Good Morning all,
This year is not working out too well for me:
New Year’s Day I took a misstep and punched my elbow through my side door window.
Sitting at the computer typing an email message by glasses broke.
My 55-gallon fish tank broke
My furnace broke.
Katje picked up a bacterial infection from a rawhide toy.
Someone hijacked my email account and I’ve been banned from sending messages to the AOL and Yahoo servers.
And to top it off I haven’t been able to get to the diner on a regular basis…..

Hi Guys
Just about getting ready to leave for that new job at 9am. I don't know what time I will be back on later today but wish me luck guys
I'd say Good morning, but because i was up all night working/ browsing the forums on my downtime, its almost pointless... but oh well.
GOOD MORNING!
im going to sleep now....

Rob, I’m not impressed with the re-tooled Mantua locomotives, I bought an 0-6-0 and it seems to be the 1970’s locomotive that has DCC.
Jeff, I’m so sorry to hear about your Mom. Our only saving grace when clearing out my grandmother’s place is that we had moved her into a 2 bedroom apartment before she had to move into a nursing home.
Ulrich, wow, not sure what to say other than I wish you the best in dealing with the issues you are faced with. Family issues are tough because you have that sense of duty and it causes you to worry about them 24/7 and you don’t get a break from worring.
Now I believe I was a little insensitive in my first posting, but I hadn’t read anything first.
I almost didn’t make it into work due to the weather, I live in the “snow belt” on a point of land NE of Cleveland known as Moss Point and typically downtown Cleveland is safe from the weather systems that cross the lake. I underestimated the winter storm; the white out was so dense I couldn’t tell if my headlights were on. I couldn’t stop driving since there wasn’t any place to pull off and the guy behind me would have rear ended me so I continued forward through the snow at a slow bell hoping not to hit anything. I didn’t know if I was on the road or not but when I started losing RPM’s due to the right wheels dragging in the snow I knew to steer left. The exit I normally take off I-90 is the same exit as the snow plow garage and salt dome and it was impassable with over 14” of snow. The real feel outside is -10F 6-10” expected this afternoon and an additional 1-5 expected this evening. Storm total should be 24” to 30” by Thursday morning. I drive an F-250 4x4, I have 600 pounds of sand bags in the back and I was really worried this morning….
Good Morning
Kinda cool out here...only -1F with a windchill of -14F....nowhere near CNCharlies cccold temperatures....hence we is just cool....
Supposed to get to 4F later on..with windchill of -8F....
I'm going to be doing some work from home today. Just as well, considering the cool temperature here.....
Oh well...have a good day peeps!!!

Good morning. It's 37° with 85% humidity. There will be clouds and a high of 62°.Got up this morning feeling out of sorts. I'm having trouble concentrating on anything as my mind keeps jumping from one thing to another. I can't think about any one thing I want to do today. No plans for anything layout related except to put away a few locos I got down to take photos of.

