Hi Gang,

May have to burn the place down and collect insurance money for the LM&E.  Just kidding Gang, don't go and call the Arson Squad now...

.

Johnboy out................................................

Call the Arson Squad? I was thinking of buying some tickets. Ya know a nice cozy fire, place going up in flames, ahhh

I once jokingly tried to convince him to put bent grass in all over the lawn so it would be one big green, He took it seriously. That would have been some hard work.

Been working on my Rivarossi/Athearn U25C. It's now a Frankenstein. The original SD45 trucks proved to have a lot of wear and were somewhat unreliable to say the least. So I took them apart and in looking at the gears thought they might fit in a pair of SD9 dummy trucks. Next question was will the trucks from the SD9 fit on a SD45 frame? The answer to both question is yes. So using parts from the 90's era SD9 trucks and the 70's era SD45 trucks I built a working pair of SD9 power trucks and they fit right into the SD45 frame. The drive shafts and worms are in place. All I have to do is wire it up and put the decoder in.

By the Way, has anyone heard from Packer this year ??  It is like he fell off the Planet.

Last heard from him three days ago. He posts on my forum two or three times a week.

Hi Gang,

Chloe, I think I'll try a Dr. Pepper float this afternoon.

Well, Spring must be near, if you guys were around here today, you would have found me banding four trees against Cancer Worms,  swept the driveway and filling bird feeders.   (Rob would be proud)

Think I'll rest for a spell and then at 4:30 we have a bit of a clean up crew to do some spring cleaning at our Church for a couple of hours.  Then back to work for the week-end in the morning. Fri, Sat, Sun.

No time for this retired guy to get some work / fun time in on the old railroad.

Not that I needed them, ( my wife tells me )  but I picked up two WP boxcars and a TS. Boxcar as a unit buy.  One is a Kadee Car, never had one of them before, an Athern Genisis and a Branchline Blueprint.  They all look new in box, if used at all very minimal  They look and operate great. Even with shipping included it was far below their retail price

Speaking of Wasps and Bees etc., last summer I had a nest of wasps at one end and a hive at the other underneath a closed in porch on a rental house that we have.  The entrance to this area was from underneath the front steps that was blocked by two huge globe cedars.  After much digging I finally got them out of the way with my 3/4 ton GMC 4x4. But there was no way I was going in there on my hands and knees with tri-focals to boot and try and do anything. Blindfold  So I called the local exterminator and for $100.00 the problem was solved. Best 100.00 I have spent in a long time.. My only hope now is that they don't try to do it again this year.  May have to burn the place down and collect insurance money for the LM&E.  Just kidding Gang, don't go and call the Arson Squad now...

All you Guys who seem to be overdoing it, BACK OFF a little, take it easy, be kind to yourselves,  I'm thinking here of Fellas that we all know well. Like Galaxy, Rob, Jeff and even Ray seems to get pretty wrapped up at times.  Your health is #1 and you are the ones to make sure it says #1.

For our Students here, we are nearing the end of another year for you, so work and study hard those "Finals" are not that far off and we are expecting great results to be reported to us. We will be planning a luau  (spelling ??)  at the ol' Diner here in celebration of your success.    It has been reported by the planning committee that the waitresses and Sue will be wearing GRASS SKIRTS  and will be doing the Hula .

By the Way, has anyone heard from Packer this year ??  It is like he fell off the Planet.

Got to get ready to go to the Church, so I'll leave you with this thought........................................

Well, I went down to my parents place this morning to mow the grass. It was already sprinkling a little and I hoped it would stop soon. Tractor wouldn't start, just a sick sounding click. Disconnected the cables and cleaned the battery terminals then put the charger on the battery at 55 amps for a quick charge. Cleaned the battery cable ends while I waited. Got the cables back on the battery and gave the key a turn. After a few cranks it fired up. By now the sprinkle had stopped and I commenced to mow the yard. Took a few hours but I got it done. Rain was trying to start up again as I put the tractor away. As I got off of it I already knew something was wrong. My arms and legs felt like rubber, I was getting dizzy while standing and my vision was shifting between color and black and white. My parents weren't home but I went into the house anyway and got one of my father's root beer drinks. That would hold me over until I got home. Once home I fixed a rice and pasta dish. Lots of starch for quick energy and the pasta would supply energy later. I feel much better now but my arms are still tingling like they're half asleep. Think I'll just rest the rest of the day. Supposed to be Storm later and StormLightning tomorrow.

Italian roast coffee in a   BNSF  mug, please.

***Ray & Todd, plenty of harmless mud daubers here on the ol' farm. As for hornets, when they nest around the barn or even contemplate doing so around the house, it's War! And on the rare occasion I find a yellow jacket site, they get it to. And although carpenter bees never bother people or critters, they do a lot of damage to structures over many years, so once in a great while I'll play tennis or seal them in with wood putty. Whistling

Well, best head down to the barn and get the minimum requirements behind me. It's a rest and relax "train room" day here for me.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

Howdy again!

