Earlier today I took a couple of locos back to my bedroom to place them back in the display rack. After I'd put them back in their places I spotted a Stewart F9 A-B set and realized I had forgotten their address. I looked on the bottom of both locos but it wasn't there. I usually write the address on the bottom. So I took them to the layout to put them on the program track. In short order I had the address on the display. I wrote it on the bottom of the A unit and realized that I'd forgotten what kind of decoders I put in them. I did remember that these locos are a pain to open so I the Zephyr do the investigating. A quick check came back with 101. That was easy enough. 101 is Bachmann. I do remember all the work I put into these to get them operational again. When I got them they both had motor problems and the B unit had a problem in one truck as well. Both have Kato type chassis. The A unit was easy to remotor as I had a good motor that was virtually a drop-in replacement. I put the motor in, tested for shorts then wired in a Bachmann decoder and checked to make sure the address was set at three. That will become clear later. The B unit required more work. So much so that I almost shelved it. However what's life without some adventure and adversity. The motor was useless junk. The front truck had a broken gear in the top of the tower. One side of the shaft was snapped completely off and the gear below it was missing some teeth. It wasn't hard to determine that the broken shaft had fallen down onto the other gear and jammed it and stripped those teeth off. That truck was junk and I didn't have a any spare Kato trucks. I also didn't have a motor to match the old one. It was time to get creative. With a little work and a lot of imagination I fit an Athearn motor into the chassis. As for the trucks, in for a penny - in for a pound. I cut out part of the frame to allow for the installation of a pair of Proto 2000 AAR trucks. Now I've had people tell me this is impossible. Well, it was impossible, until I did it. I'm not saying it was easy. It would have been far easier to slap in an Athearn chassis. But where's the fun in that? It took a lot of work, a lot off adjusting, a lot of cussing, but I finally got the trucks in and mounted so they turned freely and sat at the proper height. I put in Athearn worms and found a pair of shafts that fit. I don't remember what they came out of but they worked. So that was another Frankenstein I could chalk up. I wired everything up, checked for shorts then installed a Bachmann decoder and made sure it was set to three. I got two horn-hook couplers from the junk box and put one on the rear of the A unit and the other on the front of the B unit, coupled them together and wrapped the couplers with aluminum wire so they were permanently coupled. I then soldered wires to the pickups of the A units rear truck and ran the back to the B unit where I soldered them to the pickups of the front truck. The units were now hard-wired together. From there it was to the program track to set a new address. Now you know why I made sure both decoders were set to address three earlier. With the new address set I sent them off on a test run. The test run was successful so I put the shells on them then put them in the display rack and promptly forgot about them. The Stewart F9 shells are so much like the Athearn F7 shells that that's what I thought they were when I looked at them.

G- Already planned on the stove. Saw that coming as soon as the fridge was chosen.
Well, gotta stop for a bit. Yup, imagine that. She wants to go to the grocery store, our usual Sunday buffet, and a quick trip to Menard’s to check something out. Don’t think it’s a stove, more than likely she wants me to pick up another bucket of mortar cause she sees this one won’t make it and if we get one today, that will save me stopping later, and maybe check out some tile for the bathroom. Who knows. All that before sometime so she can get home and get back in town to go play Bingo with her Mother at 5. See, I can stop for her, but not for me. Plus we will visit my aunt in the horse-piddle so I really have no complaint. She leaves to go to Pittsfield for rehab tomorrow so next time will have to be a trip to Pittsfield. Nebo doesn’t have anything like that so Pittsfield is as close to home as she can get.
Best get movin she’s popped her head in hear twice in the last three minutes. I take that as a hint. Maybe not.

Todd...First, thank you for the prayers.
Second, Good LUCK getting her to see it any other way!
I once ran a lawn care/snow removal and [odd jobs} business in my youth. I worked for a woman who owned several rental properties I mowed/snow cleared/and handy-manned {If I couldn't fix it we'd call in the profs.}.
Well,,,,, she decided to have me re-do her own dining room in he large Italianate Victorian home. patch cracks in the panneling {not the kind you think of}, paint and etc. WHen we got done, she had already decided to do the front parlor! Then she decided when that WAs done being redecorated that the front hall really needed new wallpaper {which she hired profs for thank goodness} and new tile floor. When I got done with my part of the hall, I siad " ok which is next: kitchen, family room, Library or MBR?" she looked at me funny. ANd I said "you can't do the front three rooms and be happy with JUST THAT!!! " She looked strange and said I was right, and asked how I knew she was thinking the same thing?! We redid the library, and family room, before she hired profs to redesign her a whole new kitchen!!!!
SO..moral is: HOPE you can get a stainless steel insert for the DW, if not look into the SS peel-n-stick, and plan on getting a new stove!!!!
Sorry to say!!!

