JR- There's no issue. The people here have given me great modeling tips and how to info which have greatly improved my layout and simplified the building process. To be honest I never thought about putting in a mineWhistling(kind ofDunce when I like to model the coaling industry as much as I do). But in my defense the coaling tower was going to be just another siding initially but as I modeled more and ran ops more I found I really enjoyed it.  I did not put in storage tracks because I was afraid I would repeat the previous problem of too much in not enough area. I guess you can say it is what it is.Smile

I know the feeling ALL TO WELL...remember last September was NOT a fun time here either with massive major flooding that broke over flood walls and through dikes!!!! and people cringed for 3 months and put out HIT CONTRACTS on him/her after every time weather man/woman said "RAIN".!!!

I was just saying, I was hoping you were OK!!! Wink

Yeah, I remember the flooding up there. Saw a lot of that on CNN and Fox. As for being OK, I'm doing just fine. Some of the neighbors look kind of shell shocked after having flood water in their homes.

Good morning, Chloe.  I will take a large coffee in this back booth by the stove.  Let's see who isn't working today.

You guys are very alert.  In my fog this morning, I didn't notice that the empties were on the dump track, and the loaded cars were on the loco tracks.  The loaded cars could be temporarily staged for dumping next.

Well, I was right about my taxes.  We get to pay a big chunk to the IRS.  Last year was our last to itemize.  Ouch.

On a different note, I finished my quilt in time for the info meeting on the next one this afternoon.  It will start on the 9th.  I plan to work on my car shop today.  I think I will run out of scale 1 x 4's.   Since we no longer have hobby shops in our area that carry scale lumber,  I will have to place an order.  Our not so LHS closed last year.  Scratch building is a serious project.  I have been spoiled with kits.

Good morning. It's 57° and partly cloudy with fog. The high will be 80°.

No plans for today except to work on the layout and run some trains. Sounds like a plan to me.

Morning All,

Not much planned here, just some packing. We leave out of here at 8 AM tomorrow and return on the 31st.

I guess I should  have had full cars in the shed to show what I was trying to show. No plans for a coal mine at this point-maybe sometime in the future. Now I start out in the yard either loaded or unloaded, run a couple of laps around the layout then into the tower and just reverse it leaving. The only place that would work for the mine would probably be the existing farm area.

Everyone take care.

Well, well,well.

MOH worked Wed until 9:30 Pm at the stoer, which is in a  questionable neighborhood right in downtown. And somewhere between then and Noon on THursday, someone slashed the rear passenger tire!!! Only it was a slow leak slash, so when discovered and fix-a-flat applied, it stopped it enough until getting to the Firestone dealer this Early AM. $132.00 later....

WEll, Well, Well. I said report it to your boss as MOH's old dept. boss actually CAUGHT two guys stealing her license plates in the same parking lot in broad Daytime!!!

Hope Jeffrey is Ok saw last night they had some more of those nasty Lightning storms down Weezy-anna and Mrs. Sippi way...Posta kinda clip us later today I guess, but nothing major.

Well. well. well.

Have a great morning!!!

Good Morning All,

Top of the mornin and top of the pagee - I'll have a regular, a small o.j. and the sunrise special please Zoe. Credit cards on file right?

51F and cloudy out this morning. May get some of Jeffs' rain today - we'll see. Undertaking the great reordering of our personal truck stop this morning. We now have three 53ft semi trailers with lift gates and the Kenworth toterhome with 45ft gooseneck plus three covered tags in the shop parking lot. That plus the 40ft container and employee and project cars and - instant gridlock. Putting some of the rigs next door for storage along with the tags and thinking of moving some of the projects along as well. Ah well - it's always something. For the record, I own one tag, the Kenworth toter and gooseneck and the oldest of the 53ft liftgates. The rest are owned by clients.

Went to the basement last night and discovered someone is making a model railroad layout down there. Oh it was me? Yeah I vaguely remember now. Spent some time cleaning and planning the next move and generally refamiliarizing myself. Now to make some progress.

Curt - Ken Ray etc. I thought the incoming coal got dumped in the shed and sent down the grate to the lifter which stored the stuff in the big wooden box then dumped it down the external chutes into whatever tender was sitting under the chute. Did I miss something? Fulls in, empties out, tenders ready to go, no? All Curt is lacking is the actual coal mine and sub yard to get said coal into the hoppers. When I get that far my coal mine will be a hidden siding off the main from which the full cars will emerge to deliver to the power plant, coal dealer and rail yard.

Todd - I always enjoy your splainin' but my wise old granpappy once said "When you find yourself in a hole, first thing to do is stop digging".Wink

Hope the rest of you have a good day. Glad Jefferey was able to cancel the order for the ark.   J.R.

