Just got home from church, built the fire back up, cleaned a bit. I have a lady friend coming over. My girls had a sleep over with her daughters and she is bringing them home. My lady friend is pretty special. Her OH passed a way a number of years ago from a heart attack. She has already scored points in my book. She bought me a Kansas City Southern 2-10-2 w/DCC for Christmas ! Hmmm this could lead to something good ? I have visions of someone who may take an interest in the hobby with me ???
Gary - is the switch to big or is that man vertically challenged ? What is wrong with the sump pump ? Do you have a check valve on the discharge side ?
Galaxy - best wishes on YOH job and we will send prayers your way
Jeff - How do you get a pusher to run with the lead train ? Are both engines tied into the same throttle ?
Ulrich - will continue to pray for you
Garry - love the picture of the two engines nice ! I sent another PM
I think we need to bring up the hospital car Gary Dufrey is very sick and I think may be loosing his senses he said something about " w##k being fun today " surely he must have a fever or has gotten a bump on his noggin. Gary , Gary hello can you hear me are you okay ???

Won't that surcharge come back to the consumer? Things like that usually do.

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
Evenin' folks!
Chloe, I'll have the country fried chicken, Texas Toast, and a trip to the salad bar tonight. Glass of unsweetened Iced Tea would be nice as well.
yougottawantaGary - is the switch to big or is that man vertically challenged ? What is wrong with the sump pump ? Do you have a check valve on the discharge side ?
YGW... Think you meant me. The little man is a properly scaled HO figure, the turnout throw is a Caboose Industries so called HO scale manual throw. Sump pump... Since the sump pump has to lift the water from the sump up and out into the yard (about a 7' rise), yes, I have a check valve in line so it doesn't end up pumping some the same water again and again. It took me about 20 minutes to install the new check valve into the discharge pipe after I got home from Lowes this afternoon. Fired it up as the sump was almost full and it worked perfect. I guess the pipe wasn't frozen going out back after all. Probably the rubber coupler which was old and very hard just worked its way off the pipe. It had a small leak for years and the check valve was worn out anyway so it needed to be replaced.
Galaxy, Yep today was a good day for making electricity. Had the best yield since back in early December today. Just over 10Kws. At one point it was showing 3200 watts on the inverter. When I went to Lowes the ICE came on in the PIP. Still to cold outside for it not to run and warm warm up I guess. But on the way back home it never fired up and the MPG showed 999. Only got 68mpg on the way to Lowes....
I have gotten several other items done or at least in progress today. Blackie is sometimes walking fine and then one leg seems to go out from under him. Probably will have him seen by the vet later this week. His other problem has been taken care of as he has been in the litter box several times today.....

Evening guys,
There calling for freezing rain and snow tonight. Spent the day running some trains and cleaning my fish tank, I really wish I could get rid of these fish there a real pain in the butt. Anybody want a 29gal tank with goldfish and the stand?,lol
Tomorrow is my last day before I start another job at the end of the week ( hopefully only until I can maybe get into one of the two other places I would like ). Like I was saying I have two interviews about a job this week. The one I want my buddy was telling me the plant manager was asking him about me and would be calling me this week. So that is something to look forward to.
Well im going to go finish up with this stupid tank
Surprise!!!!
Good evening all! Close your mouth Zoe, I know it's unusual for me to be in at night but it looks like your trying to catch flies.
Dr pepper please and an order of sweet chili wings thank you. Zoe. Zoe......ZOE!! (snap snap) Doesn't take change well does she.
Rob- Don’t blame you one bit for premanufactured curves of any kind. I’ll admit I did have a bit of trouble a time or two keeping the flex track um…symmetrical? Smooth. We’ll say keeping the curve smooth. Not real hard, just have to mind it a bit while you tack it down in the caulk or whatever you using to hold it. I used it, flextrack that is, because in the long run it was cheaper and I didn’t have to figure what pieces and I would have had to cut lengths anyway, plus, faster 3 ft at a time and fewer joints. If you solder then I suppose that last would be moot. Plus it allowed for more fudging.
Weather turned out not bad. Got some sleet right before Church, but was done by the time we left. Went to Lincoln for dinner and hit the Wallyworld there. Back home, swapped laundry from washer to dryer, new load wash, then promptly fell asleep during Bama….something. People from Alabama in South America gold hunting. Not the most exciting of shows. Good one to nap through though.
Which leads me to now and it’s time for me to clean some track before I head up town to watch cartoons. I have one of those eraser looking things. Can’t remember what it’s called. I have some hidden track and will have to crawl under to do that. Being so close to the floor, I hope I don’t accidentally take a nap.

