LOL!! Wow, that IS impressive!

Jeremy B. , got your PM but my computer won't let me reply, so I'll do it here. The coal came in a smallish plastic factory sealed bag in some stuff I got off evilbay some time age. No idea the maker, no writing at all. If I had to guess I'd say Life-like. It looks like the same packaging on some of their other scenery stuff.

Judging by your description I'd say either Bachmann or Life-Like. I had a couple of Bachmann kits many years ago that had small unmarked bags of coal.

LOL!! Wow, that IS impressive!

If you're referring to David's post, he woke me up this morning. I had to teach him something he can use when he starts on his layout, whenever that is, and I had to show him that it needn't take a long time if you know what you're doing.

I seem to recall having some loose bags flapping around from them as well. There was a company up here that also did that sort of thing with coal but I can't remember who actually made it up here...

Evening All,

Went to the club but came home early because it was packed. Since I can run at home I don't have the patience for it any more. Don't get me wrong, they are great guys but I don't enjoy sitting at signal after signal.

I repainted the mountain this morning and put the same ground cover as the rest on it so it looks cohesive to my eye now. I came home and ran a passenger train for about 30 minutes before I got frustrated. One car kept derailing coming out of the tunnel (no issues 2 weeks ago) and one of the signals needs readjusted. Ah the joys of the hobby. I will mess with it next week.

Future projects: 1-Build another coaling tower for extension. 2- Build frame work for extension. 3. Build coal loads for 42 coal cars.

Everybody have a good night.

Time for me to call it a night. It's been a busy day starting with a busy morning. I added sheets of lead to to thirteen freight cars with them held in each car with brass screws. I spent an average of four and a half minutes on each car with a gap between cars only long enough to cut a piece of lead sheet, get a couple of screws and pop open the next car. Ten boxcars/reefers, one thrall car, two covered hoppers. I had an audience of one so I did the absolute best I could in as little time as possible.

See y'all tomorrow.

Been a busy here in these parts.  Spent much the evening out at my Son's house.  Birthday party for an uncle.  Had a nice spaghetti and meatball dinner followed by cake and ice cream and wonderful company  (especially two little granddaughter who i love dearly!).  My son didn't get home until late as he had to work today.

Guess I will go take a nap by the stove......

Everybody is welcome in the Diner!
Posted by Heartland Division CB&Q on Saturday, February 4, 2012 10:40 PM

Good Evening!

Good to see everybody. Looks like February is off to a good start in the diner with lots of good pictures and plenty of model railroad activity.

Barry ... Progress Rail (Caterpillar) has a facility in Mayfield, KY not far from here where they are rebuilding locomotives. Much of the work is to upgrade form Amtrak F40's for suburban train service. It's a low budget operation, and unions are not welcome there.

Our visit with our daughter and her husband in AZ was very nice. It was sunny and mid 70 F each day.

Travel was on Frontier Airlines, our first and most likely las experience with that airline. Seats on the planes were not at all comfortable. We flew from Phoenix to Nashville yesterday changing planes in Denver. Denver was having lots of snow causing flights to be late or cancelled. We were 2 hours late arriving in Nashville. We staye with Nashville family until this afternoon.

Here are pictures from the Arizona Railway Museum in Chandler, AZ.

First .... A CB&Q E8 ! .... It's not in original condition and it has no lettering, but it is a Burlington E8. I rode behind many Burlington E8's in my younger years.

Second .... A Santa Fe Super Chief "Pleasure Dome". My Dad took our family to Los Angeles from Chicago in the late 1950's on the Super Chief. I recall riding in a dome car just like this one. Possibly this is the same car. This car is not in original condition either.

Third ..... A UP RR buiness car lettered "Central Pacific".

Here is a link to AZ Ry Museum home page .....

GOOD MORNING!!!

Today is Sunday, February 5th, 2012!!!

Start your morning off with a relaxing look at the Sunday paper!!!

February -- month of Februa

Middle English Februarius
Latin Februarius "of Februa"
Latin Februa(s) "Februa" + -arius "ary (pertaining to)"
Latin Februarius mensis "month of Februa"
Latin dies februatus "day of purification"

Februarius had 28 days, until circa 450 BC when it had 23 or 24 days on some of every second year, until Julius when it had 29 days on every fourth year and 28 days otherwise.

