo set. Why, well you know I really don’t know. I honestly can’t think of a reason why I didn’t/couldn’t and actually….I can’t tell you what I did instead. I did go to the Chinese buffet and got Suki again, she was busy, very busy, Everyone must have had the same idea. She apologized for being busy for some reason. Guess it made sense to her. Getting better at Cantonese I am. I understood some of what the hostess said to her. They stand right there amongst you like you can’t understand them and…well, I guess you can’t. Missed the first few words, but she ended with "he/she/it or apart…., blame or Mother…., you." Could be she’s talking about being apart from or maybe missing her Mother, or someone’s blaming her for something, she cold be saying she'll have someone help her.... or something completely different. Without knowing what she said before that…who knows. The hostess did look at me and smile so I hope I'm not getting married to her. Brenda might have an issue with that. At least at first. Chinese still sounds foreign to me. They talk too fast. Of course when people who speak English speak fast, I have trouble understanding them too.
Just got an invite to breakfast from a buddy. Who knows how the day will unfold.
Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Aaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhrrrgggghhh! Well, one trip to the vets, complete blood chemistry for the little guy, new bag of a different Rx food, and a prescription filled at the Pharmacy I use, Blackie and I are back home and I'm a $150 poorer... I have a diabetic cat! His walking problem is Neuropathy caused by diabetes... The substitute vet (older retired lady) took one look at him, checked to make sure he didn't have a colon blockage, picked him up and put him on the floor and had him walk over to me. Said it is one of two things! Diabetes is the better one BTW. We are trying him on a pill that may or may work for him. The other options is Insulin and blood testing every day, so I hope this works for him. Have to take him back in 3 weeks for another blood test. They checked his kidneys in the blood chemistry test and they are fine. So not great news, but could be far worse, I think. She suggested I have Manét check soon as well since they are litter mates. I will have to watch Man´t for any signs of the Feline Urinary tract problems... Both of them have been on a prescription diet most of their lives because of that problem. She thinks Manét should be OK on the new diet... We shall see.
Karl, prayers for your mother and the whole family!
Todd, you do have an unusual diet plan.... I think I will have breakfast for dinner tonight as I have to be at Troop Committee meeting by 6:30 and have nothing thawed for dinner, and it is after 5PM now.... French Toast with Maple Syrup sounds good!
Wind has calmed down considerably here in the last hour. Think I shall go light the wood stove and see if I can get warm.
Later!
Coffee refill, please.
***Ray, ever tried feeding your cats exclusively "Natural Balance" - (Limited Ingredient Diets) cat food? Have turned my one problem cat into a normal, healthy feline.
Seems my inquiry e-mails to that Australian company that makes the cool Garratt locos came back as undeliverable. Have no idea why that should be!?!
Rob : Doing some research on another forum, Eureka can be hard to get hold of. Their email address is ISP based and might be rejecting it if you use a web based address?
Well, do I have what may be the last top in Januarys diner?
I'm sure GMTRacing will be happy he doesn't have to keep buying after his down under trips.
Evening All,
Well I started the day with my truck not starting. Jumped it and took it to the mechanic. They completely checked the electrical system along with the battery and could find nothing wrong. Does not give me a warm fuzzy.
After I got home I found out that my friend (we went to Prototype Rails) had had a heart attack while I was out of town and 4 stents were placed. He should go home tomorrow.
It has been a heck of a day.
Ray- Hope Blackie will be OK.
Karl- I am saying prayers for your Mother.
Ulrich- I am saying prayers for your Dad.
Hope everyone has a good night and prayers for those in need.

Been there , done that, Midnight is also diabetic! His back legs sometime give him trouble too, till the food dishes are rattled. He gets fed at 5:30 am and pm, and gets 4 units of insulin at each feeding. The bottle costs us about 110.00, but lasts about 5 months. Of course, we also spend a small fortune on syringes. Its kinda silly what the cat food companies have done here. Cats are predators, and what do we feed them? Basically meat flavored cereal. So they get mostly canned food now, with only certain dry foods, more as treats. Yeah, it's a pain in the but, but he's worth it.
Mom made it though surgery, and is now in the ICU. I'll go see her tomorrow, she'll probably sleep til midday tomorrow anyhow! Thanks for all the concern gang!!
Opps. SWMBO says steak is ready, I'm outta here!!
Evening Folks
Flo, Beer Pleases and a seat belt in cases if the dinner starts to move.
Cold has heck today and we had a little ice's on the road.
Got a little done. Fixed the racket from one of my MRC F7 A's.
Vince's I got a box to but the SD40-2 in and some rolling stock. I will ship Monday or Tuesday and will send you a PM in what I am shipping.
See after the dinner is done rocking!

Good Evening, Chloe; uh, no thanks - I think I'll pass about Ray's dinner plan of French toast... Instead, I'll have the roast beef special please, with steamed broccoli, baked potato, (lite) sour cream and butter, a Caesar salad with the half peach on the side. Oh yes, and a glass of Finger Lakes wine. Thank you!
Karl, good to hear your mother is recuperating from her surgery. for a strong recovery now.
TMarsh You know you’re a rookie when you hear someone else say calmly, ”Not a lot of sn*w, bout 8 inches…’
Hey, Todd, I think our NOTB (Canadian) Diners consider all of us (unless there're some Diners from Iceland just peeking in the window...) to be pikers in the category of sn*w. Shoot, I bet some of them don't even have any long-sleeve shirts!
TMarsh Garry- “I went to Hawaii by rail” what….do you have a book for these?!
Garry- “I went to Hawaii by rail” what….do you have a book for these?!
Ray, how old is Blackie? It seems like you've had him with you (& Manet) for a while, but I lost track of how long.
Rob, maybe you could print those emails for THAT Australian company, and mail them to OzJim, or JaBear; yeah, I'm sure JaBear could just hop in his boat & scoot across to Australia to track 'em down.
Right, JaBear?...
Ah, I see OzJim got a clue for you, Rob. Good to have somebody 'local' to hunt things down for you!
Didn't see much of any sn*w when I got off w**k tonight - some slushflakes, maybe. Garry might have a shot at some over his way, though. Hey Garry - got a sn*w shovel?
Time for me to chow down for dinner!
Blessings,