Not much going on today. Homework and various things around the house. Enough to keep be busy, but at least I don't have to go anywhere.
James, Miniatur Wunderland definitely seems like a totally awesome place! If I ever end up in Germany, I won't leave without going there! If you want to see trains, the US is absolutely the place to come! Our railroads are extremely diverse, from shortlines running 50 year old Alcos, to hump yards using remote-controlled SD40-2's and slug units, to 45-year-old freight units rebuilt as passenger locomotives, to busy mainlines with the newest motive power. The chances of seeing the same thing over and over again are slim to none. I've put together a photo gallery that shows just some of what we have. Hope you enjoy it (and to those with slow connections, sorry)!
If anyone's curious on what any of the photos are, feel free to ask!
Well, I've got to go for now. I'll see you guys later!

***Ray, the last chicken was "taken" last week, so there is nothing left for them (or fox) to make off with. The guineas and peacocks all roost too high. Now, if the little "would be wolves" decide to try any of my minis, then I would declare war on them. I miss the old Pyrenees which ran loose and kept the farm safe from predators. The young Pyres would probably run off and get themselves in trouble. Still many new fences to build and old ones to repair before they can run free.
***Sue, my sisters family in Toledo was fine. Dad was probably at his lady friend's in the Centralia/Chehalis area. Sis probably would have said something to me if Dad had been having trouble.
***Todd, you are putting me to shame with your flooring progress. I'm still debating with myself how to proceed. Do I want to add another section to place a wood rack on or...

Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, I'll have a short stack of buckwheat pancakes and lots of NYS Dark Amber Mapl........ What!!??!! No NYS Maple Syrup?! Well! Oh Quebec Maple Syrup, eh! THAT's almost as good as the Finger lakes stuff, eh. Oh and don't forget the dark roast coffee, eh. I'll be right here at the Rivet Counter for a bit, eh.
Currently 32°F outside here in the Finger Lakes with a high of 36°F this afternoon. According to Weather, com we had 0 inches of rain and 0 inches of snow in the last 24 hours. Hmmm? Wonder what all the wet stuff was yesterday and the white stuff that appeared on the ground last night? Right now it is bright outside so the "partly Cloudy should be melted and gone in a couple hours. then we are supposed to get an inch of light fluffy stuff tonight and another inch of it tomorrow. What all this means is I plan to disappear down cellar and w*rk on the layout most of the day.
Todd, does Brenda put away tools you are using if you set them down while you are working? My late wife used to do THAT! I would reach out to pick up the tool (I was under the sink replacing water lines) and it would be gone. She would say, "what are you looking for?" I'd tell her and she would say she thought I was done with it so I put it away for you......! I would start to say some nasty words, then she would say, "I was only trying to help!" and storm off to sulk for a few days....
Rob, Will E. must be part of the pack you have there..... Hopefully they didn't make off with any of your critters.

Good morning, Chloe. I will have my coffee in a NP mug please.
Ray, I can't wait to see photos of your progress. It is fun how our layouts evolve. There are so many things that we would have done differently had we known about operations when we started on our present layout. Our tight walkways aren't a big enough problem yet. We are getting pretty good at ripping track up to change things. Had I known that I would have a secret wish for a Challenger, we would have designed radius curves to allow one. Oh well, I will have to admire other MRs' Challengers, like Tom's.
Terry, It is good to see your photos. That is a great shade of green on your fascia.
Rob, How did your relatives do with our snow storm and power outage? We had 2 feet of snow and the inch of ice on top of that knocked the power out for almost 6 days. I suspect the Rochester family had the same problems that we had. Toledo was on the south edge of the storm.
Later, Sue

#1. She could consider the floor to be enough and be happy with the rest - for now. Yeah, right!
#2. You could get a contractor to handle the rest while you watch your wallet dry up and blow away.
#3. You can handle the rest of the renovation yourself while she comes up with more things to add to the already huge list resulting in you sitting in a padded cell after going insane and mumbling incoherent things about floors, walls and stoves.

