Evenin', Chloe - I'll have a hot fudge sundae, and a CAW mug of decaf, please. Thank you!
Sounds like several of you Diners are having Barry's kind of "dull, dull, dull..." day (with drizzle...). I don't know if you were behind on your rainfall for the year there (we still are about 13+ inches behind for the year here), but it may be that a few of you up the Ohio River Valley (and upstate NY/PA vicinity) are about saturated with the liquid sunshine.
Jeff, hope you can get a battery (or have yours rebuilt) for your mother's "Wheelie machine" (aka cart/wheelchair).
Lee, I hear you about the length of a day, but I thought you weren't really, really retired... (just "double-dipping", isn't that what it's called? ) That's a good tip about picking/being picked by a dog. If I get where I can have a dog again, I will remember that!
Vincent/Packer - you are one determined MRRer, when it comes to getting a loco like you want it! (Wish I could be that determined...)
Not sure what was going on at w**k today - started out pretty slow, almost nobody came in before 11 a.m. (usually, we'll get people by 9:30 or 10 a.m. at the latest), and when it was 3:30-4 p.m. (when things usually slow down for the day, unless we get a crisis), got 2 or 3 walk-in people (non-crisis). I think I'm gonna stop coming in early - last two days I got there 7:45 a.m., but didn't leave until just a bit before 5 p..m. But at least I got a lot more caught up on some paperw**k and got some people apptmts. w/doctors.
On the remodeling at the restaurant where I use the WiFi, all they did was to re-do the area behind their coffee serving area (was louvered divider panels, is now drywalled/solid, but yet to be finished and painted). Guess this might take the remodelers longer than t'was expected...
I'll be finishing off my sundae at the RC for now.
Blessings and prayers,
Jim in Cape G.
Good evening from tropical west Louisiana. It's a pleasant 76°. Chance of rain tonight seems to be nil.Checked the batteries on the power chair today. Seems that they're both toast. Won't hold a charge for long. So naturally they have to be replaced. My father isn't a happy camper about that but oh well. I don't live under his roof so I don't have to listen to him gripe. Picked up a few things in town today. Among them a bottle of super glue gel, a dust pan (been needing one for years) and a half pound roll of 60/40 lead solder. Radio shack still sells the stuff. I got fed up with the no-lead crap years ago. It just doesn't seem to work right for me. I also got a new backup battery for my alarm clock. The old one was down to six volts and the clock would lose it's memory when the power went out. Got a two-pack so I'll have a spare on hand. Probably forget where I put it when I need it.Tomorrow I may be able to mow the grass. It needs it. I have to fix the tractor first. I need to install an idler pulley and a starter relay.Well, time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Hey Jeff,
Most chair batteries are gell cell now and most of the chargers have low voltage cuts so they won't burn out trying to charge a totally dead battery. Many now also need to be kept topped up or once they go flat they lose some percentage of their capacity. We get ours from Sears or Interstate and they last about 4 to 5 years as jumper batteries. We pay about $80.00 apiece for them. Some ti mes we can get a too low battery to charge by hooking in a good one in prarallal. Some of the auto parts stores will load test your batteries for you but I agree they sound shot. Good luck.
Rain all day and I spent the day checking wiring harnesses J.R.
Evenin' folks!
Janie, just my usual cup of decaf right now.
'twas a rainy day here in the Finger Lakes with about 3/4" of liquid sunshine here today. I did check the meter down cellar during the darkest part of the storm and the panels were still producing usable power though at a very reduced rate...
I did a bit of house cleaning (Sure needs a lot more) as granddaughter #2 will be here for a couple hours tomorrow so my son can get his annual hearing exam at work. Of course they couldn't do THAT during a day he is on the job as they wouldn't get w*rk from him during those 20 minutes... So he has to waste a morning of a day off and drive over there for the test. It is a requirement of his job.
I also painted several feet of rail rust brown today and did a few feet more of ballasting on the upper staging area.
I was just starting supper tonight when I spotted an ambulance in the driveway of a house almost across the street from mine. An elderly couple bought the house a few years ago. The husband fell and broke his hip not long after they moved in and may have passed away a year or so ago. Not sure. I have seen gthe lady who has difficulty getting around, but can walk a short distance a few times getting in and out of cars taking her places. No lights on over there tonight and when the ambulance left it was not in any hurry... I fear the worst for her!
Jeffrey, what kind of batteries does the cart use? Lead acid, Li-ion, or some other kind? I'm thinking they must be deep charge lead acid if a regular battery charger can charge then up. With the battery technology available today, they should be using something that can last for a decade or more and have thousands of cycles. might be a bit more expensive up front, but much cheaper and better in the long run.
Well, I am exhausted and have an early morning tomorrow, so I will head out soon!
Prayers for all in need!

