I wish I'd got my Detail Associates backgrounds ordered earlier. Stock on those is hard to come by nowadays (wanted two of their "Woods" backdrops, but every place I've checked is out of them). Ah well...

Yeah, I just looked. City, downtown, industrial, woods and forest are out of stock. Everything else (everything YOU don't want is in stock.

Big bowl of the House Stew, please.

Been trying to take it easy and rest this toe. I'm not the best at keeping still when there is so much to do out on the farm. I have got to work on fixing a section of fence that is coming down. Did call someone to see if they still need a little work. Otherwise, I'll be hobbling about tomorrow, pounding fence posts with my one sorta good arm.Hmm

Hope y'all are doing well. Would sure like to see more layout pics, to compensate for my lack of any.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

Time for me to call it a day. Mowed the parents yard this morning. Later had a twenty foot sweetgum tree at the west edge of my property fall over across the ditch and into the road. Thankfully it fell away from the power and TV cables. The tree had been diseased at the base for some time and the winds today finally got it. My father and I grabbed hold of it and pulled it into the ditch to get it out of the road. No layout work today. See y'all tomorrow.

Evenin' folks!

Janie,  just a cup of decaf at the moment.

Actually managed to spend a bit of time down in the train rooms today.  Got a bit of track laid and another turnout put in place.  Then I read and answered a bunch of emails from people......  I'm tired and I just want to relax and not worry about the Division problems and program for one day after a meet, and some people won't let it happen..........Grumpy  make note to myself, disconnect the phone. don't op[en my email, and become a hermit in the hills!!!

This was one of the exhibits open yesterday for our members:

Have a great night.  Prayers for all in need.

Curt I am tickled you are all so enjoying my Mopar pictures! Here is a sweet one, 1969 Hemi Daytona!

Next series of pictures are sad pictures to me. Rusted and or dead dead Mopar's. But, parts have to come from somewhere, I guess. Sad

Work Front Another day in Paradise ! Boy I love working there! I smile most of the day and I am sure the customers take it in a positive way! When I am at the Foul View Heights store (Fairview Heights) I am sure I frown most of the time. Guess it shows me that I maybe working for the right company but for the wrong people!

 See you all later, Ken

OK everyone - I am new to the diner so I will have to adjust a bit to ordering coffee on line. Good thing is I can order anything I want and not get any fatter!Laugh. So I will have a cheese burger and poutine with a large diet coke Laugh as if the diet coke has some sort of redeeming qualities! Good thing I don't do this in the real world!

I am not a fan of Korean cars and your experiences prove why. There is absolutely no justification for service at 60K to cost that much. I drive Hondas and I expect to get 200K plus out of them before major expenses. I am on my fourth and fifth Hondas and I have had precisely 3 recalls overall, and I have never had a basic service call cost more than $450.00 plus parts and the parts prices have been very reasonable. In fact, I didn't even know about two of the recalls but the dealer dealt with them during regular service without having to be asked. Granted Hondas are expensive up front but they also hold their value.

I had an interesting thing happen at the Honda dealer a while ago. My 2002 Odessey had to have the rotors replaced which cost about $100 each plus pads etc (may have been a bit more - I can't remember). When I was paying my bill, the very nice young lady serving me commented that my bill was very low. Well, it didn't quite seem that low to me so I asked her why she thought so. She confessed to having bought a KIA 4x4. She needed rotors at 35K kilometers. They were about $400.00 each! Enough said

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!

Hi Dave a big Welcome to you from the folks in the Diner! Here we can chat about anything that is in our lives and NOT model or Train related!!! Just a few rules: keep it clean, both language AND the diner *** and span, DO NOT talk about "inflamatory subjects" such as politics and religion {you can say you went to church, but don't press religious views on others}. And enjoy yourself here. TIpping the wait staff at about 15-20% is acceptable to Flo and the others, Whoever gets the top of the page must "buy" the food for all posters on that page. WE DO have a nice "bouncer" to keep order here.

This will likely be my last Kia. It was also  my first. Someone here said that they thought Kia were supposed to be good vehicles...after all being an offshoot of Hyundai..WHICH THE KIAS ARE NOT. Hyundai Bought Kia. or KIA bought Hyundai...one or the other. I should post to him to correct that..tomorrow I will.

