Good Morning all,

Stinky smoke?  Why not buy popcorn scented smoke fluid?  My LHS sells it in Candy cane, popcorn, and about 20 other scents.  Whatever you do take my advice and don’t buy the beer scent, it smells like a hot garbage can after a Browns home game.

I’ve had a little trouble getting the time to log into the diner recently as friends have been having troubles with this or that at their houses I’ve been trying to help out and here at work things have been crazy.  In the last 2 months I’ve processed and have been monitoring almost 400 bridge projects.

Good Morning!!!

Plate of Sweet BBQ pork ribs with potato salad and macaroni salad please. Thanks. Oh and a Dr Pepper. Thank you.

Sunny, with a high near 46.

Rob-I agree with the smoke units stink crowd. Never been around a HO version, but I know the O scale puts out enough smoke that after awhile you could smell it throughout the whole community center during Santa’s visit. With no windows in the cave, even with the scale difference I would think a smaller room would be a smelly adventure. Now I could be wrong, and maybe to run smoke for shorter times would be ok. Oh, I see you have an answer. Hm. Guess I was “on the right track” after all.

Jeffrey- Well of all the luck. Didn’t you just get finished here not too long ago fixing the outside power lines?

Curt- I tell you what, your layout looked good before, but I’d say the adding of hills and bumps really adds something. I can imagine with the cardboard and am anxious to see once done.

Well, day before yesterday I did it. Bought the flooring for the last room to be refloored by me. The sale was about to end and Brenda finally decided on the flooring. Acting of course, like I should have known all along. She has to clean out this room first. It too is full. So, have now filled the living room….again, with crap and it just drives me nutso with all this clutter just laying around. Like I said, I’m not anal about this stuff, but really. Maybe I’ll do that load of laundry I was gonna do yesterday and poke around a bit in the trainroom. Before w**k tonight barring any phone calls.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Jeffrey- Well of all the luck. Didn’t you just get finished here not too long ago fixing the outside power lines?

Yep. I'd just had a new service pole put in. Fortunately that wasn't effected this time. This involved a tree hitting the power lines themselves with enough force to yank to yank the ground cable out of it's lug in the meter box. Naturally that brought it near one of two hot cables. Ever seen an arc welder in action?

Good morning, Diners.  I have not been in for a while, so I plan to pick up the tab this morning.  Coffee and cinnamon rolls for everyone, Chloe.

I am working on a Blair Line laser kit that has been the smoothest kit I have ever done.  Fun!

Today I plan to hit the hobby store in Portland to see if I can get some wood shingles for my car shop.  Once I have them, I can put that project to bed.  My next project will be a wood tunnel portal that butts up against a avalanche shed.  That will be a noodle scratcher.Bang Head

Hope you are all doing well,

Sue

Good morning. It's 35° with 100% humidity and patchy frost. It'll be sunny with a high of 58°.

Well in a little while I'll be on my way to the docs for my prostate exam. The sooner that's over the better. The electrician is supposed to show up sometime today to fix my meter box so I can get my power reconnected, again. Hopefully I won't need a new meter box.

See ya later.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a couple of those fresh baked Cinnamon Rolls Sue brought in and a cup of dark roast coffee in my R&GV RR mug.  Thank you Sue!

Got up about an hour earlier than usual this morning.  Since I have to be up before 6AM tomorrow to get to the meet I figured getting up early today might help get me to bed a bit earlier tonight....

Currently 13°F here in the Finger Lakes with something called the Sun shining.  Might be enough power to start up the solar panels and clear them of the 2 inches of light and fluffy that fell overnight...  But later the sun is supposed to go back into hiding for the rest of the day.  High is predicted to be 25°F later this afternoon.

I will have to head out to Canandaigua a bit early today as I have to be back home and be at my son's house to watch granddaughter #2 and meet the bus for Granddaughter #1 by 2PM.  Their Mom may not get home until around 5PM.  Then i have to do the final packing for the meet and get the Prius loaded before bed.  No time for model railing again today.

Hope all of you have a safe and enjoyable day!

Good morning.