Why Thank You Flo!
Sorry I have been so distracted lately. I have a lot on my mind lately and none of it is cheerful. Today was real slow, sat on my caboose most of the day. which was nice after Monday. But, did not make squat.
No word from Bank Of Stupid so far about modifying the home loan, Nor A Move Your Layout Letter either.
Stress Test. Sue is going to give it a shoot this Friday. So again I have to get up early to take her, if she does not take the test this time, well she won't die from heart problems.
See you all later, Ken

GOOD MORNING!!!
Bill has provided the date.
When something goes wrong and we want to express it in writing, the word
AAAAAARRRRGH! Comes to mind, SO:
argh / aargh / aaargh / aaaargh / aaarrgh / aaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrgh
(etc)-
exclamation, usually ironic or humorous (in this sense usually written and rarely verbal) - Argh, or more dramatically Aaaaaaaaaargh, is an exclamation - a written scream. Aaaarrrgh (there are hundreds of popular different spelling variants) typically expresses a scream or cry of ironic or humorous frustration. There seems no doubt that Aaargh is flourishing in its various forms due to the immediacy and popularity of internet communications (blogs, emails, etc), although actually it has existed in the English language as an exclamation of strong emotion (surprise, horror, anguish according to the OED) since the late 1700s. The OED prefers the spelling Aargh, but obviously the longer the version, then the longer the scream. In this respect it's a very peculiar and unusual word - since it offers such amazing versatility for the user. Spelling varies most commonly in the number of 'A's, and to a lesser extent in the number of 'R's. Repetition of 'G's and 'H's is far less prevalent. If you are wondering what Aaaaaarrrrgh and variants actually sound like, then consider the many types of outrageous screams which traditionally feature in fight/death/falling scenes in TV/cinema. Notable and fascinating among these is the stock sound effect known as the Wilhelm Scream. Incidentally (apparently) the term Wilhelm Scream was coined by Star Wars sound designer Ben Burtt, so-called because it was used for the character Private Wilhelm in a 1953 film The Charge at Yellow River. The sound effect was (again apparently) originally titled 'man being eaten by an alligator'. Please note that this screen version did not directly imply or suggest the modern written usage of Aaaarrrgh as an expression of shock - it's merely a point of related interest. The frustration signified by Aaargh can be meant in pure fun or in some situations (in blogs for example) with a degree of real vexation. The powerful nature of the expression is such that it is now used widely as a heading for many articles and postings dealing with frustration, annoyance, etc. The main usage however seems to be as a quick response in fun, as an ironic death scream, which is similar to more obvious expressions like 'you're killing me,' or 'I could scream'. To some Aaaaargh suggests the ironic idea of throwing oneself out of a towerblock window to escape whatever has prompted the irritation. AAAAAARRRRGH (capitals tends to increase the volume..) is therefore a very flexible and somewhat instinctual expression: many who write it in emails and blogs would not easily be able to articulate its exact meaning, and certainly it is difficult to interpret a precise meaning for an individual case without seeing the particular exchange and what prompted the Aaargh response. That said, broadly speaking, we can infer the degree of emotion from the length of the version used. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrgh clearly has a touch more desperation than Aaarrgh. The use of Aaaaargh is definitely increasing in the 21st century, and in different ways. Often the meaning includes an inward element like Homer Simpson's 'doh', or an incredulous aspect like Victor Meldrew's 'I don't believe it', and perhaps in time different spellings will come to mean different things. Interestingly the web makes it possible to measure the popularity of the the different spelling versions of Aargh, and at some stage the web will make it possible to correlate spelling and context and meaning. For now, googling the different spellings will show you their relative popularity, albeit it skewed according to the use of the term on the web. I suspect that given the speed of the phone text medium, usage in texting is even more concentrated towards the shorter versions. See Oliver Steele's fascinating Aargh webpage, (he gives also Hmmm the same treatment..) showing the spellings and their Google counts as at 2005. Interestingly the (April) 2008 Google count for Argh has now trebled to 9.3 million, and is no doubt still growing fast along with its many variations
Have a GREAT Day!!!