Floor Wars Williamsville: Phase….I lost track - Got the tile laid in the Kitchen yesterday despite a unscheduled trip to help load and unload our old refridge-a-deezer. (see? What did I tell you) They live just over the highway so at least it wasn’t that far. Anyway, all I have to do today is grout, then tile into the pantry closet and that back room/former laundry room/current “oh look there’s a place to put it” room. It will be turned into a more usefull storage area with cabinets and such later. Our kitchen is very small and has no real storage for her kitchen things. Then I move on to the Master Bath for which her plans seem to have grown past just the flooring, and then the office I am in now. It will have wood floor. Missy’s room may stay carpet now and our Bedroom will stay carpet. These will be done by some alleged professional.
Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

At w**k today but it is my short day. Still didn't sleep well last night but since I went to bed early I got a couple more hours of sleep so I feel better than yesterday. I put supports under the girder bridge so that looks better. I plan on plastering first thing Wed morning (first part any way).

3) Visit Germany - lovely looking country, and my old friend doesn't stop raving about it, and the photos she posts are almost irrisistable...

Good Evening or Morning depending on your time zone,
Rob, glad to hear those MT cars are working out. MT is one of my favourite lines of N scale rolling stock. I bought a couple of Intermountain box cars and while the detail is great they are far too light and don't roll very well especially considering the price. I'll stick with MT and Atlas.
Not a lot new up here. The weather continues to be exceptionally mild, go to work every day, don't do a lot at work, go home. Still tired at night so don't do much on the RR. I did have to tear up some track on the door layout as I found the grade was too steep on the over part of the over and under. Good thing I tested it! My Bman consolidation tried valiantly but it was a no go. I am lowering the grade and to get the clearance under the bridge I am lowering the track underneath a half inch which will do the trick.
We just did our usual errands today which included a trip to the pet store and of course my wife had to buy Robbie another toy because he doesn't have a racoon and we just couldn't have that. He is up to 64 now that he can retrieve by name and the new one will be 65. My wife had to make a list as I forget some of them and Robbie just looks at me' C'mon Dad tell me the name of that toy and I'll fetch it ' but sadly Dad can't always remember the name. After all he's only 3 and I'm nearly 65 so of course, wait a minute, I'm talking about a dog for Pete's sake.
Tomorrow is Sunday and we have nothing planned, oh joy, I might even get to run the Northern a bit. I should really be painting the bedroom but I won't as the smell might bother my wife, aren't I considerate. Lazy is more like.
Ken, I sure hope things get better at work for you. Seems like they should be putting you in charge at that store.
Say, just 3 minutes to go and it will be good morning, not good night so I best sign off so I can say Good Night all.
Evening all. I'll take a decaf, pleasenthanks.
Still keeping busy around here. The second semester of school has started up. Hockey is still tying me up a few days a week. Fortunately, most of the college stuff is essentially done, and the last scholarship application will be put in the mail on Monday.
The layout hasn't been touched in probably almost two weeks. There's just no time. And I don't really have the money to buy much for it, because, at this point, I've essentially exhausted the year's (and by that I mean school year, since work during the summer= more money). So the modeling is currently at a 100% standstill.
I'll be hanging around for a bit.
This tunnel on Still Valley Road on the abandoned CNJ main is currently undergoing restoration by the Township of Pohatcong. The waterproofing work was recently completed, and cosmetic restoration will likely begin in the near future. The tunnel was built in 1911, but the cut stone liner dates back to the line's construction in the early 1850s.
Evenin' folks!
Janie, just a decaf for me.... Oh what the heck, give me a slice of the chocolate cke you got over there. Blood sugar WAS good tonight.
I cleaned up the mess that has accumulated in the dining room/Office today and got out an even bigger mess. All the saved receipts and documents for my taxes..... I'm going to get an early start this year and get it done with. Only thing I haven't recieved yet is the form from the NYS Teachers Retirement System. Should be here Monday or Tuesday. In the meantime I will start adding up deductible expenses (medical, etc) I also spent some quality time in the layout rooms. Found out I had a package of railbars i had forgotten about, so along with the one I just got from Caboose Hobbies, I added railbars to several of the tracks that I had laid last week. Tomorrow I will do some painting of those same rails and may start ballasting. I also started demolition....
Sue, I am removing one area that I didn't like in one of the rooms where my layout is, and will be rebuilding it to open up the room and make it look much better. Feels good to start taking that part down. I think the new plan will provide for better operations and also allow me to add a couple structures I can get judged for Merit Awards toward the Structures Certificate.
Rob, glad you like the new Toy, ah, er, uh, Beast! That's it Beast! Looks like it ought to do the job for you. Hope the coyotes move away from the critters!

Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.
Good Evening, Flo - I'll just have a Rio Grande mug of decaf and a fudge brownie, please. Thanks!
Been gone way too long - my apologies for all the important stuff I know I've missed. I have been getting some more de-cluttering of my apartment, anyway, and some w**k on MRR structures (back to that Walthers modular/kitbashed train-truck transfer company, which is its own special 'delight' at times). And I decided that the background DPM modular building (Acme Manufacturing) wasn't long enough (but didn't want to tear it totally apart to add length to it). So I'm using other Walthers modular parts to build an annex for Acme (sorta an office, I think - haven't decided yet). I just love Walthers modular parts and how they line up just right (NOT!).. Think they should have actual instructions that tell you how to get the column caps to line up with the brick pilaster thingees, as well as how you get the foundation pieces to line up to match the length of the wall assemblies. Mutter, mutter...
I am for now at a standstill on the pine trees project - I don't have a vise or something to clamp and hold the wire that I need to cut into short pieces for the bases of the trees (so I can store them by poking the wires into a sheet of foam until I get the layout ready for scenicking). I did manage to score a nice little printing shop and post office on deBay (old Magnuson type kit), and have started epoxying the walls together. Need to wash the walls off before I get to painting them. Details, details...
Have managed to lose a little more weight; down from my all-time high of about 230 to now about 214 or so. Now, if I could fit walking into my crazy w**k schedule, I could burn more calories and not have to watch what I eat so much.
W**k has been... w**k. Ken, I think I'll grab a seat by you if that's okay.
Barry, I'm not sure I believe your cat's claim there about that BSOD...
Ray, are you rebuilding, or adding another room to the S.L.O.W.? The plans look good. Sorry to hear about your tooth/filling - think your dentist will give you a break on fixing that, since it happened when you were doing what he/she recommended on the flossing? (nah, probably not, you're right).
OzJim, hope you don't get any more rain in your area - we've had an abundance here and our ground's kinda soaked-in, too.
Galaxy, adding your train nut friend's grandmother to my list.
Rob, how's your new farm vehicle doing for you? I'm guessing you have it by now, anyway.
Jeff, I was getting ready to order one or two of those 'seconds' kits of resin castings like you got, but it looks like they're out. Maybe they'll have some more come next payday.
Curt, I see you're continuing to make progress on your layout.
Todd, I thought you were about to reach the end of the Floor Wars about by now - ?
A belated to the new Diners, including GabeUSMC, and any others I probably have missed.
Broadway, a few weeks back we had a mountain lion/cougar was found a few counties west of here (in the Missouri Ozarks - I think it was Wayne County or Reynolds County. One of yours on vacation thisaways?
Good to see you in the Diner, SaronaTerry - got any recent photos of your layout? Loved those (miners?) shacks you built and posted a while back in here.
Garry told me they were about to send out the bloodhounds, I'd been gone so long. Guess he's out visiting grandkids at the moment (I think they were in Arizona or close by there). That bridge that got hit is close to Garry's place. I didn't cross it when I visited him, though - I had taken the interstate around Kentucky Lake to get to Cadiz. Wonder if Garry saw about the collision.
I'll be heading for home now. Hope to get back in here a bit sooner than how long the last time took me.
Blessings and prayers,
Jim in Cape G.
Curt: You're not alone on the sleep issues. I'm having them too.
Gooooooooooooooooooooooood Evening, plate of cheeseburgers and a bucket of Coke please 'n thank-ya.
CURT: Sleeping issues 'eh? Too many late night runs at w**k?
Mr. LION: I do hope THAT lion is chasing after the scum THAT "tagged" the signal...
Well (frozen over again, with a layer of s**w on it), Stately Umscheid Manor, located at the prestigiously but not overly ostentatious corner of 8th and Ball (hence, "the 8-ball house"), is about to be invaded. Yup. BiL and three of his four child-units are enroute as I speak. Seems the Wife is going to help him with some computer/ipad/i-something type thing. The young ones will watch some sort of age-appropriate DVD in the living room. Me? I dunno. Rerun has been sequestered (he does NOT like invaders other than "grandma"). I may just hide in my office.
In RR "news," I think I may have finally caught-on to the assembly of the Intermountain PS 4750 covered hopper. I knocked one together earlier this month, am in need of decals for it though. I've got another one in the works, seems to be getting easier as I go. It's the brickenbrackenfrickinfrackin end parts THAT have gotten me in the past. Now watch, with one end to go...it'll revert back to the brickenbrackenfrickenfracken, abysmal, most deplorable situation.
Uh oh...think they may be pullin' in. The Wife is hustling around downstairs.
Have a good night peoples, best wishes to all in need (including skunks, horses, dogs...even those pesky cats and lions).