Cinnamon rolls? .... Did I hear "cinnamon rolls". ...... If I take a second one, am I "rolling over"? Whistling ..... Yum!

Thanks Sue. BTW, how's Larry? ..... When do we see recent layout pictures?

I just posted some loaded freight cars in WPF. I explained how in WPF, but here they are here. Scrap metal and utility poles. .... These are definitely LOW BUDGET loads. The cars are low budget also. The B&O and WM gons were only a dollar each at a train show. The GN flat car (partly hidden by corner of building) coupled to the MILW flat car is a rebuilt Tyco car that was a junker.

Extra strong coffee in a  SANTA FE  mug, please.

***Garry, very nice cars and scenes there. Well done!Yes

My Little Beast (tractor) was returned this morning after having some fixin' work done on it. Even for less than a week I missed having it around here.

Going to get out the tape measure and compare the Cave to the current Train Room to see if there is enough to warrant the change in locations. Regardless, the (N) layout is coming down and the (HO) is going to be altered (at the very least).

Still wondering about the Bachmann (HO) 3-truck Climax loco and if those models have issues or are reliable runners? Sure would look good hauling logs on my future layout.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

Good Morning All,

A regular coffee and are any of Sues' rolls left?

17C here and the sun is not quite up. The races start today so it's another early day. For those who are curious (Todd), Pukekohe is pronounced pukka - co - e. There are lots of local towns here with those first 4 letters in them so I imagine it means something in whatever local language gave the names.

Hope everyone is doing well or at least better  Hope the various proceedures and therapies go well.

As a general observation, we are treading close to the edge of our rules in some of our postings. I am well aware of the strife and turmoil out in the real world and this is why I come here for a seat in the diner to escape all that.

  •     Dennis let me just say that I pray you don't ever have to bury so many so young, mourn the loss of friends or witness the seemingly never ending funerals we had in Newtown. That is where my shop is and where our hearts were broken.. It is time for an adult convrtsation about many things but I don't approve of your comments.   Time to head off to the track, CUL, J.R.

Ah ha: Train room = 18' x 17.5'  The Cave (usable space) = 19' x 17'. Nothing much to be gained from such a move, so will keep current train room as is, except for tearing out the N scale shelf layout and adding more HO layout.

Have also decided to lose the 3' x 4' unfinished creek/canyon on the HO layout, which will give me 2 access points for connecting up to the future addition. Will raise the layout to a more standard height (hopefully without cracking things or warping trackage). Also can build a platform (with storage drawers) to raise the couch up for "lazy running trains viewing purposes." And "perhaps" I'll break through the wall from the Dungeon (workshop) into the Train Room where I could then install a door for a more direct root from house proper into train room. This last idea is just a thought for consideration much later down the line.Whistling

When I get far enough along, I will most definitely be asking for suggestions of ways to expand the existing layout, to take advantage of additional room space.Confused

Now, where's my reciprocating saw and sledge hammer.Mischief

Cheers! -Rob

Sounds like a great plan Rick.

Should have lots of options there without tearing everything out.

Good afternoon. Well I got the prostate exam done so that's out of the way for another year.

Got home to find the electrician had been there. The old boxes all had to be replaced because they were rusted out. $490.00. There goes any money I could have used for the hobby. Getting anything new for it just went from a couple of months to a year or more. Boy, old Murphy must be howling!

Now to the fun of getting a reconnect done. I called the power company to have someone come out to reconnect the power and I'm told I have to have a reconnect permit from 911. WHAT!! That;s a new one on me! The electrician found that to be strange too. So I call 911's permit line to get the number and I have to jump through a crap load of hoops just to get a darn five digit number. Called the power company back and had to jump through all those hoops again! What a bunch of bureaucratic crap. Well hopefully it'll be reconnected today.

Well, Jeffrey,, welcome to my world...MOH got fired last week, and this week SS sent me a letter that a misREcalculation means my next check will be $10.00 and the check after that {a month and a half now away} will be the regular amount!

What are we supposed to live on?

If it wasn't for bad luck, we'd have no luck at all!

Evening All,

Had Chinese for supper tonight. I plastered the cardboard framework today on the layout. Back is a little stiff but not bad.  Tomorrow we are doing OPS at the club.