Good Morning,
Another chilly day here. It is -30C with a -41 windchill again this morning so I'm waiting to drive my wife to work again today. When I go outside with the dog I wear an old down filled parka that I've had for over 30 years. It was made right here in Winterpeg at a time when there was a significant garment industry that knew how to make a parka for this climate. I can stand outside in -40 wearing that coat and I can't feel any cold at all.
Worked on the N scale layout's scenery a little last night but that is about it for RR stuff. I need to break-in the replacement 2-6-6-2 that I recieved from BMan this week. It runs great and looks really fine. Not sure what a C&O loco would be doing in New Brunswick but hey its my RR so I can take liberties.
Well time to get moving. I will have to warm up the car a little.
CN Charlie
Good Morning!!!
Coffee and an order of Nachos please. Thanks.
Like Ken, I’m not gonna complain about the temp. Yet…..but it is cold.
Jeff- So sorry about your Mom. You and your whole family are in my prayers. I do know what you’re going through. Went through it with my Mom. The grief, and the sense of relief that somehow makes you feel selfish, guilty and just wrong for feeling that way. But a bit of reasoning and thought and some time and you realize it’s not any of those at all. I also know what it’s like to go through literally tons of belongings. Oh boy do I. Not only did we donate heavily, and I do mean heavily just as you will, to the local Goodwill, but we also found a place in Springfield that gives items donated to the needy.
Not suggesting Springfield, I know it’s a bit far to drive. (chuckle)
This place gives not to just anyone who wants to save a buck like Goodwill. Now Goodwill is great on several levels, but let’s face it. Many folks who are pretty well off buy things there and I am in no way knocking that. No, not at all. I know several and I myself have gone there for many reasons. But like I said, this place gives items like furniture, knick knacks, kitchenware, toys, coats, clothes, books, you name it. Just about anything you give em, though they prefer things for the house a family would need for necessity, comfort, and yes for appearance too. Everyone likes to have pretty’s in their home. After all, what am I gonna do with it right? Might as well bring a smile to someone less fortunates face with it. They have to seek this place out and pretty much prove they are in need. Not some 400 page form either, I guess it's pretty simple. Then they have these garages that they just “shop” through. Guy told me once, (our Church also donates to them) you’d be surprised at how un-greedy most folks are. Taking only what they need or can actually use and leaving things, even great things, for others who may actually need them. And these items are all for free. THAT to me is what I’m talkin about.
Ok! Now that I’ve actually heard a known to be real person comment on the Dr Scholls foot machine thing, I shall try a pair of their inserts. We’ll see
Ulrich- My prayers go out for your Father as well.
Garry- That is absolutely WONDERFUL news about your doctors visit.
Didn’t stop in yesterday because Brenda decided that I should start on the flooring in her little whatchacallit room. Used to be missy’s room. Got the thing up to the closet done and I said “POOEY!! I’m done for the day”. Getting up and down, up and down. Forgot how rough that can be when you haven’t done it in a while. Anyway, into the closet and this little part to the door to the hall, replace the trim and I’ll be done. Shouldn’t be but a couple hours worth of w**k, baring of course a visit from Mr Murphy WHO, by the way, is due for a visit. But, it sounds like he’s been pretty busy up Lee’s way so I may be good for a day or two. Grocery put away this morn for restaurant, let dogs out around noon, then home for floor, cleanup and because I gave my shift tonight to a kid who had to buy a couple tires so for to help him pay for said tires, I have the night off. You know, if I gave up hours, I lost money. He w**ks those hours, he gets the money. The same money I lost…..So basically, I’m paying for his tires. Wow. Didn’t think of it that way. No wonder I’ll never be rich.
Still contemplating a post with no corrections.
Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!
EDIT: Order up!

While nothing like some of you to the West and North of me are experiencing, we here in the Finger Lakes, are getting a good taste of Winter at its finest for the next few days as well. Currently 11°F with a 20 mph wind and a wind chill of -8°F outside. I forgot to set the trash out last night before bed so I was up bright and early for me to get breakfast and get it curbside. I hope to get a photo of what I saw crossing the driveway in the light covering of snow we got last evening....
We have had a couple good gusts of wind that have actually cleared the white stuff off the panels on the roof and the sun is currently shining. May get a few Kws again today if it keeps up. To the North of here all along the Great Lakes shores and for miles inland in places there is a Lake Effect Warning in place for several feet of the light fluffy white stuff today and tomorrow. We are not supposed to get much of anything here except for about the time I head out to Canandaigua to feed my sister's cat.
Jeffrey, do have yourself some rest... It is important to keep a balance in your life right now as well, so putter around with whatever can keep your mind away from the present so to speak.
Ulrich, keeping you and yours in my constant thoughts and prayers!
Todd, you may be, in effect, paying for the kids tires, but you got something far more important... Time off to do something else, and a satisfaction that you are helping someone to help themselves!
Garry! Yep, we all want you to hang around here for a long time!
Got to get moving, as I have many, many items to get done today.
Stay safe! Later!

setting up and running everything for my "Burlington Northerns Story" video took almost all day, I wish I had a bigger layout. This summer that will hopefully become a reality.

