Good 'Middle-of-the-Day', Janie, I’ll have a glass of OJ, a BLT double, and a RBF in a NdeM mug, please. Thank you.Steamtown, eh? Good choice, Ulrich! A lot of really nice steamers outside there, even more than Ken’s photos from the Transportation Museum in St. Louis County. May take a good chunk of the weekend to start seeing all those beauties. Vincent - looks like you did pretty good at taking the paint off. Guess maybe that Chris gave you some good suggestions on paint finishing (but what do I know? )Ken, glad to hear the vet has Miss Shaddy started on the mend (and meds). Yeah, I could see her connecting up the dog food with her barfing when she wasn’t feeling (at all) good. (Ever hear of a guy named Pavlov teaching his dogs?...) Maybe, if you’re lucky, after Shaddy gets feeling better, you can try mixing a little of that food from your supersized bag of dog food into/ with whatever she will go for in between now and then. Or she may not...Ray, how have your roofer’s repairs been holding up so far? Hey, I'd say it was a good thing that you took some of your Scouts to Steamtown a decade ago (Gee, that makes it sound sooooo long ago, doesn't it?). Like your steamer shot of the (can't tell if it's a Pacific or something bigger) Looks very nice!Mr. Beasley, you almost sound like you live in the Midwest! When I’m interviewing people initially and ask about any medical conditions, one of the most frequent (and less severe) conditions I get is “seasonal allergies”... I can’t argue with them on that. Hope your pollen there stays washed down/off (and off of you) for a goodly while.Barry, once that low pressure system moves away, you may get our type of weather (or maybe you already are?) - yesterday morning we were down to the low 50’s (F), and had a high temp of almost 70 F. Good deal on the MRR book find at the yard sale!
Todd, I tried to warn you to get going to the store! Hope you got all your errands & returning done yesterday. Think we all have had that "set out to do a dozen things and only got three of them done" kinda Saturday. But what the hey, sometimes I think that's (real) life. Seems like stores don't have as useful of a range of "Things I need" nowadays (don't ask..).
Darren, that was a cute little shed there - what is it used for (and what's a 'steel drive')? You and Flip mentioning Ed as The Answer Man reminded me of how he tracked down a question I had in the Coffee Shop (preceded the Diner), a fair number of years ago. And it wasn't related to oil or Mexican RR's, so I figure he went and hunted the info down for me. Great person and model railroad buddy.
Ulrich - on the MIA's, I have heard from DerJohn, and you're about right - I think other (non-MRR) things have been snatching some of his time (not even sure that he's been getting much MRR stuff done). Trainman Sam may be busy with his 1:1 RR job, as I recall that before his last post it had been a bit of a while since he had been in earlier. Now if Galaxy would show up again...
Also, I've swapped some emails with Robby P. (about mid-May), and he is busy with his job (w**king 3rd shift), but is still selling some weathered cars on de'Bay. He's been having trouble with getting into the forums, but was going to have a guy he knows come by and help him figure it out. Robby did say to post some pics for him, of some cars he's been weathering lately:
and his perennial favorite, the RailBox:
Garry, I sent an email to Ed's family, and I see Flip heard some from them and forwarded it to me (I see Flip posted since I started writing), and I guess he informed Dick (Grayfox) as well. But there may be others. ChefRyan was asking, so I'm guessing somebody may have emailed him with the little info that we have for now.
Ah, Flip, that Lancaster bomber with the pink paint load in the bomb bay... Yep, some chuckles from our past.
Curt, good to hear from you again (and how things went with your surgery). Make sure you are rested up enough when you go back to w**k, though (and get your 'good bacteria' w**king again!).
CN Charlie, sounds like you and your high school friend had a good visit. It's nice, isn't it?
Jeff, I bet you were ready to call it a day once you finally got you and the van back home(!) Sounds like an ordeal, all right.
Vincent, what about five-minute (or quicker) epoxy for gluing on your details? If you have several grab irons or grill/other parts, the five-minute kind would give you a little more leeway to get most of a batch put on.
PA Tom, good to see you stopping by the Diner. Don't be a stranger!
And Jeff, thanks for reminding us of David Parks' birthday! Have a great birthday, David! Cake and ice cream are my treat, Diners!