Galaxy & Jeff- Sorry to hear about your financial issues. It is the one thing that worries me about retiring.

Garry- Excellent modeling in WPF as usual.

Hope everyone has a good night and prayers for those in need.

Evening all!  Just stopping in for a few minutes before tossing the kids in the tub for a bath!  Today was a crazy day at w**k, we were steady up til about 4pm this evening when i got finally told to go home, which was an hour early, but I didn't care at that point.  Tomorrow is also w**k for me, and Saturdays are normally uberly busy, so that'll be good.  I think I'm going to get some MRR stuff done on Sunday (maybe....juuuuuuuust maybe).  If I don't, well, it'll be at the next available chance I have.  Welp, its bath time for at least the girls, if not all three of 'em!

Methinks I'll be back later, after they're scrubbed down, but who knows!

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer Pleases!

Well the trains are running great so far tonight! Guess Mr Murphy is busy at Jeffery's today! Big Smile

Ah Jeffery, I guess they did not check your Prostate with a blood test like mine was done? Whistling Murphy must real have it out for you! Laugh

Never Under Estimate The Ability Of The General Public To Be Stupid! Laugh OK, I had a family come in today driving a Prius and they had a tire falling apart. They asked how long to replace the tire and I told them about a hour. Grandma did not want to wait that long but the grand daughter told her they did not have a choices! I was then asked if they had time to go eat lunch, I said yes!

So I wrote up the work-order, got the keys and took it too the tire tech's to be pulled in. 5 minutes later Jordon came in and asked where the Prius was? I started to point and say it is right there, but it was missing? ConfusedConfused It seems the owners took the car to go get lunch? Whistling Hard to install a tire on what they uses for a key!  Called them on there cell phone and told them we need the car, there answer was (Oh)! Bang Head

Guess there is a reason they have a Smart Car, it is because They Are Dumb As A Box Of Rocks! The owner, she works at Bank Of Stupid! Whistling Good fit if you ask me! Whistling

I open Saturday so I have to be up at 5:30 AM. Indifferent So I will see you all in the afternoon.

Evenin' Folks!

Janie just a cup of decaf for me please...

Hope I have everything ready to take to the Meet tomorrow.  I decided not enter anything in the contests we have.  I have nothing new that I am doing at the point where it could be displayed, and I didn't feel like bringing the Lake Shores Limited passenger set.  So I will sit this one out.

Should be fun day, three clinics in the morning, and 4 layouts to visit in the afternoon, not to mention a really great LHS will be opening up for us to buy some things he stocks that you can't generally find anywhere else.

Ken, Ken, Ken.....  I think you misunderstood the lady with the Prius.  She wanted to know if they had enough time to get lunch before you changed the tire!  LOL  Whistling  Interesting when the car is smarter than the owner though.Smile, Wink & Grin  Personally I am still trying to find where they hid the clutch!

Time to head out to bed as I need to be up before 6AM to drive to the meet and be there to get set up.

Prayers for all in need!

Well I'm back in my own home now. I checked everything out and it's all working. My cable internet wasn't working initially but I learned that was due to a problem up the line. Man, I tell you one thing. It was chilly in here. I set the heater on high and let it rock and roll. It's good to be back on my computer. It's not the fastest but compared to the one I was using at my fathers place it's lightning fast. That other one has dual Celeron D processors on a bargain basement no-name board, This one has dual Pentium E5300's on a good grade MSI board. This one hands down is the better of the two by a long way.

Well it's time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Ah, the venerable exam.Keeping it delicate as can be,  I once had a young neighbor who had no father, and the young man complained to me about  his trip to the Doctor to get working papers. His complaint, You ask? His complaint was about the old "look to the right and cough" and the "look to the left" to cough!" His complaint..well the Doctor was LOOKING at him. I explained The Doctor was looking for a hernia. He was sure something fiercely upset about it! Why, oh Why would a Doctor LOOK there for a hernia? I explained.