Zoe, more dark roast coffee please........

LSWrr
Ray good luck with that; I’ve never cut my grass before Easter or after Thanksgiving until this season.  I had to cut my grass in the first part of December 2011 and I cut it again March 15, 2012 due to the mild temps.

Since I don't have a "She who must be obeyed", I can just let it grow......Whistling  New mower (battery Electric) will walk through fairly high grass so it will wait until the end of next week.  Has slowed down growing quite a bit with the more seasonable weather at the moment!

Later!

Mornin' everyone,

Zoe, I'll have the #2 Special, over easy on the eggs, bacon, home fries, and a double order of sour dough toast.  Oh and keep the dark roast coffee coming!

Currently 37°F under cloudy skies and a bit of heavy dew falling this morning here in the Finger Lakes.  Supposed to clear early this afternoon, but the high will be a seasonable 42°.   The average for this day around here is 47° so this is normal.  Of course tomorrow night we are to have another hard freeze.  With fruit trees already in blossom, I feel very bad for the fruit growers around here. Sad

This afternoon I will meet with an old friend and we will be finishing the measuring of the coal dump.  One of the NMRA members in the division who is also one the RR history buffs at the R&GV RR Museum has been finding quite a bit of information about the RRs in Canandaigua including a set of city maps online from the early 1900s.  No wonder I haven't been getting anything done around here! Whistling

Todd, yep, I only worry about paperwasps and yellowjackets when they nest on the house and in my lawn....  Mud Daubers are, as you said, docile critters and will leave people alone.  I have had several people here last year who were terrified seeing the Bumble Bees working the bean vines.  Telling them that they won't bother anyone and just ignore them gets one a "this man is crazy" look as they run away!  Actually I like to have paper wasps around as long as they don't nest where they are a problem as they are insectivores and help keep the bad bugs to a minimum.

Best get myself moving.  have to do a couple loads of wash and a few other things before gathering materials and heading to Canandaigua.

Later!

Good morning. It's 64° and partly cloudy with dense fog. The high will be 80° and it'll be mostly cloudy with a 40% chance of rain.

Possibility of rain this afternoon and tomorrow? Guess I better get the grass cut this morning. No other plans today.

Good Morning!! Coffee and the Brakeman’s special over medium and whole wheat please. Thanks.

pssst.... Who’s Laura?

A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 69.

(head hung low) I did it.

(perks up)  Bright side is I have the three happiest women in the world right here in Williamsville. Yup. My wife, the lady who lives to the North, and the one who lives to the south. I mowed my yard. Well actually the front yard and the sides. Their husbands, the traitors, mowed this weekend when I was busy and, yes, away from the fort. Shane, the guy to the south was caught red handed by yours truly upon my return as he was filling the tank. He shrugged and I said…you too? He shrugged again. It's things like that that make life more difficult around here. Grumpy

I Ran out of lawn bags too. The Village had to come by TWICE just to haul thAT away. Weeeell, they came by on their rounds to pick up the lawn bags, (our village provides that service free as a compromise for the great burning ban of a few years ago. They haul the yard waste down by the lake and …..burn it. Go figure) and I was still filling a bag when they were there so I guess on the way out they just swung by to pick up what they knew would be there. But I like my version better. Police Chief was on duty yesterday and gave the thumbs up as he drove by just as I was getting started. Yes we have a Police Chief. Someone has to be in charge of the two and besides it justifies the extra 50 cents an hour. I say he put the Village People on alert that I would be mowing today and to get the truck warmed up because the bags would be cascading out into the street causing safety issues. Kinda like getting special service. I like that. You don’t get that kind of treatment in a big city boy I tell you what.

Back yard is taller due to the fertilizing the dog gives it and is bigger so I’m thinking it’ll take a while and a few more bags. The mighty John Deere has to go slow in that wilderness. Might have to take them down to the burn pile myself.

Yes Ray, I removed the Mud Dauber nest from the door frame this year. For Brenda’s sake. I keep telling her Mud Daubers are fine. They pretty much leave you alone and are no issue. Paper Wasps are a bit different in attitude but a Mud Dauber you can pretty much house train if you were willing to take the time. (ok so the last part I made up). None the less the housing complex that has been used for the last two years, has been torn down. Of course they’ve just move into the bird house on a stick on the front porch, but she hasn’t realized it yet. (sssssshhhhh)

Ken- Actually in addition to the 2-4d I’d spot use the Round up like Ray said on the thistle If you’r careful you won’t kill too much around it. Just get in close and give it a good dose.

Still waiting for a phone call asking when can we bring the countertops out. I can hardly wait. I am tired of living like this.

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Chamomile tea in a  CSX  mug, please. A tribute to all those cool CSX locos I saw earlier today.

Looks like some of you folks have been busy.

This dang pectoral issue has acted up again, so tomorrow is going to be a mandatory rest day. Perhaps mowing the pasture the other day and pitching hay over a fence aggravated it. The one upside is I'll be running "cleaning trains" tomorrow.