All this freezing rain. You folks are just in the wrong part of the country. Here's what we have in store for tonight:
Mostly cloudy. A 20 percent chance of showers in the evening. Patchy fog after midnight. Lows in the upper 50s. Southeast winds 5 to 10 mph.
Now doesn't that just make you want to move?
EDIT: Hey, looks like I got the TOP. Take it easy guys. Remember that I'm a poor man who doesn't have two pennies to rub together.
Evenin y'all!
Hey Zoe, hows about an RBF sweetie! And a couple of Advil too!
Went to see the Grandboys yesterday, #2's Bday party. Was pleasantly surprised. I thought the cold air intake with the K&N filter might hurt mpg in the winter. Even though the outside temps were just at freezing, the Impala's trip computer was reading 28-29 mpg average the whole way! Average speed 55-65 mph! Take that Ray! Not bad for a full sized car!
The Advil though are for my back. 1st, I had to diagnose the blower fan in the wife's Olds today. Sometimes it works, sometimes not, sometimes woks but slow, and , well, whatever it wants. Oh, and I'm told about this Friday, when she gets home from work in the snow. So out comes the glovebox, then the lower dash trim, then the body computer, hmm, if I wiggle the connector it speeds up. clean connectors, reassemble, and just as I was re installing the glove box, it slowed down and quits . Pulled it all apart, rechecked connector, motor ran fine, then quit Wiggles again, it works, but this time I wasn't wiggling the wires, I was wiggling the motor where the wire plugs in. Long story short, I wound up hardwiring the motor to a set of spade connectors that plugged into the factor harness Works fine now, but 2 hours of upside down under the dash antics hurt. Its working now, but I dont like the way it sounds, kinda rough. I may just order one from NAPA tomorrow.
Then SWMBO wanted me to bring in 3 days of firewood, because it's gonna rain tomorrow. Better to suffer the pain than to cope with the verbal sparring. Oh but the woodstove needs to be cleaned 1st.
Ai caramba!

Still working on swapping out plastic wheelsets for IM ones.Got around 30 or so done. Doesn't sound like many, but I'm doing a little weathering too as long as the car is off the layout. I'm breaking in some of my newer engines at the same time,so that's kinda fun to listen to in the background.
Thanks for supper , Jeff!

I have a cat too, she doesn't try to smack at the tank at all. I thought that she would when she first saw it but never really showed a interest. Im always afraid the stand will collapse one of these days ( although it should t seeing its a stand for that aquarium ) that's one of the reasons I don't like the tank, which I guess wouldn't be a bad thing, lol aside from the 29 gal of fish water on the basement floor that would have to be wet vac out
I would take them to a fish store ( if they would even take them ) but I know what they would do with them. Id rather take the chance of the tank falling over its stand or them dying on there own here then to take them to a store to be become feeder fish to larger fish.

On another subject folks.... Ta Da finally got an engine to run all the way around the layout. An old DC beast mind you but good enough for first testing. Now to rewire all the power feeds that I'd reversed. Yuk

YGW ....... You said "She bought me a Kansas City Southern 2-10-2 w/DCC for Christmas ! Hmmm this could lead to something good ? Don't tell her you are thinking of weathering it based on my experience. About 20 to 25 years ago, Shelley bought me a very nice brass steam locomotive for my birthday. Stupid me said I was thinking of weathering it. That went over like a stone duck. That is the only brass locomotive she ever bought me. Lesson learned. ........ As long as I can't get to sleep tonight, I thought I might drop in and see what was going on here. Today was a good one railfanning the Norfolk Southern in Leetsdale, PA. 9 trains in 2 hours.A couple of intermodals, a trash train a mixed freight, and a coal train with a CEFX AC44CW in the lead. Most interesting however, was a special with 6 new locomotives on flat cars, minus trucks.
I have no idea who makes these, where they are going, or anything else about them. Other than the graphics logo, there wasn't any lettering, not even road numbers. Nice looking units though.
We wrapped up the weekend with a nice dinner of meat loaf, cream style corn and mashed potatoes. Of course a nice bottle of Riesling from one of our favorite wineries on Seneca Lake washed it all down nicely.
Usually, Monday is our shopping and errands day, but they are calling for freezing rain starting sometime soon. Nothing so far though. We will stay home if the roads are bad in the morning. Everything we need to do can wait until Tuesday. See you all later.

Hello folks, The storm has passed. We survived the entire day/night with power and internet, but I was too preoccupied watching the 50-60 knot winds blowing tree's down left right and centre. No Tornadoes although there was a waterspout in Moreton Bay (10KM east of me.) overnight that was spotted by a ship.
Now the problem is flooding for Brisbane again. Expected peak is to be 2.6m in Brisbane which is enough to flood alot of low lying areas, but 2m short than 2011 and 3m short of the 1974 flood. The 1890 flood remains the largest at something like 8.9m at the city gauge. The large dam we have now on the Brisbane river largely mitigates any flooding, by example if the dam didn't exist the 2011 flood would have been around 10m high.
Suburbs in the inner city such as Milton and Rosalie will flood because they were largely built on filled swamp land which is only a matter of 50-60cm above the high tide mark of the river.
Anyway, no doubt I will be volunteering time whilst I don't have a job to go to, to assist in the clean up and help get these folks back on their feet quickly! The sad part is alot of businesses and families have only just moved back in after the repairs because of how long it takes to go through insurance etc and rebuild, alot of the time from the ground up.
I will keep you updated.

