Evening all.
Just a quick stop in before bed. Had practice after school, and then came home and spent the remainder of the night on homework. Now I'm tired.

Jim, other than the four early action acceptances (Northeastern, Villanova, Rutgers, and Catholic), I haven't heard anything else, and I probably won't until late March/early April when the regular decision letters come out for the other three schools (Lehigh, Lafayette, and The College of New Jersey). However, next week, I should hear some news about a full scholarship that I'm applying for at Villanova. I won't know if I get it, but I'll know if I either don't, or if I move on to the next round for it. I have an interview for another smaller Villanova scholarship this Saturday, so we'll see how THAT goes.
Speaking of interviews, I don't believe THAT I mentioned THAT I had an interview at Lafayette College last Tuesday. It was pretty informal, but it went very well.Afterwards, it was too late to go back to school, so I spent the remainder of the day doing some train-related activities in eastern PA and western NJ. I tried to get in some railfanning along NS's Lehigh Line. However, there was absolutely no traffic on the line (even for a Tuesday, which are usually quiet, but not this dead), so THAT was a complete bust. I saw a total of two trains during the day, one of which was local H65, the Allentown-Washington transfer job, which feeds cars for H-02, the local that serves the lines around my area (and to which NS 3010 is assigned). The other train (and catch of the day) was a set of light power, a SD60M leading a CW40-9. For whatever reason, there was a crew in each cab, and the crew in the D9 blew the horn for me, causing the rear ditch lights to flash, which was pretty neat. Other than that I saw absolutely no trains all day.On the way home, I did a little exploring along the abandoned and OOS former CNJ mainline between Phillipsburg and High Bridge. Today, I got some news that was absolutely shocking. Apparently, a friend of mine's boyfriend suddenly killed himself last night. I never knew the kid, but he seemed completely normal. It seems that this came totally out of nowhere.My friend was in school today, and she's handling it very well. She obviously has her moments, but she is being very mature and somewhat understanding of the situation. There are some things that make no sense to her, but she'd rather just not think about it. She said that there was absolutely no indication of him doing this. He didn't say anything about it to her recently and he seemed perfectly fine up until the last moment. He just went, and that was that, without even leaving a note. For how mysteriously the entire ordeal is, my friend is handling it extremely well, so that's a good thing.Please keep this boy, his family, and my friend in your prayers!

There is an 85% chance of not much happening weather wise over night. The weather chanel in one column says 1/2" by 4 AM, and right next to it says 1 to 2 " overnight....? I'll stick with the not much happening of the white and fluffy stuff anyway.
I called the dentist this morning about the hole in my head. Receptionist asked a few questions about which tooth it was and said how about 2:30 this afternoon? So I got the dang thing filled already. I was sure he was going to tell me it was time for a crown on this one as it is almost completely filling. He said, "Nope, we can fill it." That is great as I can't afford any crowns right now... Trying to save for new hearing aids......
I did get to do a bit more demolition of the layout today while doing the laundry. Top section is completely gone now:
I also removed all the staging track on the lower level. (Found some very poor soldered joints from way back then. I think I was using some 50 year old NoCorrode flux my FIL had given to me about 35 years ago. He had it for a long time then. There was a lot of corrosion at the joints, and some had not soldered well..... The new liquid flux I use from MicroMark I have had zero bad joints with and no corrosion.) Looks like this now:
May not get much time to w*rk on it tomorrow as I have a Mini Class Reunion to go to tomorrow night. Just an informal get together at a restaurant in Canandaigua for anyone in our class that wants to come. Real reunion is next year. We are doing a 49th. reunion rather than truly a 50th.
Sea Bob, Sorry to hear about the kittie. We do become very much attached to the little devils.... Always a tough decision, but you know it was the right one. I had to have my Mothers old cat put to sleep a couple years ago. I came home and cried! Same thing, cancer. She was in pain and was 21+ years old so I didn't hesitate to make the decision, but it was still tough!

ULRICH- thank you for the candle! SHe is doing some better and has a bit of an appetite now. She is "resigned" or "accepting" may be a better word of her situation and is in "good spirits". At 95, she figures this is just the next chapter in her life and is "ready to go anytime the Lord sees fit". Thanks to others for the thoughts and prayers...they seem to have worked!
Well, went to the urologist for my er, ah, um, "annual checkup". All is well, but Dr. picked on me about the weight I have gained...as do all Dr.s BUT my GP. He knows I have limited mobility and excersize so he doesn't pick to much. I wish all my other DR.s would take his heed. I certainly wish I could loose. THe less I eat and the more i diet, the more I gain. When I just don't give a fuzzy whatsits, it seems I loose. Go figure.It is also winter and I usually gain about 10 lbs..the old in-herited "fattening up for the cold season and lean food months".
Well, that is aobut it.
I/we learned the hard way not to put the oil-filed heater so close to teh boxed trains stacked up under the table top layout...they tend to melt if too close!!! Take heed of my warning folks! Don't put your heater too close to the trains..even in the boxes they can "melt". Fortunately my new treasured 65' passengers were unaffected, only some box and hoppers I can replace- I think!! I didn;t think the heater was to close anyway...but apparently MOH tends to move heater closer to then to get it out of middle of the room.