Guess that Broadway must have done like his big cats and ate too much yesterday (now sleeping in a tree like that Colorado lion...).
I will set a spell at the window booth and rest up (wound up out last night (on-call), and about two or three hours shy of my usual snooze time).
Prayers for Ed's family, for those healing up (two-legged and four-legged ones), resting up, and just too tuckered out for doin' a lot (and a Happy Birthday to one certain Diner!).
Blessings,
Jim in Cape G.
Hey CURT- glad to see you back and healing. Missed your layout pixs.
I used to have pixs from ED but when the other 'puker died, lost them. All of his trips to various Mexican R.R.s Some nice old engines. I still have a joke that FRAN sent me in 2005 and a couple long ones from ED. Also have the D& RG car inventory he sent me when I asked about the "COOKIE" cars. Who Else remembers the fun we had with PINK LOCOS??
Prayers and Blessings.

Afternoon All,
Doing OK today. Slept So..So..last night. Had a pretty common issue last night which was basically my GI system flushed itself from the massive doses of antibiotics I have had over the last 4 days, so I have been eating yogurt to try to repopulate my good GI bacteria.
CN Charlie- I'm glad you were able to see your old friend and re-connect after all those years.
Ken- Hope you feel better soon.
Everyone take care and prayers for those in need.

Not feel worth a darn right now. Called in and told Dave I was not feeling well and he flipped out. He thought I was going to tell him I am not coming in at all. Told "Dave, I just want to come in a hour later, around 11:00 and not 10:00. He claimed down after that.
Charlie Boy I hope it is that simple! The 2-10-2 does run great, but squeaks on some spots on the layout. Sounds like a Hamster Wheel. I have oiled the tender wheels, side rods and front and rear trucks but the squeak is still there.
David Hope you have many more!
Vincent Yep, the pictures where taken in St Louis of the SD 45. It was in the best shape of all there engines. I am pretty sure it still ran, but it has been 5 years now.
See you all later.

Ah 19. I remember that as if it were just last week.
Ulrich- Good you brought up the insurance part of the solar panels. I never thought of that. I actually had been ever so mildy thinking about the panels myself.
Welp maybe today will be the day I get to cleanup this here office of mine. Seems something always comes up to either pull me away or distract me. The later is not real hard either. Yesterday I did get to Menard’s and get the flooring returned and ate at Hickory River, a local chain BBQ joint. Smoke house joint actually I guess if you want to get technical. They do have excellent brisket. We'll see what today brings.
Ya’ll have a good day!!!!
Morning...
We already went to a church sale and got some more plants and a few other things...and a couple of old rr books...
It is rather cool out there though..only 46F and feeling more like 42F because of the wind. Oh...and rainy...
The rest of today will be spent doing an oddment of things..dang HD list ...and I might even get a chance to run some trains.....
Morning guys
Have to go to work in about an hour. I only work for 4 hours today. What's weird is I told my boss I needed Saturdays off to do things around the house, and that shifts less than 5 hours are kind of pointless to me. She was doing fine about that until this week. After work I'm going to help with setting up my brother's graduation party. It's tonight at 4, dunno when everyone will leave. So I may not get much MRR work in today. So far I've been re-writing a parts list of detail parts needed to work on the 5 shells I have. I'll update it when I get other shells.
It's round 2 with the Fs. I used the remaining alcohol I bought and soaked the 3 shells that had very little of the gunk from the goof-off. The 4 I reglued the stirrup on with some Faller Expert cement, followed by Ambroid pro-weld. I'm gonna let both groups sit until tomorrow.
Ken, Is that EL SD45 at the museum in St. Louis? It looks really nice (partial to SD45 here). Looks like you don't like short shifts either. I worked 5 days and only got 34 hours scheduled. But work is crazy and I think I'll be knocking on the door of 38 maybe even 40.
Vincent
Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
Wishing a happy birthday to my good friend David Parks. He's nineteen today.Good morning. It's 68° and sunny. The high will be 92 and it'll be partly cloudy.Nothing special on the schedule today. My blood sugar level this morning is sixty five so I have to get that up or risk passing out. I'm still hurting from all that happened yesterday so I'll be getting lots of rest today.