Februa is the Roman festival of purification, held on February fifteenth. It is possibly of Sabine origin.

Good Morning!! Coffee and since it’s Sunday, my usual. The breakfast buffet please. Thanks.

Patchy fog before 9am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 45. Looks like by Friday we’ll start getting back to more seasonal temps for February at least in the thirties and a twenties. At least for now. Seems this year we’ll not be waiting for the time of year to get the temps, but we’ll be talking of the season coming to match the temps.

Terry- Fantastic layout! Thanks for shearing.

Floor Wars Williamsville: Phase….I lost track - Well, the Kitchen is done. Yup, completely. That makes, the Bathroom, the hall, the entranceway, the living room, the dining room and now the kitchen…, all done. Flooring laid trim work done, everything. So far my New Years resolution of completing one thing before moving on to something else is still goodYes. So far, but the year is youngLaugh. Nevertheless (wow, turns out it is one word),Brenda is just giddy with excitement that one, her floors are getting done, and two, they are getting completely done. Now to do the “oh look there’s an empty place, let’s set er there for now” room. It was the designed laundry room when the house was built, but we moved the laundry room to the basement in the furnace room. The way she leaves piles of clothes, wasn’t no way that would fit in the room they had built. Besides or kitchen size, or lack of size, is only rivaled by Jeffrey. We use the closet as a pantry, and the laundry room will get actual cabinets for proper storage instead of just that wire shelf and a…..thing to set stuff on with a drawer for her aluminum foil and wax paper rolls and, well, whatever else she can cram in the drawer. The cabinets will come a bit later.

I think after this next room and between the Master Bathroom floor, I will spend some time cleaning up Toddland ( of which I’m king) as it is getting nasty. For those new folks who aren’t as familiar with the geographical landmarks and their respective names in the diner, Toddland (of which I’m king) is the name of the train room at my house, or more accurately, the as of yet unnamed RR world of which I am attempting to build. What is great about being king of such a world is I can do…. Whatever… I… want! Boooohhahahahaha HA!

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Yes, but to get to Toddland (if which you are king) you must get past the honey-do list of the impress (aka she who must be obeyed) of the territory in which Toddland sits.Laugh

Congratulations, Todd! Well done!

Rob, since it's usually just me running trains I run them in sequence using this chart( kinda hard to see)

Each train has a dedicated staging track ( for through freight and passenger trains ). The 6 local turns ( Superior, Ashland, St. Paul, New Richmond ,Altoona and Rice Lake ) originate and/or end at Spooner yard after their respective trips around the layout, staging where they are held, and back to Spooner. Only the Rice Lake turn services the layout's online towns. If I stop running to do something else, the trains are left where they are with the CC&WB packets along side so I know what train is what. Sounds more complicated than it is.As each train run in the sequence is complete, I move a marker to the next event and run that one, move marker, repeat. You get the idea. It's still a work in progress. As I go through the sequence, I've found bugs. That's why I had to add a seperate staging track for the Altoona (Eau Claire ) turn.

Hope that helps explain it!

Off to church, BBL!

Good morning. It's 45 and mostly cloudy. The high will be 57, cloudy and cooler. There's a 20% chance of showers.

The newly weighted and Kadee converted freight cars will be moved to the paint shop for weathering. They're way to clean considering they range in age from ten to forty some odd years. That's if the weather cooperates as the sealing operation must be done outside. I didn't have the time to get over to Lowe's the other day to get a can of Valspar Clear Flat as I was trying to beat the rain, so I picked up a can of Krylon Matte Finish while I was getting the groceries at Wal-mart. I also got two bottles of Loctite super glue gel whether I needed it or not.

Morning All,

Just sitting here for awhile. I go into w**k at 4 PM today. I think I'm going to do some signage on the layout and try to shoot a layout video today but we will see. I think the high is supposed to be 80 F today and pretty much all week. It looks like the bank has got our checking account fixed and funds replaced after the Chinese fraud.