Good Morning!! Just coffee please. Thanks. Ugh. I nuked a IHOP frozen breakfast scramble crunchy….thing. Did what I usually do on the instructions, split the difference between their range of minutes, but this time SurpriseWHOA! Nuclear meltdown or something. Too much radiation make for a crispy critter. What’s that Flo? Of course I ate it. Be a waste of food if I didn’t’s what my Momma woulda said.

A slight chance of showers before 7am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 7am and 1pm, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 1pm. Areas of dense fog before 10am. High near 69. South southeast wind between 3 and 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Tongue TiedNow….., wouldn’t you say it’d been a lot quicker just to say "pretty much a chance of showers and thunderstorms all day" ?

J.R.- I was not aware of the time it takes. I admit I’m ignorant on that subject. BUT, I do agree that 5 years seems like a long time. I’m pretty sure these people didn't even have temporary cards. Just visiting bathroom passes or something. Of course we assume a lot (and you know what that means don’t you), some may not be from China at all. May have been born right here and they may just be able to do the accent as well as I and give that cute little quizzical look of non-comprehension followed by a smile and then some totally unrelated response. Tongue Tied

Shoot, in five years those folks could learn basic understanding of English, learn the constitution and become a citizen. What would it hurt. They’re already here making money. Well at least earning it. That one business wasn’t exactly forthcoming to their workers with full wages. Of course some names and numbers over the years had different faces and they sure seemed to vary in age from what was reported to the feds. This way they can get full wages AND a car so they won‘t have to ride to work in the van anymore. YEEEEHAAAAWWW! Now she can pick her own toothpaste out on her first trip to a WalmartYes. A dream come true in itself. The minty kind too. Ahhh the American dream. What a deal.

Oh Galaxy- Tonic water?!Ick! Blaaaach! Glad the injections are starting to kick in. We rarely get the savings coupons you get. Not whining, just saying. Very rarely does anyone offer any incentive involving fuel discounts. Only thing close is the truck stop across the highway giving “discount” for cash on diesel. Actually though, it’s not a discount as much as it’s higher to use credit.

Jim- We are lucky to be right off the interstate and the traffic is good enough that the sundry sales keep the gas prices competitive. Actually, we run the same as the less expensive parts of Springfield so there is no reason to travel for any savings on gas because it’s simply not there. Like I said, the looks of a couple cents is good. The actual savings is nil IF you have to travel any distance whatsoever. A block or two, maybe. A mile, nope. Let alone 10. Laugh No, no, no. I just joke about that stuff. No chance of us getting a Hop Sing. HmmHmmm. I don’t know though, the dog haaas been sleeping on the couch here lately so her room isn’t used as much. Big Smile Did I mention she looks good in black? Oh, reeeeeal good. (chuckle)

Gabeusmc- I wouldn’t have made that statement normally as the guys who’ve been around me here already know that. However, there are new folks that show up and some folks who stop by and never say anything and they don’t know me as well as some so from time to time I’ll kinda explain myself and then they may say “oh, I see.” But, yes I’ve become acquainted with many ethnicities over my life in the military and I have come to the conclusion that, though not true for all (can you say Ukranian.Black Eye Whoa boy), most see the humor in most what I say and they also return the ribbing. Nothing actually in what I say is generally specific to one stereotyped race other than the accent and manner of speech I use. You could sub any ethnic group in there and it would fit. They know I have no ill feelings for any race and often poke fun at my own as we United Statsians have just as much to be poked fun about if not more. After all I do believe it was us that started that whole pants down around your knees thing. One of the things I say is we already have a National language. We’ve been working on that for years and it's a work in progress. A living breathing creation much like Frankensteins Monster or Lady Gaga.  It’s really not English, it’s United Statsian English. Where we take the English language, change the meaning of some words, make up some ourselves, absolutely destroy the pronunciation of most, swipe a few other words from every language out there othern Chinese actually, then destroy the pronunciation of them and pile it all together, make up rules of English that, well just don’t apply, and call it “proper”. There done. All this between mandatory breaks, lunch hours, texting messages and lengthy discussions over why doing something is “not my job”.

Welp, Brenda stopped me from taking the sink out yesterday, she had things in the dishwasher she wanted washed first so….sink comes out today and mudding commences. Then w**k for pay.

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!! Surprise

I'll have a double helping of the Insomniac's Special, please.

All is quite here, except for the occasional Great Pyrenees barking at who knows what. Looks like potential for severe weather tomorrow. YeeHaw!

***Curt, really like the work you've done on that layout. I too am curious how the colaing tower is loaded? Especially since I have a couple of those I might be using on my N layout here.

Well, time to try again. Good night all.

 Evening Dinners!

 Flo, Beer Please.

Dang I am tired. When I got to work it was raining and it was dead. Sun came out and we got slammed! Got the last customer out the door around 9:45 PM. Had a good day dollar wise, I did $3600.00 and boy I needed it.