Good morning, Chloe. Coffee and a waffle, please.
Curt, Glad you are doing better. I'll bet you are excited to have the diner at Steamtown. While you are healing up, get lots of modeling done.
Later, Sue
Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.
Good Morning Gang!
Well it´s actually lunchtime here in Germany. It his April? We are having a mix of sunshine, rain and hail storms, with temperatures stay below the 10 C mark. No time to be spent outside...
Ray - having solar panels installed is the craze of the day in Germany. The solar power business is booming, despite our government having cut back the subsidies. What a lot of folks don´t consider is, that the fire insurance premiums go up quite a lot, when you have those panels on the roof. Not that those panels add to the fire risk, but firefighters do not fight the fires, but let the building suffer a "controlled burn-down", always resulting in a complete loss. Some years ago, a firefighter got killed while battling a fire in a house with solar panels on the roof - he literally got electrocuted.
The increase in rates eat up whatever profit was there...
Have a good day!
Galaxy - where art thou, my friend?
Good Morning! from Tipton IN.

Ken, the motor is isolated and no I didn't put resistors on the headlight. There are 2 screws under the cab and one under the pilot truck to remove the shell. Then it only requires removing the wires on the motor and soldering on the decoder leads. Good luck. It runs great and has a very smooth, quiet mechanism.

Evening Folks!
Flo, thank you dear for the
Shaddy say Woof Woof for all the well wishes. Hum, have not seen Broadway Lion giving any. While I am still a little worry (wife has not seen her leave any treats in the backyard) she has eaten more dog food.
Gary Sorry but that is the only shot of the Mother Huber engine. Engines are really pack in there.
Charley Is the motor all ready isolated in the 2-10-2? If so, I will get on it right away. Do I need resistors for the lights?
Vincent I will check PM's here in a little while.
Work Front Dave has me working 6 days again next week! Reason I am PO is because I am only getting 41 hours! I would not mind working 50 to 55 hours a week. If I am needed, I be happy to work 6 days straight if I get 48 to 52 hours! But this horse stuff of working 6 days for 1 hour overtime is going to not fly.
Craig The new Dip $%# that cry's about that he has to go, has 3 days off and has yet to close! Think I will go watch TV in the customer lobby Saturday with the other &%%&**%^$)&( .
Evenin' folks!
Janie just a decaf for me at the moment. I'll be in the back taking a nap for a while.... Dukes snoring? Nah, I just turn off the hearing aids and I can't hear a thing.
My left foot is finally starting to feel almost normal. Just slightly sore at the moment. I got a lot of stuff done today including some ties cut creosoted (stained), and put down in the yard. My son's BIL stopped over to pick up a couple folding tables from me this afternoon, then after work (about 8:30PM) my son showed up to borrow my truck to take over the same tables..... Communication is such a problem today.... You'd think with the cell phones, texting, email, and such that they would be able to get some simple things right.... I think it was easier 50 years ago! There is a 1st. birthday party for little Aiden tomorrow at the BIL's house. I got him a block take apart train... Gotta start the kid off in the right direction you know!
Got in touch with another Solar company today. They have a plan where you can Lease the panels for 20 years, they will provide all service as a part of contract for the 20 years at a price cheaper than buying the panels...... The savings in cost start immediately and would increase as the price of electricity goes up over the years. Since I don't plan on being here (at least in this house) 20 years from now, that may be the best choice. They have just completed 2 installations here in Geneva recently, one on the Community Center, and the one on my Pastors house. Within a couple weeks I should be ready to decide which of the companies I want to go with....
Curt... Glad there were no complications and you have arrived back home.
Jeffrey, sounds like you had quite a day....
An evening treat outside the window for all of you:
My favorite Mike!!!
Blessings to all!
Evening guys
Didn't go racing because my father thought it was gonna rain. It did last night and earlier today. Did I mention the crazy drivers that nearly made me run into them or ran into me today? I swear some people do not look when they pull out into traffic. I nearly ran into the back of 2 trucks, and almost got T-boned by another driver. All because they didn't check before they pull out... Let's just say I'm glad I spent most of my car upgrading money on suspension. I was able to steer around the trucks and stop before I got T-boned.