Garry- Glad you had  a great vacation and are back home safe. During the March spring break MOH, me, our daughter (teacher) and our SIL are doing a cruise out of Miami.

Jeff- You hit the problem many of us have squarely on the head. I had to laugh when I read it.

Terry- I plan on doing something similar when I'm done on  the extension (waiting on TT from Walthers). I found a company (Dallas Model Works) that has several applications for members (free) such as a car card generator and weighting of cars etc., if you are interested. I am not affiliated with them.

Todd- I feel your pain buddy. I went through what you are before I joined the forum. MOH is now talking about putting wood in upstairs. I don't see how that will work with the layout in the loft.

Everyone take care.

From Barry:

Progress Rail Services -- the division of Caterpillar that opened a locomotive plant on Muncie's southwest side in 2011 -- announced Friday it was closing its Electro-Motive Diesel locomotive plant in London, Ontario. Workers at that plant have been locked out since Jan. 1 in a dispute with Caterpillar over wages.....this from...http://www.thestarpress.com/article/20120204/NEWS01/202040337/Caterpillar-closes-locomotive-plant-Canada-jobs-could-move-Muncie-s-Progress-Rail?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|Frontpage%20DontMiss

According to Modelcar the plant had been open and PR was in there for about a year now...seems they were just looking for a reason to close the London plant down. Another poster on this thread...http://cs.trains.com/TRCCS/forums/t/202389.aspx?PageIndex=2 is saying that production will be between Muncie, La Grange Ill, and Mexico....

At Greyhound we went through that Mexican built scenario and believe me it was a disaster. So if that happens my thoughts and prayers go out to our US & Canadian Engineers. I disliked driving those Mexican built coaches. _no insulation ( certainly not built with Canada's climate in mind ) _windows that wouldn't stay in them _corrosion on electrical contacts _ excessive wind noise, it went on and on.Thumbs Down Certainly they were far from the standard of our original MCI equipment made in Winnipeg, Manitoba and Pembina, North Dakota..

Having said that, it may depend on the Company and who has control. As I look at my Son's Avalanche which was made Mexico, it is a fine vehicle, well built and finished.

***Terry, doesn't sound that complicated as you explained it. Plus, such a system would certainly help prevent mishaps out on the rails.Yes

Asa no o tomodachi!

Zoe, start with dark roast coffee....  then I'll head over to the breakfast buffet and see what they got that might be edible.

Quite a bit of activity since I turned off the 'putter last night.  Been catching up before posting.  I managed to over sleep this morning.  Probably needed the Zzz so I am skipping church again this morning.  This is most likely a "Low Sunday" anyway since it is supposedly the #1 Secular Holiday in America today.  Stupid Bowl Sunday or something like THAT.  I'll be celebrating by w*rking in the train room!!! Smile, Wink & Grin

Next step in the train room is to clear out and move the storage shelves under the layout.  I have also decided to remove the backdrop (masonite) THAT didn't turn out THAT good and have sheetrock installed in its place.......  Now remember, all I started out to do was remove the large peninsula in the center of the room..........

Anyone seen the Lion around?  Don't think he has been in for a couple days.  Hope he didn't try petting one of those little kitties he is fond of. Whistling

***Unless a team from AZ., WA., or GA. is playing, I could care less, too. I used to watch for the Budweiser commercials. This year, having cancelled satellite tv, I will not be watching at all. Besides, the commercials can be caught online anyway.

Doing laundry and inside stuff today. Still trying to get motivated for more interesting endeavors, like painting and MRRing. Guess I'll have a coffee refill, please.

Hey,

I got the signal working and changed the track pan day markers, and added a RR Xing sign under the plate girder bridge. I redid my 2 flat cars that carry tanks so they look nicer and lastly I put down ground cover around the last 2 signals that I had forgot to do.

I did do a video. The picture quality was good but for some reason the sound kept cutting out while I was gabbing so I deleted it. I will  try again another time.

Lion- Is that picture your modeling? If so you did a great job.

Rob- Is your ankle feeling better?

I will try to check in later.

Good Evening!

It´s been a boring day. Too cold to go outside, and nothing to do inside! My hands are itching to start work on that little layout, but no money, no layout!

Big Sigh