I am getting a hair cut Friday. More for the fact that Dave likes it hot in the show room. Cannot make it colder than 78 degrees. Today I could feel sweat dripping down the back of my neck and I was just standing there!

Uh Curt How do you get the coal up into the coal tower? Whistling

 Later, Ken

Jeff,  So, did you think the Frankenstein GeeP's would have been up to that challenge if you hadn't stopped things in time? Wink

Well, we wouldn't have found out from THOSE geeps because they weren't the Frankensteins. Those were the Bachmann GP7's (permanently mu'd set). They may have been up for the challenge. The two GP7's together can move a big load. The Frankenstein geeps are GP9's (another permanently mu'd set) with Walther's Trainline shells. One has a Walther's frame with a Mashima motor and Stewart trucks, Proto 2000 drive shafts, Athearn worms and generic Blomberg side frames. The other has a front Range frame, Mashima motor, Proto 1000 trucks and Athearn drive shafts and worms. Both the GP7's and the GP9's are equipped with Digitrax DZ125 decoders.

Evening, Chloe, I'll have a hot fudge brownie sundae and a Rio Grande mug of coffee, please. Thankyou!

Jeff, good to hear that your area got a break from the rain (and time to drain the boat). So, did you think the Frankenstein GeeP's would have been up to that challenge if you hadn't stopped things in time? Wink

Gabe, I've been accused of having that hearing problem your hearing doc told you that you have. Whistling How's your school load this semester? Heavy enough to keep you busy, but not heavy enough that you can't get some MRR'ing in, right?

Ray - what's a microwave toady? Some kind of gizmo to attach to your microwave? Smile, Wink & Grin Good to hear your good news (and hope you can juggle the funds you'll need for your new set of "ears". Mzmbhnanblugh... Oh, nothing. Devil On the microwave, you'll probably be like me - you'll pretty quickly learn what you need to use most often (quick-on or how to set the timer - but do learn how to reset the clock, for those times when the power either goes out or blinks for a second or two...). Or have one of your granddaughters show you how! Whistling

Curt, thanks for posting the photos of your coaling area. Is that a coal dealer in the bottom right corner? Looks like they're running a bit low on their stock. Wink Ah, I see from your other photo that it is a coal dealer.

Matt, it's good indeed that you have that VW, especially since you're paying your own gas bill. Thumbs Up Of course, any time you have a car full of your buddies, the extra weight can drag down the mileage (that's why when I was a kid, whoever drove would take up a collection from the riders...). I had to go lookup airsofting. Thanks for helping me learn something new. Sounds like a little less messy cousin of paintball, eh? (Or am I seriously off on that one?)

Today I've been going through my emails, and consolidating the imported stuff with the others I already had on this drive. Next will be to run a script I have that will check a folder (or multiple ones) for duplicates and move the extras to a "Duplicate Messages" folder which I can double-check and then delete any extras. I figure in a few weeks I may (if I'm lucky) have all my data files consolidated (maybe...). Then I might even have some additional room on my drive. Smile

Tomorrow, I'm supposed to get lunch with my buddy Mark (not the same one as Hoople). He w**ks at a farm up the road from his place. I think the other farm is either a dairy one or a feed lot operation, pretty much family-owned. Mark says that he pushes "stuff" around (the stuff that drops out of the back end of a cow - hope that doesn't set off the alarms in the Forum software..Whistling) We'll go get lunch and visit some in the middle of the day, before he has to go back for the evening part of his shift. His is probably one of the least-fun types of split shifts - I think he goes in about 5:00 or 5:30 in the morning (before dawn, pretty sure), so when he gets done in the evening, he has to hit the sack to get some Zzz's before it's time to get up again. Plus, Mark has a handful of cattle himself at his farm. I'll have to go find a photo I have of his place that he sent me, and post it some time tomorrow.

Prayers for a good night's rest for all you Diners, continued healing for those (Diners, family members and friends) in need of it, good drainage of any rain in your areas, and some chance for a bit of MRR time this weekend for you. AngelAngel

I'll be at the RC with my dessert and my coffee for a little longer.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape G.

Evenin' all!

I'll have the ribs and a coke. Gotta love RIBS!

Not sure if y'all made enough posts in the day that I didn't read. Three and a half pages worth? Wow! I guess I'll have to stop in more often.

Ended the week from school early today- no school tomorrow. Teacher's are off doing a retreat or something. A bonus to going to Catholic high school, I suppose?

Regarding GAS prices, I must say they are quite expensive but honestly I can't complain. I'm very lucky to have my aunts 2004 VW Golf hatchback as my car and it gets outstanding mileage. I probably fill up once a month or so, on average. If I do any longer distance driving, say, to go airsofting with my mates, then it does start to rack up a bit of a bill but still, 30 MPG+ from that little VW. And it's a clown car! At one of my band's shows I had to transport our gear and I was able to fit two halfstacks, two people, and my drumkit... it's like a really big 3d game of tetris in there.