I bought it used with only 51-52,000 on it {?}. It has had a lot of work done under warrantee under my putting 5-6000 on it since I got it 2 1/2 years ago {it doesn't go very far with me}. It already had the back coil springs replaced as they went bad and broke, the sliding door latches replaced as the sliding door latch can come apart and the door open at highway speeds {or lower}, Now the front coil springs. Among many other warrantee works..so much so that the service tech for KIA recognizes my voice on the phone from when I say "hello" when he answers!!!

Warrantee was to 5 years or 60K miles. It wore out on me at the 5 year point. I am not sure of their quality now. The dealer told me te servicing would cost about $ 1500 at 60K. I would rather have them do it at the 60K point, as opposed to Firestone or Joe blow's garage. They might just have a service bulletin to fulfill. A service bulletin is a nice way of getting out of a recal as they only do the repairs if brought to dealer ro customer requests it, NOT the Involuntary recall a Recall entails!

Repair/replace parts CAN take awhile to get here, as they often come on a slow boat from Korea, although since KIA is now commited to USA, they now have manufacturing plants/parts suppliers here in the USA now.

Problem is, I can't afford a Honda Odessey as they are expensive unless you wnat a 8-10 y/o model, which I don't And Dodge is stopping the caravans with this model year, so I question how long parts for then will be available, and the closest Dodge dealer for warrantee or service work is about 13 miles away.

We really like minivns cargo space, but may purchase a small wagon next time witha  cargo carrier on top!

Well, here I sit very early in the AM, fat dumb and happy. Whistling

Good Morning All,

Not much to report, here on the North Coast of Ohio.  We are still in a freeze-thaw-freeze weather pattern.  I went to Joann’s fabrics Saturday and loaded up on some paint: I found IRON OXIDE pretty cheap and Chromate Yellow. I’ve been pretty busy doing chores or work so no time to mess with the trains.  I did get the new air brush in and hooked up, and watched the training video for it.

Heading to Utica to see the kids this weekend…

Good Morning!!!  Coffee scrambled eggs, bacon hash browns and whole wheat toast please with grape jam thank you.

Partly sunny, with a high near 64. Breezy, with a west southwest wind between 18 and 24 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph.

The world is a better place with one less sweet gum tree.

Welcome Dave!

G- Ooops. I may have been one to say I thought KIA’s were pretty good. I know a couple people who have them and are very happy…so far. But like you if I ever had that much trouble with a vehicle, I wouldn’t buy another.

Mowed yesterday and it was good. I decided not to bag though I should have. It wasn’t that bad turns out so all is well. I need to rake all the leaves from last year up that have buried themselves in the ground because last year I never got to mulching them up.

Bookw**k for the Church this morning then off to do whatever the day allows me to do.

Ya’ll have a good day!!!!

Good morning, Chloe.  Did you notice that Bill has a color photo today?  Coffee, please.

I ran out of scale 1 x 4's yesterday.  The only train hobby shop that carried scale lumber is no longer in business.  That means that I need to place an order.  I am not very motivated.

No work today.  Maybe I will work on the doors for the car shop.

Later,  Sue

Good morning. It's 58° with rain and lots of thunder and lightning. The high will be 78° and there's a better than 70% chance of rain.

Hello from a very wet west central Louisiana! The weather picture looks very ugly as you can see from the radar image below.

Not much on the schedule today. I may work on the layout a bit but that really depends on the weather. If the power goes out that'll mean no lights or tools. Last night my father was questioning my decision to cut the grass yesterday instead of waiting to do it Friday. I told him there was at least one major storm on the way, probably more and the ground woukd likely be too wait bi then. I bet he's not questioning it now!

Well, I have to duck out of here and take cover. I hear another thunder boomer coming in. Take care of yourselves and have fun.

Well the insurance won't go up for the glass repair. Yet.

Safelite is coming tomorrow to replace it in the morning. they say it will take 90mins-2 hours, I thought Windshields were replaced faster than that! But don't remember it was a while ago that I last had a windshield replaced.

So that is that for now. I certainly hope they bring the one with the wiper blade heater in it will ask when they call in the AM to verify appt.

MOH has  a Dr. Appt today and we may stop by the insurance to pay them the next 6 months payment. They don't send out the bill til like the 20th I get it the 25 and it is due the 30th..I don't trust the mail to get it there in time and don't like to run the risk of it not getting credited in time and me driviing around thinking I am covered.

SO, that is the afgenda.