Well I made, then lost, then recovered, some headway on stirpping those stewart F shells. I was beginning to suspect that the alcohol was getting weak, so I stuck a scrape on one of my knuckles in it (not very scientific here . Nothing. So I dumped it outside on the sun-drenched patio and it took a while to go away. I decided sine there was still a little bit left on the remaining shells that I should try something a little more potent. Didn't have any pinesol or goo-gone, but I found some goof-off. Well it worked, sort of... It got the paint off really good, but it left a very tough residue on the plastic, and it stained nearby areas white. I tried scrubbing them with soap and water to get it off and got nowhere. So I almost gave up. I decided to look online to see what would remove the residue. I managed to find that goo-gone, abrasive polish, and nail polish remover would work. Didn't have any goo-gone and my mother only uses acetone nail polish remover. I found some abrasive polish in the garage, so I tried that. Hallejula it works. I'm not finished recovering from the mistake of using goof-off, but at least I know I can remove the stuff it's just gonne take even more time.... I'm gonna pick up some goo-gone after work tomorrow to see if it works better on removing the gunk. Might take a look at a certain brand of oven cleaner too.
Ken, Check PMs
Jeff, sounds like you had fun (sarcastically). Glad to see I'm not the only one nearly getting cut-off today.
Bill, do you have any ideas for CA substitues?
Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.
Good Evening Diners,
It seems that I am one of those missing and I admit I haven't been in for over a month but I have checked in from time to time to see what's going on. I just haven't had much to say lately.
Curt, hope the operation went well and that you are on the mend. Some great modelling there. I am amazed at how much you have done in so short a time. Great looking layout but I do think you need more trees but I must admit I'm rather keen on lots of trees on a layout unless it is desert or the prairies.
Ken, glad to hear Shaddy is responding. Once our little Pippa started throwing up her food soon after eating and it turned out she had developed an allergy to the protein in the lamb and rice formula food we were giving her. We changed food and she was fine after that. Our vet said food allergies in dogs is quite common now. Likely is all the other junk they put in some of it.
Ken you were wondering about installing a decoder in that Mehano 2-10-2. I have the same engine and also a Mehano Hudson, which is basically the same shell and mechanism. For the 2-10-2 , I tried to fit a small decoder above the motor but it kept shorting as there just wasn't enough space so I put the decoder in the tender. It was an easy job, just solder the motor wires to the decoder and the track wires. I didn't try to do the headlight so it is always on. The IHC locos were largely made by Mehano.
Barry, hope the treatments work as planned.
Well not much new here. I have done very little with the layouts as yard work and painting have been taking up my spare time. The painting is now done but the yard sure isn't. We have a lot of flowers to plant which my wife normally does but her back has been bothering her so I will be doing a lot of it this year.
I did have an interesting time a lunch today. I met a high school friend that I hadn't seen in 32 years. We were very good friends when I lived in Rainy River but we had lost contact. Funny but we both said it just seemed like it was just a couple of weeks since we last talked, not 32 years. He lives in Victoria now but may be back in town in Sept. so hope we can connect again.
See you soon,
Curt - Happy to hear all went well with your procedure. Wishing you a speedy and full recovery.