Been down in the dumps again today. Beautiful day, high was around 60. Well I can make the house payment but I am going to have to cash in some savings to do it. Guess my dream of getting a EM 1is just about over.
This week I am going to try to work around 50 hours. With the hourly rate of $7.50 and $11.25 over time that nets a whole $400.00. With a lot of luck, I might be able to get $200.00 in commission.

Seamonster- Thank You. I am very sorry for your loss. I know it is a very tough decision to make. The skunks we have are like cats in the regard that they think we are here to serve their needs also.
Jeff- There is a restaurant in Apopka (the cat fish house) that runs a train on a shelf layout in the dining room, but thats all it does. They have great catfish.

Galaxy - I forget to mention it, but there is a prayer candle lit in our church for your train nut friend´s mother.
Curt: Glad to hear that your wife has recovered. I'm sure it felt good for her to be able to drive again. I know how glad my wife was to be able to drive again after her joint replacement surgeries.
Good to see that there are so many cat lovers out there. I won't say "cat owners" because you never really "own" a cat. As they say, a dog has masters, a cat has servants. Sadly, we had to have our cat, Dusty, put down last Monday. He was almost 16 y.o. and had cancer, It was aggressive and wide spread. He had stopped eating and had lost a lot of weight and muscle. It was one of the hardest things we've had to do, but it was the best for him.

Well I am off today, the 6 days straight kicked my butt. Going to run the trains for awhile then try to figuer out how I am going to make the house payment. It is going to be tuff this time.

I guess the ships insurance company or the ships COFR will cover a chunk of the new Eggner’s Ferry Bridge. I doubt there is an official “recreational vessel channel” through the bridge. The USCG normally only recognizes one channel when the vertical clearances of the bridge change between the shoreline and the center of the bridge. It will be interesting to read the published findings of this incident.
I spent a good chunk of the weekend filling the rolling stock dresser. I’m inventorying, weighing, and adjusting couplers on each car before it goes in the dresser. I’m not going to adjust weights until I have a derailment issue on the layout. If anyone is interested I entered all of the math for car weights on a excel 2010 spreadsheet. I enter the length of the car and the weight and it will give me the required adjustment.
I’ll try to catch up on the last 6 pages…

***I got stuck behind a BIG New Holland crawling up a hill and all I could think was, "Now THAT is a tractor." Normally the road is driven at 60mph and he was pushing 10 tops. Didn't bother me in the least.

Everything is white outside. Current temperature is 25°F with a high today of 30°F. They are talking 1 to 3" of light and fluffy tonight possibly. We have about 1" on the ground at the moment. Looks much better than brown. My neck is a bit better this morning. Still a bit tender, but nothing like yesterday.
Have a lady coming to the house to pick up the remaining Art and Poetry. She works with the Colleges After School Program and has for several years now taken care of both getting kids to enter, and returning all the entries after. I will also be calling my dentist to see about getting the tooth repaired ASAP. He will probably recommend a crown as there isn't much tooth left. I can't afford the expense of the crown right at the moment (saving my pennies for new hearing aids - $5,000 worth or more).

IT also took out a large AT&T fiber optic cable wiping out most internet for the school systems and the hospital where I work. ( luckily we had back up internet backbone)

Garry the ship that hit the bridge was in the pleasure boat navigation channel instead of the commercial navigation channel. It was 2 spans to the east of where i should have gone under.
Now they think there was damage to the pier and that they will not be able to replace the span which was the original plan. They think the pier is moving. They are placing sensors to check for stability. If this turns out to be the case they will never be able to repair this bridge. They will build the new one that is slated to be built and finish tearing this one down.
Other than that Mrs Lincoln how was the play......

At w**k today and tomorrow. High for both days in the mid 70's. Our low today was 49 F which is warmer than some of your high's today. MOH went to work today for the first time since her surgery. I called her to make sure that she made it OK. I got behind a dump truck this morning doing 20 mph on a 2 lane road with no chance of passing him.
Jeff- I'm always sorry to see any PRR equipment get repainted into another road, but you have to do what you have to do. Oh I forgot that I do have a FP-7 for freight ops.