Oh we put  in the AC in the BR window as supposed to be 80* today and MOH claims sweaty mornings means time to install the AC! I couldn't disagree, I been sweating since our high temps last month! A fan only does so much on me directly!

Well, here I sit fat dumb and happy.Whistling

Good Morning Modelers!

It's 34F and sunny here in the Mile High.  Got a bit of rain and a slight dusting on snow over the weekend; not allot but enough.  Should be shooting back up into the 70's for the next several days.

My thoughts out to all effected by the nasty weather the past several days...

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a short stack of buttermilk pancakes, real maple syrup, a side order of bacon, and my dark roast coffee in a R&GV RR mug this morning.

Think I will be spending most of the day down in the cool train room as the weather prognosticators are calling for a high of 84°F today.....  Currently 74°F out there under partly.....  Not partly cloudy because it is supposed to be partly sunny, partly cloudy, partly rainy, and partly way too hot!

Galaxy, I hear you on the problems with the car.  I can honestly say in the 4+ years I have had the Yaris, I have not spent 1¢ on it other than normal service.  There was only one issue, the switch on the clutch (remember clutches????) that allows you to engage the starter was not doing its job.  A small shim put in corrected it and they didn't charge me anything to do it.  A friend of mine had a Toyota 4 Runner he bought used and owned for 22 years.  It had close to 300,000 miles on it not counting the thousands of hours it sat running at fire calls on high idle with its warning lights flashing.  He finally replaced it with another used 4 runner but kept the old one to plow snow in his driveway for another 4 years before he sold it.  Still had the original engine, transmission, and drive train. Only reason he replaced it was the body was collapsing after 26 or more years of being exposed to Finger Lakes salt....  My sister has an 8 year old Camry.  No problem whatsoever...  Did have to replace the tires I think.  I would certainly not buy another vehicle from the same company after experiencing the problems you have had.  We dropped VW as a source of cars after having one Rabbit! What an experience THAT was!

Best get myself under motion as it is getting hot in here and I have other stuff needing to be done!

Later!

Howdy ..

Welcome HOn30Critter ! Good to see you here!

Ray ... The caboose looks great! Would you like for Jeff or Curt to weather it for you?

Jeff & Curt ... Nice weather projects lately

Galaxy ... I hope MOH's appointment went well and MIL will be okay.

Rob ... I hope the toe recovers. I'm sure it is painful to walk now.

Jerry ... Good to see you. I hope the power chair is working agin for you.

Jim CG ... Sounds like a good trip to St L... Thanks for commenting on my photos. Yes, we should all be concerned about higher taxes in 2013. Both the 2003 tax cuts and the temporary payroll tax cuts expire. It means a big increase in taxes for everybody.

I'm still working on 4 sets of complicated  tax returns. I'm glad the deadline is April 17 instead of  April 15.

Regarding cars, my first car was a Chevy and I have had mostly GM. I got my Chevy truck 10 years ago and it has never mechaical problems except for 3 very minor problems. Shelley's Caddy (8 years old) has no mechanical problems, but the super high-tech electronic gismos have needed some costly repairs in the past two years. The 25 year old Porsche is supposed to be a hobby, but I never spend time with it. It will not run without more expensive work.

On the layout, I am taking "sanity breaks" to operate trains.

 Morning Fellow Dinners!

Flo, Eggs over easy, bacon and hash-browns and a coffee please.

What does a day off mean to me? It means my wife as more time to tell me what money she need's. So far today she has told me she needs money for toilet paper, she needs gas money, she needs money to pay the cable bill, she needs money to buy pancakes. Now, I know we need this stuff, but that is all I hear from her.

What real brought this to the point I am posting about it started last week. On a day off I saw the UPS driver carrying a huge box to my front door. Well I did not order anything, must be bring it to the wrong house. Meet him at the door and Sue followed. As I was getting ready to them him he had the wrong house Sue said "I did not think it would get her so fast".

Seems she ordered a new Glass Table and chairs for the patio? She all so explained that it was only $150.00 and payments would only be $25.00 a month. She all so told me she has good credit with the mail order company's and all wise makes her payment on time! That explains why when I give her a $20.00 bill to buy something for $10.00 I never get my change! Personally I think mail order company's like New Port New's should require proof of income before they start send people stuff! SoapBox

So today she came out and said she need's $25.00 to make a payment on the patio set! I just looked at her and said "I am trying to figure out how to make the house payment and pay the cable bill and you want $25.00 to make a payment on something you did not tell me you where buying in the first places?" She got up set and said it only $25.00 dollars? $25.00 dollars to me is gas or food, booth of which we need, table set? We did not need.