Well, today was one of those days! Went into town to get my drivers license renewed. So I had to go by the bank and withdraw some money for that. They don't like checks and debit cards for license renewals. So I get bto the bank and swipe my card at the ATM and enter my PIN. Not accepted. Maybe I entered the numbers transposed. Last two numbers where the first two should be. So I try it the other way. Not accepted. By now I'm getting pretty irritated. I swipe the card a third time and enter the number exactly as it should be. Not accepted. One more time! I enter the number and just for good measure I slug the machine. ACCEPTED! Gee, all I had to do was ask nicely and threaten to turn it into scrap! I got my money and headed for the OMV. On the way I dropped off a list of meds at the pharmacy. Got to the OMV (edge of town) and took a number. There was already a pretty respectable crowd there. My number was H14. G79 was being served. Shades of the army! Hurry up an wait! So I wait. Time creeps by. I strike up conversations with some of the others there to pass the time. Well, my number finally came up. H14. I went in and answered their questions and aced their little eye exam. Got my photo taken and they actually did a half descent job of it this time. Last time I looked like something that had sneaked out of a high security prison. On this one I look kinda like Adam Savage from Mythbusters. Got out of there and went to get gas for the van. Got to the station and the pump didn't want to work right. I put the nozzle in the filler neck and the instant it started pumping the filler nozzle turned off. It did this several more times so I had to hold the handle up halfway to get gas to go in. Took a while to fill it up. From there went to pay some bills then went on to the pharmacy to pick up my meds. Not ready yet. So I wait. Finally they're ready. I pay for them then head to Wal-Mart. I was looking for a parking space close to the store when I was startled by a load bang and the the sound of high pressure water hitting the bottom of the van and the ground. The smell of anti-freeze and steam coming from under the hood told me what had happened. It was one of those 'OH CRAP!' moments. Well there were no open spaces on that row but I spotted one on the next row so I very gingerly drove to the top of the row and turned to the next row and got cut off by some lout in an SUV who then proceeded to drive so slow he could have taken up squatters rights. I saw the open space getting closer and the lout was edging toward it. There was enough space for me to squeeze through and get the space first and I did it. No way was I burning up my engine because of him. Once he saw the steam blowing off like Old Faithful he didn't have much to say. I looked under the front and saw the problem. The lower radiator hose had blown and had a three inch long tear in it. So I went to customer service and called my mother and told her I needed a ride to get my groceries home. I didn't have them yet but I would by the time she got there. A fast driver she ain't. It take me fifteen minutes to get to town. The same trip takes her over half an hour. Must be a new slow speed record for the Pontiac G6. So I get my groceries including two gallons of anti-freeze/coolant and soon after I get out of the store she shows up. First stop was home to put the perishable stuff including meds away. Then it was back to town to get a new lower hose and a set of clamps. Back to Wal-Mart to repair the van while my mother went to Stage to do some shopping of her own. New hose fit like a glove. New clamps didn't. They were just one size too small. The old ones weren't bad off so I used them. Made sure everything was tight then dumped in the two gallons of coolant. It wasn't enough and I knew it wouldn't be. I took the two containers to automotive (other side of the store) and had them filled willed water then went back and dumped that in the radiator. Still not enough. So another trip to get the containers filled again. It took just over five and a half gallons to fill it up. I knew that radiator was big but man! Looking down in it I can count three cores and that's just what I can see. There's room for a fourth core and probably is one. But it took me longer to fill the thing than it did to replace the frikkin hose. Finally got back home a little before six and I'm wiped out.

Indeed! When that CA lets the bond get loose, it is hard to catch.
Evening All,
I had the surgery last night at 9 PM and it was a success without the complications that occur with about 50% of the surgeries. I was released today about 4 PM. I still have pain but it is a fraction of what it was a couple of days ago. I will be out of work next week and see the surgeon next Friday for a follow up. She expects me to be out of work the week after that but I hope not.
Ken- I'm glad Shaddy is doing better. Great pic of the loco's.
Barry- I'm glad your health issue seems to be going well.
Well my father wants to go to the drag track in panama city. I'm thinking of taking my car along, if I can use his drag radials. They don't fit his LTD, so i hope he will let me.
I was thinking about my F-units earlier and I realized something. I was intending to use superglue to glue all the metal parts to the plastic shell, but then I remembered my past experience with superglue and detail parts. I had a set of P2K GP30 that I added the DW kit to, but the detail parts would always fall off. In my experience CA always gets brittle and looses it bond. I've learned since then that roughing up the parts before hand helps; but I'm still wary of superglue. Anyone else have any suggestions?
Chris, You bring up a good point about primer covering stuff up. Guess I'll know for sure when it gets to that phase. I've never heard of drilling out the stacks before, I'll think about it. I just have to buy a bunch of detail parts (and some #80 drill bits, the ones I just got don't have points ). before I hit them with primer.
Todd, Mine happens to be black, but it does have a notch in the longer bristles.
MIA list, Sawyer happens to be active on another forum I'm on and I was chatting with him on facebook a few days ago. I'll ask him why he hasn't stopped by next time I talk to him.