Have a good night all.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, I'll have a nice big slice of the "High Fructose Corn Syrup" pie and a ... What?  Oh it has cherries in it too?  How nice.  Now I can pretend it is good for me....  Oh, and a cup of decaf as well.  Thank you Ma'am!

As of 10PM tonight, the two yards in Kanandaqua on the layout are hooked together by rail!  Had another broken curved turnout.  This one I remember breaking while removing the old track. I was fixable so it will still be used.  W*rks fine.

Jeffrey, looks like the billboard needs some repairs.....

Several of the neighbors were out mowing the lawn today!  I still refuse tio get out the contraption until April!!!  It can wait!

Think it is time to call it a night.  Prayers to all in need!

Time for me to call it a night. Didn't get much accomplished today other than wiring the MRC Synchro Sound controller into my control panel so I can switch it between ON-OFF and PROGRAM with a single DPDT switch. See y'all tomorrow.

Afternoon, all.

Had the last of my midterms today. Overall, the AP Chem one sucked; AP Lang & Comp was quite good, and Spanish and History were easy well. World Religons, Band, Jazz Band, and Precalc Honors didn't have midterms. Maybe precalc will have one later, but I won't be worried about it. 99% in that class- it's my best class other than band... I don't think anyone has gotten less than 100 in band, though.

Seems everything has been breaking lately. My Golf broke a brake light; luckily I didn't get pulled over. My guitar amplifier has had something go wrong with it- volume dropped off randomly and stayed quiet. I think one of the tubes has gone bad but I don't know enough about amps to know exactly what the problem is.

Oh, that and I broke five drum sticks yesterday. Five. F-I-V-E. They all decided to go in one day. Obnoxious.

CUDAKEN: How's your charger doing now? You've had that same pic in your avatar for ages- has it ever had a hood on? Haha. Beautiful car. Hopefully some day I can get one!

Good Evening,

Ken, the grass patch stuff is Scott's EZ Seed. It works but as noted it costs a lot.

Seamonster, I was referring to Ware House Hobbies on Rouge Road. They don't have much N stuff though. Elmwood Hobbies has by far the most N and the prices aren't too bad.

Tom, those CVR's are nice. Best selling SUV in Canada, again re-inforcing our thrifty side but it likely has more to do with the price of gas here which is about $4.50/ gallon. When I had to replace my 2000 Volvo S70 last year I intended to get something even more economical but shiny paint, and power seduced me so I wound up with a Volvo S80. Still for a six it gets high 30's on the highway which is as good as the old car but it is harder on gas around town, but not by too much.

Well soon time for NCIS, (thanks Todd/Ken) so I better sign off.

Evenin' folks!  Hi Gerry, Rob...

Chloe, I'll have the BBQ Chicken, Cornell Recipe please, Baked Potato w/ chives and sour cream, and  trip to the salad bar tonight. I'll order desert later, but could use a cup of decaf with the meal.  Thank you Ma'am.

Been kinda quiet around here today I see.

I did a bit of shopping, answered a bunch of emails, and managed to get myself down cellar to the layout.  Put in a new curved turnout (Shinohara) replacing one the handyman broke when he installed the backdrop for me.... Grrrr.  Actually I moved where the turnout is placed which will lessen the curve to the siding it serves, so it will be a good change.  I also connected a couple short pieces of rail to hook it to the other two turnouts I installed yesterday (Fast Tracks).  then I added the ties under the rails.  Two ties are the PC Board ties that will hold the rail in gauge.  I should have them gauged and soldered this evening.

I got official permission to drive up near the old coal dump to finish measuring it.  The president of the trail group is going to meet me there and let me drive in.  An old High School friend who is now the County Historian is going to go over with me and help.  If anyone can find out more information about the structure, he can.

Catch you all later!

Evening at the diner 3/28/12
Posted by galaxy on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 4:08 PM

Evening

Dinner will be cheap steaks,  rice-a-roni {the San Francisco treat [Ding DIng}} and asparagus tips and pieces.

It is 67* at the airport high on the hill and a balmy  74* here at my house. Inside got up to 74* so I had to turn on the AC.

But tomorrow is to be cooler. Highs in the high 50s most of the week, though, still warm{er} for this time of year I think....

My back has had it from shopping this AM. Just when it was starting to feel better from the injections...

HAve a great evening....

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.

Hello everybody, just thought I'd check in...Yes a diet coke laura...thanks.

Stourbridge Lion-stay safe. A few years back there was a vety large forest fire just south of me in grayling MI. It got very close to the town, and shut down I-75 for a while. Eventually the railroad (LSRC) was found responsible for the fire.

Terry- Sounds like your son is having fun. I've considered the Rangers( stepping stone into SF). If I can't get an NROTC scholarship for the Marines, I will probaly do an ROTC for the army and join the rangers, and maybe, just maybe, join SF

MINRail (Minessota Rail Transportaion Corp.) - "If they got rid of the weeds what would hold the rails down?"

And yes I am 17.