I swear she just does not get it, it is like having a 60 year old child! Bang Head Just because she says we need it does not make money just appear. Well, I guess to her it does, she has never supported her self or lived alone where the only person you can count on is your self. Sigh

Sorry about the rant folks, just need to get it off my chest.

Time to eat, see you all later!

Sounds almost like my mother at times. Always buying things just to let them pile up unused and take up space. At least she uses her own money which in her case almost literally comes out of the ground. It's the royalties on her oil and gas wells. It doesn't amount to much but it gives her a little spending money.

Galaxy:  I hope they install the new windshield properly in your vehicle.  Many years ago, the company van from the company I worked for at the time had a cracked windshield and I was delegated to take it to have it replaced.  A week later the new windshield developed a crack starting at the bottom.  Took it back.  Turned out they failed to remove a piece of broken glass from inside the channel and the stress of the pressure from that on the windshield along with the heat from the defroster cracked the glass.  I hated driving that van on the highway.  It was a full sized cargo van and in a cross wind it became a sail.

With all this talk about mowing grass, I have a question about lawn mowers.  I hope it's not too far off topic here.  Our lawn mower just gave up the ghost after about 25 years of faithful service.  It will cost more than it's worth to repair the engine.  However, I have to give it credit for that B&S engine lasting so long.  They're tough little engines.  Since our lawn is fairly small, only 2314 square feet or 257 square yards, I'm considering buying a battery powered mower so I don't have to mess with all the things involved with caring for a gasoline engine.  At my age and with my health simpler and easier is much better.  The biggest concern I have is the weight of the machine.  I briefly checked out a few in a store the other day and those things are HEAVY!  I know most of the weight is in the battery, and I'm concerned about carrying that battery in and out of the house to charge it.  I'm wondering if any of you have any experience with battery powered mowers and what your comments are.  My wife is leaning towards hiring a lawn care service to mow and fertilize our lawn for us.  That idea tempts me greatly but my male ego doesn't want to give up one of my "man of the house" duties.  On the other hand, both of us are fast approaching the time when we won't be able to take care of this house properly anyway.  But that is a whole 'nother issue with its many drawbacks the biggest of which would be the loss of my model railroad and workshop.  Sigh!  Getting old sucks!

Hi Bob, (Seamonster)

Yes indeed, I know exactly what you are feeling and I agree, these Golden years aren't so Golden other than maybe that racing stripe in your Jockeys.

I too  have looked at those battery operated models and I think if I had to change right now that is how I would go. I really like the idea of not packing around gas or fighting with an electrical extension cord. In regard to bringing in the battery for recharging, first consider just rolling the whole mower into your shop and if that doesn't work, how about a little two wheeler or garden cart or wagon to port the battery to where you need it. I could roll the whole mower into my garage.

I have a craftsman 6 HP mower that is only about 6 years old and works very well. So I don't need to go that way right now and by the time the mower gives up I probably will be as well.  So don't think I will get to use one even though that would be my choice right now.

Hey Bob!

(Just a decaf right now Janie)

I have a battery electric lawn mower and I love it!  Yes it is heavy, but not that much more than a same sized gas mower.  I have a Black and Decker that is also self propelled.  I can just walk behind it and get some exercise.  If i had it to again I would have bought one from Worx if only because i found there is a nearby dealer who i have dealt with many times before.  For a small to medium lawn they are great.  It costs me about 10 to 12¢ to mow the lawn.....  No gas, no oil, no pull, pull, pull to get get it started.  Mine, even if the battery is too low to do more mowing still has plenty of power to move it to the shed for charging under its own power.  I have a little over an eighth of an acre to mow.  I usually have to recharge the battery once to get it all done.  I use the mulching setting which uses a quite a bit more power......  I also let the lawn get way to high between mowings.  Mowing lawn gets in the way of the hobby you know!

Bob,

We have a Gardena electric reel mower. The motor only drives the reel so it turns at a constant speed so just having to turn the reel the charge lasts a long time. We use a grass catcher for the clippings. We've had it for about 6 years and find it great for a small yard but it can't handle long grass very well so you need to be sure to mow often. It is very quiet . We really like it and I would recommend one for a small lawn.