OK, ready for morning. Please make it extra strong. Thanks!
***CN Charlie, enjoy breaking in the new 2-6-6-2. Sounds like some enjoyable MRR running time ahead.
***Lee, perhaps get the glasses fixed next, so you can avoid more breakage? Kidding aside, sounds like a rough start. The good news is, at this point, things will likely start improving for you. As for your last post, that snow storm sounded downright dangerous. Oh, and thanks for the heads up on the Mantua 0-6-0. Considering the increased price for these new ones, they really should be much nicer locos!?!
Cheers! Rob

Garry, good news on the old ticker!!
I got to play Mr High tech yesterday Stopped by a buddies house to see his layout (On30) Sunday. He was using some old smartphones as throttles, and he showed me how it works, Yesterday I was able to duplicate his efforts and I was running trains on the modules using an app called "Train Driver" in conjunction with JMRI and the wireless hub in the house. Once I get my layout complete, I'll be able to use plug in throttles, radio throttles and phones and PDA's to run trains! Too Cool!
Speaking of too cool, it's way too cool outside, as it was 15F last night, and going down to 10F tonight! Too brrrr for me! At least we don't have any of that white stuff!
Well, time for chores, see y'all later!

Good Evening!
It has been snowing all day long in my neck of the woods. I hope the snow plow will cleared the roads by tomorrow morning, as I will dare to drive to my parent´s place to see what I can do. Still no improvement on my father´s side and my Mom is also showing signs of resignation. I wish there were an easy way of just transplanting them to a place nearby, with all the help they need, just for them to enjoy life instead of being caught in daily chores they cannot cope with anymore. I have little hopes, though.
I have given up on helping to make my sister´s life a little more comfortable. She does not want to and I have to leave it up to her legal custodian to settle things in her interest. I am sad, but there is nothing I can do.
Most likely, I won´t be able to come her for the next few days. Thoughts and prayers to all in need!
Test ran my Proto 2000 SW9/1200 this morning and found that the front wheels weren't turning. A quick tear down revealed that tend of the drive shaft was stripped so the flywheel was just spinning on the shaft. Well I have no use for the switcher anyway so now I have some parts for another project.
debating on what I want to do with the remaining stuff that I have that isn't/hasn't been listed on EBay, my LHS'll take it. the locos won't sit there long.

Well there you go Jeffrey, you said you were all out of parts son now you have some spares parts to build another of your famous frakenengines
As for my day, I finally after much fiddling around got that darn suspended ceiling installed, including the heat vents and lenses in the light fixtures. Even that was a struggle for some reason Anyway, it's time to clear out all the debris and get back to w**king on the actual railroad.... right after I do some wall painting in the kitchen for MOH.
Weather is a little on the brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr side but not that bad. No where near as bad as CN Charlie is putting up with. Besides it just means that inside stuff gets done.
Prayers to all in need.