That's all for today.

Evenin'!

Janie just another cup of decaf for me.

Actually decided to check and see if the layout is still where I left it several days ago.....  It was.  Decided to do a little misting of the backdrop before i put the paints and drop cloths away.  This time on an old section where I missed doing the lighter shade near the horizon when I first painted it several years ago. Now at least it looks like the rest of the room.

Curt Webb

Ray- Is that the cost for a hearing aid or ear surgery?

Curt, that is for the pair of hearing aids....  Actually considerably cheaper than the old ones.  The pair I am wearing at the moment were $7.500+ when I bought them close to 8 years ago.  When the technology was brand new for that type of aid (about 15 years ago) they were $7,500 each!  Surgery?  I'd be talking $64,000 for one ear to have an implant...  Not covered at all by insurance as it is an elective procedure.  They would do it anyway as they say us old musicians hate them as everything sounds like an out of tune piano and you have to relearn how to hear....  That is reserved for people who have never heard sounds, best done early in life.

BTW, Curt, I am trying to figure out why you are unloading coal at the coal tower and then reloading the coal into other coal cars on the other track.....????  Just wondering? Smile, Wink & GrinLaugh

Later!

Thanks. Actually it's an SW1500 (1966-1974). The MP15 came later (1974-1980). There are several notable differences.

Evening All,

Flo can I have a cup of Decaf please. Had a very nice meal of slow cooked pork chops.

Had a chance to run a couple of locos (44 T & H10-44) that I don't run very often today. The 44 T really didn't want to do much initially but after about 10 minutes there was no issues with it. I ran my new RS-1 (DC) a little but I am always afraid that I'm going to fry the motor on a DCC system.

Jeff- Take care of your shoulder.

Ray- Is that the cost for a hearing aid or ear surgery?

Everybody take care of yourself.

Evenin' folks!

Chloe, I'll have the grilled BBQ chicken, and baked potato (with lots of sour cream), and a trip to the salad bar for supper tonight.  Keep my cup filled with decaf if you would my dear.  Thank you!

gabeusmn, I know several people of all ages that suffer from what you had......  They are also those people who would never ever let anything called facts influence their beliefs.....

Had my Hearing Exam earlier today.  Actually the folks over there are very nice and it isn't a bad procedure.... I just always think ity will show I hear even less each time I have it done.  The good news is my hearing hasn't changed at all in the last 3 years...  The bad news is, it hasn't improved at all in the last 3 years either....  Didn't expect it would!  I will be getting the "in the ear" type again as the behind the ear won't do any better with my hearing loss....  Drops off very fast after 4000Hz.  Which is why everyone seems to mumble when they talk to me.Whistling  The other bad news is I interpreted the pricing wrong and thought the total would be just over $5,000 after the discount I got by calling them ($750) when they were advertising nit.  I get the discount but the price quoted to me included the discount...  The good news is I will get a 2% discount on top of THAT for paying cash!  Saves me $115....  So I now have to come up with $5,625 two weeks from now to take the new ones home with me!  I can do THAT by juggling a few funds around....

Also got the new microwave toady...  Sad you can't buy kitchen items today that aren't more complicated than aerospace calculations.  What used to be a simple push a couple buttons now requires several years of calculus to master......

Catch you later!

James,

It's the Tasman Revival - usually about 200 vintage and historic race cars. We want to bring a Lotus 23 sports racer and a Chevron B-17B formula car. Should be good fun.

Time to head out. Got most of my roll hoop stuff done but need to think a couple of things through before I go to the next step.    CUL, J.R.

James - We're to go to Oz this December. When does all the weather fun usually start? First venue will be Eastern Creek then on to Ruapuna in New Zealand if all goes according to plan. We'll use a 40ft container to ship the cars and support equipment and use it as a garage during the trip(s).

December is normally the start of our wet season, although it can be pretty wet thru November. Since I see you're heading to Sydney I'll look into more specifics   Sydney shouldn't be too bad in December, especially western sydney. It's normally pretty dry out there. As for NZ it could have Aussie weather or it could be UK weather, if you know what I mean. Big Smile

Ruapuna is Christchurch, right?  according to Google it is. Wink

Whats the event in December at Eastern Ck? I might come down and have a look! (it's only 1000km.)

Ray- I actually had a hearing test a few years ago, parents thought I was having a hard time hear, it runs in the Family. Passed with flying colors. Doc told me I had a diesase common to young men, "and old men too" he said, " You have Selective hearing" Laugh I hope doc says the same thing to you, good luck.Angel

Sir madog- looks like a good plan to me.