Good Morning!!!
Coffee and a stack of Buttermilk flapjacks with real butter and Blueberry syrup please. Thank you.
Sunny, with a high near 75. Breezy.
Sue- tell Larry great painting!
Lee- $50 is a lot of money for a brush however….., considering the amount of electricity to run the vacuum cleaner almost hourly it seems, the wear and tear (though it is a Kirby so that is minimal. Durn things run forever. Ones 11 years old the other is like 30) and granted that isn’t much, but the bags filled due to the fact that you have to run it so much and of course my precious time, $50 doesn’t seem so bad. We brush her often, but obviously not often enough because well, let’s face it, we’re lazy.
Jim- Not sure if the amount of things to do in a day is increasing, or I’m just slowing down. I’m kinda leaning toward the latter . So, the pro’s have a quick project that took longer than they figured huh? Well I know all too well that feeling.
Well I got to check out the guys pick-up yesterdee and the generator is fried. I also said I think they (the body shop) wired the truck wrong. He took the generator in to the repair shop (yes there is still a place that rebuilds alternators and generators) and they said it was bad and that they’d check the truck out if he’d bring it in. Sounded good to me. One less thing to do right? Weeell not exactly. It sounds like he’s gonna get the generator back, have me put it on, look at the wiring, put in a cigarette lighter (doesn’t smoke so why he’s wanting that so bad....?) then he wants to take it to them. Ok, his nickel.
Mortar is still not dried so another day of odds and ends othern shower.
Ya’ll have a good day!!!!

Good morning, Diners. Chloe, I will have a large black coffee with a cinnamon roll, please.
Jim, If you look closely, you can see the side rods. He will probably try a side view on the next one. He just started painting this spring, so I think he is off to a good start.
I will hang out a little longer on Thursday.

Morning All,
I called off work today. Last night when I got off my temp was 101.6 and felt like dog doo doo warmed over. I feel better but still not right. The fever must be breaking though because I am sitting in the living room with the AC and ceiling fan on and I'm sweating like I'm outside in the sun. The only thing I plan on doing today is take a nap.
Hope everyone has a good day and prayers for those in need.

Wednesday is my normal day off, so I am heading to the hospital in a bit to see if the docs are going to give wife second round of chemo. Depends of how other things are going. Then do some food shopping, laundry, and house cleaning. If time permits I will continue to weather track.
Prayers to all in need.

Morn... Ah... Afternoon folks!
Chloe, just a refil on the coffee for the moment. Thanks!
Never got in here this morning as my son and granddaughter showed up early. Son had to drive to Penn Yan where he w*rks to get his annual hearing test. So I got to play with granddaughter #2 for a couple hours. My son got back here and called in an eye drop prescription refill for #1 granddaughter and had to wait for an hour to go get it. No sooner does he walk in the house than there is a pickup parking right behind him. The project engineer from Rochester Solar to get the installation inspected (So a car pulls in after him). The engineer had been trying to call me all morning and was getting a busy signal... My phone was off the hook down cellar. I must have bumped it when I shut everything down last night.
The guy from Rochester Solar was here to set up the internet access for the system through my modem and as soon as they are finished at his end will give me an URL and a password to access exactly what the system is doing on my computer. They will also be back sometime next week as some things need to be corrected in the electric box (Change out some of the breakers for slightly different ones, etc.). As of now the testing phase is in progress, so it shouldn't be long before everything is OKed, NYSEG will be here to change to a different Meter, and I get to send a large check to Rochester Solar Technologies to pay for it! While we were down cellar the system was kicking out well over 4000 watts of power...
Tonight is Granddaughter #1s Kindergarten Open House which I am invited to so My son to come over for supper as well. BBQ Chicken (the Cornell Recipe), my favorite!
So..... I have a couple hours to spend down cellar with the trains!
Later!