Gidday All. Pleased to see that you've survived relatively unscathed OzJim, the Queensland storm and its associated flooding was again on e of the lead stories on the TV news, the irony being that the next story was that authorities on this side of the ditch are now considering when to officially designate some areas of the country as "Drought Zones". The fire risk around here is getting to the extreme warning levels, two of our machines have been on fire fighting duties on a couple of small fires, the weather guessers say the maybe showers next Sunday.
Currently 2245 hours, 54 F, 83% humidity, todays high was 79 F, same forecast for tomorrow.

Good Morning all,
Rain today and tomorrow, the high Wednesday will be almost 50F. This morning it’s already in the 40’s so the melting snow and falling rain will keep things soggy around here for a few days.
I have an eye doctor appt tonight right after work….
Kbkchooch, that’s really good MPG. I had to stop using my K&N filter on my truck, the engine was sucking all the filter oil into the air box.
JeremyB, I just had to replace my 55 gallon tank 2 weeks ago, the top strap broke so I didn’t want a flood. Just this past weekend they had a $1 fish sale bought tiger barbs and some Bala sharks. The fish tank is great, when you get to the impossible model project you can sit and relax and watch the fish then go back to the layout, LOL.

I enjoy watching them, Im just not a fan of the cleaning of them. I knew I should have told the previous home owner to come back and get his fish.
Well, as a Canadian Im ashamed to admit I made a snow shoveling mistake this morning lol. We got a good amount of snow last night as they called for, they also called for freezing rain after that snow. So at 5am I go out just as it started to freezing rain and cleared the driveway. Three hours later instead of freezing rain on the snow which wouldnt have been so bad I now have freezing rain on a bare driveway . You could skate from one end to the other. Lesson learned, I have to go put some slat down before the mailman goes flying
And, on that note....good morning...sorta
Wherein we are getting everything in one day here...going to a high of 36F..
And I get to work from home..seeing as how the weather is so rotten out here...
Have a good day!!
Good Morning!!!
Coffee and the three piece fried chicken plate with mashed potatoes and green beans please, thanks.
A 40 percent chance of showers. Cloudy, with a high near 60. Tomorrow it’s suppose to be almost 70 and heavy rain. Like 90% chance. I hope both are true. Well as long as there’s no flooding of course.
Hm. Didn’t know it rained in Hawaii. I guess it’d have too. Never hear of it though, even on TV. Did it ever rain on Hawaii 50? I don’t thinks so.
Good to see you made it through OK OzJim.
Welp, I got the main all cleaned up and no didn’t fall for a nap. The Little AHM That Could made it around even at a fairly slow speed. Well except for that Walthers curved turnout. The insulated point is too long and the front wheels can’t span it. At a faster clip it zips right over of course, but at a slower pace it’s like a wall. Unfortunately the “slower pace” is about the speed the layout should be. Anyway, after listening to that thing grinding away and following it around listening for changes in tone or speed, or both, so I can hit that area a bit better, I noticed it was starting to sputter and spurt, so to speak. It wasn’t the track. So I checked out the wheels on the loco and cleaned them again, one was a bit dirty again, but that didn’t do too much to help. I’ll check the pickups again, but I think if I get down there today and I hope to, if it runs great for a bit then starts to sputter like last time, I think my 40ish year old engine may finally be giving it up. No electrical smell of death though. We’ll see. Could be I just need more cleaning too. Hope so. I’ll miss that grinding/buzzing sound. Maybe just not run it as long.
Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!
You gotta love the internet. I got up this morning and the answers to my questions about the engines I saw yesterday while railfanning were posted on another forum. They are General Electric CM20EMP bound for Indonesia.

Good morning. It's 65° with 97% humidity. It'll be cloudy with a high of 75°.Yesterday I got some of the clutter cleared from the layout. Today I plan to remove more. But planning to do something and actually doing it are two different things. Other things tend to get in the way. Other things around here equals family. They're busy getting my mothers things sorted out for whatever fate awaits them. One thing for certain is that the ministry's for the needy around town are going to be getting tons of clothing. What they intend to do with the antiques and other stuff I have no idea. I've already told them that any electronics will pass by me before they go out the door. Well what's good electronic items and bad electronic items all look the same to them. Checking them out and testing them for condition, use and functionality is one of my areas of expertise. So naturally I get called down there to check some things out every couple of days it seems. There wasn't a call yesterday or the day before so today will probably be the day.