I told him to Wait til he got older and had "THE exam" for "old men's disease" {or sooner than "old man status"if problems arise early on}. He begged me to tell him what that meant. I told him about the exam. He starred at me a few minutes like I had 3 heads with purple tongues hanging out, then He drew up his courage and said "no, they don't do THAT, do they?????" I said "you will certainly find out when you get older"!!!

hey all.

Very busy day at w@@k and at home. Youngets daughter getting sick, I am starting to feel a little Ick! . Big blessing though is that my MIL stayed over last night and cleaned the girls rooms (that was a dangerous job) I offered to tie a rope around her ankle before she went in so we could pull her out if she got lost in all of there stufff. Brave women ! She declined the rope but suggested some jack black maybe in order even though neither of us drink. Stopped by the LHS . So frustrated they dont even carry HO scale anymore. I sure miss the old owner.

Jeff - I feel your pain about the power and beaucratics involved. You think that is bad you should try to deal with setting up an entire site Bang Head . And power is not even the worse, Verizon is the so bad that ever who the new guy is we all pass it to him. NO ONE want to try to order site service from them. Oh and if you want to go into a racket start a water company. Now get this. When we build a site we pay a site contracter to install the water pipe in the roads (costing many tens of thousands of dollars up to and beyond a cool mill. Then we pay a plumber to install the water crock and associated plumbing and then run a "lateral" to connect to the water main and then run it into the house. Average cost 10k for the lateral per house. Now get this - the water company only installs teh water crock. Guess what that cost ? 30 k !!!. Then after the HO move in they pay for the water coming in through the pipes we installed and then they pay for it going out the waste pipe ! The water comapany gets the water for free from a local river. I am telling you the mob could not have started a better racket. Second thoughts maybe it is being run by the mob. It sure is legalized thevening.

Jeremy - on the fish . Do you or a friend have a cat ? One word solution - catfood - problem solved. Embarrassed

Garry - some time I will tell you about how SS robbed my deceased wife of all of her SS and medicare she paid in . The gov stole her money , some 70k. Angry

Ken - thanks - good to be back.

Is Ulrich still a moniter on the site ?

Gotta get some sleep TTYL

Chamomile tea, please.

Who makes the finest, best looking, best running and best sounding BigBoy loco in HO? (excluding brass)Hmm

Pulled up all the Unitrack form the (N) shelf layout today. Over half of it was never glued down, so it will be easy to sell that on the-bay. There remains plenty of track with bits of sheetrock which I will use to build a small layout for my Library. This will be made on a hollow core door and at coffee table height. Will sell about 80% of all the (N) stuff which still leaves plenty to make a layout with. Then I can run a few (N) trains when I get the itch to do so.

Up next, remove all the shelving in the train room.

Have a good night all.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

Curt..... Thanks for the comment. Looks like your scenery project is coming along fine.

Rob..... I think there were some good quality Big Boys. Not sure which is best. ,,, Were you interested in a Shay. I think JimCG has one. ..... Where is he, anyhow?

YGW .... Lots of money. .... There are too many things wrong with how government is being conducted.

Ken ... Those Pennsy PA's need a trip to the wash rack.

On the layout I worked on some miscellaneous items. I also took some more layout photos.

Cheers, everybody.

Morning coffee in the diner...

GOOD MORNING!!!

Today is Saturday, January 19th, 2013!!!

Wow...beyond the first half of the first month of 2013 ALREADY!

Are you anxious for you cofffee? Well, Hold your horses!!!

Meaning:

Hold on; be patient.

Origin:

US origin - 19th century. In keeping with its American origin, it originally was written as 'hold your hosses' and it appears in print that way many times from 1844 onwards. In Picayune (New Orleans) September 1844, we have:

"Oh, hold your hosses, Squire. There's no use gettin' riled, no how."

It's clear that hoss is the US slang term for horse, which was certainly known by 1844, as in David Humphreys' The Yankey in England, 1815:

"The boys..see a ghost in the form of a white hoss; and an Indian in every black stump."

It isn't until much later, in Chatelaine, 1939, we get the more familiar phrase:

"Hold your horses, dear."

In 1943 there's a more descriptive use, in Hunt and Pringle's Service Slang:

"Hold your horses, hold the job until further orders. (comes from the Artillery)"