Galaxy, I tend to think of Charlie Brown when I see various forms of "Aaaaaarrrrgh!" (He's usually saying that right after something to do with his ball team...)
Jeff, you're absolutely right about making room for a layout. I have mine smack dab in the middle of my living room (which makes getting around it to a file cabinet back in a corner a wee bit awkward at times).
It was another cool morning today, s'posed to reach mid-70's (F) today, so not bad.
Sue, I don't know that I've seen a prototype Shay in motion at normal running speeds (which admittedly, are slower than other locos), so not sure how 'easy' showing the rods (in motion) will be for Larry. That was just my curiousity talking as far as hoping for a side view. Larry probably can pull it off, though, based on that pic of his painting that you posted.
Ken, best wishes on Sue being able to get the stress test done (and on satisfactory results to that!).
Lee, I figure that when somebody uses the term 'double-dipping', they're just jealous ('cause they aren't...). You've already finished one career; now you're on your second one, eh?
Curt, maybe we should have Lee send you some of his 'freezing' weather to cool you down. Lots of juices and fluids, right? Take care of yourself there.
Has (Broadway) Lion been by the Diner lately? Didn't think I'd seen him here in a while.
Paul, how has your wife been holding up with the hospital (and their food...)?
Garry, enjoy your reunion next week!
Sam, you're extra-talkative today...
Ray, how's that with your internet connection? Will you have your own satellite to hook in, or what? (Got me curious)
I was about to stop by the Diner earlier (breakfast time) this morning, but then things got busy, then hectic, at w**k. Now I got away for lunch. Hopefully, the rest of the day will allow me to get the paperw**k done.
Afternoon
Mountain Dew for me, thanks.
My welding shop got canceled today so I had an easy day and was out of class by 11. kinda a rip off for the cost of tuition.

JimRCGMOJeff, you're absolutely right about making room for a layout. I have mine smack dab in the middle of my living room (which makes getting around it to a file cabinet back in a corner a wee bit awkward at times).
Afternoon folks!
Today has sure turned out to be a busy one... An old teacher friend (We call her 'Ma' for Mabel) who is organizing the annual Fine and Practical Arts Dept. get together, called to tell me she is heading into Geneva this afternoon with a pound of fresh churned Butter for me she got yesterday at a Mennonite stand on her way home from a trip!
JimRCGMO Ray, how's that with your internet connection? Will you have your own satellite to hook in, or what? (Got me curious)
The company that installed it will be monitoring for the next 25 years I think. If there is any problem, they will know before I would. There is a connection from the inverter to an internet box down cellar. In turn an Ethernet cable goes to the switch up here by my computer that is plugged into the Airport Express plugged into my Cable Modem... They are hooked up to the system 24 hours a day. They can monitor it for estimated output for the weather conditions, make sure it is perfectly synchronized with the grid, and make adjustments from their office when possible. I will be able to access the page my system is on at their website via a password and check on how it is doing myself as well.
Got a couple more feet of track ballasted and some rail painted this afternoon. It is light jacket weather outside already. Currently 59°F outside (High was at noon - 60°) and going down to the mid 40's tonight. We seem to have gone from the middle of Summer directly to mid Fall around here. Nice not to have the air conditioners grinding away though. I do not want to have to turn on the heat yet! Not in September anyway.
Catch you all later tonight!
Afternoon Folks
Why am I off you asked Flo? I get to that in a minute but first a beer pleases.
Reason I am off today? While I was getting ready for work I was checking out my feet. Want to guess what is twice it's normal sizes and is Purplish Red? Yep, my right big toe that had the ulcer that had me out of work for 5 weeks.
Had some antibiotic left from the last time and took around. Silly old me was going to go ahead and go to work anyway. While I was heading to work I got thinking how any many respects this company has screwed me over and said the heck with this and made a right turn to the ER Clinch on the way to work.
Seems I have Cellists, a skin infection. (not the fat dimples you get on your fat butt) Toe is so swollen the skin has a shine to it! ER Doctor gave me a new scrip that I start tonight. I am to stay off my feet for the next 4 day's and to contact my primary care giver.
My Primary Care Giver is the VA and waiting to hear from them. My guess is I will be heading to the VA Hospital in St Louis Thursday again.
While I am worried, this time I caught the problem quickly so not as worried as I was the last time.
Gary, so you heading thorough my neck of the woods. Any chances you coming close to Maryville IL 62062? Home of K-10 Model Trains