Modeling the HO scale something or other RR in the shadow of the Canadian Rockies Alberta, Canada
Zero to hero inb 24 hours. Yesterday I scheduled a window repair on some customer service . The workl required brick removal and replacement. The weather today with wind chill was to zero degrees. They suggested rescheduling. I instructed them to tent the area and I would provide propane heat. Needless to say that went over like a lead ballon and they called my office complainingh. I stuck by my guns. We finished all of the service work today by 1pm and now the office is saying and the "legend" continue to out perform.... zero to hero in one day. Of course tomorrow I will be back in the gutter for something or another. My daughter is has a temp. Grandma is keeping her tomorrow. Thank you God for grandma's.
Ken - I was reading an article in MR about snow plows and if I remember correctly it stated that a snow plow can go through six feet of snow at thirty plus miles an hour !!! I was amazed by that.
Lee - Geez buddy that was a bad day. My prayers go out to you.
Jeremy - How did the new job go ?
Jeff - Way to go. Doing something positive always help when life throws you a curve ball. Keeping you in prayer
Karl - LOL. I remember that segment
Uhlrich - Said some prayers and will keep them going up on you and your family.
Garry - Hurray for the good news !! Here are some praises ;
I have great friends who have prayed for us when we lost our wife/mother, Great in laws who are still a part of our life- they are such a blessing especially to the girls, Awesome hobby with great people in it, Steady job with decent pay, Awesome church family, Praise for over 50 people who stepped up and helped us with food, taking care of my wife so I could work days, medicine that gave us an extra year with MOH, a heaven where there is no more cancer, pain, tears, that this place is not my home and as my wife said "this is not good by" but "I will see you later and I will be there to greet you when you come home" , ladies at church who have said to me I will take your girls for a saturday and teach them to make cookies , get there hair done, we will do our nails etc.. (boy what a blessing this was ) , Men who while my wife was in bad shape and I was tied up taking care of her came over and performed yard work and home maintence, mowed, trimmed tree's, fixed stuf. Many people sent money and I am thankful for those who just sat beside me and wept with me and said nothing. I could fill up pages with praises for all of those who stepped up during this difficult time.
Good evening ...
Karl, Barry, Ray, Todd, Rob, YGW, and anyone I missed ...... Thanks for commenting on my good news. It was about 4 1/2 years ago when my heart stopped beating and was re-started 6 times. I would not be here without modern medicine as well as the emergency helicopter ride to Nashville, TN from here in western KY. . ... I am more thankful than words can say.
Regarding 2-6-6-2's, I have a recent Mantua model with tender, and it is a very nice model. Runs very well. I have it because Burlington operated similar locomotives on its Deadwood Branch in the Black Hills of SD. When I get around to building my new layout section it will represent the Burlington's western lines, and I think I can fit this in.
CN Charlie...... Model Railroader's license will permit use of the C&O 2-6-6-2 in New Brunswick. Were you looking while I operated a Pennsy 4-4-4-4 in Nebraska?
YGW ... Thanks for sharing your experience. .... I am certain there is Heaven. I had the near death experiences when my heart stopped.
Cheers!

just waiting for my various things to arrive, I won a CB&Q dome car on Ebay for my SIlver streak zephyr. I don't think I will every own a to prototype train, oh well it will look great either way when I build my 4'x8' with engine/car facility n a 2'x4' board.
I'm not going to lie I really enjoy that CB&Q silver streak zephyr.
Evening Folks
Flo, Beer pleases.
Gary, sorry I have been slow on saying up on the heart test. With Jeffery's mom passing I have not said a lot of late. Far as your near death event, if you saw a light at the end of a tunnel I have a question? Did it have Mar's Light or Ditch Lights?
Jeffery, if you feel like talking about trains two questions.
1 Does the dead Proto motor happen to look like a Athearn?
2 I have a Proto 1000 F3 A unit that I cannot keep the wheels clean it seems. I clean the wheels with 70% alcohol and after a few lap's the LED starts flickering and it stumbles on certain sections of track. But, the B unit and my other PK 1000 F units have no problems on the same sections. Both trucks are picking up power, any ideas?
Time to see if Abby and Ziva is on!

Thanks for asking yougottawantta.
I went in yesterday and they tell me my part time hours will be 20 a week, lol I cant live on that, but there was some good news. While I was there a local factory left a message at home asking about a interview. I will call them today before I go to work and see if I can setup a interview. Funny thing, the place Im currently at wont tell me what days I work until the end of that current day,lol What a operation. Yesterday they would give me a task that they think would take hours and I would get it done in minutes. I spent half the day asking what do you want me to do now?,lol I look forward to 8 more hours of that today
Well Im going to get going, I work 9-5. I will walk in the -20c cold. But again its only a 5 minute walk, lol. I dont want to have to take a thick winter coat with me so hopefully my thick sweater to do for the quick jaunt there and back. I dont really feel the cold like alot of people so Im lucky that way. I feel the heat alot more in the summer then most people though
Talk to you fellas later
Jeremy