See you all later!
Infected toe Ken again!

JimRCGMOOzJim - how've you been doing on your MRR'ing (and how's your weather been recently)? I remember that some areas (hopefully not your particular area) got too much of a soaking
I ripped down the old layout and started fresh as a few things were bugging me. The code 80, the track plan... Anyway I've built my benchwork now 8' x 3' modules x 2 in an L shape. (Bigger and better!) I'm just waiting on some funds so I can get a box of track and a few turnouts to get started.
Weather has been good! Save for 3mm (1/8"!!) yesterday we've not had rain for 62 days! We're in for a hot dry summer with lots of severe storms.
Cheers!

Janie just a cup of decaf please...
Ken, glad you made the right decision to get yourself to the emergency room with the toe issue. I agree with Jeffrey! Get your regular doctor to refer you to the podiatrist ASAP! Insist on it. It could be the difference between saving or losing the toe!
Had a great supper over at my son's house and got to play for a while with both granddaughters before leaving for School. It was fun going to an open house and being the role of Grandpa rather than harried teacher! We were all in the kindergarten room when one of the other parents looked at me, Yelled, "Mr. Howard!" at the top of her lungs and ran over and gave me a bear hug! One of those little Middle School girls I taught way back when. We stood and talked for a few minutes and then gave each other another big hug. My DILs mother who was also with us was grinning at me and asked if it was one of my students. I haven't stopped grinning yet! One of those moments when all the time and effort I put into my career comes back letting me know I did some things right way back then! Good feeling...
I guess I'll see if I can get a bit more done in the train room.
Evening guys
Well I don't know wheter to be relieved or mad. On the way back from the local train club last night, I had a tire go out. One of the metal bars that hold the landscape timbers had apparently worked itself up and out. I knew something was wrong when I heard a pop and heard a hissing when I got out. It got the side of my tire, bad enough it got through the internal braiding. The wheel was unscathed though (it bulges out about 3/4 of an inch). I though I was going to have to cough up a bunch of $, because of the size of my rear tires (275/40 R17). My father had the idea of checking a local shop that does a lot of tire work. The guy there said there was no way to fix it, and they doubted they had any in that size. Just as he got back from checking out back, I saw not 1, but 2 used tires of the right size (one passeneger and the other driver's). I pointed to them and said there are two right there. He said they were holding them for someone, but he was supposed to pick them up 2 weeks ago. So I wound up getting the tire installed and balanced for $45. Got home and checked the pressure, and had to dial the pressure back about 10 psi (down to 34).
Trainwise I've just been painting wheelsets. Kind of unhappy I had to spend my spare $ for a tire.
Garry, I'm a long ways from done. Still have yet to order detail parts, figure out a way to keep the mounting lugs that stewart uses and have blank-out panels (no portholes), prime the shells, cut the brows off, sand down the mold lines on the As, cut skirts and some pilots, and drill out the remaining shells (6).
Jim, as they say; the first cut is alwsays the hardest. It's not too difficult when one does it enough. my problem is finishing projects.
Vincent
Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
